It's been a while since I've visited a Baskin Robbins, but I grew up going to the ice cream chain as a kid and some flavors just bring back all the memories! I think my all time favorite is the Cherries Jubilee, but I still want to try new flavors every time I visit just to see if there's anything else I'll love as much. I will give Baskin Robbins credit for trying, but I've always been so disappointed with their sugar free flavors. They just don't pack a punch with the flavor and can't compare to the other offerings. That said, I do appreciate the dairy free options they offer. Ultimately, I went with the Cherries Jubilee and the Pistachio Almond, which initially tasted great but seemed to have a more mild flavor than I usually prefer. The Cherries Jubilee was fantastic! I will say this I've not been to this area of Austin before and while there is plenty of parking, the parking lot and location felt a bit run down. There was no seating outside and seating inside was limited. Personally, this felt more like a grab-and-go location since seating was more limited. The employees were friendly and helpful with trying samples and checking out, so no complaints there! All in all, I definitely like Baskin Robbins and always enjoy eating ice cream on a hot summer day (or 65% of Texas days, since it's always over 100F here!) read more

Our family has been coming here for years, and we've always loved the place--we've even gotten to know the owners over time. That's why it's disappointing to see a recent change. Lately, it seems like staff are turning off the lights well before closing (sometimes up to 2 hours early), which makes it look like the shop is already closed. Famous for 31 flavors of course it's hard to decide on a flavor. Opted for 2 scoops on a waffle bowl and got the hugest scoops ever! "Cookies n coffee" and always good "strawberry cheesecakes" taste like actual ice cream (a nice change from the usual milk shake). Small seating area mostly used for waiting to order but I was in and out right away. Highly recommend when you're craving real classic ice cream, it's better than the tubs from the grocery store! I went with the cherry jubilee. The store is small and my only complaint was that the ice cream was divided into 3 areas making it hard to see all the choices. I've gone here ever since I was a kid. The owner Jai is always there and he's really nice. I remember he once gave me free chocolate covered strawberries which were really good. I went back here years later (as a young adult) and it was cool to see the owner again because I haven't seen him in a while because I moved away in 2012 but I just moved back to Austin in 2022. Anyways, I also want to say, the ice cream here is always good as heck and I have a lot of good nostalgic memories about this place. read more

I love Baskin Robbins. I would just like them just stay open until the time that they actually advertise they do. They close at 10. I show up at 9:15. It's closed. I show up at 9:30, It's closed. I showed up at 9:07 yep closed. The sign says 10 o'clock so I don't get it, I do understand if it's slow and happens once in awhile but this happens also. it's because 4 20 year old kids that work there they could care less! I love the ice cream and the one in particular is not pre-packed. oh my gosh, they have to do it! you get the eye roll and then the 20 minutes of slowly filling at 75% full. For nine dollars. Grossed out.... never experienced any issues until I saw this!! Went and ordered 3 sugar cones one scoop in each. My mistake is not asking for a taste before deciding. Kid and I mean KID could careless about us being there, he never greeted us or offered a sample. He expressed how much he hated life in his facial expression. I picked a flavor my kids disagreed with, I went back asked if I could change it. You know you've been in Austin a really long time when you're in your early 30s and can go to a Baskin Robbins at which a boy you dated in high school worked. And you know that BR has something going for it if a single location in a scummy strip center can persevere over at least 15 years of summer romances and lessons in how to drive a standard transmission and french kissing. One of the things going for BR is consistency: the quality of the product has not changed, at least in any material way, in all the time I have been a customer. Now, some ice cream truists, fanatics, or snobs may argue about what the level is to begin with, but it is the ice cream shop I was taken to as a child, and thus will always be the standard in its own way. Thus, I happen to prefer the style of ice cream to most of the others in town: it is fluffier, "American style" ice cream whereas Amy's, though I really like their flavor, is much more sticky. And that is because there is a good amount of air and artificial things in BR ice cream that give it that consistency. Apparently BR ice cream has Propylene Glycol, which is also used in antifreeze and paint solvents, among other things. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? The other thing BR has going for it is ice cream cake. And today, I saw something I have been wishing for ever since I would ride my bike across several scummy neighborhoods in Corpus Christi to get to the only BR in town in the 80s: an individual ice cream cake. Yes, the people have spoken, and BR has listened. They call the new concoction an ice cream "bite" which is probably why we have an obesity epidemic in this country: the bite is almost big enough to share, about the size of two normal cupcakes. Although my trip to the BR tonight was in observance of National Ice Cream Sundae Day, which was a few days ago, I had to get an ice cream cake bite for the road. I put it in the freezer, way in the back, so hopefully, I can wait at least a few days before eating it, though ice cream based desserts in the house is a potentially hazardous affair. Though the girl working tonight was in a major rush, even though it was 9:20 and they don't close until 10, I gave her some slack and still tipped her a buck, since I'm sure she's rushing to get out so she can meet her high school boyfriend. read more

When I was a kid, my dad would take my bro and me to Baskin Robbins on his weekends. This was always a big deal. Now I know some of you may be grunting to yourselves, "Pfff, a chain ice cream shop...", but this was El Paso; there's not much in the way of local flavor when it comes to ice cream unless you're chasing down an ice cream truck and ordering one of the million varieties of 'Paletas'. 31 Flavors is of course a bit of a misnomer, they have closer to 50 flavors to choose from. But my dad and I always ordered the Pistachio Almond, me in a cone, him in a cup. And we'd drive back to my abuelita's house, vanilla to-go cup in hand, singing to the oldies station that always played in his car. So, when I'm back in the EPT, dad and I still hit up the ol' Baskin Robbins, but here at home, I usually opt for the local Amy's or a cool gelato place. I make an exception on rainy days, though. Why? The Rainy Day special, that's why! Normally the Banana Royale: two heaping scoops of ice cream, banana slices, your choice of topping, and whipped cream with a cherry on top will set you back $3.99 plus tax. This location of Baskin-Robbins has been in Austin as long as I've lived there. And I haven't lived in Austin for eight years! And I'm still the first to write a Yelp review? Alright! All ice cream chains are NOT created equal, and I've always been a fan of Baskin-Robbins, or 31 Flavors. I tasted several flavors tonight before going for a cup of peppermint, a favorite flavor of mine whether it's ice cream, candy, a cookie, whatever. I usually gravitate towards ice cream with a lot of STUFF in it (chunks of chocolate, cookies, candy), but I think where Baskin-Robbins really excels in their simpler flavors - flavors like peppermint, mint chip, chocolate chip, Jamocha (sp?). I tasted several flavors such as a white chocolate and Quarter Back Crunch, and the flavors just didn't hold up to my cup of peppermint. If you're going to go for ice cream chocked full of STUFF, Ben & Jerry's is really your best bet. Or one of the mix-in ice cream chains (but even then, Marble Slab, Cold Stone, and Maggie Moo can ALL vary in quality depending on location, quality of the actual ice cream, blended-ness of the mix-ins, and more). The owner is so nice and friendly! I took my daughter, son, and nephew there yesterday. My nephew was being a little hyper, climbing on a rail and hanging over the glass case. I told him to get off, but the owner told me it was fine, that that's what the rail was made for (so the kids can see the flavors). He took our order and was very patient. We all ordered cones, but he gave me a sundae cup and spoon for my son to empty some of his ice cream from his cone so he wouldn't get so messy and told me if I needed more cups for the other kids to just let him know. I asked for a scoop or pralines and cream and the girl straight up told me that they were out when I was looking at the container which had at least 6 more scoops (I used to work there). I don't know why she wouldn't even try when there was obviously enough ice cream form one scoop. She later gave us a condescending look when we told her thank you but we won't be getting anything. The other guy working that shift had his headphones on the whole time and didn't even try to attend the customers behind me.
