I told them I didn't know how it works (ordering toppings how much they were etc) and the lady serving didn't help. She had zero smile on her face and seemed like I was bothering her. I ordered a large and got the most mediocre scoop of my life. Even with the toppings it didn't reach over the cup. Ten dollars for two inches of ice cream. The scoops are so large, especially after being mashed and blended, that any hope of eating out of a cone is dashed, so order your cone plus a cup. Loving the chocolate orange flavor, but I gilded the lily yesterday when I added hot fudge. I miss the funky photo booth. But I still love Amy's very very much. Of course we've been to this Amy's location like a bazillion time since our last review because 1) it's so close to our house and 2) we have an ice cream-obsessed child, and it's usually the standard experience. We love seeing the guy that's been working there for all ten years that we've lived in ATX. HOWEVER. We recently knocked the hipster-laden Amy's on South Congress because it served up some half melted ice cream crap that we thought was to blame on the location. BUT NO, we stand corrected! This problem is endemic because it happened again at the Guadalupe location a couple weeks ago and what the what, Amy!!! Pull it together and stop serving your customers melted ice cream. It's gross, it's unprofessional, and it's a waste of our money. We're not even going to say anything nice about any of the other flavors that were had that day, and we're instituting a new policy: automatic one star review if you serve up a bunch of liquid again. Train your staff either to warn/ask the customer if they want melted ice cream or to say that that flavor is not available until it firms up more. Ridiculous! We're pissed. read more

This is a grab and go kind of place. You can't really sit down and eat your ice cream. There are some benches around, but probably people are already sitting there. When I went, it was pretty busy but the line went very fast. They had two people helping out the registers. I think the ice cream I got was the campfire treat and it was delicious. Such was the case this past weekend for our little family. A little research online led us to Amy's and we were genuinely impressed with the quality of their product, the relatively reasonable prices and the extremely friendly service. We were a little apprehensive when we arrived and the line was out the door. Thankfully junior was fascinated by the decor outside - would not stop talking about the pink ice cream melting on the roof...in fact, we heard about it a lot the rest of the weekend. The line moved pretty quickly and before we knew it it was our turn. Opted for the bee cave crunch ice cream which was fabulous, their famed Mexican Vanilla with the addition of honey, cinnamon and pecans. I had this topped with the pecan praline and it was heavenly. The rest of our party also really enjoyed their concoctions, especially junior who ironically opted for "white ice cream" (vanilla) after all that talk about the pink outside. I can't sit here and tell you that Amy's was the best ice cream we had in Austin because Lick Honest took that crown by a mile, but it was definitely solid and we truly enjoyed it, enough so that we had another go round at their airport outpost while waiting for our flight. We will definitely be back to try more flavors on our next trip to ATX. read more

Good ice cream, good service, 10% discount for UT students! I got an email from Amy's while studying and knew I had to try their newly released magic bar flavor! (I also tried their Bunny Tail flavor which was also super good, but I stuck with the magic bar.) The Magic Bar has toasted coconut, chocolate chips, Biscoff cookies, and butterscotch chips! It's one of my favorite ice cream flavors ever! While checking out and grabbing my cards, I ended up tilting my cone on accident, dropping the scoops onto the counter. Immediately, the cashier offered to grab me a few scoops into a cup to make up for it, even though it was completely my fault! The ice cream itself was very smooth, rich, and creamy, however they didn't mix the marshmallows in and it was awkwardly on top. However, as we were sitting down, there was a huge COCKROACH climbing on the walls! All the customers in line watched and pointed in disgust and nobody did anything to get rid of it. I liked the ice cream and workers but just the low maintenance in cleaning made me feel uncomfortable.
