Found this place near where my son and his wife just bought their home. What a find!!! This is a quintessential Mom and Pop Southern diner. We came on a Saturday so only had the menu options (which are amazing) but during the week they have a meat and vegetable offering that looks delicious. They've been in business over 60 years and are super friendly. Felt like eating with family even for our very first time. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a country diner. You can sit at the counter or a table. We will DEFINITELY be back!

We've been living in Canton 17 years and never ate at Basket Shack. Driven by many a time. We stopped by today (Saturday) for breakfast. The dining room is a little small but they opened up another table for us. The staff is very friendly. I had the country ham with eggs, biscuit and gravy. My wife had a BLT with fries. All very delicious! Ham wasn't greasy. Biscuits are big and firm. Her fries crispy. Lastly, pricing is reasonable.

I stopped and got a Bacon Biscuit on my way home from a trip one morning. Fast, Friendly, Service...lots of Regulars sitting around enjoying the atmosphere and good food. I'm looking forward to going in for a full meal some time.

Step inside and you're greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and the kind of friendly faces that make you feel right at home. Then comes the food--fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. My husband sticks to the classics (and loves every bite), while I always look forward to whatever creative seasonal dishes Andy and Amber come up with. Fall is my favorite time because I have to get the butternut squash pasta--it's that good. It's always great to see POPS busy, even during the week. It just adds to the energy of downtown and makes you appreciate having such a gem in the community. We truly hope POPS becomes a longtime staple here in Canton--places like this deserve it. If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and go. You won't regret it.

Dirty Bird and the Beignets are a must order here. Even for those that don't love gravy I'd still get the dirty bird because the gravy is on the lighter side and very flavorful. Unfortunately, our excitement quickly faded before we were even seated. When I walked into the restaurant, I was completely ignored by a young blonde employee named Claudia who was standing behind the counter in the waiting area. She looked directly at me and continued what she was doing without so much as a greeting or an acknowledgment. A simple, "Good morning, someone will be right with you," would have gone a long way. Since no one else was in the lobby and I noticed a clipboard on the counter, I politely asked if there was a waitlist. Claudia responded with an attitude that she "wasn't the hostess." I calmly asked where the hostess was, and she simply replied that she was clearing tables. There was no offer to help, no explanation of the process, and no attempt to assist me. She continued interacting with other staff members while I stood there feeling like an inconvenience. Thankfully, another employee who appeared to be a waiter noticed me. He immediately picked up the same clipboard that had been sitting on the counter, took my name and phone number with a cheerful attitude, and let me know it would be about a 15-minute wait. His professionalism completely contrasted with the poor customer service I had just experienced. Once seated, our waiter was personable, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was also very good. I ordered the Chicken Sausage Scramble with hash browns, and it was delicious. My friend ordered the Catfish and Grits and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The food and our waiter helped redeem the experience, but first impressions matter. Management should ensure that every employee understands that providing basic courtesy and hospitality is everyone's responsibility, not just the hostess's. Even if greeting guests or managing the waitlist wasn't Claudia's primary role, there was no excuse for being dismissive or rude to someone walking through your front door. Alpharetta has no shortage of excellent brunch spots with both great food and outstanding customer service. Sadly, because of the way I was treated before I was even seated, I won't be returning to The Southern Porch. I also won't feel comfortable recommending it to friends or family. It's disappointing because the kitchen and our waiter did their jobs well, but one employee's attitude overshadowed what could have been an otherwise enjoyable brunch.

I had the "Traditional" upgraded to a Triple Play (i.e., and extra egg and piece of bacon). It was delivered within 4 minutes of ordering and the eggs were just as ordered, the breakfast potatoes had a crispness, the biscuit was good, and the bacon had nice flavor (but more the chewy versus crisp style). The waitress frequently checked at the table to ensure I had no outstanding needs. The dining area has a variety of seating: bar, booths, tables, and even a sizeable outdoor covered patio. There is a sign posted on the door notifying customers that ALL orders are charged a special fee. I find that a bit irritating, but I guess it saves them from having to reprint the menus. And it amounted to 54 cents in my case. Speaking of menus, they have seasonal specials, but it was December and the waitress said they were no longer available and the new specials were still pending.
