Awful, awful, awful. I can respect a greasy spoon counter experience, but this was not it. This old building sits in the downtown area and has all the makings for a charming experience. While the staff was friendly, their concern for safe food handling practices were nonexistent. There were no gloves, no handwashing and no concern for hygiene as they dug their bare hands into a Sara Lee burger bun bag and plated up a burger patty that'd been sitting in lukewarm water and slapped a piece of American cheese on top of it. It was like getting served by a toddler putting together play food in their make believe kitchen. I was truly astonished. Like I said, service was kind and country friendly, but that alone can't be the reason to keep this counter service spot in business. The food quality and safety was questionable and the food itself tasted worse than I'd expect prison food to taste like. At the end of the meal, I glanced and saw the health score and if I recall, their score was in the 70s. I've since looked at their health score history and see they have no intent in changing behaviors of cleanliness, as they've been repeat offenders of improper holding food temperature, cross contamination, and use of open container beverages among food prep areas. Really love the old school counter and the stools. Great environment and has enormous potential to be a legendary place. Really cool vibe. As far as the food, I have eaten hundreds of chili dogs all over and every where. This is one of my favorite foods. Was so excited from the picture that this could meet the taste test. Unfortunately, this chili dogs was in the bottom 10% lowest I have ever had. The chili has basically no flavor and is essentially colored water. You can't even find a way to sip up the amount of "chili" liquid on the plate - way too much liquid vs the bun. Maybe today the regular cook wasn't there? Don't know but really odd and strange "chili". Was I supposed to ask for crackers to add to the chili on the place? Not sure.... The people working there are nice. I was suggesting this restaurant as a part of a surprise road trip that I was going on. It was one of the suggested places to stop, so I wanted to check it out. The restaurant is very small inside. It only holds up the out 14 seats. Upon walking in the staff spoke, but seemed a little shocked at us coming in. Everything was fine until we ordered our food. Once we order food and watch them start to prepare it, no one wash their hands and they touched everything with their bare hands. A lot of the food was already pre-cooked and sitting over to the side. I watch the girl pick up my sausage patties with her hand to bring over to the cook to make my omelette. I also watched the same young lady walk outside after she had grabbed my sausage and went into the freezer right outside the back door and grab a hash brown with her bare hand. One of my other friends had ordered tomatoes in her omelette, and it was the same thing she picked up the tomato with her bare hand and just started cutting it, never washing her hands in between. There were no gloves, it was so unsanitary. Nobody was also wearing a hairnet, so I found that odd as well. I regret not saying hey never mind we're gonna leave. Also, when a group of guys came in that clearly, the staff knew they were no longer really paying attention to us and we're over talking to them. At one point the Cook even walked over on his phone and had I guess his child on FaceTime talking to the guy in the restaurant. There was another guy that came in and got chili dogs at almost 10 AM. Nobody refilled his drink, so he took it upon himself to grab his cup and refill his drink since he was sitting right next to the drink dispenser. All in all I could tell that this is a neighborhood staple, and everybody knows each other. But this does not seem like an actual business And I would not recommend going to this place. They even charged for water... Crazy. This family came in at about 9:55 AM and they were told that breakfast was over. After the family walked out, you could hear the girls say I wasn't gonna cook any more food. Very unprofessional. And the food was not good. read more

Plenty of parking in area 4. Service is fast and professional 5. Food is very good and quantity is ample. I had the chili burger "all the way" which is burger with chili, onions and mustard. if this is a local diner, then the locals don't know what they're eating. I ordered a hamburger and fries and I did not hear anything cooking on the grill, but it was delivered within two minutes and when I looked at the burger and the fries, they were cold when I asked if they were fresh they told me yes they're cooked fresh every morning, but this was at lunchtime! The burger looked homemade on a store-bought bun and the fries look frozen. I was repulsed and could not eat it. On the plus side the Diet Coke from the fountain was good and was an alternative to paying $.75 for a water from the fountain not even a bottle. This place is an institution that has been around since the early 1930's I believe. 4 way is nothing fancy at all. They have a good breakfast, hotdogs and burgers for lunch that most people get brown gravy or chili on them. Do not expect to get seated as all they have are bar stools and you just wait your turn for one to open up so if you go with a group planning on sitting together the chances are slim. I Love going there a few times per year, it's like going back in time. The prices are reasonable but it is just a small diner. If you are a local and never tried it please put it on your bucket list. If you are traveling thru. I also suggest giving it a try. You will also be close to the local shops that you can visit while downtown. Tried to go to this little place in August and it was so packed we couldn't get in. Remembered it again this trip and so very glad we stopped by. I must admit that I looked at the pictures on Yelp of the "All The Way" hamburger and hot dog I just couldn't wrap my head around them. Normally we would not get chili with beans...but we did. Ordered the hotdog and hamburger with a small fry and two sodas. Total cost $13. Both the dog and burger were great. The fries were really good and hot. Loved the crushed ice in the drinks. Now for that chili with beans, it was totally addictive. I did ask about the salt level and was told that they use very little salt. All said, that is good because there are a lot of non tolerant salt people and those of us who love it can add it! Next visit will be a large bowl of that chili WITH beans. Highly recommend. We found out this little stop in the road has been a family owned business I think she said since 1931, they still get fresh ground meat from a locale farm ground daily. Everything is made right in front of you! We took their suggestion and went with burger, slaw & chili all of it homemade except the bun! I've seen this place for years but it's rarely been open at hose times, so was glad to finally try it. We only waited about 5 minutes for the limited seats along the counter to open up. The friendly ladies quickly took out order & prepped our lunch. Young grandson who we have to prod to finish smaller burgers, talke about how good this thick burger was & almost finished the whole thing. The burgers seem hand-patted & definitely thicker than a typical fast food burger, but very reasonably priced. We split an order of fries (steak fries - they were ok), & drinks. All restaurants downtown had over a 45 minute wait and my fiancé and I were genuinely looking for something a little more local. We walked in to this place - definitely a good ole while in the wall!! The waitress immediately asked what we would like to drink. They (as all waitresses behind the bar all help ya) asked if we'd ever been and we said no. She immediately said "we give you the forks up front for a reason, you have to try the burger or hot dog all the way". So that's what we ordered. You are more than welcome to order it whatever way you'd like but we wanted it the way it's been done since 1931 - when the cafe opened. What does all the way mean - slathered up with chili, mustard and onions. We also ordered a large fry, some drinks and peach cobbler. Now listen - if you are not used to small countertop cafe you may not enjoy it but it was perfect for us. The menu is small but SUPER CHEAP!!! Our total was $14 for all of it . Unique and unforgettable lunch experience. I'm new to Cartersville and I work on main street; so I knew nothing about 4-way but see the shack every day. My first visit was totally an adventure. I opened the door and was really surprised to find how small it is- like you were right in your aunt's kitchen. My waitress- and-chef-and-cashier-and-"aunt", ran errands in a very organized way. I ordered cobbler+ice cream to go because I had lunch, total $2.50 including 50 cents surcharge for take-away. Oh BTW, all the items are around 2 or 3 bucks. How was the cobbler? Heavenly good!
