I have come about three times to this tailor shop. It's decent. They do a fine job on all types of alterations. I would give it higher marks but I do feel that it's a bit more expensive than another tailor. If you're in the neighborhood and this is the closest one I do recommend. He does a good job. I hired Basil to let out the hem of 4 Pottery Barn curtain panels that measured between 82-83 inches to make them longer. He was rude to me during the consultation, expensive for a simple alteration and dry clean (360), late with the work, and screamed at my boyfriend for looking at the panels when he came to pick them up. After all of this, 2 panels were acceptable and the other two were returned to me shorter ( 79.5) than they were when I gave them to him. There were also strange dots on one. I have to toss those. I have lived all over the world and had suits made in Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and Chicago and none were of the quality and fit of what Basil's tailorshop produced. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Basil is extremely rude and unprofessional. I came into his shop and I asked him to fix a dress I would wear to my daughters wedding. The first day i got there, he had some sarcastic attitude and I let it slide because I needed his help. I dropped off the dress and ended up paying $150 to shorten it, which was half the price that he charged me. Good work calls for good money, right? Well I came into his shop ONE MONTH later. He had made the dress too small, the sides were folded obviously and I had asked him to even out the slits on the top and nothing was done. Not only that, but as soon as I walked into the store, he told me "try this on , I have to leave by 2." He could've called and told me to come in earlier. He has my number. But instead he chose not to. He chose to skip out on his PAYING client. I had to go back a couple days later to try on the dress again. Guess what?! He still didn't have the slit sewn. He messed up a string with the beading on my dress. I asked him to fix it, and he called me an impertinent asshole because of something he messed up. He proceeds to snatch my dress (probably ruining it some more) and began to curse and one thing I remember specifically that he said was "Fuck the bitch that put you on this Earth." If that's the way you want to be treated, please keep going to his shop. But I promise you , you can find someone who Actually cares for what you need. Btw I have a video to prove all of this. I have used Basil's Tailor shop a few times for minor alterations and have always found the owner (Basil) to be a tad prickly but professional. I recently brought in a new (with tags still on) FreePeople blouse and asked if the keyhole in it could be closed, he said yes and showed me what he would have to do to complete the task. I agreed. When I picked it up I was not pleased with the poor workmanship and I showed him where the issues were. He told me to leave it and he would fix it. I explained that I was not close by and didn't want to have to come back again and he took the blouse and tried to fix it right there. More pressing was involved which was damaging the fabric. I mentioned this and showed him other places on the blouse where his workmanship was poor. He became quite hostile and said to me, "I knew you weren't going to be happy with it when you dropped it off". Due to the derogatory comment and the other employees snickering, I wasn't sure what other attacks on my character I could expect so I felt it best to just leave. I will chalk this up to a $120 loss and a lesson learned. He did offer to rip out all of his work and not charge me for it but I feared that would damage the blouse even further. The worst possible service I've ever experienced in my entire life. I left a jacket to have the sleeves altered and when I picked it up I discovered a hole had been cut into one of the sleeves. When I took it back the owner immediately starting yelling at me and cursing at me calling me a liar and told me to f__k off. He actually used the "F" word several times. Needless to say I was in complete and utter shock. He was out of control and yelling at me in front of his employees and another customer in the store. Basil's recently altered my husband's suit. My husband had lost about 100 lbs and the suit needed massive alteration, jacket and pants. While it wasn't cheap, when I considered the time involved to do the alterations, it was a realistic charge. If you don't know how to sew, you can't know the hours involved to fix a garment, and tailoring is a specialty. I also had a few dusters converted to short jackets and they did an excellent job. The many articles of clothing I've had made by Basil's Tailor Shop, in addition to feeling comfortable and fitting well, also convey integrity and reflect my personal identity. We never get a second chance to make a first impression so I try and make mine as close to perfect as possible. Although this results in an almost impossible standard for clothing, Basil's expertise has somehow always been able to meet and even exceed that measure; I honestly don't know how he does it. I had a very bad experience and I will not waste my time here again. I found his info on google and decided to give him a try. He seems to be a very nice guy; However, I needed an alteration on a suit, jacket and pants, within 2 days. He delivered on time, but the jacket seemed just as big as it was before and the pants were just as bad. As a matter of fact, people at the event were even telling me "whoever tailored your suit did a bad job." TO TOP IT OFF - The price of the alteration was over $100!!
