We were skeptic about eating Asian food here in Paso. But this place didn't disappoint. We also tried another restaurant called Thai Classic also nearby walking distance to Basil Thai and it was also good. You cannot go wrong with thai food here. We walked in around 8pm and saw that they had 2 tables that were next to the opened windows but the lady said it would be a long wait for those tables. There were other tables nearby and empty, but my parents were scared of covid. So we decided to order food to-go. I saw that wines by the glass were $9-10, I ordered a sauvignon blanc and a cabernet while we waited for our food. When my parents finally decided that they couldn't wait anymore and wanted to sit and eat at a nearby emtpy table, they said they were closing soon so we couldn't. But food came out faster than they anticipated so we had to down our wine quickly. We took our to-go food to the tables outside the movie theater across the street to eat. Food took about 15-20 mins. Everything we ordered were good: papaya salad, shrimp pad thai, green curry with beef, brown rice, and tofu with mixed vegetables. We devoured everything. Plenty of street parking. read more

It's a hit a miss for people but clearly a miss for us. Giving it a three star as it was a holiday and I'm sure they were busy. We got seated around 7 or so which was nice and the restaurant did look busy hence we wanted to try it out. Right from being seated by the host, not once did anyone come over to take our order for drinks or even acknowledge that we were there. Other tables were being serviced as we were trying to get someone's attention and checking out the menu. After about 20 min or so, no one coming over to offer us some water or a drink. The quality of the food easily outweighed the price, the restaurant was clean and organized, the service was impeccable our waitress was kind courteous professional and welcoming not to mention prompt, the atmosphere was fantastic you almost don't recognize where you are once you've entered, the food was outstanding as a starter the Thai platter which is essentially a sampler of several dishes each prepared perfectly Thai crispy basil with chicken which was a sweet and sour slightly spicy crisp and sticky saucy chicken adorned with crispy basil leaves atop and finally for dessert a coconut creme brulee that is house-made in an actual coconut shell fantastic presentation and even better flavor. Dined here with friends on a Saturday night. We were able to walk in and get seated without a reservation. Lots of wait staff buzzing about- the many is extensive and also features dumplings and other non-Thai foods. They have the usual red, green or yellow curries with your choice of protein, Larb salad; papaya salad and Tom kha gah soup which I love. We also tried the duck (dry and full of gristle); bbq chicken ( also dry); coconut rice(good -an up charge of $1-2) and the seafood noodles. Service was very good and the food was okay. The soup didn't have the sharp flavor bite between the lime and coconut that I like. Chicken was dry even with the sweet sauce. $50 for two and I left a bit hungry. Food: The seafood glass noodle salad was good but the taste is different than what I'm used to. I've eaten plenty of glass noodle salad and this one is very pungent with fish sauce and super sour from the lime. It wasn't bad but just not what I'm used to. Maybe they purposely made it different to give it their own twist. I would only recommend this if you're good with something super salty and sour. It's also a tiny bit spicy so just beware of that. The green curry with chicken was really good. Usually with curry, they tend to make it too sweet or too creamy but I felt like this place did a good job of balancing the flavor. Also the curry was loaded with all sorts of veggie which I appreciated because I lovvve vegetables. Tammy least favorite was probably the Param with beef. It's heavy with peanut sauce and was way too sweet for my liking. The sauce they had felt more like a dipping sauce rather than a sauce you pour over the meat. The meat texture itself was good though Location: it's in a really good location near a bunch of other restaurants. There's also a bunch other other shops. I am not from around here but it looks like a downtown area to me. The restaurant is across from a park too you can walk off your food after eating. Parking: we came in a Monday nights around 7pm and parking was very easy. Also the first 2 hours is free and after 8pm, parking meter is no longer enforced. However, based on the look of it, I think this area is probably super crowded if you come on the weekend. The restaurant was already packed and it's a Monday night.... Customer Service: it was great. We got seated pretty quick and they would come over to our table to check on us multiple times. I also asked for extra chili powder and they gave it to me without hesitation Misc: the decor inside was beautiful so definitely an aesthetically pleasing restaurant. Food came out in a timely manner. The food is a little pricey compared to other Thai places but I think it's worth it because they are located in a good area and their restaurant has great food and customer service. Was initially skeptical getting Thai in Paso Robles but it was good! Super friendly and attentive service. The larb gai wasn't great but the wok fried eggplant with seafood combo was amazing. The banana leaf salmon with coconut rice was also good. The coconut rice even had bits of real coconut in it. They don't have outdoor seating, so we ordered takeout. They said half an hour. It was more like 40 minutes. They gave us white rice instead of brown rice. The tom kha gai had no vegetables except for a few slivers of onion. It was too sweet with almost no spice. The pad thai had the same problems. I didn't have the yellow curry, but my husband reported that at least it had some spice. Too sweet too. And runny. Really disappointing in a bona fide foodie place like Paso Robles. read more

Basil Thai is one of the few Thai restaurants in Paso. I've dined in a few times but usually I get my food to go. I call about 15 minutes prior and then my food is typically ready by then. Every time I'm in town I always try to get an order of their mango sticky rice. The rice is blue here so visually it makes it more fun. I've ordered the Crying Tiger and it wasn't bad. The sauce makes it great and ties the flavors together. Pad Thai - I like how it comes with all types of protein so I don't have to choose which one I want. Overall, it's pretty good and it's one of my go to dishes to order. Prices are kind of high for what it is, but I'm from a part of Southern California where Thai food is fairly common. Prices are also comparable to the other restaurants nearby but it's all relative. Sometimes when I do pass through Paso I do want Thai food so I continue to come back. Parking: There's street parking all around but sometimes there are events going on so it makes it a bit trickier during busy times. read more

Kids would like that and it keeps the food warm. I would give this place a solid 3.5 805 beer on draft. You can't go wrong with it. They made it pretty good. I was so full just with those 2 dishes. Server was friendly and accommodating. I didn't get a chance to check their bathroom, but overall experience was good. Will definitely return if I'm in town. I was disappointed. First, I tried to make a reservation and was told they were closed for the time I wanted. We just just decided to walk downtown and take our chances getting in somewhere in Paso on a Friday night. To our surprise Basil was open and empty at the time we wanted a reservation. This is in my opinion, one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. I had never been there before or, even had Thai before. But, I have been here many times now and I have been pleased pretty much every time. The only reason my review isn't a 5 star was because of my last experience. We had the sweet crispy basil chicken. We have had it several times and I have always enjoyed it. This time, the chicken was a bit over cooked. I'm sure it was just a mistake. We had the Satay for the appetizer and it was spot on. Basil can be ordered for delivery through Grubhub during the pandemic. My favorite has always been Pineapple Fried Rice. When Basil is open, this dish is served in 1/2 of a pineapple and includes shrimp, chicken, onions, cashews, pineapple and curry. Try it. You'll like it! read more

I'd like to give them higher rating but I have to be honest. First off, we came in around 840 pm, and they close at 930pm. Farily empty, probably about 20% occupied. We were ignored and were waiting right by the entrance for about 15 minutes before the bartender (who also turned out to be our waiter) acknowledged us. Then he told one of the waitresses that we needed a table for 2 and it probably took another 10 minutes before she acknowledged us. (common courtesy to tell your customers "Hi, give us a few minutes and we'll get you seated."; instead of ignoring them) So their service off the bat was poor. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. My wife ordered the pad thai with chicken and shrimp. It was ok. Not bad. However, my food was horrible. I ordered the BBQ Chicken. It was served on a metal pan with blue flames burning for a good 10 minutes. Looks cool as for presentation but the actual chicken was horrible. Of course they had to put something in the pan to make it burn with blue flames, however this corrupted the taste of the chicken. It had a very strong alcohol taste and smell (almost like bacardi 151 - to those who have not had it, it taste like gasoline!). Needless to say it ruined my meal. I hope this was only my experience, and not for the majority of those visiting Paso Robles. Needless to say, we will NOT be going back here. read more
