    Fried rice

While visiting Paso we were looking for some good food and decided on Thai and found Basil open on a Thursday evening. We were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. The restaurant is family friendly and a nice date night spot. Me and the hubby ordered the golden bags, shrimp rolls and fried crispy chicken to share as appetizers. The golden bags and shrimp rolls were crunchy and flavorful but the crispy chicken was not that great. It was to bready and not crispy at all, the dipping sauce though that came with it was good. For entrees I ordered the wonton soup and the hubby ordered the fried rice. My wonton soup was good, but nothing special. The fried rice was delicious though and I should have ordered that!

What a fabulous meal. It's been 14 years since I've eaten here, because I moved to Tennessee in 2010 and just moved back this year. I would drive from Morro Bay all the time to eat here. It was nice to come back and find that the food is still great! And the service is top notch, as well! Today I had the Beef Salad and the sticky rice with mango! It was nice, light, and very tasty! This is a very pretty restaurant as well, I love the decor, it's nice and comfy!

A nice thai spot in Paso Robles What I ate: - Cup of the Tom Kha soup w/chicken. This was just right. I wanted some warm soup and this hit the spot - Pad see ewe. This was also pretty good. Exactly what you'd expect - Mango sticky rice: I was really happy to see this on the menu as it was the season and they used the best mangos. This was a great carby way to finish the meal Pros: - Pretty large dining area. I went in during the middle of the week on the earlier side for dinner and there was plenty of seating. - Staff were all smiling and polite - It seemed like majority of the orders filled that night were for takeout - A small but good wine/beer list - Free street parking was easily found about 2 blocks away, paid parking easy to find in front - Bathroom was clean Cons: - None that I could think of Would I come again? Sure

Ambience is nice for a small place. They have a full bar. Located in downtown. The service is great. The food is more American - Thai, however, we told our server to tell the chef that we want real spicy authentic Thai cooking. They were happy to do so & accommodated us. The food came out really flavorful l. We asked for spicy, and we got it. A great restaurant. I definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Sticky rice only. No Mango. No Sweet Coconut. No Mung Beans. No flavor.

Order multiple dishes by Door Dash. All were OK and lacked real Thai flavor profile you might expect. Extremely disappointed with the sticky rice. It was literally only sticky rice. No Mango, No coconut milk. No Mung Beans. I went to the restaurant the next day to give them a chance to make it right. Their original claim was that this is the way it comes on Door Dash, only sticky rice. She claimed that many people order this way. It wasn't until I showed them the online picture that she changed the story. I requested a simple refund and they were not having it. The only resolution they offer was to remake it for me. I only took it since that was my only option. Not good for business.

Delicious lemongrass shrimp salad with a citrus lime dressing.

Located in the heart of downtown Paso and right next to the park is Basil Thai with a large dining room, friendly, attentive servers, and excellent curry and shrimp salad. The curry had the perfect amount of heat and very flavorful. Generous wine pours and an efficient kitchen make this our go-to restaurant for Thai food in Paso.

We were a party of four, seated quickly and our server came up after 5 minutes or so, asked about drinks. We ordered he brought them and then disappeared...didn't ask if we wanted appetizers. We stopped him on his next lap passing by and asked for edamame, he brought one order and left. Had to stop him again and asked for another order as he didn't wait long enough for us to say two orders the first time...he dropped it off and gone againWe were ready to order so we had to flag him down again. Finally ordered and he brings one order...then 5 minutes later another order...and then 5 minutes for the next order and then closer to 10 minutes for the last order. No apparent thought given to bringing everything at the same time so we can all eat together? Very sad as we have always enjoyed eating here...maybe they were too busy but good service should always be a foremost goal of a restaurant...

The staff are extremely friendly and checked on us more than once as well as gave us a rundown of how everything worked. I had the ribeye steak tacos and I thought they were delicious. The steak was tender and well cooked, the avocado was fresh and the salsa was very flavorful with just the right amount of heat. My wife had the blackened tofu tacos and wasn't as thrilled as I was. She found them a little bit bland even with the peanut sauce and didn't understand putting cabbage on something that's already lettuce wrapped. Overall it was still a good experience and I'd definitely stop in again if I'm in the area.

The smell was so good that I drove around the strip mall parking lot trying to track down the source. That search led us to China Gourmet, a very unassuming restaurant tucked away in the shopping center. Once inside, you're transported into a charming mom-and-pop Chinese restaurant. The décor is simple, comfortable, and fitting for the space, creating a welcoming atmosphere. After looking through the menu, we decided on the Chef's Special Dinner. For our entrées, we chose the Chow Fun Noodles with Beef, Sizzling Black Pepper Beef, and Chicken Fried Rice. Appetizers included Egg Rolls, Deep-Fried Shrimp, and BBQ Ribs. The meal also came with a bowl of War Wonton Soup. Everything was freshly prepared and made to order. The ingredients tasted fresh, the flavors were well balanced, and every dish was cooked properly. The standout item for us was the Chow Fun Noodles with Beef. The tender beef and perfectly cooked noodles made it the highlight of the meal. Everything paired nicely with a chilled glass of Hexamer Riesling. To top it all off, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, and all of our dishes arrived in a timely manner. We'll definitely be back for another visit.

She recommended sitting at the bar, so we did just that, and it was such a good choice. It was really fun to watch them cook and get to chat with the owner while he did so. We asked the owner what he recommended, and the calamari appetizer was his highlight. We started with that, and it was great. While everything else in the meal was also really good, this was the highlight and I'd absolutely get it again and again. For mains we got the scallop and scampi pasta over pasta and the trio fish plate special. Narrowing it down to these two wasn't easy since everything on the menu sounded good. I would get both items again, but will probably get something else next time just to try more of the menu. We came in right as they opened on a weekday evening, so we had the place to ourselves to start. It did start to fill in fairly quickly, so I would imagine it gets crowded on weekends.

I thought the seafood pasta would be a good choice! It was loaded with all kinds of good bits... clams, shrimp, mussels, calamari and maybe a few other little fishies. The problem was ALL of the seafood was overcooked beyond belief. It was really ruined because of that. The bar area was packed, so they're doing something right, but this place just wasn't for me. There are plenty of other places around the area. They also didn't have a bar! I wanted a cocktail after a day of wine sampling and NOT more wine. 6 Star Alert. 6 star Alert. 6 star Alert. 6 star Alert…read more SIX STAR ALERT. SIX STAR ALERT. That right people, I said it.... And 6 times to be exact! Because let me tell you, the Spice of Life in Downtown Paso Robles not only deserves those 6 stars, but they truly EARNED each & every star (plus a bonus star) that I am awarding them for their exceptional hospitality. Now, let me tell you why! While in Paso for my wife's weekend birthday getaway, we had such fun time casually strolling the streets with no where to be. While window shopping, going in and out of the various shops, and just meandering through the downtown area.... We suddenly came across a little business called: The Spice of Life From the outside, it was pretty obvious what we were about to get into... ----Spices----Herbs----Teas---- Hey, they had me at Spices, but the rest is what kept me from leaving there anytime soon. Upon entering this quaint little shop, we were immediately immersed into a world that I Love. Spices, Spices and more Spices!!! Yeah, I'm that guy that at home, not in public of course, that will put a little spice on my hand and lick it off (to test it of course). I know, but I'm just a spice freak, what can I say! Yeah, give me a good lemon pepper, a blended steak seasoning or even a Kansas City Bbq Rub and I'll gladly give it the "Lance Lick of Approval". Yeah, I'm a Spice Man, & I'm not afraid to admit it. And let me tell you, this place has got spices!! Yeah, there are Jars and Jars, & more Jars of the finest, most incredible spices you can dream of. But on Top of the Spices... There are Oils, Vinegars, Teas, Tea Accessories, Herbal Supplements, Books, and More! And with all that shopping... Why not grab a quick bite alongside a freshly brewed coffee or tea at their mini cafe right on the premises. Heck, we did! (We had the Vanilla Chai Tea Latte) And it was Fire! So what makes this place earn a well deserved 6 star review?? It wasn't just their great product. Or even their beautifully prepared drink. It was their hospitality, their graciousness, and the human connection that we felt that went above the typical customer vs. retailer interaction. The lady who assisted us (forgive me but I forget her name) but she might have been maybe the owner or maybe even manager of the place was so kind, helpful and made our experience exceptional, so thank you for that! With so many great gift ideas and things that we needed for our own household, you know we did some damage and got a few things to take back home. So.... If you are a fan of spices like me, love yourself some tea, are looking for some unique, fun gift ideas or just want to enjoy a nice, quaint shop where the service hopefully exceeds your expectations like it did for me... Then take my highly recommended suggestion and get over to the... Spice of Life in Downtown Paso Robles ASAP!!!
