6:00 Friday night, Easter weekend and I can't remember ever seeing it this busy here???!!! Food was good as always but tonight's service was the worst we have ever experienced! We were a party of four, seated quickly and our server came up after 5 minutes or so, asked about drinks. We ordered he brought them and then disappeared...didn't ask if we wanted appetizers. We stopped him on his next lap passing by and asked for edamame, he brought one order and left. Had to stop him again and asked for another order as he didn't wait long enough for us to say two orders the first time...he dropped it off and gone againWe were ready to order so we had to flag him down again. Finally ordered and he brings one order...then 5 minutes later another order...and then 5 minutes for the next order and then closer to 10 minutes for the last order. No apparent thought given to bringing everything at the same time so we can all eat together? Very sad as we have always enjoyed eating here...maybe they were too busy but good service should always be a foremost goal of a restaurant... read more

Normally this place is good enough for takeout. I tried a slightly different roll and got some old, tough and gross Tuna. The roll with eel and their namesake also wasn't super fresh tasting. We get takeout sushi once a month or so and it's going to be a long time before we consider gambling on this place again. read more

We hadn't been here in years, particularly after their big norovirus issue. Service: Great. Not super surprising since we were the only customers at ~11:45 AM on a Saturday, but our server was attentive, helpful, and great. Ambiance: It's alright. Food: It was okay. I was expecting langostino on the "lobster" roll, and it indeed was- but these were the weirdest, most rubbery and gristly tiny little guys that I've ever seen. Way downhill from years ago. My husband's katsudon was under-seasoned but meh, okay. The hot night roll was fine, if something was a little unusual in the spicy ahi. So, why a two-star review? A sushi chef (I assume- one of two guys standing directly at the sushi bar) was visibly and audibly hacking/coughing, sneezing, and blowing his nose while standing directly at the sushi bar. Having heard a lot of coughing and being sort of alert to it, I watched after he blew his nose into a paper, and he did not leave to wash his hands- instead working on prep, handling plates and utensils for customers. Big yikes- looked down at our sushi bar meals and internally cringed. Never again for us. read more

Decent sushi in Paso with good service. The older woman at the front just stared people down as they entered and left but the the rest of the staff was friendly and efficient. No problem with the service. It's more of a roll type sushi place and pretty basic stuff with a bunch of other non sushi options. They were out of gyoza and takoyaki which was disappointing. Sushi: generous portions, yellowtail and salmon were very good, octopus was awful. Way overcooked and tough. Barely chewable. The rice was just ok. The spider hand roll was great. A lot of crab and fresh. Didn't really like the sauce but it was not bad. So an ok experience as I was craving sushi. Service and ambience nice. Could walk in on a Friday but it was getting crowded when we left. read more

This is the Sushi place we go almost once every 2 weeks before we had our baby. Food is good but the older lady just does not like kids. She would not give regular table for older kid and forces bigger toddler to use high chair even thought they don't fit in it. We had to leave the place after waiting 30 minutes in line to get in because she refused to sit my baby on regular chair. This place has gone down pretty bad, all they care about is number of people in and out, gather plates as your people are still enjoying the meal. Make you feel rushed to finish and leave. Good note: there's Shushi place name Umi sushi couple blocks from Yanagi and they are top notch. Open space, great service, people who work there look happy and do not rush you out. read more

I understand that we're in Paso Robles, and choices are very limited, but this place is okay at best but overpriced. The service and ambiance were really good. I have no complaints about that. The restaurant is very clean, and the server was attentive and ensured we had our drinks and refilled them on time. My issue was with the prices and quality of food. Chicken Teriyaki Bowl: The chicken was tough and probably not fresh, as it did not taste fresh. Also, $15 for this is overpriced. There was nothing special about this bowl. Rainbow Roll: The price could have been better for the quality of the fish used. I tried to look for something decently priced, and this was one of the closest ones. The taste and quality were okay but overpriced. It's an okay place to go to. They are not bad, but I can't say they were amazing. read more

Picked up a to go order. After checking order there was no sides. Went back and asked the guy working at the register if I can get my sides. He sighs and says I guess and grabs one side of spicy mayo and ginger. He said thats all he can give me. This after a $ 150 order. Now I see why people are no longer recommending them. read more

Went back two days in a row. We loved the yellowtail & albacore tataki's! I also tried a roll i forgot the name of it though, but yummy as well. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef took our entire order both times. Tomago isn't your made in house tomago I was super bummed. But other than that we loved it and will be bacon ambiance is definitely a crowd of regulars that come often with their families which was nice to see!! read more

The sushi was mediocre. The roll description was avocado not cucumber but the roll had cucumber and no avocado. Spicy tuna pretty tasteless.

The vibes at this location was pretty chill as it was in the heart of downtown Paso Robles. The location had plenty of parking and the inside was quite spacious. The staff was very kind and attentive. My boyfriend and I came an hour before closing, but were seated immediately and treated very kindly. Since we did come an hour before closing, we ordered quickly and served swiftly. We've gone to the Yanagi location in Pismo Beach, and knew of their sushi boat and wanted to give the Paso location a try ... THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The sashimi and nigiri tasted fresh and the rolls (which were Chef picked) were pretty dang good too. The boat came with miso soup and salad, though I didn't care much for the salad, the miso was a perfect little appetizer. We had also ordered a Dragon Roll and a Golden California Roll- both being yummy and though basic rolls, still tasted great. To be honest, I somewhat prefer the Paso location over the Pismo location - the staff was kinder and more attentive even though we came in an hour before closing. Will definitely be coming back :) read more

I thought we were headed to our go to mexican place taco mafia but CJ had said she was buying dinner tonight of course at the place of her choice. "How bout sushi tonight"...sure, lets go. Nearly 9 when we arrived seating wasn't a problem but was told the counter was closed...okay. The table for two was just fine, I personally prefer sitting next to my gal as opposed to across the table from her. Alex was our server, just in from Vegas he was good, fun, and knew his sushi. We wound up ordering three rolls and the wonton appetizer. Very good, all of it. Fresh, looked great and tasted very good. Okay this is a good sushi place, really good. Pricing was what you would expect these days, we were out the door for a bill. It felt like our new go to neighborhood sushi place and I'll go with that. Foodguy-martin read more

We were looking for lunch on Christmas Day and not many places were open so we were thankful Yanagi was open. They are located in downtown Paso and thankfully we found parking nearby. First two hours are free parking which I loved! We were greeted and sat down right away. Hubby ordered a Sapporo beer and I ordered a Shirley temple. The Shirley temple was way too sweet for my liking and needed some water to dilute the taste. For our meal, we ordered 3 sushi rolls which we shared. We ordered the Crunchy roll, Red dragon roll and the Tarantula roll. All the rolls were delicious and our favorite was the red dragon roll since they used a red chili oil that paired perfectly . The cost overall was $75 with tip. Inside it felt very family friendly and not crazy loud or anything. The service was good and our waitress was attentive. I definitely would recommend this place for lunch or dinner and come with an appetite!! read more

My family and I visit Paso every year and have tried most of the places in the area. Yanagi and the Thai place across the street are reliably open on the holidays - like Christmas/Thanksgiving when we usually visit, and we're so grateful for them! I went recently with some friends and had a similar experience as before. SO MANY OPTIONS on the menu. It's not your traditional Japanese place but it offers exactly the type of sushi I like (I know...my sushi connoisseurs would shame me, but Lion King is my kind of roll!) We ordered the Nabeyaki Udon and the Combination Plate. I've had better udon, but it was perfect for a rainy day. The Combo plate was a great deal too - you get a roll, choice of meat, and salad. Between the 3 of us, we ordered 3 plates (pictured) which satiated our appetites! read more

Yanagi Sushi is a surprise. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside, boom! Packed, great vibe, great menu, and great sushi. I went here with my mother and younger brother on Sunday evening. We planned to eat Thai food, but when we parked, we saw Yanagi restaurant right in front of us, so we decided to go in. It was unplanned, but it was well worth it. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. My younger brother enjoyed his meal very much. My mother loved the restaurant's salad; it was very fresh and tasty. It's definitely worth trying, and I will return to this restaurant if I travel here again. read more

On Christmas Eve we tried the Yanagi sushi. We received Great and pleasant service. The first coarse for us was crunchy tempura shrimp sushi with mayo, it was a bomb. Super soft and fluffy inside , and crunchy outside. The next step was trying the boat for 2. The boat contained 6 other options as you are seeing on the picture , each boat comes with soup and rice. I really enjoyed the salmon and chicken skewers. The quality is high so definitely coming back for try their sashimi's this time. read more

Certainly one of my preferred uncomplicated, effortlessly stylish sushi establishments across much of the U.S. Chef Tom presents sashimi-grade seafood comparable to the finest omakase venues, featuring generous portions of neta. I appreciate his inclusion of extra pieces of loose uni and bluefin when assembling sushi, along with the additional bluefin sushi nigiri on the plate--truly an embodiment of bluefin sushi. Most notably, Chef Tom's shari boasts delightful flavor and impeccable cooking. His sushi rolls not only boast a well-proportioned amount of rice but also strike a harmonious balance with the generous fillings. The Futomaki, in particular, is remarkably "fat," substantial, and presented in an indulgent set of six pieces--truly a feast for the hungry. I consistently designate it as a must-visit during our road trips from San Francisco to Los Angeles or on the way back. The service is outstanding, with a special mention to Pallaton T, who consistently remembers us from our annual road trip, ensuring a personalized touch. In summary, an utterly fantastic experience awaits, and you'll find nothing to disappoint on the menu. read more
