I've been trying to find more keto options in Paso Robles since I'm here for work and hotel living doesn't allow me to cook my own meals. I decided to call Sushi Kokku and ask if they have rolls w/out rice. The gentleman who answered was so kind and said they can make any roll w/out rice. He gave me suggestions, and I decided on the Texas Roll. Absolutely amazing! Even though I was fully prepared for my roll to be wrapped in cucumber I am extremely excited to see that it wasn't! MUST TRY FOR LOW CARB PEEPS Definitely my new place to go, and can't wait to try other Keto friendly rolls! He also asked if I want a big or small roll...love the option. When you call in to pick up or eat in, the sushi is fresh and delicious. I frequently pick up or Door Dash. This eve we ordered by Door Dash, the tempura arrive soggy, and the hand rolls, one had the ground up tuna mush and the other the fake crab. These were not sushi hand rolls. Hands rolls should have sashimi/sushi fish, not mush. Typically Kokku will call me and ask which fish for hand rolls, like I said I order regularly the hand rolls with Salmon. The option to customize on the Door Dash site has been grayed out and is no longer an option. I recommend don't Door Dash, order for pick up. Much more reliable. I wish they would add options back to the Hand Rolls read more

Stopped by for dinner for some sushi. When you walk in you order at the counter. Their portions are quite large and you can easily share with someone. We ordered the Dynamite, Dragon and California roll. All sushi rolls come with a salad, ginger and wasabi. For the non special sushi's they add a sauce on top. I wish I would have known or they would mentioned it because my little one was no happy when it came out. So we had to order a second one without the sauce. The ambiance is ok. They feature colorful pieces and have a tv near for some of the tables. It was kinda stuffy inside, I wish it was a bit more cooler inside. Classical music was streaming from KUSC, giving a chill atmosphere for relaxing and enjoying one's meal. The menu concentrates on sushi rolls, and offers a very nice selection of traditional ones and their own creations as well. They also offer niguri sushi, tempuras, rice bowls, udons, salads, as well as few other Japanese cuisine options. Today we opted for the Dynamite roll and Crazy roll. The Dynamite roll consists of a California roll topped with a generous portion of spicy scallops. The Crazy roll is huge, stuffed with spicy tuna, spicy crab, cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, jalapeño & tamago. The roll is then covered in tempura and lightly deep fried. The sushi was shockingly bland, and every single roll was smothered in a weird, mustard-colored sauce that did nothing but mask the poor quality of the ingredients. It felt like they were trying to drown out any actual flavor with that overpowering goop. Instead of fresh, clean-tasting sushi, I got a mess of sauces trying (and failing) to cover up how bad the food really was. Expensive for the food but it is always delicious. I would suggest calling while driving over so that you can get your food right when you arrive. Went for a light lunch at Sushi Kokku today and was very disappointed. Ordered the Rainbow Roll and it seemed as if it were premade and had been sitting out. It was warm and the salmon had an off taste. The slaw was heavy with a mayo taste. The tuna was an unusual red color as was the pickled ginger. The lady's bathroom was in disrepair, blinds falling down, but the toilet appeared clean. We used to love coming here but this time, due to the off taste of the fish, we were afraid to eat all of the roll. We asked if it was under new ownership and was told it wasn't. Can't trust the owner when he rings me up. Usually I pay with my bank card and don't ask for a receipt. When I was looking at my bank statement I noticed that two separate times he charged me twice for the same dish. Once is possibly a mistake, two times though?! I like the food, didn't want to stop going so I decided to just pay cash. Problem solved, right? No. Today I came in, ordered my usual, paid with cash but I was charged more than the actual price. Sushi Kokku is the type of restaurant that I enjoy and eat at pretty regularly, but don't recommend when someone asks for a sushi restaurant. It's good quality sushi, but very basic, nothing fancy. The establishment is clean, the staff is friendly, you order at the counter and then seat yourself. I call in take out orders pretty frequently. I stick with the rainbow roll, it's good and comes with a side of Cole slaw and plenty of ginger. I've never been disappointed with their food, but don't expect anything fancy. read more

My food is usually good from this place. But this time 9/4/21 I ordered meal on doordash for pick up at 12:05 pm. I got a notification from doordash at 11:34 a.m. my order was ready for pick up. I got to the restaurant at 12:07p.m. and my order was sitting on the counter waiting. I asked the girl at the counter if my order has been out this whole time and she lied to me told me "No. We just made it." I got home less than a 5 minute drive and my spicy tuna roll was warm. Great good. Always reliable quality. Good prices. Quick. I always get the combo with CA rolls, Vege & shrimp tempura. You get a choice of a soda or the Miso soup, and I get soup. They have cups there and you get your own cold water. I like extra wasabe with my meal. Spicy! I have recently had issues with the food taking too long. I was waiting and they had no veges. prepped for the tempura and I had to wait about 15 minutes as I heard them chopping and chopping. Prior to that I have never had an issue. So I will continue to go back and hope they have things organized better. I love the food! The CA rolls are so fresh and my daughter loves the spicy tuna rolls. Love, love, LOVE this place. Everytime I come in here the inside is nice and clean, and the staff has always been super friendly to me. Several times I've called in ahead to place an order, and it's always ready when I get there! The menu consists of your gyoza's, tempura veggies and shrimp, miso soup, and ALL kinds of rolls for decent prices. They even have combos, so you can mix and match. This isn't some fancy, upscale place with a coated chef, just a quaint little mom and pop shop that serves up awesome food. Perfect for just a quick service with out waiting to get seated an all that and when most sushi places are closed during a certain time in the day and on Sunday's this spot is always open and that's probably why we love it. We will never go back to this place. We got a small order just so we could try it out. Not many places we're open on a Sunday afternoon. We order 2 albacore, one California roll, spicy tuna roll, and a miso. The miso was pretty good so we had high expectations for the rest of the food. The California roll was soooo bland. They use fake crab meat sticks with a crab meat mixed with Mayo rather than maracapone. I feel like the crab meat stick is like having convenience store sushi or something a kid makes at home. I don't think the rice was sushi rice. It had no vinegar flavor. The albacore was also bland and had no sauce, which is fine since the sauce on California roll was so bland and just tasted like Mayo. As for the spicy tuna roll, we can't comment because they gave us a second order of awful California roll. I can't believe they charged $10 for that awful California roll. read more
