I met up with a friend here while I was in New York and I will say this is a cool little place in Chinatown. The door is kind of like a secret door down stairs, which makes the entrance unique. The prices of the drinks are actually pretty decent as well and it gives a cool vibe and they also have a game room in the back. Once inside, the space had plenty of seating with beer pong tables. Since it was still early, it wasn't busy at all when we arrived. I got the HK Milk Punch ($16) while the boyfriend had the Chinatown Old Fashioned ($25). I also love that they offer FREE popcorn. And this isn't just regular butter popcorn, but a bit of a caramel-glazed popcorn. This is perfect with the drinks. While I didn't think the HK Milk Punch didn't really taste like a milk tea (if that's what they're going for), it was still refreshing and good. The Old Fashioned was strong too albeit quite pricey. The drinks here are alright but the one thing that really upset me. I ordered a few rounds of shots and drinks but realized when I was handed the machine to sign after he swiped my card, I couldn't input a tip. I realized he himself added an over 30% tip.... There was no option to change it or back out, just to sign. That was ridiculous if he thought we got drunk enough to where we wouldn't realize or remember this happening. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe he misclicked it before handing me the machine but when I told my friends about this incident, they said he did the same thing to them. I come here often with groups of friends or when I want to catch up with someone, but this last time was different. A came with a friend at around 8PM. I don't drink, because I'm fairly allergic to alcohol. I asked one of the servers if they had mocktails and she said they did, so I ordered one. I drank around a quarter of it before feeling like something was wrong. When I asked the server about it, I guess there was some miscommunication because the bartender heard "mojito" instead of "mocktail". I feel like they couldn't really care less about it. The server apologized but that was all. God forbid I was deathly allergic to it, the situation could've been so much worse. Great addition to the neighborhood. Located in old Chinatown, the Basement bar is exactly what it sounds - you take a few flight of stairs to a basement where the door is an old vending machine. It's got hidden bar vibes and once you open the Coca cola vending machine door you're in this cavernous bar set up with multiple tables, 2 beer pong tables, and a few dart boards at back. Cool spot to hangout with friends or bring a date here. I came here with my girlfriend and later a few friends joined us on a Saturday night at around 7pm. Bar wasn't packed at 7, but did become super packed towards the end of night at 11. We ordered about 6-7 drinks for a first round and that bill came out to be ~$105 tip not included. Not bad at all. The drinks - we got the Monkey King (x4), Made in Brooklyn, and Shanghai Mule. Favorites were CLEARLY the Monkey King. The drinks were super flavorful and aesthetic. Loved how the monkey king came with a few blue berries as nibbles. Shanghai Mule was their twist of a moscow mule, couldn't go wrong with that during a summer night. Made in Brooklyn was also surprisingly refreshing and good! Also love how they serve complimentary popcorn as a bar snack. We ended up ordering a couple of these on the house!
