A few…read moremonths ago, our water heater failed, and we thought,, well, this is an inconvenience, but at least it's under warranty. Then, in my opinion, the scam Payless runs was clear. They highlight the warranty during the sale, but they don't tell you the warranty is between Payless and the water heater company, it's not between you and the water heater company. It's in THEIR best interest if the water heater fails. They get the new heater under the warranty, and then charge a significant amount to install the new one, at, essentially the same cost as an entirely new system. I asked if they could drop off the new heater and we would have it installed by a different plumber, for a SIGNIFICANT amount less, and the answer was no. I pushed back on the cost, and they agreed to drop the install fee by $300 (give or take) if we didn't get the required permit. Do NOT purchase a water heater from this company. It is their best interest if it fails. They make 'free' money. Incredibly disappointing.

The first company that came out charged me $99 for an inspection and estimate and claimed that I needed to replace all my vents (switching from single-wall to double-wall). During my research, I also considered installing a tankless water heater to avoid dealing with vents altogether and obtained estimates for that option. Pablo offered to install a high-quality tankless at a reasonable price, while other companies suggested lower-quality units at equal or higher prices. He arrived right on time, started by scoping the sewer from an existing cleanout, and clearly explained what he was seeing and what it meant--step by step--so we felt informed the entire time. What really impressed me was how thorough and persistent he was. He continued the inspection from the front of the house where the cleanout was extremely difficult to locate. When he couldn't find it easily, he went through the toilet, pinpointed the cleanout location, found that it was buried underground, uncovered it, opened it, and ran the camera through that line to make sure there were no root issues or hidden problems. He didn't stop there. He also opened a sealed cleanout and ran the camera through that side as well, just to confirm the other portion of the house didn't have roots or any concerns. With the help of a factory tech at Navien, Joseph was able to quickly diagnose and correct the problem associated with that code and didn't require an new parts to make that happen. As I am not a professional, I would have taken Joseph's direction if he had wanted to up-sell me, but he did NOT exploit that opportunity. His honesty, competence and desire to invest in repeat business overrode the pure profit motive and that will serve both he and his company very well. The AI phone interface can be frustrating, but there are good people working there who are trying to do the right thing. It just might take a little bit of patience to get the right person on the other end of the phone. I do know that they are addressing this problem. Julian is my plumber and Sam is my HVAC guy and when they come to the house it's like having old friends visit. At the end of the day, that's what keeps me coming back to them. The work is solid, the technicians are knowledgeable, and when something does come up they stand behind what they do. Eleven years later, that still says a lot about the kind of company they are.
