This is an old school mall from the 1980s but has been updated through the years and currently a Simon mall. It is the best indoor mall in Austin and could get better if Sears was demolished and replaced by something higher end. The best stores are on the leg from the center of the mall to Nordstrom. But some of the popular stores like Apple have been strategically placed throughout the mall. The food court is small noticed kept clean. Two restaurants are in the mall and another outside. It sits on a hillside with perfect views of downtown Austin but can't enjoy it being inside. Would be nice if Simon would redevelop this property to something similar to the Domain and build a tower with restaurant to enjoy the great views of Austin. Only drawbacks include no Tommy Bahama, better restaurants, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Simon also need to follow Disney Springs to not allow stores to post Sale (30, 50, 70% off) signs from view of outside store which makes the mall look low class. Also watch out exiting the mall onto Loop 360 where many try to beat the light and many traffic accidents occur here and have seen one with many close calls. I suggest parking near Nordstrom where security seems to better here versus parking next to JCPenny. From shopping at the new Nordstrom at Domain Northside this Nordstrom looks outdated and hopefully get updated. Otherwise it is a great place to shop and buy authentic apparel versus shopping at the outlet malls and still find great deals. read more

Terrible customer service. My wife found a $78 sweater she wanted. There was a white sticker on it that said $69 and then a tag around the hanger that said take an additional $30 off. The employees and manager went into a little routine with us saying that the $30 won't come off the $69 sticker because it was marked in correctly. Uh . . . that's your problem. Give us the reduction on the price marked. I went back and forth politely stating my case to a couple of clueless part timers and a manager with the looks and demeanor of Peter Lorre. Finally Mr. Lorre seemed to relent, but then just ran off like a smarmy little toad. One of the part timers had to check us out but of course didn't have a code to reduce the price and had to go find Mr. Lorre for help. After another 10 minutes the transaction was complete. The most amazing thing? Nobody seemed very concerned about correcting the price stickers. Plenty of part timers standing around. What is this? Some kind of bait and switch? I truly despise this store. My wife liked it, but she probably won't return. read more

To all the haterz: Good grief, where do you people shop?? And don't say Dallas. This is easily the best mall in Austin. The Domain is too high-end for regular shopping (and who wants to shop outside in Texas in August?), Lakeline lacks a Nordstrom, and Highland Mall is just...sad. Barton Creek has all of my favorite mall staples (Macy's, Gap, Sephora, J.Crew, Victoria's Secret, Forever 21, etc.), and if you go on a weeknight you can pretty much have the place to yourself. Minus one star because of the ho-hum food court. Chick-fil-a is good, but that's about it. It'd be nice if they could put another sit-down restaurant in the mall, or a Panera or something. Bonus: the parking lot has the best view of the city. Way better than Mount Bonnell and without the walk to the top. read more

Wow, I see we can review malls, did not know this, but I should have since we can review babies, squirrels, 2010, and other things. I have been to this mall quite a few times, I like it, and I seem to always get what I need when I go there. I had to get a battery for my car at Sears one time, and browsed stuff while I was there. It didn't take too long. I also ordered store doors form here and they even arranged installation. Wait maybe this should be a Sears review. Hum two reviews I can do. There is a hamburger place in the food mall area that I like, I get one every time I go there. It is a long way from RR but I still seem to end up here some. Maybe because I never go to Highland Mall which I think may be relatively gone now. However, in general I like to avoid malls but when I do go I seem to end up here instead of Lakeline and I don't know why. This mall is relatively easy to get into and out of and has ample parking and you can even view downtown from certain sections of the parking lot. Would I go back? This is a beautiful two story mall. Must be because it's a Simon Mall (also own The Domain). Decor is nice and the mall is clean. Location is great. If you utilize the parking between Macy's and Dillards, you will be surprised at how gorgeous the view is overlooking the city. This is when you realize that the mall is sitting on a large hill. Issues: There is an overload of Dillards. Since moving to Austin two months ago, I have not found an area or mall that caters to + size women. Barton Creek, being a mall, was my last hope. Even the Old Navy didn't have any + sizes when they normal do. At least the ones' back home in Madison, WI sold + sizes. Where the hell do you shop at if you're larger than a size 12 in Austin!? If someone knows, please do fill me in. I've had to shop online exclusively since moving to the area. I was happy to learn that Talbots did run larger sizes but $60 for a shirt is more than I can afford. I am wondering if this is an issue with all of Simon Malls where they are anti + sizes. read more

It has been ages since I have been to a mall and now I remember why I love shopping in person for clothes and such. I am guilty of having a love affair with on-line shopping but, there's something about being able to try things on and search for that great deal through the sale racks that I love. This mall has most of the store that I enjoy shopping at Nordstroms, Macy's, Wet Seal, Claire's and William Sonoma. The stores are a little more pricey than I remember them being but, this is a really nice and well kept mall in a nice area so, I expect to pay more. Of course they also have the dreaded kiosks in the center of the mall such as the people trying to sell you exfoliating cream for $200.00. Ugh so annoying! The parking lot was really packed but, it was two days after Christmas the first time that I was there and the second time was right after New Years so, it may have just been because of that. They have sit down restaurants, a food court and a movie theater as well. I'll come here from now on when I need my mall fix. read more

did i want to go shopping? not really. did i have a choice? not really. i was feeling perfectly fine before entering this store. but finding parking then entering dillards and being shot with a cannon full of bad perfume reminds me why i hate malls. yet, this mall gave me a headache unlike other malls. it's noisy, crowded, and smells. it's confusing, hot, and stuffy. i kept getting head rushes (you know..where you feel light headed for a couple seconds) so i decided to eat some food. mmmm...delicious crappy food court food. nom nom nom it only made my headache worse. walking into the ever growing forever 21 drove me over the top. i use to love the store. but it is just getting out of control. and the bazillion lights don't help. i had to leave. immediately. i sat outside to collect my brain together.. finally, as soon as i left the mall and walked to the car, i amazingly felt so much better. i could breathe air and not have blinding lights all over me. oh yeah, this mall also has poor planning in the road design. getting in and out of the mall to the highway is a MESS! online shopping is the way to go people! read more

Reading the reviews made me laugh. Everyone on here is in denial about the mall. Since when is it not "cool" to go to a mall? Malls are where stores are..... plain and simple. If you want to be a functioning member of society than you have to step foot in one occasionally. Where else do you find a department store? Or an Apple Store? Since when are these things un-cool? While I agree that a lot of the stores in the mall are not my taste, I would disagree and say that this is a pretty desent mall. All of you non-mall, I'm to hip to eat at a food court, people need to remember that there was a time in your life where you went to the mall.... and you bought stuff..... and you liked it. Maybe you were buying the newest acid wash jeans from Guess, maybe you were hanging out with your friends and drinking Orange Julias, or maybe you were catching the latest Debbie Gibson concert. Point is, Malls are about as American as Baseball. Barton Creek has nice stores, it gets you out of the heat, it has a nice food courts, it's easy to get to, there is plenty of parking, and the stores are higher end. It's the mall dude. It's a great place to watch people. Sit in the food court, have a drink and just observe your surroundings. It's a hoot. I stopped in at Spencer's Gifts. This is a very nice mall. It is clean and well kept and not over run with unaccompanied teens causing trouble. I think that this is the best one in Austin. The mall has a large isle so it don't seem crowded. You are not forced to dodge people like at other malls. The layout is nice and the mall has a beautiful view of downtown. The only complaint I have is that there is the availability of elevators is limited. read more

Well it's a mall. I'm not a big fan of malls. So I guess this review is going downhill from here but let me perk it up a bit. I don't go often because I don't like shopping much along with dealing with crowds. I'm glad they have a Torrid for my wardrobe, Hot Topic for kitsch/cute stuff, a movie theatre for my cinema fix and the Apple store to repair my technology. Still one of the the premier malls in Austin. It's a toss-up between here and The Domain. Here's my take: Both are super-crowded and parking is terrible. Come to Barton Creek if the weather is terrible (too hot or raining!) or go to The Domain if it's really nice outside. Barton doesn't have garage or covered parking though (while the Domain does). It's actually kind of weird if you think about it? TIP: What makes this mall great is the charging stations they have scattered throughout the mall. Barton even provides the cables. My guy buddies were drooling over this girl in a Bebe dress at the xmas party, so I thought I better get me a Bebe dress. Went to Barton Creek Square Mall to look. Scoured the entire mall. Got extremely irritated by the whole vibe: 1. Sales reps in the hallways grabbing at me like hungry zombies and breathing their cigarette breath in my face. 2. The insidious irritation of the dinky-dink piano player at Nordstrom. 3. This one snarky idiot sales girl drove me out of the store: ME: "Can I try on this dress?" HER: "That's not a dress, it's a tunic. ME: "Why isn't it a dress? HER: "Because it's a TUNIC?" ME: "Right, I mean what's the difference?" HER: "It doesn't cover your whole butt." ME: "Well it would cover MY butt... I don't know about yours." All the stores have basically the same over-priced, cheap-feeling, cheesy, butt-ugly clothes (except Forever 21, at least the clothes are sorta cute and PRICED cheap to match the quality, but there was a freakin 2 year wait for the dressing rooms). Never again will I waste the gas driving to this godforsaken shit hole. Instead I will shop downtown or east side and/or shop local (new years resolution): SECRET OKTOBER on South First SOLA on 2005 South Lamar TREASURE CITY THRIFT on East 12th ST. VINCENT DE PAUL on South Congress TOP DRAWER on Burnett CREAM VINTAGE BLUE VELVET SAVERS - north and south WISH on the drag (their $10 sales) those two hoochie stores in the Mueller shopping plaza... Barton Creek Square Mall isn't the only shopping destination in Austin but it's probably the best and most well rounded choice. Barton Creek Square has a well rounded selection of stores, ranging from low end, inexpensive clothing stores to higher end stores you would expect to find at the Domain. You can buy just about anything here due to the large variety of stores and you can do it for reasonable prices. It beats Highland Mall hands down simply because they don't shoot people here or have gang fights. It beats the Domain hands down because it is reasonably priced and the location is more convenient to the Austin metro area. Arboretum is almost extinct now with The Domain being open and retailers moving there so it isn't even a factor any more. If you need to shop and you like mall shopping, this is the best mall around here. All the lame "Keep Austin Weird" types fail to see that this is a MALL, get over it. Keeping "Austin Weird" WON'T keep it profitable or employing people. read more

Dayum! Some reviews are really hard on this particular mall. I thought this was one of the best (indoor) malls that I've seen in Austin. In fact, this may actually be better than North Star Mall in San Antonio. (And, I love North Star Mall. Heck, I've even worked there.) Barton Creek has just about all the stores you want in a mall. Macy's. Dilliard's. Nordstroms. The GAP. And a slew of other popular stores. Plus the mall is so friggin' big that you could actually lose a pound or two just by walking around on both floors. The only thing I don't understand is why is Dillard's divided into 2 stores. You got like the main store on one end. But, if you're looking for the men's department, you gotta walk over to another wing of the mall. *scratching head* read more

Mall is mall is mall. Its a mall. Its like grocery: once you're familiar, its great. BUT BCSM is not someplace that Keeps Austin Weird. On the contrary, it was developed after Circle C was put in and Mopac was extended. Circle C exists directly on top of the aquifer (meaning what you dump into your driveway or put down your sink in Circle C ends up in that wonderfully reviewed Barton Springs, not to mention our drinking water at times) and was in part , something of a catalyst for the organization Save Our Springs. So while it is decent as Malls go, just know: it is so not keeping Austin Weird: local, respecting natural resources, or neighbor-friendly. Head to the Domain if you must do this. Tis safer to show your face at somewhere not built on the aquifer and isn't a "mall". Aside: BCM has one of the best little coffee vendors in Austin. Next time you're there, stop by Meeju's coffee near the Dillard's end of the mall, right in front of the Godiva booth (can you tell my true love is food and not shopping?). read more

This place is like every other generic mall in the country except that the layout is confusing. Maybe I am a little slower in the head than others, but everytime I go here I find myself turned around and trying to figure out if I have been down this wing or that wing. I still do shop here on occasion, but it is always a challenge to locate any of the stores. My second complaint is lame, but I really don't like the carpet on the floors. Anyway just another generic mall. Everyone has been to one before and this one is no different. read more

I am extremely unhappy with this mall. Several weeks ago my daughters foot was pulled into the escalator due to a missing plate! She was thankfully wearing boots and not flip flops or else her foot would have been mangled. We have yet to hear from management and I'm hoping they at least repaired the escalator. She was very traumatized and my son panicked to try and stop the machine. She wasn't able to pull it out so her dad pulled her out of her shoe! Their lack of concern and negligence is terrible and I have no desire to return to this mall. Parents beware when you have your children there, they are not safety conscious. read more

It's a decent place to get all your shopping done. I can swing by the Apple store and get things I need and also head to Macy's and get some clothes. It is clean and most of the stores are quite nice. It doesn't feel too "mally" you could say. Natural sunlight comes in at various spots and there is nice foliage. Nothing like the malls in Houston of Dallas, but nice for Austin for sure. read more

What's better than a well air conditioned, clean, indoor mall? Nothing...nothing I tell ya. Although the stores I prefer to shop at aren't at this mall, I have to give Barton Creek Square Mall props for maintaining a wide selection of stores. The food court area is great for free samples; it's the first place I "shop" when I get there. Oh and don't forget those Auntie Anne's pretzels. And that cheap Japanese chicken teriyaki place that gives you huge portions is the bomb diggity. There's an AMC movie theatre to keep the dads occupied while their crazy teenage daughters are at the gigantic Forever 21. read more

it is really unfortunate circumstance that Lego chose to put the only store in Austin into this culture pit of america. This mall is truly an awful place for anyone above the age of 14. I don't like most malls, but there is something to be said about a place where an average family can beat the texas heat on saturday afternoon and browse around - but this place is just shallow advertising and consumer junk plastered on every sheer inch of space. The 'family' bathroom in the food court doesn't have a fold down baby changing table. So no, not really family friendly unless you plan on feeding your kids junk food and letting infant wallow around in their own poop. the Lego store itself was also a disappointment. Its super small, crowded, jamming techno music and the pick your own brick is a great test for any person's patience. My family actually had to leave the store while I waited in line to purchased a kit not available online. the only thing that stopped me from launching myself face first into the sharp escalator stairs was an old school ICEE at one of the food joints. I managed to find the cheapest item in all of the food court and it was a delicious frozen cherry coke in the old school striped cup. Haven't had one in years. read more

Hey 1999.... your mall is calling, and it wants to come home. Seriously, I felt like I was stepping into a late 90's time warp when I went to Barton Creek Mall. When it comes to mall shopping, I can care less about 98% of the teenager infested stores that clog up the space. The Banana Republic here fell flat... small, not much inventory, blah blah blah. This mall reminds me of Collin Creek mall in Plano, TX. What is Collin Creek Mall? It used to be a popular mall in the 90s' and now it looks kind of abandoned. Barely anybody goes to that mall, there aren't many good stores, it's an old looking mall, not as clean, needs renovating. My friend and I came here and it looked almost like the same layout as Collin Creek and I thought that I might've traveled back to Dallas without me even realizing it. There aren't many good stores, my friend and I came in here for an hour and walked right out. Someone recommended this mall but then he realized that he hasn't been to Austin in a long time since he's graduated... Turns out that he recommended the wrong mall. He decided The Domain in Austin was the newer mall and that we should've checked that out instead. read more

Some very harsh reviews, i don't get why its so bad?! Its not like its trashy or has some weird smells. Its a mall. Theirs nothing that special about it. But if i want to go to shop at some stores and watch a movie afterwards its good. Alot of my friends work there, so thats a plus. Its pretty crowded here on the weekends, and you run into more people than you want. But its not too bad. I don't eat at the foodcourt, just because i don't like having to wait and than have a hard time to find a place to sit, so i can't tell you if the food sucks or not, just that i have never wanted to eat there. I hate malls. I dislike large crowds I do not know in confined spaces. In addition, I hate shopping so I typically go to a single store. So why the good rating? Saturday afternoon, I had taken my iPhone in for a battery change. As I had I had a couple of hours to kill I started walking through the mall, keeping the wall to my right so I would not get lost (I did anyway, several times). The first thing I noticed was the present of security, who didn't just stand around, but actually came up and asked if they could help with locating a store. I also noticed they kept their eyes moving and watched the crowds of people. The next thing I noticed was just how much renovation had been done and that all escalators except 1 were working. It was clean and I enjoyed going in some stores and looking at items. I was to have a big meal that night so I found the upstairs food court and it was not the trashy dump it used to be. I watched the people ordering food and went for the one that had a line. Usually that is a good sign when the others had none. My food was OK, hit the spot, the table was clean and I noticed the frequent cleaning of the area by the staff. Saturday is a busy day at malls and I was dreading going. However, not too bad. Okay, the #1 reason I prefer this mall is that Highland Mall has a seriously scary infestation of birds. See my review on Highland Mall for more information. Otherwise, I love that they have a movie theater in the mall, so you can go, buy a ticket, and browse around a little while you wait for your showtime. They have the typical "mall" stores you expect, which is a plus and a minus, and the atmosphere is pretty much what you would expect as well. Barton Creek... There is something about south Austin that is so much different than North... Im sot sure I could quite put my finger on it, but..oh well. It's a decent mall. Its typical. Nothing fancy, no fancy goo goo stuff like the food court in the Lakeline Mall, yet a step above the Highland Mall for sure! We visit here when Im waiting on hubs to get off work. I think the things we get a kick out of most of all is seeing what new "thing" they have by Sears.. Sometimes it the Bungee Bounce, once it was the rock wall, another time it was some sort of swing, Im not sure what it was, to be honest.. it was a few years ago.. anyhow.. Nothing fancy. Nothing horrible. Its a mall. Fairly busy almost always. Im not in love with the food court, its annoying the way it is laid out. I'll visit when I need to! Wont go out of my for this one! read more

My family's prior overall shopping experience has been great at this mall! However, on Christmas Eve, the Spirit of Christmas, was challenged at the 'North Pole' Santa location! As my family arrived to take pictures ONE HOUR before the advertised closing hours, we were told by an employee that we could NOT get in line to see and take pictures with Santa! To our wonder and dismay, this employee was EXTREMELY resistant to our defense "that the hours were posted UNTIL 6 pm!" I reiterate we were there at 5 pm!They reluctantly allowed us in admonishing us "that we MAY NOT get to see Santa by 6 even though we were in line!" MANY families ( babies, children, teens, adults- beautifully attired in their Christmas outfits )arrived after us and were met with the same response. Security personnel continued to hold to their stand to NOT allow families in even though it was NOT 6'oclock. It was a VERY DISHEARTENING experience for all families affected! IF there was an expectation that 'one could be turned away' if not there, for example, 30 minutes before the closing time, this SHOULD have been advertised. It would have been very helpful to have posted a VERY LARGE sign! I assumed that the beautiful Spirit of Christmas TOUCHED the hearts of someone to allow people to take pictures within a reasonable amount of time before 6 pm. The sad thing is that a number of families gave up after TRYING to REASON with security! So, unlike us, they were unable to experience the GRACIOUS Ho-Ho- Ho of Santa (who by the way was VERY patient and kind)! I hope and pray that this does not happen again!
