it's a great huge mall. Very clean and very nice people there Are friendly. It's during COVID so there's many rules but amazing still. There's a sketcher store. Great massage chairs price starting at 5.00 per 15 mins. There was a huge clearance sale at cotton on and sales in every store. There are exclusive stores as well as the Macy's JCPenney and Dillards and Nordstrom. Due to covid some stores and kiosk chose to remain closed however there was a good amount of stores available. read more

Mikayla and Victoria were wonderful. Got my nose pierced and the line was long due to the Thanksgiving holidays. But they were nice and hospitable, the most gracious ppl I met in ATX my entire visit!!! Thank you. The customer service was good and btw my nose ring came out good too. Way to go team. Is it the best mall in the world? Nope! But I'd say it's one of the better ones in Austin, and only 10-15 minutes from Downtown. This is a great mall. They have everything you could need. Food, electronics, James Avery Jewelry, clothes! The hours are great 10-9 M-S and Sunday's 11-7pm. The maintenance people are great too. Always on top of cleanup and even wipe down the seating area. My only complaint is one that is not even the malls fault but there are always birds that get into the mall somehow and hang out in the food court area. It worries me that they might drop something!! This mall is just about as bland as my taste in clothing. Besides the three colors I wear being white, black, and gray, this mall suffers severely. Before I begin an in depth review which I'm writing for absolutely no reason, I wanted to point out that this mall has been an outlet for my boredom for years. When in doubt, hit the Barton creek mall. It's the perfect place to spot middle school tweens craving a Starbucks beverage as well as stores going out of business weekly probably due to the cost of rent or the fact that we really don't need a store dedicated to pens. Speaking of stores we don't need, I was in hysteria laughing at the fact that we have a store for I believe lamps or maybe stained glass (I personally have no intention from going in there, and I'm not too sure anyone else would know either because I've never actually seen a person in one of those stores besides an employee probably stalking their high school lover on Facebook) In addition, the amount of kiosks with evil pyramid schemes is unreal. The fact that the kiosks stores include one for squishies, one for cheese and meat, as well as bizarre wooden figures is actually very comical. Of course we have our few, but decent stores being Lululemon, Nordstrom, Gap, Old Navy, Pac Sun, and maybe a couple others. This partially covers up the many, many flaws of this mall. However, as a self proclaimed shopaholic, (I know, my bland fashion sense is great) even this mall lets me down. Looking for a decent black dress for your pet hamsters funeral? Yeah you won't find that here Looking for a delicious meal? Best you'll get is a Panda Express which tastes like the seat of a school bus. Looking for a place to let you down? BINGO! Will I come here again? Yes, mostly because this is the only place near me to find clothes or because what high school girl doesn't want to shop and find absolutely nothing? I took my family shopping on Sunday afternoon. We parked and began our shopping at Nordstrom. We spent several hours and hundreds of dollars in the mall. We even stopped and had lunch. Obviously, we were satisfied spending our money and time. At least until we discovered that our vehicle had been burgled while we were shopping. I called the office and was directed to call security. I spoke to the office and gave them our location near Nordstrom's and even used their parking lot signs. We waited about 15 minutes until i finally saw the guard drove by without stopping. I used the alert horn to finally get their attention. The guard informed me that she had been given a different location. I was disappointed to find that the only security they have in the parking lot is for the store entrances. There are no cameras monitoring the customers entering or exiting the mall or the vehicles on the lot. In the time I was at Barton Creek Square, nearly $500 worth of body damage was done in broad daylight on Sunday between 2pm and 5pm. Hundreds of dollars in items where stolen from my vehicle. The worst part though was how violated and hurt. The camera that was stolen had hundreds of memories and a precious gift was also stolen for seeming no reason. I see why box stores are seeing the big declines as online alternatives offer better pricing and safety than brink and mortar stores. read more

Shut the f*ck up! What serious Yelper in their right mind would give a thirty-year-old mall five stars? This guy. Seriously, whatcha gonna do, call the Yelp police? Get over it. Here's the thing: I couldn't care less about the stores or food court here, and if you want an even older mall with double the charm & cachet, think Dallas NorthPark. But I come to Barton Creek Mall all the time, because it's the best indoor walking track in Austin. Simple as that. And that's as good as it gets. If the concourse at Lakeline Mall is like a narrow drag strip raceway for mall walkers, Barton Creek is the Indy 500, a giant half-mile circle with nooks and crannies wide enough to maneuver around these pesky people shopping here. Incidentally, mall walkers do laps in counterclockwise circuits, and I always warm up with at least two on the second-level carpeting, and then downstairs to the first floor tile, which is five-degrees cooler, faster, and far less people - because most of them are still upstairs eating food court goo. Saturdays are always crowded - like, duh - but every other day here is no big deal. If you need a little more to help rationalize Barton Creek Mall as a five-star experience, how about this: You get a cool blue tote bag with every four check-ins on Foursquare, and Nordstrom's Café Bistro is still a hidden gem. No seriously, cool people know this, let's keep it to ourselves. Okay, one more - those odd cult-like kiosk people stop pestering you once you're tagged as a walker. That's worth a star right there. And finally, if you haven't read my "Hipster's Guide to Mall Walking" yet, let me reiterate two points: Don't overtake and pass some walker ahead of you - all the regulars have their own pace, and you don't want to be known as "that newbie dick." Just cut across to the other side, you'll be ahead of them, and pick it up from there - it'll be seen and appreciated. And for the love of God, never wear shorts, ear buds, or anything plaid - the trick to being on Planet Mall Walker is not drawing attention to yourself. Besides, if you had the legs to wear shorts in the first place, you'd have a fancy gym membership, and not be doing your cardio for free. Cheap bastard. See you around the mall. read more

Buying tires and mattress sets at Monkey Ward, finding that special joystick at Kay-Bee Toys, many happy battery replacements at Sears Automotive, shopping Jacques C Penne on all those tax holiday weekends, the crazy stupid $3 deal I got on pink oxford button-downs at Old Navy (and then I realized why). Nothing can quite compare to the sheer joy of a quiet meal at Chelsea Street Pub and that mountain of nachos...the funked up dishes at Olga's Kitchen...that bottle of wine at Nordstrom's Bistro. Things Remembered, Spencer Gifts, AMC Theaters, Glamour Shots, oh the list never ends. Thank you Simon for all the joy you've brought into my life so far and for all the joys yet to come. read more

Comparing Barton Creek to The Domain is like comparing Apples to Oranges. They are not the same and never will be. Barton Creek caters to the middle class suburban family. While the Domain caters more to your middle upper class families. Both have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of stores and parking. There are days when I want/need to get something from Sears or JCPenny's. Unfortunately, the Domain doesn't have those stores. Also, Nordstrom is located here which is surprising considering the clientele. I shop Nordstrom often. So guess what? On those day, the majority of my shopping is done at Barton Creek. Now what's odd to me is how Dillard's and Macy's have anchors stores for both men and women. So if you're shopping with your boyfriend or girlfriend. You can't shop within the same store. I don't understand this concept and it can be an inconvenience. The Cheesecake Factory is coming soon. So this is an added plus for those who shop here. The mall also has an AMC theater, California Pizza Kitchen, Pink Berry and a decent food court. I think people like to trash Barton Creek for no reason. This is one of the better malls in Austin and is still thriving despite The Domain being right up the road. read more

Cool Mall. Typical stores, some high end, some not. They have a Coach, Cheesecake Factory, Body Shop and a food court. (stand-outs, haha!) I really enjoyed the Yankee candle store and hubby loved the Vans store. It was clean and surprisingly, not decorated for X-mas yet on Oct 23/15. We enjoyed our time here, taking shelter from the rain storm and making the best out of the F1 practice at the track being cancelled .Nothing like a little retail therapy at affordable prices. I think hubby mentioned there is a movie theater here too. The one annoying thing is the pushiness of the center kiosk people at the Mall pushing their products. NO! Quit chasing us! :) read more

This mall has really stepped up its game! Welcome Cheesecake Factory, and other new things, but I really like the Cheesecake Factory. The mall seems cleaner, more up to date, and more lively since the remodel! I enjoy coming here now! Last year and prior, the mall felt like it was nearing its last leg. I grew up in Shreveport, LA, where two malls not only closed over the drawn-out death of 3 years, but also transformed themselves into a compound of churches! I'm pleased to say that I no longer feel this way about Barton Creek Square! It's magnificent. I do, however, wish they'd keep up with their bathrooms. The doors are already breaking. The only problem is that Macy's and Sears have this awful mold stench. Is anyone else getting that? Has that been fixed? After re-reading this, I feel I should knock the stars down to 4, but I really like BCS, so I say 5 stars!! read more

A mall full of "look at my new outfit/shoes/hairstyle that looks just like everyone else's" and teenagers that have been dropped off by parents who have no real idea what it is their kids are doing or how they act when they aren't around. Let me clue you in here mom & dad: they act ridiculous and annoying, for the most part, as I'm sure most due when we're not around... which is why the mall is not an appropriate babysitter. *just sayin read more

On the last day of our trip to Austin, my family spent a couple hours at the Barton Creek Square Mall. We needed to kill some time in an air-conditioned space after we checked out of our hotel, and the mall suited our purposes. This mall reminded me of some of the big malls I used to visit in the '90s, kind of old and shabby on the outside without any nods to luxury shopping. There was a giant JC Penney and a giant Sears, and an abundance of clothing stores that a cooler version of my high school self might have loved. We spent our time in a couple of sporting goods shops where my brother bought a few jerseys, as well as a great toy store and an alcove filled with Texas paraphernalia. We stopped into the Brookstone, but the massage chairs warned us to see an employee before operating. Foiled. I'm not much of a shopper these days, but I can appreciate the buzz of socializing and commerce inherent in the American mall. Barton Creek was fine, but I got the sense that it was outdated and just not all that nice. Maybe I'm just old. At one point, we were tired and sat down on some of the couches on the ground floor, and the teenage couple across from us seemed to be having a blast. The girl sat in the boy's lap, and they looked intent on necking away the afternoon. I guess that's one way to enjoy an air-conditioned mall, but since I'm old and crotchety, that advantage doesn't really do much for me. read more

I am not a mall rat, never have been, and Barton Creek reinforces my dislike for the crowds, and shopping in general. Firstly, unless you know the area, there aren't signs, or anything leading you to Barton Creek Mall off the highway. Once found, and going around the perimeter of the mall, I notice the anchor stores, Nordstrom, Dillard's, Sears. Okay, but not what I'm looking for. Thank you to whomever placed the mall directory at different points of the mall so we could locate the LEGO store, to get in, browse, and be on our way. As mentioned by previous reviewers, the kiosks (especially the cellular guys), are ones to walk away from. There's a group in front of the LEGO store, that I noticed not really hounding shoppers, but definitely scoping out the crowd. Thankfully we didn't have to walk the entire mall to find what we were looking for. read more

In high crime societies, the middle class feel more comfortable wandering around in a building where security guards will keep slum residents, beggars and petty criminals off of the premises. South American malls are a bourgeois soap bubble of security - and as a result they have some fine restaurants. We all know that the US is not like that. Barton Creek Square Mall, however, is a painful reminder of how much worse American malls are - and how bad Austin malls are relative to American malls. The Simon Property Group who runs the joint is putting no money into maintenance - making the place sink to the low level of the old Highland Mall. Most of the escalators don't work. The ventiliation system is weak - giving the mall a stale movie popcorn smell when you enter. The closed circuit TV featuring ads to buy buy buy from stores on Simon properties- has neither sound nor subtitles. You see a talking head mouthing silent words with no subtitles - which is certainly not giving me the urge to shop. The internet does not work (but then Simon wants you shopping rather than surfing so I guess this is probably okay.) The food mall is pretty sad. A low number of food places relative to the non-food stores on the property - meaning long lines. The best establishment is Panda Express - which say what you will puts out reliable fast food that is pleasant enough due to the high sugar content. The other places are far worse. A McDonalds would be a quantum leap forward given the places they actually have offering food. I was here during the Xmas rush and the place was packed. So I doubt Simon will be changing anything soon. But then I doubt I would be back to see any changes if Simon were to decide to upgrade the place. read more

Came here to look for something very specific. Was blown away by the variety of stores and their offerings. Easy to park. Multiple entrances. Clean bathrooms. Present security. Restaurants, a movie theatre, large scale stores with plenty of offerings. It's a great place to window shop or break the bank. read more

This is your average suburban mall built in the 1990s. The mall seems to be fairly well maintained despite its obvious age. It features the typical selection of stores. Macy's, Nordstrom, Sears (perhaps not much longer since they filed for bankruptcy), anchor the mall. Hot topic, Gap, Victoria's Secret, etc are scattered throughout. There's really not much to say. If you've been to one of these malls, you've been to pretty much all. Nothing special about this one. read more

I really like this mall. They have such a great variety of stores, from the Lego store to Cache... it's just wonderful! There is lots of parking space, lots of stores and lots of people. There is a movie theater in the front part of the mall. I could seriously say you could probably buy almost anything at this mall! This is my favorite mall in Austin! They even have a sushi "restaurant"... now that is cool! read more

Probably everything in the book has been written about this mall but all I can say is that it is a definite eye candy after taking refuge and running for my life from Highland Mall. There's no lack of available shopping in the greater Austin area. While I don't think there's an Austin mall that could qualify as "outstanding", if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Barton Creek Square Mall. Barton offers the best blend of high-end and affordable. It's easy to drop $25 (Aeropostale, Perfumania) or $1025 (Armani Exchange, Coach). There are over 150 stores, including your big-name departments (Dillard's, Nordstrom, JCPenney) and your harder-to-find specialty stores (Apple Store, Crabtree & Evelyn, K9 Lives). In other words, Barton is the type of mall where almost anyone can comfortably shop. In addition to retail, Barton's got food, film and a variety of services for everyday life. The developers were smart here...the Barton site is more accurately a mixed-use facility. While your food court options are typical (Chick-Fil-A, Quizno's, Side Wok Cafe, Cinnabon), there's a decent Mexican food restaurant, Abuelo's, that sits detached from the mall. There's also a California Pizza Kitchen (not bad) and the obligatory Nordstrom Cafe (expensive, but good). Aside from food, you've got the 14-screen theater (also detached) and a vast array of retail necessities. Yeah, yeah, I know you're thinking, "But every mall has that..." Fair enough. But my argument would be that every mall has a FEW services. Barton's well-equipped to handle most everything - optical/eyewear, Miracle Ear (in Sear's), Compass Bank, hair and nail salons, a travel agency, dentists, a tailor, a jewelry repair shop, photography studio, and a day spa). Whew. Barton Creek Square Mall is accessible from Mopac or Capital of Texas Highway and has surprisingly picturesque views of the city. Unfortunately, there's no signage from the highway, which makes it tricky. Head southbound on Mopac and take the Barton Skyway exit. Keep to the right. From 360 South, keep to the left. Barton's the Best (at least in Austin). read more

The food court is a tad sketchy, typically packed to the rims with people who do not hold hygine and sanitation as a priority. I was here just last week doing some last minute Christmas shopping and the amount of people allowed into the department stores was sickening. Not mention the amount of people in the mall not wearing their masks correctly. Walked in and couldn't believe how few people were socially distancing or wearing masks. Think I mean customers? I do but was also mortified to see employees (mainly at the kiosks) eschewing masks. This place runs the risk of being a COVID transmission hotspot without some kind of increased enforcement of masks. read more

This is the closest mall in Austin to me (SW Austin) and I've been coming here since the mid-80s -- in fact, I remember when its construction was controversial because of watershed pollution concerns, and some people advocated a boycott. How long ago and Flower Power that notion seems! Anyway, so now the wheel has turned and people are still complaining, only about more batty or self-satisfied concerns. I'm glad Sears is still here; I rely on them for tools, appliances, certain everyday clothing -- this is also where I park and enter the mall from, it's a handy and convenient parking location. I would be unhappy to see this store close. That said, I do see why Sears is having problems. The last couple of visits, they had not restocked shelves yet of common clothing items I looked for, and I couldn't find more than ONE check-out register open on either floor. I waited in line longer to check out than I spent finding my purchases. I will move on to Penny's next time I see this situation. Sears needs to staff and stock its store adequately if it wants to stay competitive. The mall needs to keep its maps/directories up to date. My last visit, two of the three stores I wanted to find were either not on the map/directory or the wrong location was given. Apple Store was listed in different places on two different maps. Anatolian Breezes was not listed at all! How can customers find a store if the mall directories aren't correct? read more

This is an old school mall from the 1980s but has been updated through the years and currently a Simon mall. It is the best indoor mall in Austin and could get better if Sears was demolished and replaced by something higher end. The best stores are on the leg from the center of the mall to Nordstrom. But some of the popular stores like Apple have been strategically placed throughout the mall. The food court is small noticed kept clean. Two restaurants are in the mall and another outside. It sits on a hillside with perfect views of downtown Austin but can't enjoy it being inside. Would be nice if Simon would redevelop this property to something similar to the Domain and build a tower with restaurant to enjoy the great views of Austin. Only drawbacks include no Tommy Bahama, better restaurants, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Simon also need to follow Disney Springs to not allow stores to post Sale (30, 50, 70% off) signs from view of outside store which makes the mall look low class. Also watch out exiting the mall onto Loop 360 where many try to beat the light and many traffic accidents occur here and have seen one with many close calls. I suggest parking near Nordstrom where security seems to better here versus parking next to JCPenny. From shopping at the new Nordstrom at Domain Northside this Nordstrom looks outdated and hopefully get updated. Otherwise it is a great place to shop and buy authentic apparel versus shopping at the outlet malls and still find great deals. read more
