This is an update from my experiences in years past at Bartini. It USED to be a great for Happy Hour. The prices are still the same, but the quality has gone down. Way, way down. A few months ago I had noticed that the fodue no longer came in all fancied and on a candlelit tray to keep it warm. The bread even has gone downhill. Again, in visiting this last weekend it was the same case. I also ordered the Crab Cakes and Salmon Mousse. - Did this come from Trader Joe's next door!? It seriously tasted like it did. $4 for a couple mini and FRIED crab cakes that didn't even taste like crab. The mousse was awful. The drinks even don't taste half as great as they used to and are made more cheaply I'd say. It's really too bad. This place was one of my fave spots. But the food is downright horrible and cheap! Bartini is a great little place for Happy Hour in the Alphabet District. Service was prompt and our waitress was super friendly. We had a table for the four of us and we decided to share a few items: Ahi Tuna Sliders - Good amount of Ahi Tuna to bun ratio. I loved the pickled ginger in the sliders. Delicious and satisfying. Mashed Potato Marini - Mashed potatoes with brie and blue cheese sprinkled on top. Mixed them into the potato and it was gooey and comforting. Salmon Mousse - Was average. It tasted like Philidelphia salmon cream cheese. Crab and artichoke dip - creamy and a great compliment to our drinks. Pork Tacos - This was my favorite item. The pork was flavorful and the lime really set off the lettuce and sauce within the soft tortilla taco too. Bartini has been on my list of must check out happy hours for a long time. I finally made it over there for my first time last Friday and this will definitely not be my last visit. I was absolutely blown away by the awesomeness of their happy hour! All the martinis are half priced and they have a great selection of happy hour food as well. Our server was really attentive and even nice enough to swing by our table right before happy hour was up to see if we wanted to get in on one last 1/2 priced happy hour drink (duh!). She was great at providing recommendations to our group and had a great sense of humor too! They have quite a few tables outside for enjoying martinis in the sun, (when weather permits). I LOVE bartini, though I typically only frequent during their happy hour. I am from California, but visit every year since my best friend lives in PDX. This is a must stop every time, and I even had some of my bachelorette party here back in September 2019. Staff are always so helpful and friendly, and the food is always great. Loved the cajun tots and the cute little thing of cheese fondue. I've been here quite a few times before and the drinks have been consistently delicious. My first visit to Bartini echoed the experience of other reviewers. I stood in the doorway ignored and unsure what to do. Once I finally got someone's attention, I was directed to enter my name into the strange program on the iPad hidden in the corner. On my second visit, this weekend, I knew what to do. We were the only ones on the list, but we stepped right outside to be mindful of the limited space inside. We then watched a party walk in after us and get immediately seated. This was a very frustrating experience given my prior visit. Please overhaul this system. Once we finally got seated at one of the several empty tables, we were very disappointed by the drinks. Perhaps I ordered better last time, but my drink from the "clean & serene" section was aggressively sweet. Likewise, everyone in my party (all big cocktail drinkers) felt the drinks were overly sweet and in need of some refinement. Now, I shouldn't complain too much because this place offers a great value for Portland. But I just felt that several simple but important things were lacking. They have happy hour every day - check on their website for the exact times. Drinks are $4.50 during HH and the Bird of Paradise is my favorite! Not too strong and just the right amount of sweetness. The food is good as well. It is a part of the Fondue restaurant next door so of course you should order some fondue! They have a good array of choices. We arrived on Friday around 4:30 (happy hour starts at 4) and had to wait almost 30-45 mins to be seated since it was full. Our friend knew the bartender so we were able to sip on drinks while waiting. Once we got seated, we ordered fondue, calamari and the taco platter. While we were eating, the waitress noticed we still had fondue but no bread and brought some out for us, no charge! I would definitely recommend coming here! read more

Portions are small, food takes forever to get to the table, even simple drinks took forever, disrespectful/unkind staff There were two workers, in particular, that were extremely disrespectful to me and the friend I was with at the time. And I pulled it out of my pocket, put it in both hands which was me showing I was about to put it on (as someone does as they are about to put on a mask) Even though I had the mask in my hand and told her I'd put it on, she began to raise her voice even louder, in front of the whole restaurant. I asked her to remember where she is because I was a *PAYING* customer and i had no intention of refusing any rules put in place during covid, and most importantly I requested she stop speaking to me. Her response was only to raise her voice even louder, give me her meanest eyes (I guess haha) and to inform me that she was going to close my tab, even though during our interaction I told her I had already paid and left a tip. I don't know how to communicate how awful her tone was but I very much felt attacked and tried to just move on and figured we would leave soon anyway. And we would all just forget it even happened... When I got back to my seat, I couldn't even sit down. A bouncer walked up and told me I had to leave (btw I was wearing a mask at this point), he told me I refused to wear a mask and had to leave. When I told him I didn't refuse to do anything and I had a mask in my pocket, he grabbed me by the neck and dragged me out of the restaurant and proceeded to follow me down Glisan telling me it was HIS bar and the street was HIS bar's street. Whatever that was supposed to mean. I honestly don't have words for the interaction, it was beyond disrespectful. I demand an apology from the establishment and a personal apology from the waitress who LIED to the bouncer to get me kicked out. The bouncer was very much wrong for what he did, but he was just doing his job so I understand the miscommunication resulted in his very poor handle of the situation. But I was villanized to prove a point despite my having been a PAYING customer in their establishment. I will never forget how I was treated here and every chance I get, I'm gonna tell people this story so they know to NEVER go back to this restaurant. My friend informed me that after I was dragged out by my neck, customers in the restaurant were very upset. They had seen me having a peaceful night, as a paying customer, they watched me walk in with a mask and put it in my pocket. I wish I got that lady's name because she deserves to be fired. There is no excuse for dehumanizing anyone let alone a customer. And I think it goes without saying, if I had REFUSED to wear a mask. This would be an entirely different conversation. Also how could I have been seated if I didn't have a mask in the first place or refused to wear one? My last question to the staff and in particular that lady who treated me so poorly. Is it really so wild to imagine that someone who has ate a meal, with no mask on, would get up and go to the bathroom without a mask? I wasn't wearing a mask at the table and I forgot to put it on. It's not a big deal, especially when I had no issue putting my mask on... I'm expecting some sort of response from this review. And if not, it will only further prove my point why the handling of customers at this restaurant is disgraceful to high quality bars and customer serving establishments that DONT assault their customers in the name of protecting other paying customers. This is such an awesome place to take friends who are visit from out of town. That's exactly what I did, and it was huge hit! I admired how extensive their cocktail menu is. It allowed for each of my friends to find their own unique cocktail and created a fun tasting/sharing experience for us all. Girls night dream! Date night variety mixed with little entrees and MARTINIS. For sure go during Happy hour (at least if you can fit in) they dont take reservations, and they dont seat you until your whole party is there. But they have amazing martinis ranging from beautiful Violet Martinis to delicious dessert versions as well. They have other drinks as well- but.. its Bartini. I went here with a group and we all got different foods and split everything. All of their food is sooo good! And its a good 1-2 person split snack style for most things but also have full meals as well. I really enjoyed the tacos, fondue and tots! Bartini used to be our favorite restaurant. We have driven over an hour to eat here several times. After our last visit we will not be back. When we first sat down we looked at our water glasses and they had lipstick marks on them and were clearly dirty. We informed the waitress and without saying anything just took them and gave us new ones. We ordered the cheddar fondue and when it arrived it was grainy and chunky. Our waitress never came back to check on us so we only ate a couple bites and waited. Once the check arrived we let her know that is was grainy and not made correctly. No apology or comment from her. She just walked away. My partner went over to her and let her know again that the food was incorrect and that's when the waitress got visibly and audibly angry. She raised her voice at my partner about how they were busy. The bartender had to step in because the waitress had become so escalated. I was across the restaurant and could hear her. We have been here a few times for happy hour where we can get $9 fondue and $5 cocktails. They also have small plates for between $4-8 during happy hour. I don't think I would come here outside of happy hour though. The cocktails actually aren't bad - they have tons of choices (like a Cheesecake Factory menu!) and the pours aren't too weak. I just don't give 5 stars because the decor and vibe here is so....tacky. I swear they play club hits from 2007-2012 only. I've been to Bartini a handful of times & always rave & rant about it to friends. Had friends visiting for 4th of July weekend & suggested Bartini for HH. Won't be coming back. Upon arriving no one greets you at all, even if they aren't busy and they see you standing there they will not come check in with you. Found out we had to check in on an IPad system after we were rudely told there was a sign stating so (very small sign btw). We waited an hour and then we're told to sit after checking in again. Our waiter didn't introduce himself or really acknowledge us at all. He acted like we were such an inconvenience and made rude snarky comments. We had quite a large order and after decided we weren't going to tip, we were provided such shitty and rude service. When we left, the waiter physically chased after us and told us we "stiffed him" and was shit talking us because of the lack of tip. Never in my life have I never left a tip and honestly I try to be mindful of COVID and everyone's situation but this waiter running after us did nothing but prove our point. We won't ever be coming back and I definitely won't be recommending Bartini anymore. One staff member by the name of Mitch was awesome btw. I read an article somewhere about the douche-ification of NW 21st. My reaction was, "Wait, hasn't NW 21st ALWAYS been full of douchebags?" Well, as it turns out, the author was referring to a very specific kind of douchebag. The kind of douchebag that frequents places like Bartini. Previously, this part of Portland was full of yuppies with facelifts, tiny dogs, giant sunglasses and Benzos. Now, it's full of frat boys with popped collars and sorority girls with hair extensions. Same make, different model. The two sub-species co-habitate with drunken unease, the former getting shitfaced on wine, the latter getting shitfaced on sugar-rimmed choco-pom-apple-cherry-yum-tinis. Bartini, being located in the epicenter of this glorious amalgam of douchebaggery, was full of both of the aforementioned irritating archetypes. From the radio-edited dubstep pulsing through the speakers, the waitress' skimpy outfits and the creepy one-way glass in the back, I'd assume they're actively marketing to the younger douchebag demographic. All that aside, the place wasn't half-bad. I went on a Saturday night with a crapload of lady friends. We were able to commandeer the back couch area without any struggle, and the table service was swift and friendly. I had a classic gin martini, which was, unexpectedly, made very well. My lady friend had a frou frou "martini," which tasted exactly like a frou frou martini should - which is to say, not like a martini at all. The place, like NW 21st, isn't really my bag. But one can only deduct so many stars for atmosphere and personality clash, particularly when the bartender can make a decent cocktail. So three stars for you, Bartini. Oh my $4.50 martinis during HH which happens to be all day Sun and Mon which is why we hit it after work on Monday. The place is very crowded for the all night HH. The bartender was on and super sweet when I asked for the most refreshing martini given the hot weather. He suggested the HBM, which was an herabal cucumber lemon. Love, love, love their happy hour! Where else offers such a large array of martinis?? I'm not a huge fan of alcohol, but the is place makes it pretty hard to not like. I would highly recommend the creme brûlée martini. It's a fun place to go with your girl friends to kick back. I'd definitely consider having my birthday here. It's nice that you can grab some nice fondue as well. If you're having trouble narrowing down a drink, don't hesitate to ask for recommendations. read more
