The happy hour food is no afterthought either. The plates are genuinely great, the kind of thing you'd happily order at full price, and they go perfectly with a cold martini. Easy to make a whole evening out of it without thinking too hard about it. The room is a big part of the draw too. Tons of places to sit, comfortable and lived in, and welcoming in a way that makes you want to settle in and stay a while. Never feels like they're rushing you out, even when it's busy. I get that they are working with constraints but a better smaller sandwich would have made me happier even if they sold it as a slider instead. The bun to meat ratio was to totally off. Service was alright. The table was a bit sticky. It was busy. Understandably, things took time. The bar is cute and tiny with energetic music playing and friendly bartenders. It is a bit hard to carry a conversation here so you really have to be in close quarters with the other person. The drink menu has many awesome rum drink choices and they do have a 4-7 pm weekday happy hour. Drink prices are on par with other bars that serve cocktails and on average about $15. They have food and snacks, which I did not get but looked like a decent option. They also have a small outside seating area. It was a great vibe and I notice a wide age group there. I asked the bartender how long they've been around and they said 15 years. I can't believe I haven't been here before. That do charge a 3% credit card fee so cash is king. I would definitely like to come back and try some of their other rum drinks. It does feel like they might be a little too heavy handed in the ice but the drinks are delicious and you can taste the rum in a good way.

Back then, there was an amazing business in here called The Cardinal Room (?). I loved it, they had a romantic cozy ambiance and incredible chicken sandwiches. While the food is gone, the unique, romantic ambience is back and the drinks here are next level. It's a cocktail bar that has amazingly crafted drinks but ZERO pretension about them. In fact, the service here is incredible. Friendly, fun, and frequent. They were very good at just making random creations based solely on flavors you like. But even if you are ordering on-menu, there is something here for everyone and none of the drinks are boring. The moment you step inside, it feels like you've been transported somewhere tropical! If it is daytime outside, you wouldn't be able to tell inside of Hale Pele. Between the thunderstorm effects, flickering lights, bamboo accents, and cocktails literally arriving on fire, the whole experience feels immersive! Once you walk in and shut the door behind you, it's almost a given that you'll forget the time of day because the entire place is windowless. Another cool feature if you ask me. I have to say when looking around I kept contemplating the fact that someone walked in here and said "yeah, this will make a great tiki lounge". Regardless, they were right!
