I'm not sure why the bad reviews. OK, they retail and sucks is very poor options and empty shelves like every other pharmacy acquired by CVS , but I have no complaints in regards to Pharmacy. Since I've been going to this pharmacy for myself and frequently with my elderly MIL for prescriptions, vaccinations, etc the staff is very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and work very efficiently. They often also have medication's that are backorder at Safeway. In comparison to the alternative in the same shopping area, this Pharmacy stuff is outstanding. read more

Was denied service based on my appearance. Few weeks ago I went in to get shooters for my college graduation party, fat white guy at the front looked me up and down and said "I'm not serving you". Mind you, he hasn't even looked at my ID, just my appearance and shut me down. I have piercings, tattoos, etc. I was wearing pink pajamas, so I'm not sure if that somehow offended or triggered him. Since Rite Aid took over, Bartells is just not the same... They no longer carry the fun and terrific array of gifts I always loved shopping for. Several products I have bought from them for years are no longer available either. The Pharmacy takes a long time to get things ready. They used to carry the best, large selection of Xmas cards... I loved going in to peruse all the choices and pick out my cards for the year. Went in this week and they had only a tiny section of cards, and they were awful. This is my "normal" pharmacy, which works OK if the doctor's office forwards the prescription. It's never on time, but I've learned to add several hours to when they say it will be ready for pickup. But don't bother using their scheduling system for flu shots or any other immunization. Made an appointment for a flu shot online. I picked the first available slot, which was over a week out. When I arrived, "Oh, I don't see your appointment." And that was it. No offer to fit me in, no offer to reschedule it, no explanation why their system lost my appointment. If I could rate the Bartell's Pharmacy in Newcastle with ZERO stars, I would. Since Rite Aid took over, the pharmacy staff has been in constant flux and they cannot seem to attract knowledgeable staff, let alone anyone with an interest in customer service. I recently had two prescriptions called in. I only needed one. I told the tech that I didn't need the other. The pharmacist (British accent) came over and I told her I didn't need the xxx prescription, only the yyy prescription. She CANCELLED/DELETED the prescription I needed! When I told her she had deleted the one I actually needed she said, "Oh well, I can't undo it. You will need to call your doctor." Where is the accountability? She could have cared less about the inconvenience this caused the customer. The saddest part about writing this review is that Rite Aid probably never reads these, and wouldn't care that the beloved Bartells has gone down hill. Pharmacy can't get it together! Worst communication ever. They will waste your time going there to pick up prescriptions they can't even fill and even tell you it's ready for pick up. Bartells used to be Amazing. It's gone downhill to a level I don't see coming back from. It's sad but the Safeway next door is 100 times better and have it together. I have been going to this location for over 4 years and everyone is amazing. Always friendly always helpful. There have been some Rite Aid acquisition hiccups for the pharmacy that have made things worse on them and the customer but the employees keep smiling and keep helping us thru it all. I am happy that even though Rite Aid purchased Bartell Drugs this location has kept that warm and friendly family feeling Bartells has always had. read more

ZERO STARS The Newcastle Bartell Drugs pharmacy is the absolute worst experience ever. All of the pharmacists who used to work here are all gone. After 15 years of monthly prescriptions here I've moved all but two of our families prescriptions to mail delivery costing them thousands every month. I still have to go once a month for a prescription that can't be mailed, they NEVER have my prescription right. I've been given someone else's prescriptions three times since ownership changed to Rite Aid and one time I was fully checked out and left with it even after entering my bday which shouldn't have matched. The computer has notes and they still get it wrong. The chaos, poor communication, condescending attitude and downright mishandling of medication and prescriptions have ruined this pharmacy. There is never an apology for mistakes they make every single visit. I wouldn't be surprised if they get reported to whomever the authority is for pharmacies and get shut down for the major mistakes made with medications. The entire staff should be replaced. read more

So hit or miss with staff... Everyone who works here is either the 1. most lovely friendly person, eager to help you. Or 2. The most terse, frustrating, disrespectful staff member you've ever met at the airport. That's all I can equate it to. I have been a customer of this branch's pharmacy for a few years now. They have had some really great staff. But I noticed that the new ones particularly a girl named Diana, have very poor customer service skills. In fact, I find this Diana very rude every time. She appears to have a serious attitude problem by the way she talks to customers. I hope the pharmacy re-assigns her to other non-customer facing tasks. read more

I really like this Bartell's. I used to walk here all of the time when I lived right behind it. Their shelves are always well stocked and all of the products are perfectly lined up. It's crazy - Seriously OCD material. Not complaining though. It's a nice change of pace for a drug store, but their prices are a _bit_ more than, say, Target. But, a smaller business needs to do something in order to keep up with its large corporate competition. It's nice to help support the local drug store though. read more

I am not a Bartell's Fan to start off with so go into this review knowing that! I think this particular Bartell's is cleaner than most, decently stocked with the same big retailer prices as the rest of them. I, however, do not like the lay out of the store or how orange and dingy the lighting makes the place look. It doesn't really motivate me to shop there, but maybe that's a good thing for me in the long run... :) The pharmacy is nice enough - fast, conveinent, cheap... And while I wait I go and have an ice cream cone at Baskin Robbins! If you can wait and find a Pharmaca - go there, but if not this will do in a pinch! read more

The Pharmacy Department is 5 star. I have expensive eye meds and they have gone out of their way to help me with using Good RX coupons to help me get the lowest price. They also are friendly, personal and knowledgeable. They have great follow through and call back to answer questions. After having experience with several other pharmacies prefer Bartells on Coal Creek Parkway. I feel I can count on them. The pharmacists are so professional, reliable and seem to care. read more

I love this location. I have never used the pharmacy so I can't review that. It's close to my work so I pop in quiet often at lunch to grab stuff. Always clean, well stocked and plenty of employees. If there are more than 2 people in line, they call for another cashier right away. I appreciate that since most of the time I am on lunch and need to get in and out. Employees are friendly but honestly sometimes I feel like they are watching me like I am up to no good. Not the case, sometimes I just like to look around. That can be annoying. read more

Every time I have gone into this Bartell's I have been acknowledged with a pleasant greeting and a smile from the store employees. I love the store itself, the store staff are wonderful, but the pharmacy... STAY AWAY! The pharmacy used to be great, even less then six months ago, but now... it is the gates of hell. You would call in a script, the pharmacy would great you on the phone, look up your needs, and give you an honest wait time, and be very pleasant and professional. NOT ANYMORE! They are nasty, rude, unhelpful, and down-right demeaning. The last two times I called in I was hassled. E.g., I get the same scripts every month (and for some reason I cannot auto-fill, when I ask, I get shooed away). Today I was asked to name the scripts instead of just looking up what was ready to fill (that is how it is normally done). When I questioned why I had to tell her every script, I was told "I had so many scripts"...which made me feel terrible as I must be a legend being alive with "so many scripts", and yes the same "so many scripts" I was calling to refill. So when I stated the scripts, one was missing. So instead of Bartell's looking at what might be missing, I had to state each one again...and they the lady tells me "oh, that is the one you missed."... NO, THAT IS THE ONE YOU MISSED! How about some CUSTOMER SERVICE. The last time I called in I was told it would be 4 hours to fill from when I called (okay a bit weird, but maybe a fluke). Amazingly it was the same today, exactly 4 hours from when I called. When I asked the lady on the phone today what changed with times being now 4x as long, she said "I am sorry, we cannot fill your order before others that are already waiting, and we have a lot of orders to fill." I said nothing about wanting to cut in front of other patients, just wanted to know what was going on. I wanted to know if she thought I was an idiot and that there was really four hours of wait time, or if that is just the new policy wait time (so then their is plenty of time to fill, and you don't have to think for your customer, oh, maybe that is the entire new policy, IN NO WAY ARE YOU TO ASSIST THE CLIENT. Please don't go there if you need your medicine quickly, particularly after a Dr.'s appointment. You will have to wait four hour; lets hope it is not life threatening. And when you go to the physical pharmacy itself... wow! There is an order lady that must have recently started (she wears her hair in a greasy ponytail) and she is just nasty! I see customers working with her, and you can see the stress in their eyes as she is basically holding their medication hostage. I don't know how Bartell's is letting this happen, especially in Newport, where everyone is friendly. Someone needs to look into what is going on, because it is NO BUENO for anyone. My son is Type 1 diabetic; what if they hold his medication? What if he breaks his vial of Insulin and needs one ASAP? I have got to get my family out of this place, it is just to dangerous. Avoid the pharmacy here. Slow, slow, slow. Robot-like counter help; not friendly. Was told "prescription will take about ten minutes." Thirty minutes later --thirty! -- they finally advised -- 'will take another hour". Forget it. There are better drug stores that care about their customers. read more

I went in for some nail polish and remover, i have a hard time deciding what color i wanted but i heard on the loud speaker a call to watch me on the cameras! the older woman cashier who works here is also so extremely rude ive thought of filing a complaint about her. The store itself is handy in that they do a good job stocking it with necessities as well as knick knacks. Good prices but mainly nice staff up front. Frankly most are quite knowledgeable about what they have in the store and where it is. Front of the store gets 5 stars. The pharmacy is about what others have described. Unorganized and rude. They always try to blame the customer for their mistakes. Once they told me I should have made sure they spelled something correctly. When I pointed out I could not see what they typed on their computer screen they told me that was not their fault?! read more

The worst pharmacy experience ever. Four and a half months of screwing up every single one of my perscriptions. Over half the time when I call in a perscription they don't have enough pills to fill it. When I called them on not filling my full perscription they claimed it was done that way last month. I agreed that yes they had screwed up the month before and I called them about it and they claimed to have fixed it. The pharmacy manager agreed and said he would fix it again but claimed repeatedly that it was not their fault and tried to get me to pay a double co-pay. I'm going to another pharmacy. read more

I've been coming to this Bartell's for close to 15 years and from the beginning I have been treated extremely well. The staff, both retail and pharmacy, has always been helpful, friendly and courteous, and after all this time I'm treated like "family" by many employees. The store is bright, clean and well stocked and I ususally manage to find some very good deals on sale items. I also like the way they keep track of my prescriptions for me and automatically fill them for me without my having to call them in. All in all, a Five-star place! read more

I used them for about 13 years and they're fired now. I've transferred my prescriptions to Safeway. Why? There's been mix-ups with prescriptions -not good. They fail to let you know when the prescription is ready...even though they asked me if I wanted them to contact me when ready. Customer service is unacceptable. One clerk was argumentative and very frustrating to deal with...until the pharmaist explained what was needed...no apology from the employee. Two weeks ago (when I fired them) I called in a refill and the clerk was unable to understand my name (though both can be used as first or last names) which was which. I repeated which was my first name and which was my last name at least 5 times...horribly frustrating when the clerk cannot understand English. Save yourself and go to Safeway. read more

It is so frustrating...long wait times, out of stock medications, promises of you can pick up tomorrow and then not ready. There was a time I bragged on the merits of this pharmacy. Now it is buyer beware. Calling this pharmacy staff dysfunctional is an understatement. Just listen to the outgoing message for refills if you want a glimpse behind the curtain.
