Went here with a group of 6 people. It's nice you can do a reservation ahead of time. However there are no paper menus so everything is done on your phones including ordering which means we were all getting our food at different times even if we ordered at the same time. Which was awkward having half the table eat so their food didn't get cold while the rest of us just sit there watching. Tried 3 different tacos and all of them were not good. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh so far. It's delicious time and time again. My husband and I eat here twice a month and it's one of the places we bring friends and family when they're visiting from out of town. My favorite tacos are the oyster, Baja fish, and pork belly. You cannot go wrong with those! The ceviche is also delicious. For cocktails we usually go with the caipirinha the food comes out pretty fast too! And it's always a good vibe/nice ambiance. My friend and I tried the New! Bartaco in North Hills. I've heard so many things about it from my friends who have visited the other location that I was so excited to try this one! Bartaco doesn't take reservations. But you can call 30mins ahead of time and get on the list which is a great feature because when we arrived they were packed! The parking is cool! I think there is plenty of parking but be prepared to walk because you probably won't fine a park in the front! When I arrived I gave the lady my name and we were seated within 5 mins! While we waited they brought us some good appetizers it was like a cheeseball with some delicious sauce at the bottom! I thought that was a great touch for waiting! When we sat down there were two girls who greeted us. One of them was very knowledgeable of the menu while the other watched and asked questions. The process is very simple you check what you want on the card they take it up and then they bring you your food! We ended up ordering the Baja fish, portobello & the carne taco! For our side we got the cucumber salad + the corn and everything was good! I paid $12 for my meal (they took the sides off because they had forgot to bring them out) They also have indoor and outdoor seating! We sat outside I am not a outdoor seating person but it wasn't hot and there weren't any mosquitoes or flies which is a great thing! Convenient location after leaving the gym. Went here with a coworker after a workshop and liked the casual atmosphere. Totally acceptable to walk in here in running tights / workout attire or business casual. Accommodating staff to all allergies and food sensitivities. Personally suffer from severe nut allergies and have food sensitivities to dairy and avocado. The staff will be careful to make sure the food they serve you is safe. Went here for the first time for dinner with my friends. I tried the carnitas (10/10), shrimp (6/10), chicken (10/10), fish (6/10), chorizo (5/10), and duck (6/10)tacos. They were all pretty good and fairly priced, $2-3 per taco. The shrimp was on the spicy side and the chorizo was just okay. The carnitas and chicken were my ultimate favs! You are seated and they automatically bring you water. Then, you use the QR code on the table to order. The cool thing is you can order more than once. Dominic and Christian were awesome and really helpful with suggestions and making sure everything was good. The greeter was also really friendly and gave us the rundown on how things worked since it was our first time. Their sanitation rating is a 97 which is pretty good. The atmosphere is upbeat but casual, a nice place for dates, dinner with friends and family, or just a solo dinner. I'll definitely be visiting again soon! read more

Great vibe at the bar here. There was a wait for dining so we sat at the bar (crowded) and ordered some drinks and bites. I got the paloma, which was refreshing. The bartender had forgotten my drink at first but then she comp'd it, which made up for the delay. The other person in my party got a glass of wine, which was a good sized pour. I've gone to both the North Hills and Chapel Hill location. bartaco is a nice restaurant for its price point. The tacos aren't authentic whatsoever, which is expected, but they're still pretty tasty. Some people also might be put off by the way they do their service, but I liked it and thought it was really convenient. You scan a QR code and order straight from your phone, which the server will bring out to you when it's ready. If you need additional service, you put a blue card on this little stand and staff will come help you. You can automatically check out as well to pay your tab. The food is pretty good, but not overwhelmingly spectacular. I had the fish, pork belly, pork and duck tacos. The fish taco was crispy and tasted fresh with the cabbage medley served underneath. The pork belly taco has a nice, sweet glaze to it and is very crispy on the outside as well. The pork was soft and pulled apart easily. Lastly, the duck had a very light smoky flavor to it. The marinades for each were nice, and additional sauce isn't needed, but the sauces offered add a small kick to the food. I also had the tuna, which tasted lightly peppered and slightly citrusy. Overall, a solid experience with fast service, but not a spot to be at if you're looking for something authentic. I had my friend and fellow Bandmate in town so we came here to catch up over fresh Verde salsa and tacos. The tuna poke bowl is by far my favorite dish... As I'm sure you know if you've read my other reviews that's my favorite type of food. The dish with the tuna poke is wonderful here and I always order it! Accidentally ordered the wrong tuna dish this time though because they have two on the menu that kind of sound the same, so we just kept them both and I had leftovers the next day LOL. We tried this place because it was recommended by a friend, and it was right outside the front door of our hotel. I can't say that we were impressed. We did not try the drinks, so maybe they are known for drinks and we missed that opportunity. We tried a few tacos, but they were tiny. The gentleman who seated us did warn us about the sizes of the tacos and recommended 3 to 4 per person. My boyfriend and I thought it should be more like 5 to 6 per person in order to actually feel full. The oyster and shrimp tacos were just OK. They lacked flavor. However, the pork belly and duck tacos were amazing! They were extremely flavorful. They brought us the shrimp taco by mistake, and we sent it back because we did not order it. The waiter said if we wanted to keep it to try it we could, but we would not be charged for it. I realized it was on my bill anyway. I just paid for it as to not make a fuss. You pay on your own through an app at this spot, and I noticed that I was charged twice after I returned home. Still trying to get the other charge reversed. The ambience is rustic, and they have a nice outdoor seating option. I'd say, plan to order quite a few things from the menu including appetizers, desserts and drinks in order to feel full. I stopped by here while in town for a work conference. I got the pork belly bowl which was absolutely delicious. The tacos that my friends got were a little bit small but they said they all tasted great. We started with guac which came with full tortillas that you break up into individual chips. The guac had big chunks of avocado which I loved. You do have to order on your phone which I don't necessarily care for. But the service was great regardless! read more

Their setup is a little strange where they have you write your order on a piece of paper, and once you do, they pick it up and take it to the kitchen... but the thing is: they read your order back to you to confirm it's right before taking it. I had to put it in all caps so you truly and honestly could understand my love and obsession over this restaurant. So I'll give you my 3 top favorites about this location in particular because I have been to others and I realized everyone is a but different: 1. Lunch special- now I'm not sure if they still do this but during the 2019 summer there was a lunch special of a salad or soup and a bowl or 2-3 tacos for just 11$ which was not only amazing but such a good deal. 2. The exotic tacos- yes they have the steak, chicken and shrimp but how about pork belly or duck! Yes they are here and they are delicious- Every. Single. Time. Also their rice bowls are diet friendly and sooooo incredible!! With brown rice and chopped peppers and onions. 3. Finally - the guacccccc! It's heavenly, it's ordained, and it's always perfect. A little spice, a little lime, a little cilantro you literally can't beat it! And the homemade chips make it a must have. Bonus- the drinks are amazing too! So many good things to choose from my fav is the margarita or the Paloma and all juices used are fresh and the best! Aside from all of this the decor is cute, easy and breezy- like a simple LA restaurant in the middle of north hills. All the items arrive at the table at separate times since you order on your phone. I suggest requesting all the items come out at once to limit the number of interruptions. Bartaco doesn't get five stars from me because they don't have queso, I don't love their chips, and the atmosphere is pretty loud. I love, love, love bar taco. There tacos have great flavors. The grilled corn is delicious! You definitely have to order about 3 tacos to be full in my opinion but they are fairly cheap individually. If you've never been there you should know that you order with the paper and pencil on the table and when you're ready you just put the sheet in the paper holder for your waiter to see. One thing to know is that their portions are smaller. Like their guacamole serving isn't going to be a whole lot. However it is tasty! Also, it's located in north hills shopping center so you can easily walk to some shops, target or the movie theater! There is outside and inside seating! There are some sauces on the table for you to add to your dishes if you'd like! I'd definitely say it's worth checking out! read more

* This is for to-go order experience. After having bartaco in Atlanta last month, I wanted it again. While in Raleigh for Hopscotch Fest, I saw that bartaco had a location there. YES! Thank goodness for ordering online & their online ordering site is great! Easy to navigate, place your order & check out. I made an order of two shrimp tacos, a carne asada taco & the spicy cucumbers. When I arrived 15 minutes later, my order was ready & waiting for me. The restaurant​ itself is somewhat small, which is unfortunate for busy North Hills. It's gorgeous​ inside though. When I got to my friend's house to eat, I was so impressed with the bag (sturdy paper bag with handles!) & the box for the tacos (they were in paper dividers!). They even added sauces & silverware (let's be real here, some places forget to add that). My tacos & cucumber salad were delicious & fared well on the 15-minute​ drive. The prices are great. If I'm being completely honest, this place is overrated. I'd rather go to a more expensive, modern Mexican restaurant. You have to pay for every single item you get, and all the portions are so tiny, so it's just not worth the money. The tacos come with barely any meat on them, as well as scarce toppings...my steak taco had maybe two pieces of cilantro and 4 small diced onions. The duck meat was far to dry. I will say that the plantains are absolutely delicious, and the sauce that comes with them is even tastier. The green cilantro salsa is pretty shwae as well. Lastly, the Oaxacan sunshine cocktail is fun and yummy. But the guac is not very flavorful or spiced so I wouldn't recommend ordering it. Oh and the ordering system feels very counterproductive, especially since they have table service and are expecting tips. Why not save everybody's time and take our orders for us? Side note: this does not disqualify the fact that all the waiters were very helpful and kind to us. read more

Then again maybe Tiny Taco is good. Had 4 total and was full after a bowl of Black Beans. The Black Beans were 5 Star. The flavor once stirred was perfect. Our waitperson was great, liked her. She has a quick wit and just fun. She was first standoffish but once she learned old farts, well some old farts, have humor too, then it was off to the races. The North Hills section of Raleigh is home to a lot of fine restaurants, and Bartaco is certainly one of them. My wife and I were in town and decided to forego our before-dinner drinks and head to eat early. We arrived a little after 5:20 on a Saturday evening and were a little shocked to see people waiting outside. The hostess greeted us and let us know there was a 20-30 minute wait. We provided our number and were told we would be texted when our table was ready. It was rather cold outside, and the bar was completely full, so we ended up waiting just inside the door. There isn't a lot of room to wait inside, so it was a little cramped. As we waited, we noticed people coming in that had booked through an app, which we did not know about beforehand. We also noticed a large number of people sitting at tables far too long after finishing their meals. The on-duty manager, Carey, came over and apologized and got us seated after an over 45 minute wait. Once seated, it was great. We had the special margarita, as well as the house margarita, which were delicious. We also split a large order of various tacos. The sleeper item was the plantains. They were awesome! The food and service was A-plus. I will definitely go back, but definitely make a reservation or find out what app they use to book ahead of time. read more

We came on a Saturday night for a birthday dinner. There were 8 of us and we called ahead for 8pm. We know that when a restaurant doesn't take reservations and only does call ahead seating that there's no guarantee you'll be seated quickly. When we arrived we were told it might be 30-45 min. We decided to go to the bar and wait. We had some wonderful drinks and the manager would periodically tell us they were still waiting for a table to open. After around the 1hr mark of waiting they brought us some chips, Salsa a guac which was a very nice gesture. We were finally seated after waiting around 75min. They were so kind and brought us a bunch of apps on the house and even gave the birthday boy a shot. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. Staff is super friendly. We showed up at lunch time on Saturday so it was busy, but we only waited about 30 minutes. So when you go to this place they have the online ordering system; you scan the QR code in your photos and it brings up your menu. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a kids menu, which my kids loved. Food came out quickly but unfortunately, with this ordering system, they did forget to bring one of our orders, which we had to flag someone from the staff for, which was fine. Was made quickly and brought to us in a timely manner. I will say that if you have a larger party they seem to cram you into a small space because the restaurant itself is not large. That was a little rough because we have three kids and had four adults present. The food is decent, they have some interesting menu options. Unfortunately, I didn't get much flavor from two of the three tacos I ordered. The fish and the shrimp tacos are just a strong taste of lime and not much else. All in all, cool place, fun atmosphere.
