Food was on par and 4 stars. I found it unconventional to be mexican and charge for any sauces to go with the mexican food... on that note I'll say the pricing is unusual and it was over $100 for a party of 3 with a single app of nachos and water for drinks. Many mexican restaurants like to include their homemade nachos to get you started and it can leave an impression IMO. To be fair, both the cook and the waitress were new for our visit. That seems unfortunate but no harm and no foul other than 1 partially wrong order. I rate this 3 stars especially given the number of Mexican options in the area. read more

Came here years later for shrimp tacos and steak tacos. We also got a side of corn. I remember having a great experience here so wanted to try them again. The shrimp tacos were great and cheesy. Unfortunately the steak tacos were disappointing. It was thrown together in big chewy chunks and a mess. It was unfortunate because we drove far to try them again. We had a family dinner night at 13 Tacos & Taps by our house this weekend. We have been in search of a go-to spot for Mexican food near us, and happy to say we have found the spot. The decorations inside the restaurant were fun and vibrant, especially the large abstract mural. It was pretty casual, so perfect place to bring our 1 year old. We started off with birria & queso with chips -- the birria was perfectly cooked, falling apart at the touch of the fork. It wasn't too spicy, so my daughter also thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband got the chicken & waffle tacos which were SO fun - the smoked maple syrup flavor really brought it all together. I opted for their fresh catch of the day tacos, featuring a whole roasted poblano and smoked black fin tuna - the smoke on the tuna was delectable and I thoroughly enjoyed these tacos as well. The sides were nothing to write home about, but we weren't worried about those at all with our delicious tacos filling us up. This is such a fun spot for delicious, unique tacos and the perfect spot for a family outing. The owner even stopped by our table and was so incredibly welcoming. New favorite Mexican food spot. It's a super cute space that feels one of a kind and local. Our server was friendly, helpful, patient and overall just wonderful. Never in a million years would I have figured that there was/is a cool "fusion" Mexican place hidden in North Raleigh. A small place, a few tables but very comfortable and some outdoor seating as well, the service is GREAT and super friendly. The Chef even stopped by to check on us, and thanked us for stopping by as we left. The food was next-level. Flavor in every bite of everything we ordered. The guacamole was delicious and had a nice little kick to it, and was gone quickly! The birria tacos were perfect and the amount of filling was just right, the consommé delicious. I'd hesitated going to this place for quite a while. My expectations were not high. I shouldn't have concluded or assumed. This place was excellent and I could kick myself for not going sooner. I feel like I missed so much. I went with 2 relatives and we all agreed that 13 Tacos & Taps was amazing. We didn't order anything that we didn't like. They were busy so service seemed a bit rushed but, we did get everything we needed and wanted. I highly recommend if you think Mexican fusion appeals to you. read more

I found 13 Tacos on instagram. A post read "best Mexican food in Wake Co". It was extremely good. Cocktails were perfect. I ordered tacos and my date ordered the monthly fish taco which was Mahi. Everything was so good. A little spicy but still amazing. I wouldn't recommend the queso but there are other appetizers. Service provided by Brittany was excellent. High quality Tex-mex and margaritas. Since leaving Texas I've been on a mission to find great Tex-mex, this place nailed it. The mahi mahi taquitos were spectacular and paired well with the rice. The margaritas were fun and salted to perfection. Try some queso, you won't be disappointed. Side note - it just finished raining and we had our pup and needed a spot to go. Great experience, flavorful food, fresh guacamole, and excellent margaritas. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent.

The restaurant is small but well laid out which makes it quaint compared to the much bigger restaurants. The bonus it that there is a pretty good selection of food and the food is delicious. If in doubt about one of the items the staff will bring you a taste for you to decide. The wait staff is very attentive and friendly with lots of food recommendations. I enjoyed my Korean Porky BBQ tacos. It wasn't your traditional tacos and had a good mix of spicy and sweet. I was a bit surprised to open my to go box and find an entire corn cob for my side of arroz crema. All other places I've gotten this it's not been on the cob. Not my favorite. The mixed drinks looked amazing, so I would come back to try those. Service was a little slow on a Thursday at 5pm, but the bartender was very nice and kept us updated on our orders. read more

He takes the Jalisco style birria to another level with not only tacos, but a birria torta, birria burrito, even a birria queso to start the meal. And. It. Is. Amazing. My buddy opted for the chicken mole enchiladas which were fantastic, but did I mention the birria? Hannah the server was friendly, fast, and knowledgeable- a real keeper. We had the Big Bird Taco which is Achiote Marinated Char Grilled Chicken, Avocado Salsa, Pico de Gallo/ Queso Fresco on Flour Tortillas and the Birria Taco that is dipped into Birria, a slow-cooked stew, traditionally from Jalisco, Mexico Both were excellent as was the Corn on the Cob, Mexican Style. Excellent example of what this town needs -- elevated Mexican food. Tired of the same menus? The same bland shredded chicken? The same stiff refried beans? The same pink Spanish rice? Give this place a shot. First thing is first: The prices are north of what you will find at El Generico. The seating is tight. The dining room is very intimate. The menu is going to rhyme with El Generico, but your not going to find some of the standard flag-bearers. You're going to pay for chips and salsa unless there's a special that night. That being said... if you're adventurous, looking to try something new, and don't mind dropping $30 to $70 per person (if you get drinks, apps, & entree), then by all means, drop in. The food is very fresh, the flavors are very bold, the drinks are extraodrinarily well crafted. Bring the kids? I don't know. I don't think your kid is going to appreciate spicy Korean BBQ tacos. It's not kid unfriendly, but it's pretty cramped dining room and the menu is more challenging than El Generico. Perfect for date nights though. Compared to the other fare available in the area, I would give it the 5 stars. read more

It's been a hot minute since I've been back to 13 Tacos & Taps. Got no good excuse for it either so I won't create one. For those not in the know, it's a tiny eatery in Falls River off Durant and Falls of the Neuse. I counted about 11 tables and a few bar tops. Reservations recommended or else opt for takeout. I almost hate to say this because it's gonna get flooded with first timers and I'll never get a decent table time again. But hands down, this is the best Mexican food and best service (shoutout to DeMario!) in all of Raleigh. read more

Food was great! However, other things just didn't sit so well with us. When we were first seated, we were told to make sure that the kids not touch the table lamp. I thought that was odd. It's the day where kids eat free with a purchase of an adult meal so clearly you're expecting kids. But to get such a rule is just odd. If you don't want kids touching them, don't have it on the table. Some menu items didn't have pricing. I get the based on market price but unless you ask for the price, even when you order it, they aren't going to tell you. It definitely came across as a small business. I can understand that given my husband is as well. But it was more evident because it came across as making sure nothing is wasted and they get the most revenue out of everything. Upsell was definitely present. We were constantly asked if we needed anything. That part was nice. Kids meals were charged when should've been included since it's a Saturday. They acted like it was a mistake. It could've been. It just seemed that every chance there could be an extra dollar made, they were going to take that opportunity. Not sure id go back because it shouldn't feel that odd to eat. But kudos to the chefs who prepared the food! I hope they find the balance of trying to make every dollar and not having the customers see and feel that so evidently. And- don't put lamps on the tables that aren't kid friendly . read more

This place is great!! Mexican food with a creative twist, wonderful flavors, fresh ingredients. the four of us had 4 different meals, tacos, a special, a burrito and all of us loved the food. The owners are delightful, walk around to the tables to see if we're pleased, service is great. My only wish is that it would be closer to NC State where we live but we've decided it's worth the 25 minute drive. Food and Service were excellent. Artfully decorated, too. Don't come here thinking you're just getting tacos. You are going to be pleasantly surprised by the variety and inventive selections. I had a type of fish tacos that isn't always on the menu and Steve had enchiladas mole. He nearly scraped the plate clean. The margaritas were spicy and delicious. The Tres Leches cake came with a sprinkle of candied lime on top that took it to the next level. Definitely worth the hour and change drive. Priced right, as well. This place is next level. This was my second time visiting. The menu is very forward thinking - a merger of fine dining presentation, exceptional pallet, and traditional Mexican cuisine. Every entree I've gotten has been spectacular, whether the off menu specials, or their popular "Mole-tia". The arroz crema is fittingly referred to as addictive. Higher end price point, but worth every penny. Both servers i had were knowledgeable, kind, timely, and professional. We ordered the house margaritas -- passion fruit for me and cucumber for my husband. Both were delicious. No complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered the smoke mahi crispy rolled tacos with a side of beans. The beans had so much flavor-- definitely not your typical refried beans. Tacos were good as well. The specials are tempting, but it's hard to pass up our favorite, fish tales II with beans as a side. These are mai mai tacos. Delicious and do get the excellent beans. Recently stopped by for lunch. Located in a strip mall, this quaint eatery may be small in size but it packs a punch in flavor! To start off, we enjoyed their chips and queso. The chips were fresh and the queso had just the right amount of heat. The menu primarily revolves around tacos, with a few Mexican inspired options sprinkled in. We decided to try the shrimp tacos which h were delicious. However, the standout for us was the unique chicken and waffles taco. So good!
