I was in town for a conference and decided to give Torchy's Tacos a try. Since it's a chain, I was skeptical, but it was some of the best food I've had in a while. The chicken was crispy and the flavors of the bowl were amazing. The queso dip was perfectly seasoned and spicy. It's pricey but I definitely think you get your money's worth. I liked it so much I considered going back the next day. The reason I deducted a star: my order got forgotten and I waited over 30 minutes. I placed an online order and went in at the given pick up time. Pretty soon, a worker politely asked my name and went to check on my order. She came back and said it would be a few minutes. About 15 minutes passed, and I watched dine-in customers who ordered after me receive their food, as well as multiple take-out customers. Finally, the worker asked me again what my name was, and checked on my order. She said they were still working on it. After 5-10 more minutes, she checked again and brought it out. This whole time, I could see into the kitchen and my order had been sitting on the counter for at least 10 minutes before I got it. It happens, and the workers were friendly - I just would've given them a bump if they'd apologized for the wait or acknowledged it. It is a bit of an awkward set-up for pickup orders, as the only place to wait for your order is basically in the dining room near tables where patrons are eating. I found both flavors to be very tasty and the two tacos to be filling. Overall, if you're wanting the classic taco, this is not the place. Orders are placed at the counter with the cashier or a kiosk and then brought to your table. It did not take long for our food to be brought out to us. I love their queso. The chicken fajita and brisket tacos were delicious! These tacos are huge, I would have been fine with just 1 since they are overfilled. I ordered from the touchscreen and then the bartender brought them over to my table. All the staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean. The bartender recommended the Democrat, a beef barbacoa, which can be on a corn or flour tortilla. Solid taco, which you should get with all of the toppings for the most authentic flavor. And of course went with a midday watermelon Red Bull margarita, I didn't get much of the watermelon flavor but it did the job. LOADED tacos! In fact, for most folks, two tacos are plenty here. We enjoy coming to try the special tacos of the month when we can but every taco on the menu is solid and comes in layers of flavor. The breakfast tacos are also not to be missed. We didn't get it this time but the queso is indeed "damn good" and comes with a few toppings like cilantro, guac, and cotija cheese. This trip, we tried the churros which were excellent because they were freshly made. The service has always been great for us. If you would like to there is an option to use a kiosk to order but you can also always order from a cashier. As someone with food allergies, they allow customizations easily and when you order online, you can select all of your allergies. The place itself is casual but you also get your food brought to you via the food tracker. Bathrooms are clean too which is a plus. We've been here numerous times and I've always had a mediocre meal. We usually get chips and hillbilly queso, normally pretty good. This time the chips were coated in salt, so I asked the bartender to send us some fresh ones and the reason for the request. The replacements came out exactly the same, hot, but glistening in salt. So I sat scraping and rubbing salt off every time I ate one. The bartender just averted his gaze and didn't even bother to ask if the replacement was better. Which brings me to the Friday night bartender... this guy is terrible. I have sat at his bar maybe a dozen times and every time he just goes through the motions, no real concern or customer service attitude or personality I did get a fajita taco in addition to the ill-fated chips. I've been back a few times since then and my experiences have just been okay. One time, it was a full house and there were no tables available. I asked a worker if there was a line or anything to wait for tables and she was like "maybe something will open up soon" so I just went ahead and got my food to go instead. I had a great lunch at Torchy's. I arrived right at noon last Saturday for lunch after getting a pedicure nearby. There was already a long line forming. There are menus located right when you walk in to browse before you order at the counter. I was sad that they were out of queso and shrimp during my visit. I ordered the taco of the month; Baja fish, the fried avocado taco, the fried chicken taco, a side of chips and salsa and the Top Shelf margarita. I found a place to sit, and my chips and salsa along with my margarita were brought out to me. The margarita was tiny for the price, but tasty. The chips and salsa were just ok; the chips tasted slightly stale and I wasn't a big fan of the salsa. Then my tacos were brought out to me and I loved them all. Especially the fried avocado. So after about 6 hours of doing deliveries, I stopped in. Most of the taco prices were between $5.50 and $7.00. I asked the worker behind the counter how many tacos come in an order. I was told 1; and gosh, I was stunned. I mean I wanted to try 3 or 4, but I wasn't paying 6 or 7 bucks for each taco! So I went with the burrito bowl grande. The word grande is a misnomer. It's like really fatty and it's kind of gross so that's the only thing I wouldn't recommend they should definitely go back to their old bacon because it was delicious. I had the Midnight Cowboy Taco (January '23 taco of the month) and it was phenomenal. The potatoes in it were excellent and really made the taco - don't knock it till you try it! Also had the green Chile pork taco which is always on the menu. A rounded up 4 for this one! I originally discovered Torcy's in Houston and had been to a couple Phoenix locations. I was excited to try the Raleigh one since I had a free taco to redeem as part of the reward program. I came on Thursday around 830 PM and sat at the bar for full service (it's also an order at the counter type in the front portion). It's a nice enough spot in the middle of a shopping complex, so great and convenient for stopping for a quick bite in the middle of errands. It was not very crowded or busy, so I was waited on immediately. I ordered the democrat (barbacoa, onions, cilantro, avocado) taco on a corn tortilla and a top shelf margarita ($2 off on Thursdays). My bartender was really friendy and the taco came out fast, under 5 minutes. The drink was tasty and refreshing. The barbacoa, while tender and juicy, was lacking a bit in flavor. It was a good size taco though (as one would expect for over $5 a piece) and I'd definitely be interested in trying some of their other items- I think they have a secret menu too so that would be fun to look into. read more
