Mi Cancun is a reliable local Mexican spot that we visit often, and most of the time it's an easy five-star experience. The food is consistently good, and the drinks are especially fun and beautiful (always colorful, often garnished with fruit or flowers). It's a great place to bring friends or family and enjoy a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Service is usually super speedy, which is part of why we return so often. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was a major outlier. Our waiter forgot about us several times, and it took over an hour and a half to receive a very simple meal. Even getting our change back after paying took far longer than it should have. Because this experience was so different from our usual visits, I'm giving it a 4 instead of 5. I still think Mi Cancun is a solid neighborhood spot with great food and standout drinks. Just hoping this was a one-off service issue. I went to this location Friday night for dinner. I had a very unpleasant experience with my waiter, he comes off very rude and very aggressive. It's not the first time we've had him and he acts that way. We asked what his name was and they told us his name is Jorge. He always seems to wanna rush everyone out the restaurant and is not attentive at all. You have to even ask other workers for your check because he doesn't come back to check on his tables. We were there for some time and also witnessed him acting very aggressive and causing a big scene with another worker who is a women. That should not be aloud at any establishment especially when it's a man being aggressive and I think almost threatening that young lady. We could hear a very loud commotion in the kitchen and we think it was him taking it into the back and causing a bigger scene back there. It was a very, very chaotic scene to witness especially when all of his coworkers seemed to be in shock of what he was doing. We could tell it was something very bad because we could hear the yelling & the banging coming from the kitchen. Everyone else who works there is very good but Mr. Jorge is someone that should not be in the customer service industry if he can't be nice and attentive to his customers. We had to ask another person to get him in order to get our check. He didn't even attempt to get us any refills. It's just very bad customer service from his part. We've been coming here for a while now because we live in the area, but after the scene last night we don't know if we will be coming back to this location. Someone like him working at a place like this and acting in such a way in front of customers really makes you not wanna come back at all. Besides his low effort in making us feel comfortable the food was the only thing decent. Something definitely needs to change & some action should definitely be taken against Mr. Jorge! Came here for the first time last night and had a great experience! First, parking was convenient and right outside of the restaurant. We were seated immediately and the chips + salsa were at our table before we could blink. I was really impressed with the quality! The chips were crispy with a slight taste of lime, and the salsa was flavorful with just a little bit of kick. I ended up getting the spicy steak tacos for my entree, and I thought they were pretty darn good, but I'll probably get something different next time. My wife's spinach chicken was delicious! The special for today was $5.99 Top Shelf Margaritas. So my friend and I ended up ordering 3. When the check came we were charged for the "regular" (bottom shelf) margaritas - $10.99. When mentioned to the waiter he said no you ordered the regular margarita. I have never ordered a regular margarita even if it's the special- I always order the top shelf margarita. When we both said no, we definitely ordered top shelf and each of us said the top shelf margarita at least twice while ordering he said no, walked away and charged us $15 more for lesser quality margaritas. We are frequent fliers there but this isn't the first time I have seen them claim that a person ordered something not on the specials (and double charge them) when Ive witnessed them order something on the specials. We were in Cary for a baseball tournament in late October. We had a party of 30 and they happily took our reservation for a Saturday night and we were thankful because no one else in the area would take a reservation for a group our size. The servers and hostesses were all friendly from beginning to end. The restaurant was clean and festive with plenty of TVs to watch the World Series. Our food came out with no issues, was accurate, warm and delicious! The whole team was happy and raved about the service food and overall experience. Good parking. Went to meet some friends there for dinner and drinks. Mexican, so should've been a good time. Ordered a tequila and the beer special. When ordering food, we asked specifically about a dish ingredients. We received our answer and decided to proceed with that plate. When it arrived, it had ingredients that did not match what she'd say previously. It began with that. They took dish back, fixed what was wrong, but then omitted ingredients that are listed in the menu, and we did want! Very dissatisfied. Then, we actually asked the server for the managers card, and she completely ignored the request. Never brought a card. Mi Cancun was a very run of the mill Mexican restaurant. Nothing stood out about the experience. A solid salsa helped elevate what was pretty "bleh". My husband is a big mexican food lover, we always plan on going here as it's his fav restaurant (he generally goes to the other location at grace park close to his workplace), finally made it on Cinco de Mayo The service was prompt and friendly, we were served the complimentary chips and salsa after our waters. My hubs got a jalapeño spicy margarita which he said packed some heat and the choripollo (I think he's been getting this for the last 6 years) I got the shrimp enchilada verde with a side of rice and refried beans. We loved the food. The last time we were here I did get the sopa de elote(corn soup) that I loved, but I didn't see it on the menu this time. Take a step towards paradise with mi Cancun. Literally though, you step in and there's bird chirping noises. Feels like a tropical getaway. They had lots of tvs and cute decor to round out the homey but tropical ambiance. The service was good, nothing to write home about. Let's get to the food though, I know that's why you guys are here. I gotta say, I thoroughly enjoyed my food. I went with my friend and we started out with the trifecta: salsa, cheese dip, and table side guacamole. It was spot on. I don't think I can describe how good the guac was. Definitely the best I've had in Raleigh. Let's talk about the main course. We got in just before the lunch specials were over, so you know we had to sneak in our order 2 minutes before it ended. I got the chicken fajita burrito. The lunch specials come with a side of rice and beans, salad, or soup. I love Mexican chicken soup so I went with that. It was all very tasty. I've had better soup but it wasn't bad by any means. My friend got a quesadilla with beans. She loved the quesadilla but the beans were a little odd. I know it seems a little pretentious to take off a star because of beans, but it is a Mexican restaurant. If you don't have good refried beans, that's a big issue to me. Came here on a Thursday night (no reservation needed) and were seated immediately. I wasn't sure we would get a table when we first walked in, but as they walked us back I noticed the place is deceivingly large and has a whole back section with even more seating. Immediately we were served waters and hot chips with salsa (flavorful salsa at that). There was someone coming table to table asking if you wanted fresh guacamole and how do you say no to that, so we partook. The guac was soooo good! Our dishes were also great. There was a small mix up with the type of beans I ordered (black instead of refried per the waitstaff's suggestion since I'm vegetarian), but when the server brought it they said the refried ones are also vegetarian. I didn't get a chance to ask if the rice was also vegetarian (no chicken broth, etc.) but gave it to my husband since I had plenty of other things to eat. Will ask next time. Service was excellent. Our waitress was fast despite the number of tables she was working with and kept our chips fresh and our drinks filled. This is a great family-friendly place and I loved that it was busy as we often end up in Mexican-American restaurants in the area that are declining... where there might be one or two other tables and service is slow. I'm pregnant so didn't get to try a margarita, but I'm already looking forward to coming back for a margarita and more guacamole as soon as I can! read more

Food was a decent portion and pretty standard for Mexican fare. Nothing stood out, but nothing was particularly bad either. The salsa was great the first round, but it was tasted different once we ordered more. I do wish they had more vegetarian options, and that any changes or substitutions didn't cost $3 (subbing beans for meat on any dish shouldn't be an up charge). One thing I did appreciate and would come back for is the free cheese dip if you checked in on Yelp. I choose the street corn which was very good. It was more on the sweeter side and sis not have any spice to it like I've had in Mexico. None the less it was the star of the dinner. The chorizo was not spicy at all and kind of lacked in flavor. There was a lot of meat in the taco and was a very good price. They had lots of alcoholic drinks and they all looked so good too! As I see them expand, I am proud of their growth, mainly due to their great consistency and hospitality. They have the best carne asada in the state, and everything else is generally great. I've only ordered takeout here. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. They give you a HUGE portion of chips and salsa, even with takeout order. Unfortunately, in my last order I found a hair at the bottom of the chip bag. It definitely wasn't mine. I still really like this restaurant and the ambience looks cool inside.
