I always love Barrio- the food lives up to the hype, the margaritas go down easy, and I love the menu. Tonight was exceptional. Tonight I tried the Willoughby location for the first time. My friend ordered queso to share. Why have I never tried the queso??!!! What a fool. It was so good. We devoured it, but before our chips could even empty, our waitress brought us another basket. I loved my shrimp taco with rice and lime cream sauce. And the green goddess tortilla is to die for! Really the best part about our night was our waitress. She was really efficient and made everything so easy. She was laid back but friendly and I don't think we had to ask for a single thing. I wish I remembered her name, but she was awesome. read more

It was obvious how hard everyone from the hostess to the bartender tried to not seat our group of 4 people (not even a large party by any terms). I really loved this place. The wide variety of meats and flavored meat they offer is great. They have some flavors that seem odd but they taste yummy, such as the coke flavored beef. They have a slip where you build your own tacos which is easy to do. The employees here are friendly and helpful. There is outdoor and indoor seating available. You can also ask for items on the side. Their drinks can be strong but they do have a large drink menu. Their cocktails are fun and different but the bar can make other drinks if you ask. read more

I used to work at a barrio so I know how the service is supposed to work. I asked for lemons and the waitress said they did not have any, then come to find out they did have lemons but "nobody is here to cut them". All of the servers are trained in cutting fruit from my working excuse so I knew this was not true. LOVE the laidback vibe that this place has---it's a chill atmosphere where you get served with free chips and salsa and then you can build your own tacos! Super straightforward ordering the tacos and it was so fun to order! Get the green goddess taco upgrade- totally worth the extra $1 to get a hard shell encased in a soft shell taco to give a crunchy texture!! Also I cannot forget to rave about the margaritas!! I love checking out new restaurants when I'm out of town. We hit up this spot on our way from Cincinnati back home to Rochester after Thanksgiving. It was about 7pm on a Friday and it was packed!! My husband noted that everyone at the bar looked like a teenager, but I think that just means we're old and this place is super trendy! ;D I tried a house margarita with chili lime salt. I have absolutely NEVER been to a place where I can pick my margarita rim from a list of choices!!! It was fantastic!! And the margarita itself was good, not very strong though, and too many ice cubes. But the chili lime rim was so amazing that it made up for any lack of tequila. The create-your-own-taco sheets are awesome, and they allow millennials to talk to the server as minimally as possible hahaha I got the fish taco, which for that day was mahi mahi. The fish was grilled perfectly and the char flavor was great. My only issue was that there wasn't enough fish for me!! I also got a chorizo filled taco with the chorizo shell and OMG life changing!!! If you like a Taco Bell cheesy Gordita crunch (just the style, not the quality of Taco Bell lol) then this taco shell will blow your mind!! I need another ASAP. Also, a tip for 30 something's and up, and also those that decide this is a reasonable place to bring a baby (it's really not, but we worked with it!)... the back area has booths and is mostly secluded and wayyy quieter than the bar area or the front room. read more

Barrio Taco is one of those places where I've heard all of my friends go to but I've never really bothered to go out of my way to go to Barrio primarily because it has been downtown Cleveland. Well they finally opened up a barrio in Willoughby and boy oh boy am I glad that I went. Barrio kept the footprint of the restaurant they moved into a place called Olive or twist. It was a busy Friday night and the hostess told us it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait and we were seated in five. We sat at a high top table and it appears you probably don't have a dedicated server as there lots of people running food getting drinks they seem to teamwork serve all of the tables. Which I find is pretty cool. With most Mexican restaurants they give you some chips and salsa the salsa that they bring out had quite a kick to it in the chips were salted just right. Of course they were bottomless and I did not want to overeat on the chips and salsa. Both my wife and I had two drinks a piece I had a Maker's Mark tall and my wife had the margarita on the rocks with the house made sweet sour mix. The way you order the tacos at Barrio is there are these half sheets of paper that you can take off what you want on your taco. Hard or soft shell you pick your protein and pretty much whatever you want to stuff in it. I chose a chicken taco and a shredded pork Taco. Each one of them had rice beans lettuce cheese and you get your choice of sauces to put on it. Generally cost about $3 so it is not an expensive night out. I had two tacos they came out wrapped in foil they were delicious and the portions were just the right amount. The tacos weren't over spilling or falling out of the sides nor did you need a fork to eat them. Our total bill for two people for drinks for tacos was about 40 bucks or so. I will not be returning. I've had a previous disappointing dinner here but thought it might just be a fluke, but it's definitely not. Used to be a huge fan. This place is not what it used to be. The queso and chips were the only decent food. My brother and I each ordered 2 tacos and the Al pastor bowl. Everything was just mediocre - the "Al pastor" tasted like unseasoned pulled pork. I can make better Mexican food at home and that's not saying much. The shrimp taco I had was a little cold but I just thought I let it sit too long while eating queso. The shrimp was DEFINITELY bad so BE WARNED!! I was nauseas not long after we ate and ended up with the worst bout of food poisoning that night that I've ever had in my life. I nearly went to the hospital. You could not pay ME to return here - go to Condados instead if you're looking for a similar, better, and food-poisoning-free, experience. read more

Barrio is so delicious and the location in Historic Downtown Willoughby is the perfect place for it! I absolutely love their Mango Habanero sauce on my tacos and their pulled pork with it is to die for. They might as well serve me a straw with their queso because I can and will chug it. If you go on the week days it's not nearly as busy as the weekends where there can often be a longer wait for a table. Their margaritas are worth their price which isn't pricey compared to other areas in DTW. My favorite is the peach margarita I would for sure recommend. I love the ambience of the restaurant though it is dark as with any bar/barrio. I'd recommend to any taco and drink lover up in the area! read more

It is vibrant, fun, eclectic, loud, engaging AND the food is very good. How can you not like the food? It's Tacos! You must be un American not to like tacos. Holy yummo tacos! Today was my first time at Barrio in my lifetime. I know what your thinking, I've been living under a rock. My bother and sister in law rave about Barrio. This was the first place I suggested we go to together! Great choice on my part and great recommendation from them! This new location opened up here back in January of this year so it's very new and very popular. I got here 450 pm and I'm glad I got there when I did. I got a table in the bar area and waited for my plus 2s to get there. It was happy hour! Bonus! Drink specials and 1$ off tacos from 4-7! Prime time! I don't drink so I cant tell you about the drinks but I can tell you about the food! The waitress was so nice enough to explain the ordering process and the options available. There is a score card type sheet at the table and you fill out how you want your tacos prepared with all the fixings you want. So many to choose from! You are also given free chips and salsa when you sit down. Refills kept coming! I'm not vegetarian or vegan but the Thai chili tofu and portobello mushrooms sounded fantastic! I got a soft taco with Thai chili tofu with pineapple salsa apple jicama and sautéed peppers and onions. I also got a soft taco with portobello mushrooms with lettuce sautéed peppers and onions and cilantro pesto sauce. Love that sauce! Both were fantastic! The tofu was spicier than I hoped but the sweetness of the apple jicama and pineapple salsa leveled it out. 3 bucks a taco which was 2$ a taco during happy hour. There are specialty tacos for 4$ and up-charges for certain ingredients. We also ordered the corn salsa queso and the traditional guacamole! Both were so good but the queso is top notch. Get it! You won't regret it! The price is unbeatable during happy hour and regular pricing is not bad. 3$ or 4$ for a custom made taco with fresh ingredients made the way you want to?! Can't beat it. Of course the drinks will set you back some cash but better choice to come during happy hour. The 3 of us was only 35$ not including tip. Great deal This is a great place to hang out with friends and family but it gets busy..like really really busy! Don't come here if you are in a hurry. The wait is worth it though so don't leave if you aren't in a rush. Parking can be a biotch. Road parking and 2 lots but certain days valet starts ridiculously early for the brewing company and Sol in the back so parking spots are reserved. Bullshit. People aren't going there. I used to LOVE this place and then... The last 5 times I've been there the food took an everage of 30 minutes to arrive. I know that doesn't sound bad but when there are maybe 20 people in the entire place, this isn't good. Also it's just tacos. But I think I figured out why. 10 minutes to make it and 20 minutes to bring it to you. Friendly staff, great food. Parking in rear of building makes it easier. They do have a back outdoor patio . Lots of seating on inside. We love their salsa. Has a smoky flavor, so good. Also, love their gauc, & queso. Personally, my favorite taco is the El Jefe Loco! My husband and I love coming here for date nights. For just us. The queso is bomb and so are the tacos. My negative - rice and beans count as a protein.. so there is a $1 additional upcharge each PER taco.. which seems crazy to me. Your $3 tacos are now $5 each if you choose to add traditional fillers. They barely add a tablespoon of rice/beans to your tacos when you do pay additionally for it. Pro tip - order a side of them instead and share with your table (so they can put it on their tacos too). If you come with more than 4 people, be prepared to wait an hour or more for a table. It is not a kid friendly environment. Yes, they have high chairs but they don't have changing tables in the restrooms? There's also not a kids menu.. so don't even think about it. My 6yr old wasn't happy with anything we ordered her and there were no other options. read more

Where do I start? Never been to this high priced taco stand before but here I was with family to celebrate Sons birthday , it's were he wanted to go. Anyway I look fir a menu, none..... my son hands me a slip of paper with tiny boxes in it and tiny writing and a pencil. This is the menu, you check off what you want and it's not clear what your paying either , very sketchy. I get riced calli bowl with tofu it's about 8.00 I expected something the size of chipoltle for that price , I did not get that instead I got the equivalent of maybe two cups of food in a big bowl that was good but not worth the price I paid for Calliflower and tofu . The rest of my family got 4 tacos each , there were 5 of us. One pitcher of margaritas a couple of beers 4 total and a berry margarita for birthday boy, I tasted it, but it was small so I didn't have too much as two sips would have taken the whole drink . We were asked if we wanted chips and salsa, I said yes as I'm used to that just being out in front of me at any Mexican restaurants I've ever been to, I also ordered side of guacamole to share. Now everything was tasty and the very small table we sat at 3by 3 foot square was a challenge to place 5 peoples food on with drinks , had to remove table dressings and condiments to make it work but we not waitress did that, I was shocked at this also. The decor is witty. I loved it. I can see the attraction of the younger set and my age group . We finished and my son was so happy we had come there I was happy he was enjoying himself. Then I saw chips and salsa were not gratis but everything else couldn't have been that much . I'm sure I still have receipt in my purse but I am never stepping foot in that place again. I could have went to Texas road house and family could ha e eaten steak for that price. I could have went to el palenque and eaten three times for that price or twice with alcohol. Chips free. Nice atmosphere there too. The waitress really wasn't anymore than a drink mule ( very nice ) but didn't work very hard fir the tip we gave her which was 20% of 189.00. I'm def not going to do that but a waitress all my life takes your order and can see your table is way too small for three men and two women. Good to that the Olivor Twist location (BTW one of our favorite places) has been open with Barrio! This well known #CLE eatery finally has made it to the East. So, time for a stop in. Stopped in after a movie (The Post, must see!) around 6:45 and faced a wait of 45-60 mins, which didn't bother us. Got closer to the bar for drinks and moved to a spot to wait. Got our table in about 50 minutes which wasn't a big deal. Settled in and placed our orders. The variety of the selections all hit the spit. Not one complaint! Also the guacamole and chips appetizer was top notch. Fresh warm chips that keep on coming hit the spot. Overall a great follow up to a good evening. Then why only 4? Noise! I'm not the #GetOffTheGrass old guy, but never thought I would leave a place and join the rest of the crew say its so good to hear again. Sure Sat night, but the noise level was totally unexpected. Hopefully it was due to a pleasant evening to get out and celebrate another new addition to D'Town Willoughby. So, be forewarned place can get VERY loud! read more

I was super excited to hear that there was a Barrio nearby. From my good experience at the one in Cleveland, we had to stop to get something to eat! It was late afternoon on Sunday and the place was pretty full. We had about a 15 minute wait but they allow you to walk down the main street to check out other shops while you are waiting for your pager to go off. We got sat in the back area next to the kitchen entrance and it was definitely not as loud as I thought it would be. The restaurant has a good vibe. Very chill but you can tell people are enjoying themselves. I ordered a drink off the drink menu that I had high hopes for but next time, I'll pass. However, the food came out and it did not fail. We went on a Saturday afternoon while it was pouring, so no outside patio. It was difficult to find a parking spot in the back because the area is pretty busy with restaurants. The place was pretty packed, but we got seated fast. They have a good selection of tacos, including vegan options. They also have a wide selection of beverages. My first three visits to Barrio in Willoughby were great .. today, not so much. The service, as always, was excellent. And chips and salsa are yummy. But the tacos today were a huge disappointment. The fish taco was STONE cold, and the fish hinted of being leftover from the previous night. All of our tacos were no more than 1/4 filled. Two tiny strips of Coke-marinated steak ($1 extra) were barely a mouthful. Slapped together, cold and stingy -- not good adjectives for tacos. I may try Barrio again, but will need to wait for the cold fish to become a distant memory. read more
