This place is great. The fajitas are absolutely my favorite and the large margaritas. There's always spacious booze for you to sit at and the food comes out quick. It's authentic and consistent. Tried Compadres for the first time and the food was super delicious. I got the carne asada street tacos--tender, flavorful, and loaded with fresh toppings. Easily some of the best I've had in a while. The chips and salsa were also a standout--fresh, crisp chips and a salsa that had great flavor without being overly spicy. We definitely kept going back for more. Service was friendly and polite, but the food took quite a while to come out, even though it wasn't super busy. That was the only downside. Still, once everything arrived, it was worth the wait. The space is clean and casual with a chill atmosphere. I'd absolutely go back--just maybe not when I'm super hungry! read more

The food and drinks are very good and the service is great. We visit Compadres often as it's been our favorite local Mexican restaurant. We've been eating here for years. However, the last two visits (both within the last two weeks), we noticed they changed the chemical they use to spray the tables when they are cleaning them. It's AWFUL! It has a terribly strong scent. So, when you're eating, if someone leaves the booth/table near you, an employee is going to clear the table and spray that awful smelling chemical. It's so bad, we had to just give up eating our meal last week, ask for the check, and leave. We won't return until we know they've gotten rid of the cleaning solution. It's a shame because we love going there with 3 other couples frequently (8 people). read more

Compadres is a nice little restaurant that I can see myself going back to. It is cute and very clean inside, making me feel 100% confident in the food to come. I would love to try more of their street tacos, but the beef birria ones were excellent; the beef wasn't dry and it came with a side of broth and a reasonable amount of rice and beans. Our waitress was very nice, checked on our table a few times, and the staff overall were pleasant upon entry. The combo platter looked good, and it wasn't as big as I thought it would be; it was fair for the price and quite manageable when looking for a good meal out. You can get a combo as simple as one taco, one burrito, and one enchilada. The nice part was getting to choose the meat for each, and the person in my party who ordered it had great shredded chicken. Great place for a workday lunch. Cool decor and friendly staff. Very welcoming. Complimentary chips and salsa are great to pick on while ordering and waiting. The Enchiladas Mexico are delicious. Three different enchiladas with chicken, beef, and cheese. Large portion of aa side of rice as well. Service is prompt and friendly. They got us in and out to return to work on time. Would recommend to anyone in the area for lunch and may return with the family for dinner some time. Another great lunch today. This place does well getting small groups in and hour during a work lunch hour. Waitress was friendly, great service, and comfortable with separate checks. This restaurant is in a small Plaza with private parking. It can seat pretty large groups. My last visit was with a coworker for lunch. You will get seated pretty quickly at the front door. Its fairly busy at lunch but they handle it pretty well. I was in and out in about 45 minutes. They offer lunch specials which are mainly smaller lunch portions from the main menu. I went with the chori-pollo. It was very warm and well seasoned when it came out. I would get it again. read more

Truly, this a surprisingly excellent restaurant tucked away in a little strip of shops on the north side of Route 20. My cousin and my daughter are big fans of Compadres and now I and my girlfriend are, too. The two of us love Mexican food and have been to many Mexican restaurants and we found this to be one of our favorites. We dropped in on a Saturday evening and had a little bit of a wait. The restaurant was bustling and we were probably the fifth or sixth couple waiting for a table. The hostess was very pleasant and conversational, which was the same disposition as the rest of the staff we encountered. We had a table within 20 minutes, a surprisingly short wait for a popular date night. Our server was very attentive and we didn't have a long wait for our food to arrive; about 20 minutes at the most. Our plates were filled to the edges, so portions were plentiful and hot, not to mention very tasty. We never had to ask for drink refills and a second server came by to check on us while we were eating. We had a really enjoyable dining experience and can't wait to return to try more menu items! read more

We have been loyal customers. We order several times a month. It is now $16.89 for fajitas with NO meat. The burrito puerto Vallarta is $18.89 ... with a ton of different meats and shrimp. We ordered tonight and spent $40.. we got about 10 chips, the salsa was terrible. The fajitas and burrito taste completely different. The veggies were raw and bland. The shrimp is still blue... raw. New chef? Terrible night? They forget the extra tortillas every time... I pay for them and I never get them. I always just deal with it.. and now check. How can you forget those every time??? We had dinner with another couple here and we are going back! The nachos are amazing! That should have been just my meal, but I was ravenous and got enchiladas mexicanas as well. The enchiladas are awesome!! I love the cheese ones most of all(strange for me!! But so good). Husband got combo platter and it was really good. This was bad. Really bad. Here's how it went down. We arrived around 6:30 for dinner. It was our first time dining at Compadres. The hostess greeted us. I asked her if the food was good. She replied, "Eh. It's okay, I guess." It struck me as odd and I looked at her quizzically, which prompted her to say, "I don't really know. I don't eat here." Suffice it to say, I don't blame her. After we were seated, I perused the menu and noticed that it was rather small for a Mexican restaurant. Menus at Mexican restaurants usually have a hundred items, which always makes me wonder about the quality of the dishes. So when I saw the limited menu, I thought perhaps their idea was to focus on making quality meals with a simpler menu. Our server brought us chips and salsa and came back promptly to take our order. Then began the wait. A long wait. A very long wait. The restaurant was not particularly crowded. It was a quiet Monday night. But still, we waited and waited. When our food finally arrived, it was cold. And worse, it was not good. In fact, it was terrible. The waitress took some of our dishes back to be remade. It arrived back hot and fresh, but still . . . the taste. It just wasn't good. Something seemed off. We tried to eat, but left most of the food on our plates. The waitress asked if we wanted "to go" containers, but we declined, paid our bill, and left. We returned home, relaxed and later went to bed. I awoke shortly thereafter with a horrible pain in my stomach. It's since been a long day of frequent trips to the toilet. If you're in the area and in the mood for Mexican, I would recommend going a little further down the road to Don Tequila. The food and service are much, much better. read more

Everything was pretty good and our orders were delivered quickly. The staff was attentive and helpful. They charge for extra chips & salsa if you are wanting more after the first bowl. What is it with you Clevelanders drowning everything in this processed queso sauce?! You wouldn't know Mexican food if it came in dancing La Cucaracha with a Mariachi band in tow and threw salsa on you? This place is a spinoff of Taco Bell as a sit-down restaurant. I grew up in Southern California and spent the majority of my days eating Mexican food... real food cooked by real Mexicans. Nowhere in that state is queso a thing. I have also eaten Mexican food in New Mexico- also cooked by Mexicans. No sign of queso there either. And the ground beef! Neither state uses ground beef in their tacos unless you are at Taco Bell, by which, SURPRISE! Its not real Mexican food. Somewhere, someone's abuela is saying 25 Hail Mary's 40 Our Father's and rolling over in her grave. Trust me. We came to Compadres a couple weeks ago for dinner because it was slammed busy and the numerous good reviews. Boy was that a mistake. My hubby ordered enchiladas and I ordered tacos. everything was ground beef and drowned in queso. It was like a heart attack on a plate. I actually felt my arteries crying out for help or an angioplasty. The service was also terrible. Never again. I will have my dad ship me some spices and I will have to make my own Mexican food from now on. A taco is carne asada, onions, cilantro and chile on a soft corn tortilla. None of this hard shell Taco Bell stuff. I realize that this is probably a regional thing... the processed cheese sauce and lack of flavor. We are VERY far from the border. If I were to open a Mexican restaurant in Cleveland, it would fail miserably because people would die of flavor overload at the tables. My tip to you all, travel. Experience real foods. I have been going to Compadres for the past 4 or 5 years. Fortunately, they are about ten minutes from my work, so I am able to go there often for lunch. The food is very tasty. I have not been to Mexico so i won't pretend that I can attest to whether or not it is "authentic Mexican." But I can speak authoritatively as a fat guy with experience eating at many Mexican restaurants when I say that Compadres is the best Mexican place in Lake County. I have taken many co-workers here for lunch and meet my wife and kids here from time to time as well. My four year old, who won't eat anything voluntarily, sits right down and tears up five tacos on Taco Tuesday. My favorite dish is chori-pollo. This is a grilled chicken breast smothered in chorizo sausage and melted queso fresco, served with an amazingly fluffy rice, refried beans and tortillas. The servers are so attentive that they normally know my order before I sit down. Very friendly staff. The only knock I have on them is the chips and salsa can be inconsistent. Sometimes the chips are totes awesome, sometimes they taste like the fryer oil needs changed. The salsa seems to be varying degrees of spiciness (all good!) depending on the day. Hmmmm. I'm from California and have really high expectations for mexican food. As one of the newer mexican restaurant in the area I was never really intrigued enough to stop in. My dad actually found a 20% coupon in the mail so we decided to go up there to eat, have a couple drinks, and watch the game. The greeter was very kind and our server was very enthusiastic, but my dad was quite upset when he found out they didn't serve beer nor did they have a Sunday liquor license. While waiting for the food I noticed a couple of the guys chasing each other and whipping each other with towels (quite unprofessional). At last the food came out after about 15 minutes. My enchiladas were pretty good, but my dad was claiming his beef tacos were on the saltier side. All in all... Mediocre place nothing that really stood out...mediocre food and mediocre service. I have no choice but to give this place just one star. My family stopped in here after a karate practice at the karate place next door. I will have to say that the server which prompt courteous polite and very apologetic. He didn't warn her that there were some weird stuff going on in the kitchen. They bring chips and salsa, but the salsa is pretty bland and could stand to use a little spice. I had a beer and we ordered our food. The kids ordered off the kids menu, and I ordered the burrito special which was a chicken burrito and a beef burrito. It was pretty pricey at 10 99 but I figure the burritos would be massive. I was sorely mistaken because it looks like they were made with 8-inch tortillas. At the 25 minute mark for waiting for food I ask the server what was going on he apologized again and said that the kitchen is really backed up all the place did not look that full. When the food came out the place too hot for the food was cold and I mean cold to the touch. The cheese was not even melted. Sadly, we sent the food back and told the waiter no thank you and he apologized profusely and comped the bill. Feeling shining star of this place would have to be the waiter, I don't know why there are so many 5 star reviews but from my time here he clearly is a place I will not go back to. read more

Not a whole lot of great Mexican food around these parts. The restaurants that are here are very similar with identical menus and somewhat bland tasting Mexican food. Perhaps I've been spoiled after living in Texas for a few years, but this is honestly how I feel about the food in the area. Despite this, I enjoy Compadres because I the food tastes good. I've carried-out from here on several occasions and have always enjoyed their food. Probably some of the better Mexican food in the area. I came here a few days ago with two other people for a birthday celebration. The hostess did a great job seating us. Other than that, the service pretty much ended at this point. It took 15 minutes for the waiter to introduce himself and get our drink orders. We specifically requested the appetizer come out before the entres. Of course, they came out at the same time approximately 45 minutes after being ordered. The one thing that did come promptly was our check. Despite the very medicore to below-average service, the food was tremendous. Chips were fresh and warm. The salsa tastes great with a wonderful blend of cilantro and a hint of habanero. The appetizier sampler is a great value. For the main meal I had the vegeterian enchiladas which was a beast of a meal: 6 enchiladas--2 cheese, 2 spinach and 2 mushroom. Simply tasted awesome. I'll carry out here again, or perhaps sit by the bar to catch a game (very cool looking and nicely decorated bar area with a nice flat-screen TV), but I don't think I'll come here to dine in. I'm not sure if I spelled that right, but you know what I'm talking about. Shrimp, chorizo, chicken, and steak are blended with peppers, tomatoes and onions and served in this giant vessel. Horrible experience. Had a table of five. There were no tables available that would fit our party size so we were told we would have a 10 minute wait. No problem. After 15 minutes we were told that there was a reservation that had to be seated first. We were never informed of that. When my wife went to speak with someone, the wait staff was making fun of her.
