Compadres is my go-to Mexican spot. The one in Ashtabula is great, but the one in Madison is top tier. The service there is quick and super friendly, they check on you at all the right moments, and you can get a seated view of the lake in the distance behind the park. The ambiance in the place is great with lively decor and Spanish music playing gently in the background. But nothing compares to the food. The salsa has just the right touch of spice, and it is blended well for those of you who don't like it chunky. The queso has wonderful flavor and they are not shy with it if it comes on your dish! I always return to their steak nachos, and I would recommend them over the fajitas any day! The crunch of the tortillas, the smothering of cheese, and the well seasoned steak and sautéed bell peppers make this a hit for me every time. Went to ohio for the weekend and decided to try this place out. As a Mexican, the food is not authentic at all. Salsa tasted like it was from Tostitos. Beans tasted like they came out a can. Rice did not have flavor. Birria was salty. Food wasn't the best but had Mexicans sodas. Customer service was alright. Would not come back here again. If I were to come back here I'd probably go to Mcdonald's instead. read more

My favorite go to Mexican joint. The chimichangas are my favorite - one beef one chicken - the guacamole and quest blanco spot on perfect. If you love seafood you have to get the seafood burrito or the seafood chimichangas- both are amazing. They have delicious appetizers and quesadillas too - but sometimes I get that the meals are so big getting both is overkill. They have great specials - Tuesday 5 for $5 tacos, Weds and Saturday are mucho margaritas for $4.99 (love the peach and the original), on the daily lunch menu you can get a one choice lunch with rice and beans for $5.99 - and I think it's Thursday the fajitas are on special. Super friendly and attentive staff, great Coca Cola drink selection and a kids menu that supplies choices for even the pickiest kids! (With a drink $6.49). Really decent Mexican restautant within eyeshot of Lake Erie! Compadres has all usual fare common to Mexican restaurants throughout Northeast Ohio (enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, etc.) but they've also added some unusual ingredients to the menu to choose from. Imagine adding crabmeat, scallops, even lobster to your enchilada or fajita! Not for me... but you can imagine or try it! Compadres is above par on quality and preparation - the salsa actually had flavor (vs the usual watered-down version in most restaurants) and my tostidos were surprisingly crispy and crunchy! One of the best Mexican places in Ohio. I've been coming here for years whenever I get the chance. From a first glance this place looks like a house and you couldn't imagine that it would be very good, then you go inside and are blown away. If you come here on Thursday or Saturdays they have great deals on Frozen Margaritas where a grande is only $4.99. Mango Margaritas are my go to. For my meal I always go with a Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla and a side of rice. The quesadilla is so flavorful, I've never had one that good anywhere else. Service is always friendly and most of hte time extremely quick. The take-out here is also great. Once I sat inside and then I ordered and extra quesadilla to go and our waitress even put chips and salsa in for me. There is also outdoor seating, weather permitting. Highly recommend this place if you're down by the lake or in the area looking for a place to go. read more

For Madison, Ohio this mexican restaurant holds up well. They have a few great choices on the menu like the Carnitas but overall the food is just average. The service, however, is fantastic. No matter who you have as your server, they make sure you have everything you need and are knowledgable about the menu from top to bottom. The decor is nice with the hand crafted bar really standing out. They have excellent margaritas and great beer specials most nights of the week. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant! I really miss a being able to walk down the street to enjoy a meal here. In fact, I would make the drive from Chardon now to here because it is that good. The Super Quesadilla is amazing, the queso is perfect, the menu has everything you would want, and the restaurant looks great. There is always something unique to try as well. The Taco Tuesday special they have is great too! It always seems to be a little cold inside, but I guess that is NE Ohio for you. Went early at 5 on taco Tuesday with a group of 9 so we could get a seat. Seating was no problem. Haven't been here in a year. Here's my review by category: Chips and salsa: 4/5. Chips were fresh and tasty and replenished quickly. Salsa has changed from prior years and was ok. It was better before. Ordering: 4/5. Waiter seemed a little confused but I was encouraged that he doubled checked the order before leaving and he had it mostly correct. Drinks: 1/5. 5 people ordered the margarita special and all 5 agreed that there was no alcohol and all margarita mix. One person order an extra shot on the side after tasting his. He added it but said the mix was overpowering. These were much better last year. Food delivery: 1/5. Our order had a variety of items including the taco special, regular menu items, kids meals and side items. We always get a bowl of tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream as extra side items especially for the tacos but everyone uses them. 3 servers brought the food but it still didn't come all together. The side items were not delivered and we had to remind them which took several minutes while our food sat there. We also reminded them twice that we ordered a side of refried beans. Both people said ok but they never arrived. One person in our group paid the bill on the side and I'm sure we paid for them. Food: 4.5/5. Food was really good and better than last year. There were no complaints from anyone. Quantity was good. The amount of filling in the tacos was great and improved over last year. Last year when visiting Madison we went here 3 times. This year only once because of the overall experience. We'll probably try them next year to see if there is an improvement. read more

I really like this place. It's casual. It's fast. It's affordable. The service is friendly, and the food is YUMMY. I can't say that it is truly "authentic", but it's good, it's consistant, and no matter what I order, they're happy to turn it into a vegetarian dish for me. It doesn't hurt that the margaritas are AWESOME!! I go to the one in Painesville 2x a week for lunch (sans margaritas). It's worth mentioning that they are so accomodating that I am able to get in and out in under a half hour so that I can get back to work on time. That's good service!!! Thanks guys! Went here yesterday & haven't been there in almost 2 years -- sadly it was really disappointing. The food tasted like it was all pre-packaged, not fresh. Nothing had much flavor and it was all just really salty. There were flies all over the place - which I understand is sometimes hard to avoid with doors opening and closing, but no one wants to bat away a bunch of flies while they're eating in a restaurant. Only reason I have 2 stars is because the waitress was nice - I wish the food would go back to how it was 2 years ago; when it had a real authentic Mexican flavor & taste to it. Now it just taste like someone bought some pre-packaged items and threw it together. Save your money and make your stuff at home! read more

Ate here over the weekend on our way to PA. Place was very clean, servers were very friendly and pronto. Food was made fast, delicious, and hot. Kids were happy with the coloring mats. Came here last night to check out who's occupying the old Flying Burrito space. I guess I'm biased as I live a few miles from the Mission District in San Francisco where there is a taqueria every 20 feet or so, and Compadres is no Mission taqueria. I think my highlight was 23 oz. Dortmunders for $2.99 on Friday nights. I guess that's not saying much considering this review is about a Mexican restaurant. Another highlight was the service. I don't remember my server's name, but she was fantastic. My recommendation is to skip the salsa and ask for pico de gallo instead. I will be back to try something different though as I don't want to slam the place based on one slightly okay burrito. My boyfriend and I came to compadres one of our favorite places to eat. We had a server who was also tending bar, restaurant not so busy for a Saturday evening. The server got us our drinks but never came back for our order. Now I work in this field, have for years and understand things happen, people get busy but to ignore someone for 15 plus minutes and not say anything is just rude. Compadres does have a very Mexican theme atmosphere and a large enticing menu. However, my experience wasn't the best. The "background" music is way too loud, which makes it difficult to talk and hear. Our waitress was not very attentive and ended up overcharging for cheese sauce by over $3. Food was just okay, not alot of flavor. I heard the front phone ring multiple times and there was not any staff up front to answer! Not good customer service. We had a wonderful meal last night here at Compadres!! We each had margaritas with their yummy chips & salsa to start! So tasty!! Myself & my friend ordered the Chimichanga's dinner with 1 ea chicken & beef chimichanga's...perfectly seasoned!! I had recommended them to our friend since she had never tried them & she LOVED them! Rice was perfect & not dry, beans were moist & just the right amount of cheese! Our third friend ordered a big ole burrito...and she couldn't stop saying how delish her food was too!! We've hit this place up at least once a month over the past 4 months, and we have always had fabulous fresh tasty deliciousness EVERY time!! I should have gotten the young biracial gentleman's name that was our server, bc be is always on the ball with his service, always has a smile, and makes sure we want for nothing when we go there! (Actually embarrassed bc I should know his name by now!). We actually had a whole group of more friends that came in as we were leaving!! Let's face it, we aren't going to get real, authentic Mexican food in our area. It isn't going to happen. So this is my favorite of all the Mexican restaurants in our area. The food tastes more fresh, as opposed to being premade and then heated to order, like some of the other restaurants. (And who knows, maybe they do premake and then heat to order here, but it certainly didn't taste like it to me). The salsa is delicious. The service could use some help, as we've sat in the booth waiting for our check more than once while the waitor / waitress sits in a booth at the front of the restaurant on their phone or chatting with other employees. But that's not enough to keep me from coming back for their delicious dishes. read more
