The food is so fresh! The pico is bursting with cold, fresh, juicy flavor. The portion of the quesadilla is insane!! The steak strips inside were lovely, soft and not overly chewy. The rice you can tell is made, as well as the beans.. definitely not from a can. We got the queso which I forgot to get a picture of, but it was more like melted cheese queso than canned queso. The salsa was fresh and just the right amount of spicy. I ordered their seasonal special Azteca which were dough rolls filled with chicken, corn, and black beans covered in a chipotle-like sauce. They were my favorite thing I tried here, so so good. Of course we also ordered sopapillas, and they were much like an elephant ear with chocolate Hershey's sauce and whipped cream on the side. I would have rather had a caramel sauce and a small portion of vanilla bean ice cream on the side.. but as is it's great. I would say the quesadilla was very soupy at the bottom from the fresh meat juices, maybe the meat should be allowed to rest a little longer before it is sliced and put into the shell, but for those that don't mind a bit of a soggy bottom the flavor was unique and delicious anyways! This will definitely make our top list of Mexican food places in the area, family friendly and very affordable. They have a happy hour from 2pm-6pm that saves you money on appetizers, and for two cheese quesadillas, a giant steak fajita quesadilla, Azteca Special, sopapillas, and one soft drink we came out to under sixty dollars. Been here a few times and have always had a great experience. Tonight we sat at the bar and our bartender was great (but super busy). We ordered a skinny margarita and it was delicious! I ordered a chicken chimichanga a-la-carte and it was huge! Loved the diced chicken inside instead of the typical shredded. There was refried beans in it - and although I'm not a big fan, it wasn't bad. My husband ordered the Chori Pollo and thought it was delicious. Chorizo wasn't too spicy either. Conveniently located right next to our hotel, this spot accomplished my main goal: getting food into my body--and happily, it tasted good too. I ordered a simple bowl with grilled fish, and it hit the spot. Generous avocado, beans, a bit of greens, all coming together for a fresh and tasty combo. It even came with chips and salsa on the side--nothing to write home about, but perfectly snackable. The only downside was the service. Staff wasn't very attentive and could definitely be a little more simpático. Easy, satisfying food in a convenient spot--just don't go in expecting warm, welcoming service. Run to this place! Ambience is lovely, staff are so nice and friendly , food and drinks are the best Mexican dishes I've had (and we eat a lot of Mexican all over the country!) My hubs had the chicken in grilled pineapple, I had the vegan dish with a nice variety of vegetables. Only issue was that their drinks were so tasty, I drank way too many. Haha! It was fairly empty, but I was in at an off peak time. I ordered the combo plate, and thought it was good, but not amazing. The chicken flautla and cheese enchilada were kind of small, and got kind of hidden in the huge serving of rice. The chips were almost stale. There was nothing particularly wrong with my meal, but nothing I would make a special trip for. I did like that you could make your meal supreme, and add lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. read more

Authentic and amazing! We spent two nights here enjoying the truly delicious and authentic food and classic margaritas for me. The menu has something for everyone and we had to ask our fabulous servers for help on some choices! Mother daughter trip was so much fun here. My trip to Azteca went pretty well. First of all the food was pretty good, the chips were crunchy and the salsa had great flavor with a hint of citrus, the bacon wrapped jalapeños where honestly quite underwhelming and had little flavor but they weren't terrible, finally the Burrito Chicago was amazing, it was full of flavor and overall just tasted good. The service was good but nothing amazing. The atmosphere was outstanding, there were decorations and the music was great, on top of that the bathroom was very clean and it was very pleasant to be in. We visited this restaurant on a late Friday night, well after the dinner rush. We were immediately seated and waited on. The restaurant was still fairly busy, with lively music. I started with a spicy mango margarita, and it was fabulous! I then ordered some guacamole and some (fried) fish tacos. My hubby got the steak and shrimp. Very nice presentation with everything. I went in yesterday and I had my psychiatric service dog with me because we were shopping at Sam's Club before and it was crazy busy with it being the day before the superbowl and I was in a panic. I had my chihuahua service dog in her stroller, she was quiet. The guy at the host counter asked me for a "proof card" that she was a service animal. I informed him of the law that they were not allowed to ask for proof and they could only ask two questions only and I will not answer any other questions about my disability or my service dog. They sat us in a corner away from all the other customers. Then the manager came in and asked the same question. I explained again. He told me I needed to show proof in case other customers complained. Luckily I had my iPad which had a copy of her letter from my doctor. My service dog was quiet in her stroller the whole time. While visiting family this past October we all met at Azteca and had an amazing experience. Everything from the staff to the food was fantastic. And we absolutely loved the south of the border ambiance which was done in a very traditional manner. On our next return to Mentor from St Augustine we will meet and eat here again. The food here is awful, their salsa taste just like plain tomato sauce, their chicken and rice was so salty You couldn't even eat it, and they charge 1.99 for a glass of bleached soda water! Today for dinner I wanted to try something different. One of my coworkers has driven by the place many times and finally convinced us to meet for drinks and dinner. Today drink special was spicy pineapple margarita. It was different. The paring of pineapple and jalapeño just didn't sit right with me. It is a nice size drink for the price. For my meal I chose the shrimp diablo. It was spicy and the heat brought sweat to my forehead. The heat didn't over power the meal. I love the addition of yellow and green squash and roasted tomatoes. I would have served it with white rice but it was delicious. . To be honest my meal was good but not mind blowing. My brother was visiting from out of state on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th). We took him to Azteca to celebrate the holiday. He had the seafood barria. I had the chicken burrito and my wife had the vegetarian dish. All of the food was delicious! The waiter was very courteous and pleasant, and brought our order promptly. With so many Mexican restaurants to choose from in the area we have a few that are our favorites. We've been here several times and it's always been consistently good food and service. Prices are comparable to other places and servings are generous. I always get the chicken chimichanga, it's my favorite and theirs is unique, something about their sauce, it's creamy and delicious. I like the rice too. We recently brought family with us and they liked it too. We will be returning customers. One very minor complaint is that it's a bit noisy for me, but it won't keep me from coming back. read more

I knew I wasn't going to find authentic food around this side of town but I wasn't expecting the food to be this bland. If you want authentic Mexican food you will go to La Mexicana and get food from the kitchen connected to the store. The drinks are way over priced as well as the food. I got Tinga which was not made properly. They basically dipped the chicken in an oily sauce and called it Tinga. I asked for adobo sauce and they said they didn't have any(that sauce is on their menu). The service was terrible, and the server was rude(other Yelp reviews were accurate). I sat on the patio and they closed the store and left with my friend and I still on the patio with our drinks and food on the table, as well as another couple behind us. And they left their open sign on. If the owner would like to reach out in regards to proof on leaving their customers on the patio and closing up the store, I can provide that or maybe look at your cameras(unable to add videos). I had decent hopes but unfortunately this was by far the worst restaurant I've ever been to out of all the states I've traveled.
