My husband and I go out to eat 4-5 nights a week and have for years. Downtown Willoughby has a lot of restaurants so we had plenty of choices where to spend our money. Unfortunately, this time we ended up at Barrio. The restaurant wasn't that busy. There was no reason why we had to wait almost an hour for cold tacos and hard rice. I should have trusted the reviews that warned about these problems they've had for a while. They offered to remake our food but we had waited long enough so we ate it anyway. They didn't offer any drink refills until they brought the check. Condado was founded by a former Barrio business partner. Barrio sued and lost. Comparing the overall review ratings for Condado Mentor and Barrio Willoughby from multiple sources, Barrio is also losing in Lake County. And Condado has free parking. Barrio doesn't. We should have gone to Condado instead. read more

We came here on a Sunday afternoon because I absolutely love the location and the food at the Cleveland Heights location. This location was not even close in either of the respects. To start off, our server had a terrible disposition. We were an inconvenience to her. our table had no paper towels, which is what they use as napkins, and she was totally put iff that she had to go find a roll for us. We had six people in our party, including two teenage kids who love this type of food. All of our meals had issues with them. Part of the problem, I am certain is that was she didn't input to what we ordered. The other issue was the kitchen didn't really prepare things properly, which is hard to believe because you are checking off items on a sheet to customize your taco and get exactly what you want. Since I work in the industry, I tip the below 20%, but I only tipped 10%. That's how terrible our service experience was. Barrio is a wonderful restaurant chain, but this location needs a lot of work. In addition to the issues we ran into. Barrio is usually my favorite taco spot. Anytime I'm in the Cleveland area I make it a point to stop in. The Coca Cola braised steak is a go to on the menu for me. I went to the Willoughby location for the first and was very disappointed in the food the other night. My server was the bartender and he offered me chips and asked if I wanted queso but made no attempt to tell me it was $8 extra and it just showed up on my bill. I ordered two build your own tacos both with the bomb shell. They arrived quickly but with terribly small portions in both tacos and no filling between the hard and soft shell which is an upcharge and cold. This was unfortunately the worst experience I've ever had at a Barrio. I usually only have positives to say but I think sometimes these chains expand to fast and the quality drops as they continually open new locations. read more

As a regular, I am extremely disappointed in the service I received from Barrio on 09/08/2025. I went out for food and drinks with a friend and the bill came out to $53 with a 20% tip included. I tipped on card as I didn't suspect anything would happen. I checked my bank statement the following morning, they had charged me an extra $35 on my account, totaling $88. I sat at the bar so they rang me out at their POS station as opposed to the mobile POS and I didn't think anything of it. I went in this afternoon, found out they had charged me for food and drinks I did not order, the staff did not seem apologetic or concerned in the slightest. I was only able to get $32 refunded and was told the $3 was for taxes...I loved going there, but am going to reconsider after this experience, I recommend for those who pay and tip on card to watch their bank account for any suspicious activity. read more

I went in to pick up order at quoted time and it was not ready. the host said it would be ready in a minute. I waited an additional 15-20 minutes and the order was still not ready. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager never spoke to me. I finally received my order and the tacos were literally drenched. They were so wet they were falling apart. Stopped by Barrio after a long bike ride for some much needed nourishment. We needed a restaurant that was open late and Barrio was one of the few that met this requirement. Upon arrival, we donned our N95 masks and entered the establishment. It was not busy so we were greeted and seated immediately. The waitress arrived and took our drink orders. We all ordered water to start, but then reviewed the drink menus for specials. I went with a Modelo Negro beer because I enjoy the flavor of this beer, especially with tacos. For dinner, I ordered two El Jefe (chicken) tacos and one shrimp taco. A short while later, our tacos arrived wrapped in foil, which kept them nice and hot. The foil is a nice touch not only because it insulates well, but you can use it as a wrapper to catch taco drippings. My El Jefe tacos were tasty and they included a soft and a hard shell, which I liked. But the shrimp taco had a more interesting flavor. I swear I tasted dill on the thing, but the menu said it had cilantro and lime. Anyway, it was a bright, yummy flavor. I really enjoyed my tacos and I'd like to try more of them at some point. read more

While I usually enjoy Barrio, we were there this past weekend during brunch and I was very disappointed in my food. I'm giving it three stars because my husband said his food was delicious and our service was good but the items I ordered were nearly inedible. Until that day I didn't know Barrio had a special menu for bunch and I wish I had never found that out. Both items I ordered came with an over easy egg but the eggs I had were cooked well past over easy and they tasted like they had been sitting out under heat lamps for awhile. Came to Cleveland to visit one of my friend's who was in town for business. She raved about Barrio for weeks, so we came here for dinner. The vibe is really nice, the bar area is great to sit and talk with your friends and there's a patio outside for warmer months. The service was great. I can't tell you the amount of chips and salsa we consumed along with queso. The build your own taco concept is really fun! But they also have a ready to order menu with some really good combinations. I went with La Tierra (steak) El Jefe Loco (chicken) and Camarone Agrietado (shrimp). La Tierra was my favorite of the three. The caramelized onions, grilled portobello mushroom, steak and secret sauce were a combo made in flavor heaven. It can run on the pricey side let taco, but three tacos will definitely fill you up. We had a great server, it was a great meal and I know why people love this place! People with allergies should be able to enjoy food too. Especially from a chain that has allergies listened on their menu ! It's not chain that's the problem the location in Cleveland and many others are better the managers at the Willoughby location are just beyond foul people. Why open a restaurant with gluten free options/allergies specified if you hate those group of people and for context they didn't give us the tacos at first then gave the complete wrong ones with the ticket attached to the box. This action was deliberate they only have one person in their kitchen so it's not a communication issues. They also served people raw meat before this location truly doesn't care about its customers so if you want to spin the dice on possible meat or an allergy attack I would recommend this place to you. read more

Dined inside, they have barriers between the booths and are wearing masks. The food was good. I had the Coca Cola steak. It was so good and tender. The ground sirloin is good too. My son had the chicken and shrimp and liked it so much he got extra to go. The server was very nice and explained everything well. It was my first time. My son goes there a lot. Nice atmosphere. Willoughby finally got a really solid Mexican restaurant to add to its downtown menu offerings! This place is always busy, so my fiancé and I were pleased that we were able to get in easily on a Wednesday evening so we could celebrate my birthday with a good meal and a cocktail. I was glad it wasn't too busy because that makes conversation difficult. The atmosphere is lively and fun, the decor is simple and distinctive , but not distracting. Ordering food is a bit out of the ordinary and may be a bit confusing for first timers. You have a couple ordering pads that have menu items on them, so you pick your custom dishes, or pick from established items. We decided to pick our own and discovered when the bill came that it was a pricey way to go. Make no mistake, there were hearty portions, but two custom soft tacos cost $24. (Thanks to my fiancé for the treat.) We ordered a couple bourbon cocktails and they were quite strong, so there was no skimping on the alcohol. There's not much else to say about Barrio. As soon as you set foot in the door of that restaurant, it oozes a black, white and red Day of the Dead theme. There's something cool tucked in every nook and cranny and on every wall. It's family friendly and also has a large bar towards the back with much more additional seating. They have an excellent selection of cocktails and brews. Our waitress was very nice and throughly explained the ordering process, which seems a bit overwhelming at first. I ordered a few different custom made tacos, gauc and two margaritas. Decided to try barrio for the first time and I was definitely not impressed. I am not too big of a fan when it comes to Mexican food but I love to snack on some salsa and queso. My husband and I decided to try the threw amigos appetizer mix. We got the corn salsa, queso blanco, and the pico de gallo. The queso was the only one of the three that I would recommend to anyone. The pico de gallo was very very bland and was basically just chopped up tomato with a sprinkle of onion. The corn salsa was average tasting. My husband said he liked it but we both agreed it was bland as well. Once again basically just corn with a little onion. The queso was definitely creamy and delicious but if you were to compare to any other Mexican restaurants queso this would be my very last choice. I will say, they are open until 1am so you can't beat that for some late night snacks ! read more

Ok so officially I've given barrio two tries at two different locations to get it right and...I have to say. No. Not going back. Ever. Unless it's happy hour and I'm drinking only. So the pluses.... The bathroom was clean . The bartender was nice and attentive and the food came out in time. The negatives, there was a really bad odor walking in and not that of food. It smelled like a dirty mop but once you're sitting in there you can actually get past the smell. We decided to go with there spicy chicken as well as there beef tacos. The ingredients did not taste like they were fresh at all. You know that taste when you bite into a fresh onion or fresh lettuce that different? Yeah well for these tacos, from what we had you can definitely tell these were not fresh. we were extremely disappointed especially since we were looking forward to trying the sauce that cost an extra $0.50. We have tried a lot of different spicy sauces, and although they can be hot enough to cause a tingling sensation in your mouth, there will also be some flavor. They're hot sauce that had the six pepper symbols on it, literally just tasted like chili powder with water mixed into it and no flavor whatsoever. Okay, so we decided we would give it another chance and order a third taco that would be completely different and super mild. We couldn't even finish it because it was just not pleasing to the mouth at all. Don't get me wrong, we have had great tacos in Cleveland so much so that we weren't even planning on going there right after we we had these tacos just to make sure that we weren't thinking things. DO NOT ORDER TAKE OUT FROM HERE. After an already stressful day, I decided to make things easy and pick up dinner from Barrio. I placed an online order to pick up at 5:20 and I arrived 5 minutes late in case it was delayed since my wife and two little kids were in the car. The hostess told me they were behind and it would be 5-10 minutes. After 10 mins I asked the hostess and she said the kitchen was "rushing my order." 10 minutes later (30 minutes after the time it was supposed to be ready) my order was still not out and my little kids could no longer take waiting in cold car. With no end in sight and car full of hungry and antsy littles, I told the hostess to cancel my order. She said she couldn't but would ask her manager to. As of the writing of this review, the charge is still on my card and I foresee more of a hassle in my future. I ordered food from their food truck days earlier and know it would have taken them less than a minute to make my small order. I've eaten in person here before and it's alright but after this poor service, I doubt I will again. read more

They put a small piece of pork belly and smothered, I mean smothered it with cream. It was the greasiest taco I've ever tried to eat. I ordered a plain margarita with salt. Arrived with no salt and it had been siting at the bar for a while so was watered down. Cmon guys. I know it's "covid frenzy" time but that doesn't mean you should mistreat the customers who actually walk in the door by serving stuff like this. High point. I recommend trying the specialty shells - you can get a hard shell taco lined with cheese and a soft taco - this way you still get to enjoy the crunch without the shell cracking and causing a mess. Solid family outing tonight. Other than the 30 minute wait, this place was perfect. Bartender was very friendly offering beers from this great draft selection while we waited. The queso and guacamole was awesome. You order and build your own tacos. Once you sort over the options on the order form, service is very quick. The tacos were very fresh and tasty. First time here. The chips were very good as well as the queso and guacamole. You get to make your own tacos the way you want them. I enjoyed that concept. You can't go wrong (and if you do, you only have yourself to blame!). Everything is custom made so you know it's freshly made and can be specified to exactly what you want. Options are endless--double shells and bacon are my standouts. Margarita flavors are plentiful and excellent on the rocks. Don't miss out on the specials which change seasonally. Monthly there are themed queso, guac, tacos and nachos that get pretty wild (don't miss the thanksgiving dinner Taco come November!). If you do decide to eat at the high top bar tables, you cannot seat yourself as is the case at other restaurants, you must go to the host stand first. I love Barrio and have been visiting the other locations for years. I was so excited when I found out that they were opening one closer to me! The meal as always was excellent. I always build my own taco(s) and change it up every time I'm in. These tacos are bigger than most so I'm usually full after two. I'm a sucker for the frozen pear margarita and the stoner queso. This new location is huge so I didn't even have to wait to be seated - huge crowds shouldn't be an issue! read more

I always love Barrio- the food lives up to the hype, the margaritas go down easy, and I love the menu. Tonight was exceptional. Tonight I tried the Willoughby location for the first time. My friend ordered queso to share. Why have I never tried the queso??!!! What a fool. It was so good. We devoured it, but before our chips could even empty, our waitress brought us another basket. I loved my shrimp taco with rice and lime cream sauce. And the green goddess tortilla is to die for! Really the best part about our night was our waitress.
