I haven't been to Barrio in 10 years. I remember the tacos being great the first time around, but what got me this time around was the build-your-own nachos. My friends and I went to Barrio around 7:30pm on a Thursday. The place looked exactly as I remembered it with the calaveras. Service was ok. Our server, Christina, was great, but the food took forever to be made. I couldn't believe how long it took to make nachos. We each customized our nachos. I made mine like a surf and turf with both steak and shrimp. Other toppings included diced onions and cilantro, rojo sauce, Barrio special sauce, and 3 additional cold cheeses on top of the melted queso blanco. I was highly disappointed with my nachos. The chips were thin and got soggy easily. They skimped on the proteins, and the shrimp was very salty. I should've skipped out on the cold cheeses, because they really overpowered the warmth and comfort from the queso blanco. Lastly, the cilantro was inexistent. read more

Was pretty much a disaster as soon as we arrived. It was before a Guardians game so I give them that but game started at 7 we didn't get our food til 830 and the orders were pretty messed up, server kept telling us she'd bring more chips then reappearing in 20 minutes without the chips of course, telling us 5 minute wait for our food, 20 minutes later telling us half our food was ready waiting for the other half so of course half was cold by the time we got it. One order was so burnt she said cook could remake it but we didn't want to wait another 2 hours said she'd take it off our bill of course she didn't she had to be reminded.My dish was very good but after all this I'd lost my appetite. One of the worst dining experiences I've had.. we came on a Saturday around 5 and was seated on the patio. Immediately after sitting down we were literally swarmed by wasps as well as everyone else. I'm not talking one or two, during the 1st 5 minutes we had at least 30 at our table. We asked to move to the other side and the hostess was rude but allowed it, saying there will still be bees there too. She wasn't wrong... was not able to enjoy at all. I wish they told us they had an issue before seating us, there were many other people switching tables and leaving too. The person who took our payment told us they sprayed the day before, but obviously didn't work. The service was also extremely slow, and food was not good. (They told us they were understaffed) I don't know what's up with the steak but it's absolutely disgusting - stay clear. The chicken was at least edible. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Absolutely terrible experience here. We did come late but definitely an hour before they closed. We came from a concert downtown and we were wanting somewhere to grab a quick bite. Next time I'll go to Taco Bell. All of our food came out incorrectly. When we told our server she responded with "that's not my fault it's the kitchens fault". Granted she didn't make the food but it's definitely her job to tell the kitchen they messed it up. She was rude honestly. Not a fan. I wanted chicken tacos. She said they only had one order of chicken left but had everything else. She Came back with the wrong tacos for the entire table (there were 5 of us). My boyfriend had to wait even longer for his steak tacos he ordered. Server came back and said they ran out of steak but now have chicken. So he changed his order to chicken tacos. The server came back and gave him shrimp tacos. I'm allergic to shrimp so if that mistake was made on my tacos that would have been really bad. The server still made us pay for our food after going back and forth about our orders. She offered a slight discount which we obviously took but we didn't eat any of our food. Manager was kissing up on some lady at the bar. Super unprofessional. He didn't come check on us once. I don't get why this place is so popular, it's pretty mid. The margs are weak and overly sweet. The tacos are average, every protein/sauce combination ends up tasting the same. A bar, not a taco bar. I want to be fair and say that if there was a 2.5 star rating, I would give it but I cannot justify 3 stars. Normally I wouldn't leave a review but there is no way this place deserves above 4 stars. I'll start by saying the food looks a lot better than it tastes and I tried literally one of everything (8 tacos total) and none of them impressed us in the slightest. For a place named "Barrio Tacos" these are more of experimental food truck tacos than Mexican or fusion tacos. It's more of a gimmick bar than a restaurant. The customer service was fine. The hostesses were friendly but I could tell did not want to be there. The server brought all the tacos at the same time which was fine but she didn't explain which was which but it was kind of fun figuring it out ourselves, I guess. We finished one taco, that tasted like a McDonalds Big Mac and the rest were left half eaten. The 'Hot As Cluck' taco was supposed to have Mac & Cheese but was in fact, no joke, plain noodles with shredded cheese (although the coleslaw and chicken on it were good). Finally when you get the check, the lowest gratuity option is 18% which normally I'd be happy to give but after being so disappointed I reluctantly selected it adding $11 to an already overpriced and overrated experience. Also, it's one of those awkward restaurants that brings the Point-Of-Sale tap to pay to your table so you sort of feel pressured to not leave a custom tip. I liked the crisp but i don't know if all of the flavors meshed in one bite El sully -- bomb. Probably more of a classic taco but I could've had a couple of these easy. Chorizo was great and that sauce should be kept secret. Bomba de tocinoa -- I believe I got 3 big bacon slices which made me quite pleased! Bacon was super good and had a great thickness. The aioli was a perfect sauce for this taco. La Tierra -- probably my least favorite of the four. The mushrooms meshed with the steak and I couldn't really taste them separately and it all just tasted mushy because of the mushroom. Before I head into the cons, they were a few pros of this place i'd like to get into. The ambiance is actually quite nice and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and seating. The pricing was also not too terrible with only $4.15 per taco and $10 for nachos or a bowl. Unfortunately, the soft shell tacos I ordered and the rest of my parties food came out cold, not even slightly warm. Not just the tortilla, even the meat, although still somehow completely cooked. Service was mediocre at best, but even that is tough to say. The waitress came to our table only once to refill our drinks of mostly just water and even when one of my party guests explicitly asked for a refill we never received it. The food was also just pretty bad. I wish I could say at least the food tasted okay but it seriously was not very good. I can't say I would recommend this place to any friends or family, or anybody else. read more

Visited the Cleveland area with a buddy for browns game. This was our favorite food establishment we visited. Very cool decor and we received great service. The free chips and salsa was great. Salsa may have the best flavor I've ever tasted in a red salsa. I ordered the cowboy taco which was a on the menu with tacos places together for you. And it was awesome. Great tasting taco. Maybe best I've ever had. My buddy created his own tacos with the grade school test looking menus and his number two pencil. He was a huge fan of his 3 tacos as well. Place was phenomenal and was very happy. I do have a complaint and concern but not enough to take away the five star as the covid era hopefully won't last forever. But here it is. Me and a buddy came and they only gave us one thing of salsa. So in the middle of a pandemic we have to share a salsa we both dipped in. Also the pencils and papers to pick Your tacos is risky with covid. I seen people leave the table Get bussed and people sit down at table And the pencils and papers that are touched all over and used aren't swapped out or sanitized. The staff member with the headband always makes my day. Always upbeat and friendly, dripping like he just shot an 80's MTV video (that's meant to be a compliment; if it's not, I'm sorry. Barrio was a decent dinner stop today. The place is fine. The service was good. We had a trainee waiter and both he and the experienced guy paired up to do a good job. The ordering experience is unique in that you custom order these tacos on a checklist tear sheet. There are a lot of options. They do have a chef recommended sheet, but as a vegetarian, there weren't a lot of prescribed options. Not to worry, there are plenty of veggie options in the checklist. Hmm... The couple of tacos I ordered were fine. I think the crispy shell I ordered dominated the taste of the things I got as fillings. Maybe I didn't customize the order well, but maybe it takes multiple visits to figure it out. Idk, but this was my only time in the area. So... I'd have to defer to another visit. First time in the land and I saw Barrio had a high rating. I'm a taco enthusiast and love to see how people can reimagine this iconic food. Little did I know my time and money would be wasted. I waited 40 minutes for 4 tacos that you would find in the secret menu of a Taco Bell. Felt like high school workers get bored and start throwing random things together. The Camaron Agrietado was definitely the saddest taco of the bunch. 5 shrimp, kale, barely any sauce, and ice cold white rice in a flour tortilla. Second worst was El Sully, the chorizo was overly salty and had a soy-like consistency, not the regular pork feel I'm used to. El Jefe Loco was actually ok and La Tierra is the only reason I'm giving this a 2nd star. Actually great flavor and absolutely stood out from the rest. As consolation for waiting an extremely long time, I received chips and salsa and it tasted exactly like Pace chunky salsa. I actually had never been here before today. We ordered queso before our food along with I believe jalapeño shots. The queso was queso blanco and it was good for what it was. The jalapeño tequila shots were really tasty. If you don't like spicy, I would not order these.... If you like tequila & spice, then order three like I did lol. I ordered three soft flour tacos, and honestly I should have done my review sooner so I could list what I ordered, but the final product was delicious. Luckily we came right when they opened and it was happy hour so of course the drinks didn't stop for a while. Our waitress was very attentive and kind which I always appreciate. The ambiance was so good and they had beautiful artwork everywhere and the staff was So kind and conversational! Food was good, loved the queso with the chips-that's a definite must! Yum, yum, yum, yum, YUMMMMMM! Barrio is so freakin' delicious! I've been twice now and have been extremely happy both times. There is definitely an obvious reason that Barrio is always so busy. With (at least) two locations in Cleveland, Barrio knows what they are doing. The tacos here are incredible. They are complex, rich flavors, and have a variety of textures. Their margaritas and cocktails are great as well! I'm a sucker for their double layer tacos with a soft shell on the outside and hard in the inside. Between the two, you can get queso, avocado, and or beans. So so yummy! As for toppings, they have a menu that you can order from, or even better, you can create your own! The ambience in this location is really fun. It's kinda cramped but it's fine. There are a few different dining rooms as well as a large outdoor patio. It is also very loud inside. The (non-traditional but) beautiful Day of the Dead decor is energizing. I love it. The service here is OK, nothing amazing but we definitely got the food we ordered and eventually, the drinks too.
