This Barrio location is in Tremont, a fun area of Cleveland. I like going to this Barrio because if there is a wait time, the time is easily passed by walking around the neat little area. Other than a great location the food is almost always always good. Tacos are $3 to start, and surprisingly, you can get a lot for $3. It's also cool that you can design your own taco! There are plenty of options for everyone, whether you are a meat-lover, vegetarian, vegan, etc, you can have a great experience. Be sure to try the mango habanero sauce, a personal fav! There are also plenty of appetizers and drinks available. You always get a free basket of chips and a free bowl of salsa, which are refillable at no charge. If you want to be fancy, you can order queso or guac to go with your chips, and maybe a fruity margarita to wash it down. Always try the seasonal appetizers and drinks! The Fall ones are delicious- if you haven't tried the backseat cider margarita, you are missing out! The one thing Barrio could improve is their customer service and general customer focus. read more

My group and I came here after we found out that a 'no name please' kitchen wasn't open after 8:45pm, and thankfully so because this place was amazingly good! Since 2015, I've heard people talk about it and tell me how great it is. I've even walked by it downtown and never tried it until now at this location. You can't even compare it to Chipotle -- the chicken and rice on the flour tortilla, and the chips with queso and guac were out of this world delicious! There's maybe two other places I've been to that are on-par or just above this place, but man, I'd come back here more often if I get the chance. Now I understand what I've been missing. The service was great too. The only thing was a bit confusing at first was the scantron ordering sheets, but the people in my group helped me figure it out since it wasn't clear to me initially. read more

Good vibes and margs. I've been going to this place for a while now. It is very college-budget friendly and overall good for your buck. I typically get one taco with the marinated steak and munch on the chips and salsa they serve. I'm not sure why, but I especially like their chips and salsa. The tacos are okay. If you're looking for authentic tacos, this is not the place to go to. But the tacos have some taste, but not my favorite. I usually like the margaritas, but the last time I went, the margaritas didn't seem like it had any alcohol, which makes me feel jipped of my money. The service of the place is usually okay. Servers sometimes forget that they need to check in on you, which gets annoying if you want to pay the check. The place has a cool theme to it, with skeletons on the walls and dim lighting. I really like Barrio, it's a great place to go for happy hour! The deal is til 7pm in the bar area and it's $1 off tacos and half price margaritas. Don't expect to find authentic Mexican tacos here but instead really tasty Americanized Mex. The tacos are large, you can make a meal out of 2, but I usually get 3 because there are so many choices and I can't choose just 2. The guacamole is on the small size but can still be shared. The service was ok but the food was terrible. The tacos had no flavor. My boyfriend and I bought 5 tacos 2 build your own and they all tasted the same with no flavor. We ordered a soft shell with chorizo queso and a hard shell and there was no chorizo in it and barely any queso. The food came out barely warm and the queso we ordered also with chorizo was barely warm with chips not salted except for ONE at the bottom. Absolutely horrible waste or money and WASTE of calories. Stopped by for Cleveland taco week and had a good experience. It was busier than expected for a Thursday night, but service was still prompt. As the weather was nice, we chose to sit in the back patio which had great vibes. For drinks, I settled on a pomegranate margarita with cayenne sugar rim. The sweet and spicy sugar rim was tasty and complemented the drink well. The margarita didn't taste much like pomegranate to me and I would order a different flavor next time. For apps, we decided on the crab rangoon queso which was one of their specials. It was a tad too sweet but overall a pretty good and unique dish. They had 3 tacos you could get for $2 each during taco week, which were the el jefe loco, el gringo and el vegano. I got one of each since you had to order a minimum of 3 tacos. My favorite was the el jefe loco as it had 2 types of protein and a good amount of toppings. My least favorite was the el gringo as it was just a basic taco with ground beef. For $2 however, it's hard to complain. I know some people hate on Barrio as it's not the most authentic place for tacos. I agree that you can get more traditional tacos elsewhere. We we're out of town visitors, and looked on Barrio is a pleasant Mexican taco establishment within walking distance of our airbnb. I enjoyed having established selections, but really liked the process to create my own taco. The possibilities were endless and I was able to select just what I wanted for the evening. The margaritas were quite tasty although it's still baffles me that establishments cannot make margaritas half Frozen and half on the rocks. When I do it myself I get one of each mix them in a pitcher and then pouring into two glasses. Doesn't seem like rock and science, but it bogles the creativity of many bartenders these days. read more

I used to enjoy the place when it first came out years ago but there has been a definite decline in food and service. Always understaffed, some servers are basically rude. The cost has escalated to levels where it is simply not worth the cost. Barely any steak at all in the "upgraded" taco. Always lukewarm, long waits and excessive costs make this a place I went to going from at least once a month to "Nah, I'll pass". Too bad. Looks like they might go the way of Melt. The hostess/manager (dark haired female w/glasses) was a complete BITC# and utterly unprofessional! Arrived around 12:30 today, Sunday 5/7 to meet family for lunch knowing Barrio has a fun atmosphere and decent food. My sister was talked to rudely and told there was a 45 minute wait for a table and the patio was not open due to impending rain (it never rained btw). They were short-staffed; however, this was NOT communicated to let patrons decide whether or not to wait. The bar had 3 empty seats but my sister was told someone's stuff was there so it was like "you can't sit there" even though the male bartender had it under control and was capable of serving us drinks 3 while we waited. Upon coming back from the bathroom after a few sips of my margarita, I approached said "manager" (in quotes bc she is NOT manager material) and asked why we couldn't be seated to have chips & salsa (with our drinks) since there were so many open tables in the dining room & we had waited about 1/2 hour at this point. I was told "I will tell you when and where you can sit". I was in complete shock! Is she trying to run Barrio OUT OF BUSINESS?? I get that she gets paid regardless of how she treats people but she is in the HOSPITALITY industry, right? And if they don't have customers, will she have a job? I was appalled and as we sat at the bar finishing our drinks, we had the discussion about staying or leaving (my vote was to obviously RUN (not walk) out the door). We were then called saying our table is ready by this same abhorrent person. I said to her in a very nice way "I understand you're short-staffed but I have never been spoken to in such a way like that" and before I even got it all out of my mouth, she turned on her heels and walked away from me! Again shocked someone could treat a patron like this, let alone another human being! Needless to say we told the server who approached after about 7 minutes that we were not staying and the reason why. She apologized to us and when I said this woman's attitude screwed her out of potential tips & I asked who the manager is, she confirmed she is THE MANAGER!!?? I will NEVER go to this Barrio location again thanks to this employee and her despicable treatment of patrons. FIRE HER! She is in the wrong line of work and obviously has never been trained to treat people with respect or dignity. I've been to Barrio before, but I think I like this location better than the Ohio City one - it's a little better laid out, both for seating and to make sound not travel as much. It was still loud, which could get annoying with large groups, but was fine for two people to still have a conversation. (But if you wanted to turn down the music a touch, that would be great.) The food was excellent - I just picked a few tacos off the chef's menu, and neither was disappointing, even though the special had maybe a few too many flavors going on. But it was a good meal, and happy hour pricing meant we walked out with a pretty cheap bill. Service could have been more attentive, but was very friendly, and our food came out pretty quickly after ordering. read more

If you are looking for real mexican tacos then this is not t , but if you're looking for a very interesting twist on Mexican food you MUST come here . Food was terrible. We ordered six tacos and we ended up feeding them to the dogs because they were inedible. The shrimp taco looked like it had coleslaw inside and everything was thrown together. The gringo taco looked and tasted worse than Taco Bell- again all Thrown together. We ordered chips and salsa and only got a giant container of corn- no salsa for two large bags of chips. Omg absolutely LOVE this restaurant. First off they observe social distancing and we sat outside. Andrew, our server, was incredible kind and knowledgeable. You get to pick your ingredients for your tacos!! So many options. Just $3 per taco! Also had the margarita Perfecto which was amazing!!! I had two lol . Totally worth $12. Barrio is outstanding. If you have visited you know how good their tacos are, serious culinary skill served at a reasonable price. Each location is a bit different in decor, but they all have the Day of the Dead theme going. Once in you select exactly what you want using the order pads. I always favor the fish of the day, the mushroom and even the marinated tofu are really good. I also really enjoy the fresh crisp chips and the zesty salsa with a perfect level of heat. What I have to talk about here is the Sunday Brunch; in addition to the regular menu they add some special items that are outstanding. The Crab Cake taco takes a well seasoned patty of sweet crab meat with enough bread crumbs to hold it together. Layered with avocado, a zesty slaw and a well balanced remoulade you have one of the better crab cakes in town. What I would not miss is the Barrio French Toast Bowl, a hearty serving of the lushest bread pudding you will find topped with whipped cream. Just sweet enough to hit the taste buds, with hints of cinnamon and vanilla, this is extremely satisfying. When you hit some of the crunchy caramelized bits on top you will be in heaven. If you like Mexican, Tacos or are just seeking some great food at a reasonable price you have to go to Barrio. read more

First time to Barrio happened to be during COVID. My friend and I requested outdoor seating which I would recommend. The indoor seating was closer spaced with ~5x5 ft plastic barriers between each table. While the barriers were a very nice touch and would probably block any direct sneeze/cough, i didn't think it would stop any aerosolized droplets from floating over/around them. You can set your germaphobia meter yourself but I would say outside is the safer option since the ventilation and space is much better. Despite COVID, the place still had a ~10-15 min wait but they do have the option of texting you when your table is ready so you can wait wherever you want. We have a decent server during our meal who wasn't bending over backwards but didn't ignore us and keep our drinks refilled, wouldn't call it bad service by any means. If I come back here, it's definitely going to be for the margaritas which were strong, cold, and creatively flavored. The food itself was pretty decent but the tacos felt like they missed the mark in terms of texture and flavors. For one, I'm personally a fan of street tacos using soft corn tortillas but they only carry flour and hardshell corn tortillas here. Second, while they use many creative non-traditional ingredients such as cola-marinated steak, smoked cheddar, and bacon, I felt these were more distracting than anything. Rather than show-casing the development of a few excellent flavors, there tends to be a tendency to layer on tons of strong flavors and hope they are balanced. The cooking itself wasn't particularly impressive as many tacos ended up being very wet with the proteins lacking a lot of definition (e.g. meat mash). Admittedly i'm being a little harsh as their food wasn't bad, just not very authentic and definitely not meeting the hype from the yelp reviews. If you want a chain with more traditional flavors, I would go to bakersfield. If you want a more so-cal mexican experience then I would look for a hole-in-a-wall. If you want bomb margaritas then come to Barrio. read more

I love their monthly specials, they're unique and always delicious! The curry queso this month was incredible. There's usually a wait but it's definitely worth it to me. I seem to be in conflict with the masses on this one. When I first told a friend that I'd never been to Barrio, he was shocked and we made plans soon after. I've now been a couple of times and have nothing but great things to say about the Lakewood location, but this one seems to come up short. The tacos are good. Very good, even, but again, what I've gotten at this location (even when ordering the same thing, like El Jefe) hasn't been as good as the other one I've been to. The service has also been good. Why three stars then? A couple of reasons: 1. Everyone raves about the margaritas, but the ones I had were very weak. If I have a glass of wine, I'll feel it; two glasses and I'm tipsy. I had three (three!) margaritas here and didn't feel a thing. If I had three margaritas at Bakersfield, I'd be on the floor. What gives? 2. On my last visit, we ordered the Three Amigos appetizer sampler to go with our chips. We chose the elote, the special guacamole, and the pineapple salsa. The elote was fine (a bit funky, but I think it was supposed to be). The special guac had cranberries and jalapeños and was really good. The pineapple salsa had a funky taste to it. I assumed this was just some hipster trend and that it was supposed to taste that way, but then I was sick for a day and a half after. I'd think a place with a minimum half hour wait no matter the time of day would run through salsa so quickly that it wouldn't have time to go bad, and I'm not here to give an establishment a bad name...all that said, that salsa was not okay. I really wasn't expecting much because there is so much hype about this place, and sometimes restaurants are more famous for their name than their food, but Barrio Tremont was honestly extremely delicious. Every taco off the chef's menu was amazing, and my build-your-own taco was superb. The tacos were varied, creative, and outstanding with a lot of fun options, the ambience was very chill and laid back, and I can't say enough about the bartender Andrew and how welcome he made me feel. I came in to just grab food to go back to my AirBnB, but he was like "Cool man, want a drink while you wait?" Coincidentally, I did. Then I asked about their chips and salsas and he gladly volunteered to get me some while I waited for my tacos.
