Barrio is slipping further down the hill. It was once such a vibrant, zesty, and fun experience. I've gone here for years. My last few visits were just awful. Terrible quality, service issues, long wait. It's nothing like the original Barrio. Like I'd love to support local and Barrio, but it's now consistently a horrible experience. This time, I arrived during the early afternoon when the place was almost empty. Ordered queso blanco, sassy pineapple drink, and tacos. Sassy pineapple was extremely diluted equivalent to drinking water. I don't know how serving something so watered down is acceptable. I waited patiently for tacos and received unexpected tacos - 3 instead of 4, hard shell instead of soft shell, very soupy. I don't know how the order derailed because there were only a handful of people in the establishment. The order was most certainly not mine, but they never found the original owner. The wait staff was nowhere to be found so when they eventually arrived, I just asked to pay out and refused the order of tacos. There was no "sorry" or offer to fix it. I went next door and supported another restaurant. When I announced to them I'll be doing that, they were very supportive. Barrio is just a huge disappointed. Wait time and service friendliness improved a tad bit but the quality is just awful. No offer for service recovery, no attentiveness, wrong orders and terrible drinks. I won't be dining here again. I'm sorry to see the establishment deteriorate and hope the ownership improves the experience. Cedar Fairmount has plenty of quality restaurants. I'm sorry to say that Barrio isn't one. Very good restaurant, only negative I could say is when we walked in they had zero customers, and it took way too long for us to get seated. Also they have a little thing that looks like back in the day to fill out your test for school don't like that but it is what it is. This place is definitely hit or miss. It's our work lunch go-to but service and food are a toss-up each time. Get the queso, it's straightforward in flavor, liquid cheese nothing fancy but manages to stay liquid throughout your meal and I'm here for it. If you want added texture and don't mind the carbs, get the stoner queso, with a scoop of their rice in the cheese. Chips are unlimited (plus) and fried in house (plus). For any other millennials, be prepared to revisit our trusty scantron, as placing your order requires a form and pencil. Fill out your order as you custom-select your taco choices/combinations. I've mastered my order but as mentioned, if it comes out as epic as it's placed is a question every time. For the tortilla, I prefer the green goddess (soft flour tortilla "glued" to a hard taco shell with queso and guac). Preferred fillings include pico de Gallo and for proteins, the braised short rib or the chorizo. Sometimes your food is hot, sometimes there isn't enough fillings, and sometimes your chorizo looks like a meatball. The restaurant is relaxed with sports on tv and loud punk alt music on. When it's good-it's good, the place will have you going back trying to mimic the last time service was on point and food was hot but a couple let downs in a row will have you looking elsewhere till your cravings come back. read more

After waiting for over and hour for my to go order and spending $80 at the bar. I was told by Brett T the manger there was nothing he can do in the way of compensation. Then when I asked to see the manger by the girl that brought out my foor I was told to lower my voice. Which just escalated the situation. Why would a manger send another employee send someone out to speak to a customer already angry. Thats shows his ability as a manger. After being surrounded by at least 5 employees in an attempt to intimidate that didn't work and made me even more angry nothing was done to resolve the situation. Loud and noisy, but unless you are looking for a romantic evening, this place can suit your style. Tacos are either predesigned with some creative ingredients that compliment each other, or you create your own spicy, sweet or savory result. We started with the Chorizo Queso which could have been served much warmer and with much more meat...it was ok. The chips are those thick ones with no salt, purely a preference if you like them. I don't. My soft flour tacos were filled but not with much of the protein I selected. More the veggie options. The staff is genuinely perky and positive, apologizing when necessary so perhaps I will return to give them another shot. My family and I ordered take out from Barrio recently and the quality was abysmal. After being told the order would be ready in 15 minutes it ended up being close to an hour. This wouldn't have been a major issue, however, the food was completely cold when we received it. The tortillas were soaked through and the fillings themselves were cold. We ended up composting the majority of the order. The plus side was that the manager was very understanding and refunded the meal. Our nephew pointed us to this place and we were happy he did. We got here early enough on a Friday to get the happy hour pricing for both the margaritas and the tacos. We sat at the bar where this pricing was in force (I guess the regular dining room doesn't have this special pricing). I tried a couple of unusual flavored margaritas - which I no longer remember but I do know they were good. They had a really big selection. When it came to food I did not create my own taco but I had one of their specials with pork belly and the other was bacon focused (see a theme here?). I liked them both. My wife liked her taco selections too. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive despite being crazy busy. I am glad we got here early because by the time we left it was packed. read more

I love barrio ever since they opened their first location and I would pray that they would open one closer and indeed they did! For me when I can't make up my mind it's always barrio! My husband and I stopped in and were pleasantly surprised. We were there for brunch in a Saturday. He raved about the cheddar jalapeño biscuit with chorizo gravy. He also enjoyed the sangria. I took a sip and found it to be a little sweet for my taste... but I thought my margarita was also a tad too sweet. The chili lime salt rim really upped my margarita a notch. I created two tacos. I loved the innards but my poor corn tortillas started falling apart quickly. It appears they needed to be heated up a little more before being filled with goodies. I did require my food to be gluten free so I don't know if the non heated/minimally heated tortillas were to avoid cross contamination or not but it could use improvement. Welcome back!!!! Barrio in Cleveland Heights reopened this week with new precautions, new staff, and new energy! As with lots of businesses adjusting to new safety precautions (which we are all very appreciative of), I finally got my Barrio Tacos fixed after so long! For a quick, relatively inexpensive taco bar with an awesome vibe, I'm satisfied! They have new staff and training new workers - who were super friendly. At the bar, they have clear plastic barriers separating parties which was a nice touch. All the workers wore masks and they offered hand sanitizers to customers coming in. My favorite which they still offer is happy hour from 4-7pm! 1/2 off margaritas, $1 off tacos, and $1 off beers! My 3 custom tacos were perfect with regards to how I ordered. Only complaint was that my chicken taco was a bit dry, but chicken in most tacos tend to be like that. As they continue to smooth out all the technicalities of reopening and the necessary precautions, I will be back and will bump the stars up! Support your local businesses and workers too! read more

Tres Amigos: Overpriced for Decreased Portion Sizes It is $16.25 for the Tres Amigos, which allows you to select 3 dips with chips. I've gotten takeout of this in the past many times, but the portion sizes of the dips have shrunk immensely. They are 3.5 oz cups. They give a generous amount of chips but it's way out of proportion for the little cup sizes that look like they could be a side cup size. The 3 dips are barely enough for one person. I'm not sure if it's also this small for dining in. Regardless, it would've been cheaper to get a side of queso for $2, the salsa roja for $0.50, and a side of guacamole for $2, plus a few orders of chips. Literally could've gotten like 2 side portions of each of those dips (assuming each side portion is a 2oz cup) plus chips and it would've been more food and better value. The salsa roja was also filled 2/3 of the way. For the cheapest house salsa that is complimentary for dine-in and $2.50 as an app portion, I would want the 3.25oz cup to be full. This is definitely not worth paying for. Neither the online nor order online menu specified the decreased sizes or how much you get. If I had known, I would not have ordered this and would've just gotten the three dips separately. I would rather go to Chipotle at this point since I think their guac is terrific and it is a much better value. read more

While I love barrio in general, this review is for barrio catering. Recently I had catered from barrio for a party of approximately 25 people. The process for catering with barrio was unbelievably simple. Their catering menu is available online, so I emailed them my order only 3 days prior to the date. I put the specifications in the email including time of pick up/location and any modifications I wanted. The staff responded promptly with a quote. We corresponded a little with further questions, and within 24 hours my order was finalized. On pick up of the food, the staff helped me load everything into my car. Everything was perfectly packaged including extra utensils, bowls, napkins, etc. they even provided warmers for the food and detailed instructions on how to reheat the food if needed. Overall, the process was incredibly simple, the staff were very pleasant, and barrio made the catering process very easy. Would definitely recommend their catering service! read more

Barrio is a decent spot for tacos and margaritas. I recommend going on taco Tuesday, when there are deals on both. They have many different marg flavors, and a selection of different salts/sugars for the rim - I have enjoyed every combo I've tried so far, with the blood orange margarita with chili lime salt being one of my favorites! Tacos are also yummy, but often overstuffed and messy to eat. Another caveat is that it gets very busy on tuesdays, and you can only get happy hour prices in certain areas of the restaurant (meaning you will likely either have to wait for a spot or end up paying a little more) Overall I am still a fan, though, and would recommend trying it out sometime! read more

My daughter left her visalign retainers at the Barrio restaurant in Cleveland Heights on Wednesday, December 27th. We returned an hour after eating and met with the manager, Mark, to see what could be done...frankly holding low expectations that we would recover her retainers. Mark was awesome. He took us up to his office and looked at the video from our table and saw that the retainers had been thrown in the trash...what happened next...you guessed it...Mark identified the bag the retainer was in, hopped into the dumpster, found the bag, dug through it and returned 10 minutes later with the retainer. What a great relief. You don't find people like Mark around these days...he went beyond the call of duty and made our issue, his issue. We are grateful to Mark. Our experience at the restaurant on Friday afternoon over lunchtime was less than desirable. The bartender was very rude, very non-customer friendly, and appeared put out when we had questions regarding drinks and the menu. The chicken was grizzly and very low-grade, as was the shrimp which had no taste. The chips came broken into little pieces, which any good server would've recognized immediately and not served to a customer. The queso was cold.
