I usually love coming to this Barrio Queen for dinner, but this time that I came I ate one of the carnitas tacos for happy hour and there was a HUGE BONE in the taco. I almost broke my tooth biting into my taco. Obviously there is nothing on the menu that says tacos have bones, but when I told the manager Reyna. She was incredibly condescending and rude telling me that I just should have expected them to be there, and she really did not seem sorry at all. Overall the food was good, but the customer service was terrible and will not be coming back. Also after reading the reviews it seems like there is a pattern of bad customer service, and just general disrespect to customers. Was there with a small group on a Saturday night. I noticed most of the other restaurants in the Marketplace were really busy, not so much a Barrio Queen. After dinner there found out why, food was just okay and the service was pretty bad. Waitress seemed like she could have cared less about her table. What we ordered: - Barrio bowl with an over hard egg ($14) - Trio mole enchiladas ($18) - house chips and salsa (free, baby) PROS: - The salsa they serve with the chips is fuego literally. It is spicy but delicious and clearly made in-house, as it it was fresh and refreshing. - The moles featured in the trio enchilada dish were some of the richest and most flavorful I've ever tasted! - The chicken in the barrio bowl was also brimming with flavor! The bowl is also a healthier alternative to standard Mexican fare, so this is a guilt-free option for those on a diet. - They have a bomb happy hour from 2-5 pm during the week that has extensive drink options and 8 different food options. Anything but basic! CONS: - The enchiladas, while delicious, did not sit well in my body after being consumed. Went with a friend while on my first trip to Phoenix. Parking was convenient. We had about a 15 min wait for outside. Our server came over fast with water and was friendly. I ordered the queen enchiladas with chicken. Has a Tamale appetizer with my friend and had this mango drink. I got tres leche to go so will update once I have it. The Tamale was really good. I enjoyed my enchiladas with rice and veggies. It has a white sauce. I added a little salsa for more flavor. Overall it was good. The drink reminded me of mango and tomato juice. It was sweet and salty at the same time. I probably wouldn't get it again just because I prefer just sweet drinks and the sauce in it was a bit much for me. Great experience. Nice and spacious. Colorful decor. Great Mexican food and delicious margaritas. My favorite one is the Hibiscus Blueberry Margarita. Came in around 9:00pm and they close at 10:00pm on a Monday night. Wasn't busy at all. Ate inside because it's July and it was 106 degrees outside. read more

Jose Angel Q was our server his warmth and hospitality made our experience very memorable and we were all smiles when we left. The food was exceptional. The blue corn tortillas in the premium tacos held the short rib beef, pork, and shrimp nicely, and the side sauces really enhanced everything. The pork roasted inside the banana leaves was very tender, and the flour tortillas and dipping sauce was excellent. The margaritas were exotic with mango and other unique flavors. A friend recommended Barrio Queen to us for dinner while the hub and I were in town visiting. It's located near target in a large shopping plaza. The inside is beautiful and trendy. We were able to snag some seats at the bar, but I'd recommend a reservation for weekends as it was pretty busy. We're sad we missed the happy hour because it looked amazing, but we still got some tasty drinks & food. My favorite drink was the spicy cucumber margarita. It had the perfect about of spice with a fresh twist. Food wise I really enjoyed my tacos and two was just the right amount. I also liked their chips & salsa. I do wish the salsa was more spicy, but still a great flavor. This place does not disappoint for a delicious dinner! It'd also be great for a group event or birthday. read more

We asked the hostess if we could sit somewhere, away from the kitchen. The hostess tried to sit us right next to the kitchen. Half of the restaurant inside and outside was open. So we asked if we could sit outside. Again, the hostess refused to seat us away from the kitchen and offered us the same spot. We were told there were no servers outside which was not true. We saw 3 of them as we walked out serving people on the patio. I'm not sure why we were treated so poorly, but we did not stay to try the food. read more

Barrio Queen is labeled as Mexican cuisine but I think the food itself is more Americanized. The food was still good but it did lack flavor, spices and the love you normally get with more authentic Mexican restaurants. Besides that, the service was quick despite being busy. The ambiance was very inviting and fun. It's a good place to eat at if you want to feel welcomed.
