Always a good time at Barrio and the Kent location is no different! Awesome selection of tacos and tequila! I had several tacos on this visit, and every one was well put together and tasted amazing. The Carolina reaper sauce was very flavorful and incredibly hot, which was exactly what I was looking for. The service was awesome, even though the place was packed. I was dining alone, and still got the same amount of attention as everyone else. My server had brown curly hair and I cannot for the life of me remember her name, but if the service is like that every time I go to Barrio, some of the places in Kent will need to step heir game up. read more

We've been to multiple locations so we are familiar with the chain. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were great. What was not great was how dirty everything was. Sticky menus, and the floor in the kitchen was disgusting. I could see it from my seat at the bar and it appeared to not have been swept from the day before. For 2 hours I watched 20 employees repeatedly walk over broken chips without even looking down or getting a broom. Despite that we do like the tacos so we put in an order. An hour and 15 minutes after putting in our order we still had no tacos and no explanation as to why. I'm not sure anyone would have even noticed that we didn't get our food. Definitely a great spot and very popular amongst the local students of Kent State. Service was great and the food and margaritas were top notch! If I had to say anything negative at all, I'd just say it gets very crowded almost any day of this week (which isn't their fault, it's just a popular location) and I wasn't a big fan of the queso. Not a steak or chicken breast, but tacos from a prepared list of ingredients.... And boy was I disappointed to find the skirt steak wasn't even hot!! Why don't you say "chilled" on the handy dandy order form? I wouldn't have ordered it. But the skirt steak was the tastiest of my 3 tacos. The $1 rice add-on was a catsup cup of sticky cold white Uncle Ben's... Really? It's a "hip" place to look at, but no one will wait that long for mediocre or below average food. If your kitchen time is also slow, at least have the courtesy to present me food that says "wow, I'm worth the wait". Ambience is not good... Great place for fun tacos! My husband and I came out about a week after opening and had a blast! We did have to wait about 45 minutes for a table, but there was seating outside to accommodate us while we waited. Our server, Michaela, was very attentive to our needs and answered any questions we had regarding the different options for tacos. She recommended the monthly specials which were very good! I enjoyed my taco with the "stoner" shell that has a hard shell, soft shell, queso and chorizo inside. This location opened when I was 7 months pregnant and I told my husband we couldn't go until I could have a margarita! We finally went and I'm happy to say this Barrio was of the same quality of the Lakewood one, which was always a place we'd seek out when in the Cleveland area. Having one in our backyard basically now is so nice! We went during brunch on a Sunday but weren't in the mood for brunch food and ordered off of the el Jefe menu (we've tried to build our own before and always get overwhelmed because there's so many toppings and we end up making combinations that don't go!) we each got 2 tacos and also went ahead and got the dip trio with Tuscan guacamole, pineapple guacamole, and buffalo chicken queso. Tuscan guacamole is one of my favs and I've tried to recreate it at home to no avail. They were out of blue cheese for the buffalo queso though, which left it a tad too spicy with no cooling component for my taste. My husband got the Barrio marg on the rocks and it was the perfect classic marg. I got the Jade Olmec and while I could taste the mint, that was about the only flavor it had. This entire Barrio experience was an extreme disappointment. I have been to other Barrio locations and always look forward to eating there. We sat down at 7:00 pm and placed our orders. After about an hour of waiting for our meals, we asked our server how much longer it would be. She replied that they haven't started making our food and that there were still tickets ahead of ours. We proceeded to wait another 20 minutes, all while watching three other tables seated after us receive their food. When we finally got our meals around 8:20 pm, they were incorrect and extremely subpar compared to other Barrio locations. Our server was not very helpful or apologetic about the situation, and I had to eat my entire meal with no beverage. Decided on the Kent one as it was close to home and the rest of our group for my son's 12 birthday. I did call ahead to ask if we could do reservations. They do not. They did say I could come in 30 minutes early to get our seats (for 14 people). Once I arrived, they said we needed half of our guests to be there in order to seat us. We had to wait for nearly 30 minutes for them to show up in order to be seated, so it was useless to show up early. Would have been a helpful tip on the phone. The waitress was one of the least polite people I could imagine. You can order cheese dip and guac, which we did for our group. The menu you must use a pencil and paper to custom order your taco. For a kid, this can be intimidating. It would be nice if they let you know what is spicy or not. Onto the food. Tacos were very good. I also ordered a side of rice. Thinking - $1.50, I should get some good rice as a side. NOPE. It is a little itty bitty side of rice. Like a thimble full. Not very good. Salsa, bland. Cheese sauce, you could get anywhere. Guacamole - very good. DRINKS: I had the pineapple marg. Very Very GOOD. So good, I had 2. Billing: Watch your bill. They messed up each of our bills and had to have the manager come over and fix it. The waitress was aloof and didn't really care. The manager apologized and fixed them. If you go, go in in a small group. Order tacos and margaritas. Inspect your bill. My family just went to Barrio tonight... we were excited about getting one in Kent because my sister eats at some of the other locations and she really likes it. We don't plan to go back. We started out with some very good guacamole, but 45 min and 4 baskets of chips later, we finally asked for the food to go because we were so tired of waiting and honestly no longer very hungry. We considered just canceling our order and leaving, but still were looking forward to trying the food. 15 more minutes it finally came out and when I got home it was totally cold... This location is a happening place! They are really trying hard to work the kinks out. I noticed lots of servers working very hard and fast to get everyone what they need. The tacos are so fresh and the flavors are amazing. We got the 3 appetizer dips. Just delicious! Hubby really likes the add bacon selection. I prefer the shrimp tacos with the pineapple salsa. I am not one to typically leave negative reviews, but I have been to this location twice in the past few weeks and was served by the same bartender and I feel like something needs to be said. First, I will say that the food is always great, but the service was horrible. Both times I was served by the same bartender. I did not get his name, he was arrogant. The first time being served by him made me and my friends feel completely uncomfortable as he tried to hit on us the whole time but was not getting the hint that we were not interested. The second time was even worse. His constant request for my phone number made me want to rush out of there without evening finishing my meal. I like Barrio. Their queso is yummy and 90% of the time their chips are spot on! The first few times we went, we tried different things and wrote down what we liked and didn't like. Now, we just sit down and bubble fill our way to taco yumminess! I like their house margarita on the rocks with salt and they have some rotating beers on tap. Overall, I think the food is terrific. Sometimes the service is hit or miss. And the music is always loud. But, I like Barrio. I'd give them a 4.5 but that isn't possible on this rating app. read more

We loved Barrio the last time we visited a little over a year ago. But today the food was a disappointment. The pico was very bland (basically just tomatoes and onion). The steak on my taco was served cold, like straight from the fridge. The halibut on the fish taco was dry and over cooked. All of the sauces just tasted like straight mayo instead of cilantro lime etc. The drinks and service were both good, but we were there for the tacos which were mediocre at best. Let me start with saying I love Barrio. I have been to many of their location and have enjoyed their food and drinks. At this location I didn't have a pleasant experience. I attempted to dine at this location first week it opened. It was an hour wait. I didn't mind. I walked around and came back to check the status of the queue. I waited in line but there was another host in the floor helping. I went to her to ask as everyone else was. She totally ignored me as if I wasn't even there. But we made eye contact and she knew I was there to ask for help. I assumed she didn't see me (I was standing right next to her) she looks at me and continues to assist other (white) patrons. I excused myself three times and she continued to ignore. Finally she asked my (white) friend if they needed help. I told her I was trying ask her what the status was with our reservation. She continued to talked to my friend and totally ignored me as I didn't exist. Maybe because I am brown. I hate to pull the race card but even my friend agreed as she watched the whole thing. Will I stop going to Barrio? No. Do I hate Barrio? No. Just disappointed. read more

I have been excited to try Barrio! I was very happy about the Kent location being so close to home. We had to wait an hour for a table, which we expected for a new restaurant. Our queso was good, but lukewarm. After 50 minutes, we got our tacos and they were COLD. The manager was kind enough to have them remade. The second batch were warmer than the first, but still the coldest tacos I've ever eaten. In fact, the restaurant itself is cold. Be sure to bring a jacket! We may come back in a few months when the opening growing pains have softened, but for over $15 a person and 2 hour wait, it certainly wasn't worth the time or money. read more

I ordered takeout today at 4:30 and it was busy but nothing compared to the Tremont Barrio that I frequent often and love. I was so excited to go to the Kent Barrio. So then it's 5:00 and no order... getting antsy waiting thirty minutes for tacos. 5:15, and it's been 45 minutes so I ask about my order. The two girls up front said it'll be an hour and I was concerned because I didn't want to wait that long for tacos. I asked if it was coming up soon and got a pessimistic "I don't know". I said ok. She said "I can check" and I said yes. This girl goes and comes back and STARTS HELPING OTHER CUSTOMERS. HELLO?? Then she's back at the host stand texting. I said "is there an update?" And then she said she'd check. Omg... this girl is driving me crazy. She came back and said "well the food orders are going down the line so I think so" and I said "ok can I have a refund??" And they said "I don't know." Not only that-- they both lowered to below the counter and started whispering. Like this was so awkward. Then they came back up and said "well ask the manager". Five minutes later the manager comes out with my order. He was very kind and apologized for the delay. I appreciated that. But the food was cold. The behavior of those girls at the host stand today was worse than a couple of awkward middle school girls. How hard is it to just ask the manager long ago??
