This review was specific to my experience at a barrio food truck, but it's not my first brush with barrio so I don't feel bad letting this review stand for my other experiences. I ordered three black bean tacos sanz dairy (no cheese or creme). These things were slopping wet and flavorless other than the piercing flavor of vinegar. The beans, flavorless. The corn, somehow flavorless. The tomatoes, pure water. Idk what I paid $10 for. The guac was good, as I could tell it was seasoned with cumin, maybe paprika but the chips had maybe 2 granules of salt total. The employees were great though. read more

I'm from Columbus area, I heard it was like Condado taco and expected the same. Which I agree, the menu is very similar. I have gotten take off 3 times now. They have other things on the menu but the main attraction is the build your own taco. The cost to change it from a taco to a bowl is an additional $3 which is a bit much. Anyway, all 3 orders had toppings missing from my spouses and I taco and/or bowl. Unsure how the order was incorrect every time. Still able to eat it beside one time 1 of the tacos has a very spicy sauce I definitely didn't order. Other items just had an item missing so still able to eat it just didn't enjoy it as much. Bro how y'all gonna forget the meat on a taco, i straight up ate salsa with bread. it's not like it was one taco, it was all three that had meat and some had double. Got me feeling like ben 10 without his watch, and when i see a worker i can't promise words will be nice. Food was good. $4 a taco isn't horrible but when they upcharge you for RICE that's a scam. Got chicken and rice with some veggies on my tacos. They classify rice as a protein and charge you $1 extra per taco. Place is a scam and never coming back. read more

Barrio is a taco-staple for us because of their many NEO locations and their consistent, adaptable menu. We love that you can easily make just about anything on the menu GF with a tweak or two, and the prices are good for the value. We went to the Kent location on Sunday evening - the place was busy but not packed. They told us there was a 30 min wait - I'm guessing this was because they were short staffed, which is fine - everyone is. We were able to get a seat directly at the bar, but it took almost 15 minutes before the bar tender acknowledged us. I'd usually be understanding of this, but the bartender was just texting on her cell phone and very slowly doing things like washing a glass, putting in an order, etc. When she finally acknowledged us, we were able to out in our entire order, but we had to keep grabbing her throughout the meal for refills, straws, etc. The food was awesome. My husband had the two monthly taco specials and loved both. I did a pulled pork bowl with slaw, cheddar cheese, and crack sauce - my go to- and it was great, as always. We ordered the elote queso, also a winner. So food-wise, it was excellent and I recommend highly. In fact, Barrio catered our wedding, we love it so much. Service-wise, things could have been better. But given the staffing issues everywhere, I think they're doing what they can. Hopefully someone speaks to this girl about customer service though. read more

I've had Barrio quite a bit over the last couple of years. The tacos are amazing and their Bulletproofs are even better! I'm giving it a 3 star though because the service is not the best. It's a busy place, but even on days the restaurant isn't busy it still takes a good while to get the food. Other than that the staff is all friendly and it's a dope restaurant. read more

We usually sit at the bar to avoid waiting for a table. The food takes a long time at this location, but we just expect it, snack on chips and order drinks. I don't think it's been longer than an hour as others have said, but I don't usually watch the time. The food is delicious and makes up for the longer wait time in my opinion. Bamboozled - When I ate at Barrio Cleveland Heights it was excellent. Unfortunately I did not have the same experience in Kent. First of all on the menu guacamole is listed as $2 as a side. I did not see nor did I want to spend $8 on the guacamole. In Cleveland $2 means $2 not $8. Well the guacamole was too peppery so I sent it back. The $2 huge portion guacamole was excellent in Cleveland. They still brought out a what they called $2 side of guacamole and charged me for it. I asked the server about it and she explained that I sent back the $8 appetizer - but still brought out a $2 guacamole. I have never been to a restaurant where I sent back food and they brought out more of the food I sent back. The food tasted like the chef just kept adding pepper to everything including the guacamole or maybe did a oops just poured the whole pepper shaker in there maybe no one will notice. So. Much. Meh. Not sure what's up with their salsa, but it's not great. Not the best way to start off dinner. The chips were fine, but they're...chips. I ordered one $5 La Tierra taco and one $4 Camarone Agrietado (seriously, could a Spanish speaking person have checked the grammar on that one?). The La Tierra taco was pretty bad. It was drenched in sauce, which overpowered every other item in the taco. If I hadn't read that it had steak, mushrooms, and caramelized onions, I would never have guessed what was in it. I tasted sauce and bacon. The shrimp taco was edible, even though the shrimp were more gray than pink. I also ordered a $1.50 side of black beans, which was literally about two tablespoons of beans in a tiny plastic cup. A buck and half for a couple of tablespoons of underseasoned beans? Nope. My partner ordered two build your own tacos, which she didn't even finish. She wasn't thrilled with either of them but hey, she made that bed herself. Her $1 side of underseasoned rice was also a few tablespoons in a small plastic cup. Plastic cups. Disposable baskets. Seriously, in this day and age where people are trying to cut down on single use plastics (and entire regions are trying to de-incentivize people and businesses from using them at all), Barrio comes barreling in with all of their landfill-increasing trash. Sure, I'd expect that if I'm ordering takeout, but not when I'm enjoying a sit-down dinner. Hell, even their menus are single use...they'er the ones that you need to fill out yourself because apparently the servers are too lazy or stupid to write it down themselves or remember what you ordered. So yeah, I doubt I'll be going back. That will give me time to speculate as to what restaurant will be going into this space once people realize they don't want to pay for overpriced, mediocre food. If you want tasty, affordable tacos you're better off hitting up Burnside BBQ on Tuesdays or heading out to Taqueria la Loma or Paleteria La Fresa on Darrow Rd in Akron, all of which offer twice the quality and flavor for half the price. read more

What a disappointment... had been to many other locations (Cedar, Tremont, downtown) and two weeks into their opening... the experience was a disaster. 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon for my sisters birthday lunch... with a 45 minute wait to be seated (to be expected with a new restaurant, but clearly the product of an ill prepared kitchen staff), 25 minute wait for drinks, hour plus wait for food. Waiter was apologetic but aloof. At the hour mark he offered "gauc on the House" but after 4 baskets of chips that was a no go... shortly after he brought basket # 5... I hope they can work these kinks out, but this location is no where near the quality / professionalism of the other locations. At the - hour 9 minute mark our waiter let's us know that they're running a "35 minute ticket time" and "he's sorry" offers to box our order to go. An hour and 17 minutes most orders coming out are to go... everyone is conceding to defeat at this point. An hour and 22 minutes our food hits the table... everything is cold. The hype has been out of control for this Barrio location and they are clearly still sorting things out and handling the huge demand of hungry college-town folks but my experience was overall quite good and tasty tacos were had. We stopped in at 7 on a Saturday and got a spot on the call-list. It's super nice to be texted when your table is nearly ready. The wait was 1.5 hours which like !!! (but again, weekend evening within a couple weeks of opening so it should have been expected) and we were cool with walking a bit around town and treating ourselves to an appetizer guac and chips at a fave local taco joint as a bit of a pre-game. We returned to outside Barrio just a bit before the time quoted to be seated and were texted very shortly and seated right away. Drink orders and delivery were prompt and then we placed our taco orders (so many choices!) We did wait a goodly bit, maybe 30 - 45 mins or two baskets of chips worth, for our food to arrive but they were swamped and we expected a slower service than perhaps when the team gets up to speed. Tacos were delivered and mine were delicious, this time I ordered mine from the Chef's recommended list and all were quite good. Our server was very nice and on the ball with water refills, drink orders, etc. especially considering how busy they were. Hope to return in a bit for another go! read more

It has been a while since we stopped here to dine. In the past the service here was not quite as good as the Cleveland area locations, but adequate. Things sure have changed! The staff is now extremely indifferent and terribly inattentive. At least a dozen staff members walked right by our table after being seated before I went to the front desk only to find the host more involved in petting a patron's dog than caring for customers. Don't waste your time! Walk just a few blocks over and get the friendly and conscientious service that Ray's Place is known for! And notice, there seems to be no concern on the part of Barrio. This place wasn't so bad the first time I visited. Yesterday, it was a very dissapointing experience. Waitstaff was good, but the food was horrible. I ordered the queso dip that looked nothing like the online menu. It was very thin and did not have much flavor. The salsa was adequate. My husband ordered a chorizo and chicken taco that came out cold with no remarkable flavor. As far as cocktails, well, i ordered the Thyme is Burning (something like that). The sugar in the drink dominated the other flavors---too sweet to enjoy. The atmosphere was nightmarish as the music was cranked up so loud that it could cause hearing loss. I truly do not know where to begin on this overpriced visit but I guess I'll start with the price. How in the world is there 5-8$ per taco on this menu. That just mind blowing. No taco is worth that much and no other taco places come near that price. My second complaint is about the chicken. How can a spice rub chicken taste so bland at a Mexican restaurant. Absolutely disgusting!! My first (and last) time going here. I tried a couple different tacos to sample the flavors and was appalled at the quality and flavors. I don't know where they get their recipes or if they sample them at all before serving this low grade dog food but these were hands down a couple of the worst tasting tacos I've ever spat out of my mouth back into my napkin. I wanted to express my disappointment in our visit to your Kent branch today. My family went there to celebrate our sons birthday. There were a few of us who have never been to a Barrio before but thought the experience of building your own taco would be a cool experience. After placing our order we had to wait almost 55 mins for our food. That seemed a bit excessive for tacos, then when we got our order most of it was cold and barely had any of the meat in it that we selected. My son and I ordered a bowl with the coke marinated steak and to my surprise, after having to pay an additional $1.00 that I had 3 small pieces of steak as did my son on his. We spent $151.00 on food for 6 people that took way too long, came out cold, and was lacking in the protein department. I was so excited to hear Barrio was opening a restaurant in our town. Blown away by the Cleveland location, so my hopes were set pretty high. Didn't want to go right when they opened because I heard the wait time was miserable. We went the night of Octoberfest and just simply gave them our number and they would text when our seat was ready. Perfect! When the text came through, went right in and may have waited 2 minutes before we were seated. It was packed. Had a nice waiter who was attentive and got us our drinks and appetizers quickly. We ordered Fall App specials....Harvest Guac and Loaded Sweet Potato Queso. So amazing! May have waited 30 minutes for our tacos. All were delicious. Can't wait to go back! read more

No waiting in their lobby due to coronavirus BUT downtown Kent now allows to have "to go" drinks out on the sidewalks while you wait so we were able to grab a drink at the bar and wait on the sidewalk out front. Ive been coming to this location ever since I started school at Kent 2 years ago. Every single time I go, the quality of service drops without fail. On my previous trip, I had to wait 10 minutes to pay my bill while the servers drank at the bar. Tonight when I stopped in, I was seated by a server who failed to even put my table in the system. I had to sit through a whole 7:26 video, on top of listening to the entirety of Secret Boy by Wicca Phase Springs Eternal (an over 4 minute track), before I had to flag down a server that walked passed me 20 times. I was wearing headphones cause the music in the restaurant was blaring. All the servers were preoccupied talking and flirting to other servers to give a rats ass about paying customers. I had requested to turn the music down as my ears were bleeding and they turned it up. SUPER unprofessional and insulting. He then walked away without taking my order and then a guy with no uniform on took my order. He looked like just another customer and didn't even state his position within the restaurant. I had explained to him the frustration of having to wait every time I want service when it's not even busy. He told us, "Don't worry, I'll take care of your guys visit today." and after we ate, he still handed us a bill with no compensation. Super unreliable and inconsistent with service as the place is basically ran by drinking college students. Save yourself the frustration, overpriced tacos, and disrespect to patrons of this business and treat your taste buds to Taco Tantos instead. This business wouldn't have received my patronage if it weren't for my kind and generous wife. Who wants to eat while looking at skeletons with breasts anyway. We have been going to Barrio since it first opened and love it. The service is always great and we always get delicious food. They also do a wonderful job of accommodating for gluten free, which is crucial since I have Celiac. I highly recommend Barrio, just be prepared to leave full! read more

We waited a while after the location opened to avoid the crowds and growing period for the staff when everyone there is "a new employee". The experience was really good for us. IT GETS BUSY. Accept that. Get there before noon on the weekend to avoid the crazy line at the door. We were seated immediately, but had to wait for the food for a little bit, but the chips and salsa runneth over. Great beer selection too! When the food came out, we both agreed that the tacos were phenomenal! We will be going back for sure! They "hype" is for a reason. read more
