Went with a friend who suggested this restaurant as I had a craving for pizza. We sat in the bar area to watch the game/tv. One of my favorite shows was on but I really couldn't enjoy it because the subtitles weren't up on the screen. I would recommend that for the future. Our server was friendly but a little forgetful as she forgot to bring us a couple of things we order and didn't come back to offer water service. We had to flagged another staff member over to get water refills. Our food was just okay. The calamari was a little underwhelming as it wasn't as crispy and fresh. The pizza was good and the salad was delicious (very big that 2 can share or that it could be a meal) If I go back I think I will try a pasta dish instead and a different appetizer as I think I may enjoy that better. This is what you called overrated. The pizza is nothing special. In fact nothing that I've had at this restaurant is special. When someone is ordering this I always get something new and it's just not that good. Also I know someone who had to wait 3 hrs for a pizza. Update: At first I gave this a two star, I now rank it up because I recently tried their buffalo wings and slices of pizza. Their buffalo wings are great, tender meat that comes right off the bone and not overly spicy. I don't know why but the slices are different than the whole pizza, however the slices were very good and are filling. First I want to start by saying the food and service is amazing . The employees are awesome . Never had an issue . I do not though recommend going here for a late night snack. There are many shady people that come in and out at night and are hammered drunk stammering around in and out , yelling and shouting . I do not feel safe going inside to pick up my food anymore to say the least ... many tinted out cars blocking the entrance just sitting there doing god knows what. they need to have security standing outside the door at this location every night . We are out of towers visiting from Dallas. I had some bicycle races in Chicago this weekend and figured I'd search for some gluten-free pizza options, being in Chicago and all. Walking into the restaurant and it's immediately apparent that this place is a hang out for a lot of folks. The bar is front and center and surrounded by TVs, as it should be. My husband ordered the Summer Shandy beer as it was supposedly on tap. They were out. When he asked our waitress what else that had on tap that was local she responded with Miller Lite. Hrmm. I ordered the cosmo and it came out as expected. Nothing special. Made with cranberry coctail juice from a plastic bottle. Nothing fresh, but also not entirely expected either. We ordered a Cesar salad to split in order to buy some time until our pizzas came out. The Cesar was very large but was also very underwhelming. It was soggy, like it had been sitting in a chiller since yesterday's service. The dressing was everything short of a Cesar dressing. Perhaps a watered down Italian dressing is being kind. Our pizzas came out and it helped to improve our perception of Barraco's overall. My husband ordered the deep dish 'Around the World' and I had the gluten free of the same variety. The pies were spot on. Very traditional. Personally, I prefer a bit more seasoning to my sauce, but I also understand that isn't 'traditional'. My gluten-free free crust was very likely a pre-made, frozen crust. I've come to expect that of most places. It is unfortunate that more locations don't invest a little bit and develop their own crust, but it is what it is. Overall, the experience was just 'meh'. If we found ourselves here again for some odd reason, I'd skip the salad entirely and just go for the pizza. read more

I've never experienced such bad customer service, especially from someone who was suppose to be a manager. Francisco was terribly rude and disrespectful over the phone and in person. I called to get a refund on an order of wings that I ordered with a pizza for delivery. However, when I asked for a refund, he replied "I can send you some more out but they're gonna look the same without sauce." I informed Francisco, if that's the case I don't want it. Just give me my money back then. He refused to give me a refund without getting the wings back, so I brought them back. At the restaurant, when asked to write his name and superiors/owners, he replied " what, you can't understand English? " Laughable, especially since I am the American. To be honest, I wasn't wild about the Evergreen Barraco's before the fire; the food was great, the service was good, but the layout drove me crazy. Unfortunately, the rebuild is even worse. The food is still good. The service, not so much. Our server said he was new; even new, though, I think there should have been more sightings of him than every 20 minutes or so. I noticed other tables with 3 servers; I'm not sure what was going on there, but maybe one of them should have been made available to help our guy out. The new dining room has all the charm of... well, I'm not sure it has any charm. From the textured concrete floor (thankfully, the servers wear silent-soled shoes, otherwise this would be unbearable) to the exposed ductwork to the charcoal-grey walls, the ambiance is pretty dismal. Pair that with the fact that it's rather dark, and the servers wear black shirts and pants, it's kind of hard to discern the servers from the walls. (Not that they appeared all that frequently.) We were the only ones there for most of our visit; I have a feeling that, when crowded, the place is unbearably noisy, as there's nothing to absorb sound. Then we went to the bakery counter to get a couple pastries. Several people working there, although it seemed that people waiting at the counter were a priority for none of them. I doubt that I'll be back. I wanted to like the rebuilt Barraco's, but between the less-than-mediocre service and the depressing dining room, I think my money is better spent elsewhere. read more

Barraco's is a gem hidden in Oaklawn. Oaklawn(like Hyde Park), tends to close down around 10pm, leaving us late night rebels having to drive all over creation to get some good food. Not so- Barraco's saves us!! Open till 3am, they have a bar area(for those looking for loud music and booze) and a dining area(for those looking for food, ambiance and booze). Barraco's has a nice "date" atmosphere, candle light, cloth napkins etc. With reasonable prices($10 wine, $4 martinis), WARM oven baked bread(as much as you want) and a wide array of menu options(everything from sandwhiches to pizza) you will NOT be disappointed with your meal. I must caution everyone NOT to get full on bread, which is not hard to due given its super super SUPER good and FREE to boot! They have a wide dessert menu, which I havent gotten a chance to try given Ive been too stuffed from bread and pizza(but I do look forward to it). After mid-night, dine in pizzas are 50% off- perfect for those midnight hunger pains. Our server Paul was SUPER nice, even though he was dealing with a group of RUDE people across the room. Our total bill was $24- including drinks AND tons of left overs- we could have easily fed 3-4ppl on what we had. Finally , after 20 minutes I called back to ask for a manager, who was extremely rude. Transferred me back to reservations, who never picked up the phone. We had a very good dinner but I was disappointed by the size of the stuffed chicken. It was a piece about 3x4" (the size of a credit card) and too small for an adult, and too small for $22.95. The waiter, Robin, was great. It's a nice and clean and beautiful inside. I would return and order the chicken tetrazzini or the chicken tortellini. They are a better choice for the money. read more

So, we finally got a chance to check out the rebuilt Barraco's in Evergreen Park. I was underwhelmed, to say the least. The "pre-fire" Barraco's had a certain charm, what with the wooden floors, soft lighting, the faux-plastered walls covered in murals - and the great Italian flare. The new restaurant looks and feels like a warehouse. The main dining room has a dark concrete fall, the walls are dark gray, and there's black draping that serves to partition the room. Behind wire-meshed safety glass is the bar area, which also lacks any particular character, aside from the local HS jerseys on the walls. We went on a late January night, and were seated next to the windows on 95th street, and near the emergency door. I had to keep my coat wrapped around me to star warm. I ordered a Moretti beer - the waitress disappeared for about 10 minutes and said that they don't have "Amoretti". I said " No..A - as in one - MORETTI beer". A smile of understanding came over the waitress' face and she disappeared to fulfill my wishes. The food? That's still as good as it was, although I think the old-world charm of the pre-fire place made it taste even better. Bottom line? If I want Barraco's, I'll visit another location or pick it up at the 87th street location in Burbank. I'm glad that they did rebuild in Evergreen Park, but it would have been nice if they had kept the warmth of the original place. read more

I have catered from them before and was prepared for a post pandemic experience. I know restaurants have cut corners and the service and food has gone down hill. I still wanted to chance it. I'm so glad I did. I catered the beef, chicken and mostaccioli package. The salad (which is usually boring chunks of iceberg lettuce) was made of mixed greens and nicely sliced fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. It was crisp and delicious! Beef and chicken were juicy and tasty! Mostaccioli was flavorful and almost creamy. I'm so satisfied. Well done Barracos. read more

Ordered pizza and a caesar salad hrough Yelp/GrubHub. I my biggest issue is that they put the cheese over the toppings, so the pepperoni comes warm and soggy, not crisped, and the grease renders out underneath the layer of cheese making for a very soggy crust. The sausage was not good by comparison to other pizzas I've had in Chicago. I got garlic a a topping, which was fine although it also would have probably cooked better on top of the pie. They do a cut with very small squares. I'd have been fine with traditional slices. The croutons on the salad were house made, which was nice but the dressing packets were not good quality. Probably if you're going to charge $10 for a plain caesar salad, make your own dressing or get a better product from your supplier. Ultimately my knock on this place is value for $. If the food was not premium priced, I'd have lower expectations. As it was, I feel that it's not worth what they charge. read more

This saddens me to write this. I'm third generation of my family to be loyal to Barraco's. They just reopened after the fire. The pizza is not the same. The crust is cardboard. I can't believe it's only because of the new kitchen. They've had to of changed the ingredients!! When the fire happened I tried 2 other locations and they were like this. Tasteless cardboard. It's over between my family and Barraco's. The new setup of restaurant is bad too. The old place was cozy and had an old school feel. This feels like I'm sitting in a banquet hall at a Holiday Inn. Since renovating the restaurant, Barraco's in Evergreen Park has seriously raised the bar on their food. Fresh bread was served with an exceptional dipping sauce. Minestrone was fresh and delicious. This Barracos is very popular with those of us who work late at night. Pizza, sandwiches and pasta are great. Portions are enormous and they deliver until around 3 am. I particularly like the Italian fries which are coated with chopped garlic and parmesan cheese. They also have good Italian ices and Tiramisu. Stop and try just about anything and you'll be pleased. Only criticism I have is they often forget to put utensils, salt and ketchup etc... in the package and at the hotel it gets pretty sloppy. read more

Very Disappointed...Our office orders very frequently from Baraccos. for them to continuously screw up our orders is our own fault for repeatedly ordering from them. This is a very reputable dr's office, and it always seems that our dr's food is missing or goofed up. This restaurant needs to find competent workers that can read off of a screen. Then when we called to address the issue, we had to go through a 3rd party service. I would like to show the quality of food we received looked like a kid's meal that was left over. VERY, VERY insulting. We give Baraccos large orders that can't seem to be fulfilled. Not sure we will be returning. When I contacted slice for support, I never received a call back like they said. I had to reach out to them numerous times. very unprofessional services on both sides. Now, it has been 2 and a half hours and still have not received the remaining order. Even though I prefer the atmosphere of the old dining room, Barracos remains a great family restaurant. We've always had impeccable service and the owners personally greet us each time we visit. That neighborhood feel is hard to come by and much appreciated. The renovated bar area is a major improvement and a really cool spot to get a drink after work or a Bloody Mary with brunch on the weekend. I love the salmon dinner with sauteed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes, but their deep dish is also a family favorite of ours. You can't go wrong with the pizza, thin or deep dish. Lastly, I highly recommend you save room for dessert and order the shared, brownie sundae dessert. It's amazing and completely worth the calories. read more

Waited an hour and a half for my large pizza. I then received a very courtesy call from a manager. Whom then informed me that there was a "Hiccup" in my receiving my delivery. Mind you I was paying cash. She expressed that they'd be taking off 25% which was very generous and appreciated. She then stated that my order would arrive to my door in the next five minutes. I was satisfied but then the frustration set in 25 mins later when my pizza still hadn't arrived. The driver then arrived to our address and called stating he was pulling up GREAT!. Not quite he never got out of his car to deliver the food he sat there for 2 minutes and left.
