We arrived at Barnyard at around 5:15 pm on a Saturday, it was very busy and I could not wait to see what all the buzz was about. We quickly paid the cashier found us a table and began fixing our plates. The first things I went for were the bbq ribs, catfish, fried chicken and shrimp. The chicken was delicious, nicely fried not greasy and well seasoned as well as hot and fresh. Next I went on to review the rib, the rib was warm, but that is about as far as it would go. It was dry and not very flavorful. It was disappointing. The catfish was hot but overall undercooked and not as crispy as I would have liked, not well seasoned. The shrimp were butterflied and fried nicely and were just decent. I then got some of the wings, while the flavor was there it was a very mushy wing and not at all a lot of snap on the bite. Next sides were fixed, I selected turnip greens, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy as well as steamed squash. The turnip greens and squash were absolutely delightful, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were cooked well but overall a bit bland and the gravy did not have much flavor. The macaroni looked delicious with plenty of cheese pull but looks were deceiving as it was extremely under seasoned and bland. Finally I went for dessert and chose peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It was decent although not much to write home about. Overall the best experience from this place came from the staff. The staff was very friendly and helpful with everyone and that is the reason this review is not 2 stars but 3. I can't say I will go back because we were just not impressed with the food for the cost of close to 70$ for us to eat. read more

The food was great & service was great! Went with my mom on Thanksgiving as family was sick. Everything tasted like it is supposed to taste instead of being commercially bland. Will definitely be going back and will recommend to anyone. read more

Overall good food, lots of fried offerings ie fish, chicken, etc. Veggies lack that seasoning punch you would expect for a soul food. All you can eat buffet!!! What's not to love!? They have possibly the best fried chicken in the Mobile area. They make a pot roast that's pretty freakin awesome too. The salad bar is always well stocked and the food is very fresh. I usually grab a "to go" box and take it for lunch when I work nights. The staff is very friendly. Parking can be a little tricky. Their parking lot is small and the place seems to always have a pretty good crowd. Their prices are...ok... I had the pleasure of visiting Sweet Home Alabama again and I went to Barnyard just to see if my good memories of this place could be reinforced, and guess what? They were! This place is very well maintained and has great service! Food is great and fresh and they keep it coming out. I only eat white meat and the server made sure I was able to get wings when they brought the new batches of chicken. The side dishes and desserts were still really good. We stopped here on a road trip through the area. This delicious home cooked food. I had brussel sprouts, cabbage, squash, black eyed peas and cornbread - all the yummy things you don't normally get in any restaurant - and all were yummy. The fried chicken and steak were also great. My kids enjoyed the macaroni and mashed potatoes as well. My only hang up was it costs a bit more than I expected for a buffet meal - for 2 adults and 2 kids it was just over $50. But if you enjoy this type of cooking and your Mom's not home give this a try. read more

Plenty of parking, if it's busy up front, there is plenty more in the back. The atmosphere is very casual, comfy, family style. The restaurant was clean, tables were clean, bathrooms clean. Wait staff was on point, attentive and so sweet and friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful. You didn't have to wrestle your neighbor for the last piece of chicken. Desserts were delicious. So I was out shopping today and feeling a little hungry. Of course I whip out my app and start searching I've never been to Barnyard before and honestly it's because I am a complete waste of money at a buffet. I'm just one of those bird eater people that can't eat much at one time. I just to eat a little bit alll the time. Anyways.. so I read Barnyard is having some publicity issues with vengeful people so I decide today is the day to lend my support because frankly I think that sucks. The buffet is fresh and clean. Waitress friendly. Food is good. Seems to be a great place to come with a family. It looks clean. Wasn't expensive. Seemed that everyone was enjoying it to me. I did. My waitress probably thinks I am crazy because I have a few plates of food with all the different stuff on it for me to taste but I can't finish it all. I'm sorry if I appear like I wasted food or didn't like it. Trust me.. I did. I had a method to my madness... a plan if you will. I've tasted most everything and now I have favorites. This is the first time I've eaten here and it's OK for your typical buffet. I was greeted warmly by my server and she was very good at checking on me without being bothersome. The fried chicken was really good, the baked chicken was really good and the fish should have been catfish instead of tilapia. I'm a catfish girl. The salad bar was fresh and abundant with the usual fare including pickled okra, pepperoni's and the usual crunchy topping choices-croutons, sunflower seeds, crasins & bacon bits. It was nice to see a good bleu cheese, that's my favorite. Potato salad, macaroni salad and coleslaw rounded it out. The coleslaw had zero flavor--it looked so good tho but no flavor. I didn't try the potato salad, it was a mustard base and macaroni salad isn't something I'm going to eat anywhere. They had a nice selection of vegetables. I spied Brussel sprouts, my favorite, and they were severely overcooked. Overall it seems as though the cooks are competent but they should taste their food and not overcook certain vegetables before it hits the buffet. The cornbread had an odd flavor and wasn't uniform; some pieces were thick and other were really thin. It was clean and bright and the servers were nice. I'd recommend it for groups and families because of the choices but I probably won't become a regular. read more

First time here. The food was hot and very good. The buffet was well stocked and clean. Our waitress checked on us several times and kept our glasses filled. The dessert bar is filled with lots of yummy choices.....including a chocolate milkshake dispenser! If I ever get back to Saraland I will definitely plan another visit here! read more

The food was awful. We have been coming here for over a year. You can tell something has changed. We ate there today. The chicken and shrimp were not fully cooked. Then eating last night leftovers were gross cause it was over cooked. Very dissatisfied. The pot roast was reheated and the potatoes were brown and over cooked. Nothing like when they had fried mushrooms. Fully cooked chicken. And catfish instead of cheap talipia. Will not be driving out of the way again for that slop. read more

This place is disgusting. I have lived in Saraland my whole life and have tried this place several times due to lack of sit-down restaurants in this area. The quality of the food is poor to say the least. The vegetables are canned and under seasoned. Any kind of protein they have is either fried to death or covered in instant gravy. There isn't much to the salad bar besides limp iceberg lettuce, mealy tomato wedges and bottled salad dressing. The desserts are nothing special. They taste like they've been around for a while. The ice cream tasted like the machine needed to be cleaned. The restaurant itself smelled like old grease and mildew. The service has been consistently poor. Even my tea tasted soured. A week or so ago, we decided to try it again and when we walked in the door we weren't even greeted by the lazy hostess that was propped upon her elbows and looked half asleep so we turned around and left before even giving it another shot. You can smell the old grease from the parking lot. This place needs to be torn down and replaced with ANYTHING else. It's an eyesore and a disgrace to southern cooking. This was the ABSOLUTE worst dining experience that my Husband and myself have had. First thing, we paid, asked about the drinks and were rudely told that the waitress would get the drinks. So we seated ourselves, then went to the buffet area...no ribs in sight, even though on their website it specifically said that Saturday night was rib night. Asked a waitress and she was indignant and stated that they had no ribs. Even went on to say that they NEVER had ribs. My Husband asked her why that they advertised ribs on the website, she went in the back and asked someone and came back and said "no ribs." So went about to get the food, after sitting down TO TRY to eat the food (which was under-seasoned and bland, that the food was of very poor quality and tasted terrible!!!), we waited and waited for a waitress to come bring us a drink, when finally my Husband asked a waitress cleaning off the nearby tables for a drink, she replied very nastily "what do you want?" FINALLY drinks were brought, and then my Husband went to go get us some extra napkins, the waitress came back and said "I was going to go get ya some." Even the Ice Cream was nasty and had crystallized ice bits in it. I wish that someone will/would take the false advertising down that said that this was the "Best Buffet in Alabama." Wow....home cooking,freshand hot. The restaurant is very clean and the buffet is kept neat resupplied. I really enjoyed it.

The service and the help was very pleasant, however, the food was garbage plain and simple. Everything came out of a can or fried. The fried food was ok but nothing to write home about. The mashed potatoes were instant. Everything else like I said was out of a can, tasteless and unseasoned. And the price was outrages for this type of food. I don't mind paying a high price for good food. but $11 a person for food that was a step down from TV dinners was a bit much. This was our first and last time we will ever go there. read more

My first visit, finally got around to eating at Barnyard Buffet for lunch. I called this place before going there just to find out if they had fish on the buffet, they did, so I decided to go. When I got in the parking lot, it was packed, but I managed to find one parking spot available. Walked in the door, this place was packed out, but I was not about to leave after driving about 20 miles. When you first walk in, you pay for the buffet & then find a table, well, as I walk around there seems to be no available tables, but I got lucky & found one table that the waitress had not gotten around to cleaning off yet. After a couple of minutes, I moved over one table that got cleaned off. Waitress brought me a glass of sweet tea. Now it is time to go check out the buffet, grabbed a plate & all I see is great nutritious food like vegetables, NOT PIZZA. When I eat at a buffet, I always get 2 plates, one for my food & vegetables & then I grab another plate for my meat. As you grow older, you will learn the true value of eating properly. My choice of meat is always fish. Well, when I got to looking for the fish, here was this great big pan of fish slam full. My first thought was, dam, I don't have to wait on someone to bring out any fish. REMINDER: I got here when this place was packed & was still able to get fish. I throughly enjoyed my meal of vegetables & fish here. Barnyard Buffet has a nice appearance & seems to me to be clean. My waitress was very nice & polite. I did not make a visit to the men's room. I would recommend Barnyard Buffet to anyone. I will go back, but make earlier plans, I will let someone else look for the empty table. read more
