Came here for dinner for four people. We were happy enough with our meal, it just wasn't anything spectacular. We ordered the taco starter, which was quite tasty. The highlights of the entrees was the osso bucco. The dessert options were limited. We got the smores dessert, but it was lackluster and was not what was expected based on the description on the menu. The overall atmosphere and service was okay, but the big issue is a smaller, limited menu. read more

I had the miso salmon with rice, asparagus and veggies. It was made well, but the salmon didn't have much flavor.

Great food. Just flew in from the west coast and looked for some place near our hotel. The appetizers were fantastic. I had a burger which wasn't just your regular burger, it had a tasty sauce with great flavor. My son had Lasagna which he said was very good, my husband and son's girlfriend had pizza which they both enjoyed read more

Great place to chill with friends and kick back on the patio with $5 drinks during a Happy Hour that lasts from 4-7. The food is good, especially the Margarita pizza. The server was wonderful and attentive. We arrived around 5:30 and there were still plenty of patio tables. My only suggestion would be to add Chardonnay to the HH drink menu. Even so, I'll definitely be back! read more

Randomly found Barley Mac on a Sunday night while in from out of town. The Truffle Mac n Cheese was freakin delicious. Bartender was kind of friendly but extremely quiet. Decent beer selection. read more

Truffle Mac is a must have! Good happy hour but you have to sit in the bar area to be served the happy hour deals.

Great new restaurant in the area. Needed to grab a quick meal before heading to the airport. I had the Cubano sandwich and it was full of flavor. Danny, was our server and he was attentive, made great recommendations regarding the menu and is part of the reason I'd return. read more

Oh lawd. Brunch here is a must-do. $2 mimosas. Did I mention the $2 mimosas? There are $2 mimosas. I had *ahem* a few of the lemon blueberry mimosas. Y'all, $2 mimosas. Yes. My friends and I were puddles of happiness during brunch. I had a bbq hash thing that was epic. My friend who ordered a crab cake thing practically licked her plate. My friend who had the drink with the bacon couldn't speak for a few moments for fear of ruining the moment she was sharing with her drink. Ambiance: casual. Service: fast. Noise level: LOUD. It was perfect for our little group of loud ladies. Barley Mac, we will be back! read more

came here late night for at dinner with a friend. the options start to become limited in gtown so that forced us over the blasted bridge, : eek: food their late night menu is terrible, with very limited options. the only thing they had which i thought about eating was their burger. the burger on their menu was one bunned with a chicken piece on top and a fried egg. what the.... however, they will give you a real burger and fries for five or six bucks more than that price on the menu. its just a strange setup anyways, the burger was ok. i honestly would have been happier at burger king or five guys, given the price. the fries were awful. i was tempted to ask them for a fresh batch but my gut told me they would have messed that up too. they gave me club soda at no extra charge so that i was happy about price a bit high considering the quality of the food service eh, not the greatest, our waitress looked like she was doing a summer job to fund college and frankly didnt pay attention to questions we had asked her about items being ordered or brought to the table. labor is cheap is ppl, come on you can do better than this! ambiance clean, spacious, i however am no the biggest fan of high chair, too many repressed memories of forced feedings as a child i suppose parking free , at the time of night we went, during the day this would be a total nightmare overall glad i tried it, but i would not rush back here read more

My husband and I live in the area and had been wanting to try Barley Mac for a while. We finally made our way here on a Thursday night a few weeks ago and couldn't have been more disappointed. The service was friendly, but every hot thing we ordered came out room-temperature and we had to wait a long time for our order. For the prices here, I thought the quality of food would be better. With so many other options nearby, this place would really have to step up its game and advertise as such to get us to go back. read more

For three people it took 1 hour for food to arrive, cold. A surplus of food sits at the counter, huge issue with kitchen to table service. Our food got brought out completely separately- each person got their food 15 minutes apart. Then all of the food is completely cold. The restaurant also was empty. Also someone's gotta tell the wait staff to use trays...I watched a waiter bring a table of food to a table of 5 one by one, it was insane. read more

I recently went to Barely Mac for the first time with a friend after work. My office is a block away, so the location was extremely convenient for me. We went during happy hour, but there was a party in the bar section, so we sat in the dining room. The atmosphere is light, with just enough lighting to set an informal tone to the room. It was kind of weird though because at 6:30 there were only a few tables filled. For the most part, the restaurant was empty. We started with drinks, a glass of red wine for me, and the whiskey sour for my friend. Because we were not that hungry, we ordered from the happy hour menu. We both got the Fish tacos, and my friend also got the pepperoni pizza. The tacos were good, with a little bit of a kick to them. My friend commented that the pizza was also good. After we were done with our meal we concluded that we liked the restaurant, but there definitely isn't anything special to it. To be honest I am pretty confused with people who awarded this restaurant 5 stars. That means perfection people!! I would say its a good place to meet up with friends post work, but not for a sit down meal. read more

A good happy hour spot in Rosslyn. It has a good variety of happy hour bar food and also ends late (8pm). Happy hour drink choices and prices are okay ($6 wine and $7 whiskey smash), not the cheapest in the area, but the atmosphere is nice and the food is also pretty good (my favorite is the fried calamari). Parking around the area is pretty easy to find. All in all this is one of my favorite happy hour spots in Arlington, and one of these days I will try items from their full menu. read more

Came in for happy hour and dinner. I was pleasantly surprised! The brussels sprouts pizza was delicious and so cheesy! We also tried the parmigiana truffle potato skins and coccoli both were pretty good. We finished with chocolate chip ice cream sandwich sundae... whoa! It is certainly indulgent! It is basically a fried cookie ice cream sandwich. Overall we had a good experience. Seems like a good place to grab a drink or a standby restaurant. read more

New restaurant that is overall amazing. They have a huge inside and huge patio and good location on the main road there but still a bit away in Rosslyn so easy enough to park. They are a whiskey bar which is very unique in this area with tons of choices. Food was excellent with lots of interesting sounding options that make you want to try it all. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked and flavored to start. The bread thing everyone talks about just sounds boring but is super tasty and addicting. Calamari was also very flavorful and perfectly crispy. Entrees were all well cooked also. Prices are high but definitely not overwhelming, especially for the area and the quality. read more

Was within walking distance from our hotel and on the way to the metro station. Starts with the poke belly croquettes...couldn't taste the pork belly but they were surprisingly light (yes, even for fried cheese). Brussels sprouts were good, a lol saucy for me. I enjoyed the grilled octopus but it's better as a shared plate....husband had double bone in pork chop. Cooked perfectly, moist and pared well with the tangy apple slaw. Wasn't a fan of the corn bread that was under the chop. We sat in the bar area and overall the place had a great vibe. read more

Love the atmosphere here; very attentive service and the food! Great new spot - huge props to Scott Parker. Feels very different from most Arlington places - and definitely an older crowd compared to Clarendon bars which is nice. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer which was fantastic, not sure what the sauce was but it was very good. Also had the grilled octopus app, they were nice enough to redo our dish without any sauce or salt for my friend's request :) Then as an entree we split the branzino - absolutely delicious - comes with potatoes and the sauce is really good not too heavy. Overall wonderful experience and we will definitely be back!! read more

My friend and I checked out Barley Mac last night. This place is brand new (and, fortunately, a 30 second walk from my apartment)! We were immediately greeted by the super friendly manager. He escorted us to the bar area because we expressed interest in trying their cocktails. The entire restaurant was crowded, but we managed to squeeze in at the bar. Despite a "standing room only" situation, our bartender was very nice, and provided us with some great cocktail suggestions. My friend ordered "THE Old Fashioned," which was amazing! The bartender even took a lighter to the citrus (if you're clumsy like I am, I feel obligated to say "kids, don't try this at home"). I ordered the "In With The New," which was also fresh and delicious. After the first round, I also tried the a drink which consisted of jalapeño infused vodka and fruit juices. In addition to our cocktails, we also ordered food. I ordered the crab and lobster cakes from the appetizer menu. They were served with aioli and slaw. I pretty much licked the plate. My friend got their chicken sandwich, which was served with pancetta and fries. Overall, we loved the place! The food and drinks were excellent, and the service was amazing. My only regret: I wish we'd gotten the name of our bartender before we left so we could tell the manager how awesome she was. She was very friendly, helpful, and more than willing to answer our silly questions, even though the bar was very busy. Please bring more places like this to Rosslyn! read more

I had such a spectacular experience here and enjoyed it very much, the restaurant looks classy, casual attire, my best friend and I came here for dinner we were served by Pablo, he was friendly, funny and very attentive, the restaurant has very good ambiance and all the staff are very friendly The food was amazing the fried calamari and the grilled octopus were absolutely delicious. read more

The newest addition to Rosslyn, introducing Barley Mac! Not quite sure what this place used to be but it definitely looks like an old hotel lobby with its expansive rotating doors and awnings. Setting: When the weathers nice, Barley Mac will open up its glass panes to the bar so it feels like you're sitting outside. The interior design takes on a rustic, Californian look where the waiters are dressed in suspenders with denim aprons. The bar decor and display is also elegantly put together. Quality of Service: Magnificent! You could tell that the waiters/waitresses were excited about working at the newest spot in town. Being only a month old, the energy and buzz is quite prevalent. I only hope that they continue this spirit as the restaurant continues to grow. Food: I ordered a Spinach Roasted Brussels Sprouts Salad w/ Chicken for lunch while my co-worker got the lobster club house. We split our plates and I must say, I'm quite impressed. The lobster club house was a mix of a lobster roll/club sandwich so the buns were super juicy, and the lobster wasn't drowned in too much aioli. On the downside, the salad had a bit too much dressing so the spinach was rather soggy. The chicken, however, was grilled to perfection and not too dry. Also, the pancetta tossed Brussel's sprouts were divine. read more

I feel like every time I come here I get the best servers - always so friendly & sweet! I wish I could remember my last servers name to give him a shout out (he had somewhat shaggy/darker hair and wore glasses) he really went out of his way to make sure that we had the best experience/brunch. wWe stayed for some time, and not once did he make us feel rushed. Definitely recommend for a great/calmer brunch spot since it never seems to be overcrowded or too rowdy. read more

Came to Barley Mac for the first time tonight with a few friends. I couldn't get a reservation on Open Table, but called and spoke to the bar manager who was very friendly and accommodating and gave me a reservation right away. Our server, Daniel, was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He made great suggestions for every course. We decided we wanted to try so many different things that we split a bunch of things for the table. Cocktails: wish I could remember what we had, but they were all delicious and unique. None of us were in the mood for bourbon, which knocked out a good amount of the cocktail list, but we were each able to find something that we loved regardless. Starters: Coccoli: absolutely amazing. The crispy dough balls are drizzled with truffle honey next to stracchino cheese and prosciutto di parma. We ate it in about 3 minutes. Parmesan Truffle Potato Skins: topped with crispy pancetta and drizzled with lemon garlic aioli. Also delicious. It was great for sharing and a good size. Entree: Prosciutto Pear Pizza with white cream sauce. mozzarella. white cheddar. baby arugula. Could be a personal entree, but was really great to share. 6 slices of heavennnn. Side: Caramelized brussels sprouts w/ crispy pancetta & garlic. Delicious and crunchy, sweet and a little salty. By this point we were getting pretty full so we couldn't finish it all, but had we started with this, we definitely would have. Dessert: Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich Sundae: wowww lots going on here. All good. Waffle battered cookies. vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramelized walnuts and fresh strawberries. Really great to share. My only suggestion is that I would have preferred the cookies to not have been battered. It's a different concept, but I felt like it was just a little too over the top. Nonetheless, it was still delicious. Will definitely be coming back here. Great new place, so good to see new fun places coming to Rosslyn. read more

My husband loves this place but I just haven't had success with it and at this point I have tried it for lunch, brunch and dinner... The apple crumble dessert is fantastic... I didn't care at all for that meat&cheese&honey ball appetizer (forget the name)... the Margherita pizza was just okay... the French onion soup was decent... hub loves the steak frites and the app wings... idk, this place is just hit or miss for me... For brunch, those $1 mimosas are unbeatable and taste pretty good but again the food was just meh for me... read more

I'm sold! I came on a whim one Friday evening and the place was absolutely packed in the bar area (much to my surprise for some reason). This location is managed by the same team that operates A-Town and Don Tito's - but this location is NOTHING like the two other establishments. Much more tame and laid-back- you are not likely to see some young twenty-somethings making out in the corner of the bar with minimal clothing. This location has the sophistication and relaxed vibe that makes it worth the trek for this bourbon / whiskey establishment. One half of the restaurant is bar- the other half a sit down restaurant. We checked out some of the food options as well: lump blue crab cakes = a solid win. They present two cakes with some slaw between, perfect for one person... difficult if sharing in my opinion. The calamari was perfectly flavored as well. I would strongly recommend this place, especially if you are a lover of whiskey / bourbon - their options are extensive in this category! read more

Ughh I was so excited to come here just because of the name (don't judge a book by its cover eh). For some reason I thought this place would have a variety of Mac and cheese (idk why, probably because it has Mac in its name). It had one listed on the small plate. Now, I don't order Mac and cheese often. I eat it usually the night before doing a long run (13+) the next day. And I just so happened to be doing a long run the next day. So I ordered the only Mac and cheese on the menu- truffle Mac and cheese. Which sounds really good. Maybe they only need one Mac and cheese option if it's just that good. Idk. But wow I was so disappointed. It wasn't very good. It was still Mac and cheese and probably slightly better than kraft. Maybe they'll change the recipe and it'll get better. Maybe theyll add more Mac and cheese recipes to their menu. & the service was just ok. Overall, just a disappointment. read more

Ill start of by saying I don't live in Rosslyn however I am from the Arlington area and this place will make me want to come out to Rosslyn. A true gem. Every detail is gorgeously laid out. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was made perfectly. Paired it with their old fashion which Abby made to perfection taking the time to do it right and boy was it good. The other bartender Max, someone who is no stranger to the industry business, added to the already superb service. Greeted with a smile as soon as I walked in by Joshua, and was just memorized in the decor of the place. The staff were elegantly dressed and all seemed like professionals that know their craft and are ready to provide VIP service. Definitely eager to come back and try more of their huge list of bourbons. Great work to the Barley Mac team. read more

I don't often write reviews and when I do, it's because something was so amazingly good, it deserved a shout out. The entire team did an incredible job with Barley Mac! The layout and decor are beautiful, the extensive whiskey, bourbon, and blend list is impressive, and the food was incredibly delicious. HOWEVER - it doesn't matter how impressive any of that is without AMAZING staff. From the management team, to the chefs, to our waitress Stevie (whom we adored), I am bowled over by their friendliness, their concern that our food was perfect, and that we were happy. If there is any restaurant owner/future owner out there that needs inspiration or even a service model of which to follow after - it would be this place and this team. Well-done again Scott Parker and team! You for sure have another repeat customer read more

Food was well prepared and with generous portions, and service was very good. My only issue was that the server made it a point of explaining the restaurant emphasis on Bourbon, and then then told me that the first 6 or 7 bourbons I requested weren't in stock (I still ended up with a good glass of bourbon). I'd definitely head back. read more

I had high expectations for Barley Mac given all the great Yelp reviews, but unfortunately, was disappointed. I went there for dinner last night (a Saturday) - we were a party 6, so a decent sized group. First, the food. I was not impressed by the lack of vegetarian options. Our server was helpful in identifying a few options that could be made vegetarian, but really, how is there not a single vegetarian entree option besides pizza? Why do I have to imagine how your entrees will taste with 1, 2, or 3 ingredients taken out of it to make it vegetarian? My husband and I ultimately decided to split the truffle pizza and the mac and cheese and then would order more if we needed. However, the food took so long to come (45+ minutes; our server apologized for the long wait, but still frustrating) that we were frankly worried about ordering anything else. When the pizza finally arrived, it was cold and there were maybe 10 pieces of mushroom on it - very disappointing for a $16 pizza. Next time I will just go to Piola across the street for better quality pizza. The mac and cheese was solid. However, while I was eating the last few bites, one of the people collecting dishes came by and literally grabbed my mac and cheese plate mid-bite. It turns out he was trying to grab the larger dish that was under it (presumably to wash it), but honestly, it was very awkward - I have never had anyone do that at a restaurant. For dessert, my friends ordered the chocolate chip ice cream sundae, which was by far the best thing I ate that night. The cookies were hot and cake-like, and with the ice cream and strawberries was just straight up heavenly. It was my friend's birthday and the server did not charge us for it, which was super nice. A couple of other non-food notes: -The noise level in this place was actually quite unbearable. I don't know if it's the acoustics of the location or what, but I feel like we had to shout our way through dinner. -Around about 10:30 or 10:45 pm,, we started feeling this wave of hot, smelly air. We were sitting right near the kitchen and I am guessing they had just started the dishwasher (which presumably included the plate holding my mac and cheese, which was snatched from me moments earlier). This went on for about 15 minutes, and finally we left. I get that dishes have to be done, but frankly, it's not great for customers sitting near there so I think it's probably worth them just waiting for folks nearby to clear out before starting the full cleaning operation. Overall, this restaurant has a few things going for it, but my experience was disappointing enough that I will likely not be returning anytime soon. read more

This place just opened up down the street from the hotel I was staying at in Arlington. When I saw that they had just had a soft opening and were now open to the public (I think it may have been their second night open to the public?) I was a little leery. I spent many years in the restaurant business and have been through several openings. Enough to know that you should usually give a restaurant a wide berth until they work out the kinks. Still, I would not be in DC again for a while (I hope ) so decided to throw caution to the wind and go for it. I walked in without a reservation only to be told (duh!) that they were booked and there would be a wait unless I wanted to try to wedge myself into the bar (OK not their words but it was clear that I was going to need a shoehorn to get in there). Just at that time one of the managers intervened and told the host to go ahead and seat me in the dining room. He further explained that he was trying to slow down the kitchen a bit so it would work out to seat some smaller parties. Right on dude! I travel frequently and almost always get relegated to the bar or stuffed at some two-top by the kitchen door so it was a treat to be getting a nice table in a busy and hot new restaurant. It was clear they wanted there to be no problems with their opening because there was an army of servers rushing around. My drink order was promptly taken and delivered and I decided to start with the kale Cesar salad, mainly because I have been trying to eat healthier and hey, kale is healthy right? If this was some sort of healthy dish it did not taste that way. The Cesar was good and garlicy. The kale added some extra crunch and overall it was a great starter. The gnocchi, well maybe I was not as excited by that one. The flavor was OK but I expected it to be a bit more complex given that the ragout was made with pork and veal. I expected them to have a bit more texture as well. Not a bad dish but it didn't send me away ecstatic. Still, the food and service were excellent given that they just opened and I cannot see it going anywhere but up from here. I will definitely be back the next time I am in town to try out more of their menu. read more
