It doesn't make sense to get food here unless you're already there and just looking for convenience. The staff are usually nice but often young and a bit lost. The food isn't good. They used to have a very bomb Asian chicken salad. They don't have it anymore, and while they've expanded their options, it's just not what it should be. Pizza is basic and expensive. Fries are often either over or undercooked. The pricing is inconsistent. Never get the member discount even after saying I'm a member. Wings... so not worth it. Came on a very busy Saturday morning as the st James was absolutely hopping with so many games and activities taking place. I ordered a smoothie first, and then ordered salmon and rice. The smoothie was delicious, perfection. but then the salmon and rice came out and my jaw dropped after the first bite. WOW! SO DELIGHTFUL!!!! I devoured the salmon before I remembered to take a photo. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. The rice and veggies were also fantastic. The veggies were slightly oily but very nicely prepared otherwise. I was super impressed with how fast they were able to turn around orders. Both my orders were done prior to the expected time despite hoards of people and many many many other orders. The staff were super kind and responsive when I had a few special requests (needed an extra cup, plates, etc). The ambiance is nice but a little chaotic close to the food counter and on Saturday in general. I do find the prices a tad on the exorbitant side: the smoothie was $10. The salmon and rice was $16. However, to be fair: It did also come with a generous portion of veggies and the rice and salmon itself were also generously portioned. Thank you for a nice treat this weekend!! A friend invited me to a charity kickball event at The St. James on a random Saturday evening in December. He knows that I'm into health and wellness so he suggested that I come a little earlier to have dinner at Vim & Victor. This restaurant is housed inside The St. James. I could see it from the parking lot. I love the open layout, décor, and all windows were a plus as well. The attendant asked if I wanted to sit at the bar, get Grab and Go dining, or be seated for the full dining experience. I opted for the latter. Once seated, I browsed all the menu offerings and wanted everything! The turmeric, matcha green tea, and lavender lattes were calling my name. I ended up ordering a cardamom chai. It was a fragrant hot brew with the perfect amount of spice. Most importantly, it was not over sweetened. After more deliberation, I ordered the Fall Harvest Greens salad and added grilled shrimp. I added freshly cracked pepper then dug in. My food and drinks were lovely. We checked out the facility as we made our way to the indoor field houses. Later that night, we returned to the restaurant to get snacks. The vibe was so different. R&B music played and the staff members were much more relaxed. The Grab & Go area closed at 10, so we ordered off the late night bar menu. I ordered fries but several of my friends placed orders for the chicken tender/fry combo. We had a nice time catching up. If for nothing more than people going above the call of duty this place is amazing. I came to the St. James for a birthday party. When I alerted the party staff to my son's sever dairy allergy the party host took me to the kitchen of Vim & Victor (which was a surprise to see this very clean and smoothly operated kitchen from the back of the house). I met with the Chef Brian and Chef Ferrari who told me the chicken tenders included in the party did have dairy in the breading. What made me a super fan was his compassion to not just dismiss me without trying to ensure my son had an amazing experience; he personally made a vegan cheese pizza on the fly for me to make sure my son enjoyed the party and the food. It's service like this that will always overcome any mistakes or missteps in the service industry. As an 18 year military officer who truly understands the challenges of the customer service industry the staff here and the restaurant concept will go EXTREMELY FAR!!!! Food is okay, but not what I expected for the prices. There is a deli a block or two away (Park Place Gourmet) that is much better with decent prices. If I was going to the St James regularly and wanted a meal before or after, I'd swing by there to pick it up first. (Closed Sunday) For lunch, We got a 10" cheese pizza, hamburger that came with sweet potato fries, smoothie, and kid's juice pouch. It was over $40!! Pizza was okay. The hamburger was good, but nothing special. (Vim sauce is just their version of Big Mac sauce.) And the place was a madhouse and difficult to know the process. Long line at the register. We sat at a table and ordered online. But the online ordering said it was for curbside pickup only (it wasn't). Stopped in for a quick bite on my way out of the St. James Complex. I ordered a Booster Smoothie, a Pure Watermelon Cold-Pressed Juice, and a Broccolini Personal Pizza. Grand total, $35. The Watermelon Juice was the most refreshing I've ever had. The Pizza with white sauce, mozzarella, and ricotta was delicious. The Smoothie wasn't the smoothest I've had, bits of seed and fruit throughout, but was still quite good Staff at the register was pleasant and answered any questions I had. Read about the sports complex opening awhile back and the Eater review, so my son and I wanted to try out Spike's latest. Upon entering, it was confusing where to go, like the first reviewer (with unfair rating mentioned). There is a grab and go counter and the overall layout is like an airport lounge. Upon finding the hostess station, we got seated. We ordered the wings first, which had a good crunchy texture, doused in a tangy blue cheese and veggie sauce. We had also ordered the Beyond Meat burger with fries, but hiccups in the kitchen caused a super long (40 min) wait. I get that this a new place with opening week snags, but a restauranteur of Spike's pedigree should've have reconciled this already. Our main server was pleasant and attentive, although other servers seemed a bit lost, unsure where to bring dishes. I was keenly observant because of the number of burgers going out during our wait. All in all, we'll be back! The burger, fries and wings were excellent, so I'm curious to try more. The missing star is for the wait and spotty service, although the wings were gratis, which was appreciated. read more

First a simple party of 2, should have known better to go back the next day, but plans were already made for a party of 9. Like other Yelp reviews, we were befuddled with absolutely horrendous service and sometimes subpar food at the anchor restaurant at an elite sports complex. Is anyone speaking to Spike Mendelssohn about this? It's besmirching Spike's good name. Based on other yelp reviews, this is clearly a trend! We just had sandwiches, so I can't speak for the fuller menu. The sandwiches were premade and tasted like something from a 7/11. For a $9 sandwich I would expect them to make it fresh and hopefully a little more filling. We left very unsatisfied. This was especially disappointing given how nice the St. James facility is. Update 1/12/20: Second time trying them and I reduced to one star. I went to order a nitro cold brew coffee... and they couldn't accept cash only credit cards at this time. This restaurant is inside The St. James which is a new gym facility in Springfield. There is a bar, dining area, and outdoor seating. Many come and hang here but it would be great to have more comfortable seating for lounging. They have a variety of items from breakfast food, lunch, and dinner options. My favorite by far are the açaí bowls, smoothies and pressed juices. I enjoy coming here because there are many healthy options and the food is good for the pricing. read more

This place is located in the Saint James facility and looked good so I thought I'd give it a try. I got the pitaya smoothie bowl and the Hawaiian pizza. Both were a bit on the pricey side, but the employees were friendly and the service was quick. The smoothie bowl had a lot of different toppings which were good but a little overdone. The pizza was also very good and the ham was super crispy and flavorful. Overall they have a lot of good options to choose from and I would definitely recommend stopping here if you come to Saint James. read more

So I struggled whoa review because the order is good but just dint look in the kitchen or at the staff because at any point you will see the grossest things. , sneezing, playing in each other hair, pulling undies out of their backsides. This is a hidden gem located in the huge St. James sports and wellness center in Virginia. A lot of DMV folks work in Washington DC but live in Springfield so find an opportunity to head on over! Chef Spike Mendelson took the multi-window space as an opportunity to serve family friendly familial dishes with a healthy spin. Some dishes are seasonal so get there when you can to taste the new fall menu items, particularly for brunch! The cauliflower nachos smothered in cheese and jalapenos are amazing and every thing works so well together. The oven-baked fritatta tastes like a garden so fresh and almost completely guilt free. The creme brulee French toast brioche with caramelized bananas is reminiscent of banana foster. Finally the Vietnamese mussels. Green curry and coconut milk are usually always a people pleaser and work so well with the mussels with an extra kick which is most welcome. Sports fans will love this spot not just because of the indoor activity facilities but the many screens that show games throughout the seasons. Kind of like the owner has dumb-downed the menu to reflect the customers. However, still charging crazy high amount. Burger is so salty and missing the brioche bun. Greek salad missing olives but replaced with potato? And many more items missing the mark. Lots of items not available later in the day. I'm sure customers can get a better meal at the restaurants at springfield mall or Mike's Place. Service was OK despite previous reviews. I took a chance in coming here to check out the space. It feels like a slightly nicer IKEA cafeteria. The bar looked really nice and a child-free space. There are 3 huge TVs for sports fans. Cauliflower nachos appetizer was good! Entree: For some reason I felt compelled to try the curry chicken at a non-thai establishment. It. Was. So. SALTY. It was fun and relaxing and we laughed. A lot. Mostly about the service. Or lack thereof. The missing food. The missing drinks. The two totally messed up bills. The gelato that was handed to one of us in a to-go cup on our way out the door. Touring the St. James was fun. We got some steps in. We reminisced about our kids' playing sports and would we have bowed to the pressure of the St. James. (We would have.) Touring the St. James after dinner was the icing on the cake. Or at least we assume they had cake. Our dessert menu never showed up either. I did give one star. Because Yelp forces me to. The fish sandwich was good, but the reason they are only getting 2 stars is that they charge $12 for a kids meal! And it's literally chicken fingers and fries. FWIW, there is a McDonald's at the end of the street and a Subway also a few blocks away. I ordered 5 minutes to close like a jackass but they still got me. Main reason I'm writing this review is because I always check yelp when ordering food online from unknown places to see what to get, the rating was great on Uber eats but not so great on yelp which seems to have something to do with service or food wait, so if your a Uber eats'Er go ahead and order away. This is my personal experience on a Saturday afternoon eating at this new restaurant. Food quality is very poor except for fries that are really good. I tried the blackened grouper sandwich and it was too soggy, way too much sauce. My wife ordered the same dish but could not eat it because was too spicy, much more than mine. Waitresses were very nice and cortesia but the service was extremely slow when ordering a drink (more than 25 minutes and three follow ups to receive a drink from the bar) even if the place is not crowded. Decor and ambiance are really nice. Hope they improve the quality and the delivery with more practice. read more

While the food reads and looks pretty wonderful for this venue, the wine list is really "meh" (thinks lots of VA wines...). Top that with the absolute difficulty in getting service after being seated..... So disappointed! Made a reservation well over a week prior to when we wanted to try out Vim & Victor, 9/14. The only reservations available were for 8:00 pm (they close at 9:00 pm on Saturday nights--seriously, who does that??). I made the reservation, then tried to call the V&V to see if they might have a cancellation for 7:00 pm. The number was "out of service" for DAYS. So I sent a text through their website, telling them of the issues. They wrote back a couple days later and said, "please call us again, so that we can help you," as if they didn't notice where I said their number was out of order. I tried again and got a fast busy signal the next 2 days. I went online early Sat. 9/14, and there were 7:00 reservations available with a note saying the only had 9 reservations left. I made the reservation, which said Saved. I called again as I wanted to make sure it went through. The phone actually rang, but no one picked up--ALL DAY. Seriously poor management! My friend arrived at the restaurant first, and they told her they were closed for a private event. ‍ There was NOTHING on Open Table about being closed. I checked again & it still showed 7:00 reservations available. They apologized, but it was too late. If they were closed on 9/14, why didn't they say that in their email to me? Why did Open Table show reservations available initially at 8:00 pm and eventually at 7:00 pm?? These are amateur mistakes you would expect from a restaurant run by a professional chef like Spike! Could possibly be expected when a place first opens, but they've been open almost a year! They had an opportunity to earn our patronage forever, instead, they will never get our business at all. This place is located at the St. James gym in Springfield, Virginia so parking can be difficult at peak hours. I have only ordered the smoothies when I one here and can speak for them. It's delicious any of the smoothies you order and all ingredients are natural (nothing like smoothie king or tropical smoothie). Super frustrating experience. Ordered a salad, Cuban sandwich, and sweet potato fries. Waited 20+ minutes for the salad and Cuban. Was told the order for the fries never made it in so it would be a couple more minutes. Fries never came after nearly 10 more minutes of waiting. Food we did get was ok but unremarkable.
