The waiter was incredible. The food was delicious. My mojito was incredible. Would recommend

This is a cute little bar with a few tvs. I came here recently to watch hockey with my bf because the other bar we tried to go to was too crowded. They have a decent Happy Hour - $6 for a glass of wine. Not the best red wine...but still. They had some food for $9 that we tried. Marg pizza - wasn't a fan of the sauce, but I enjoyed the pizza overall. Had a couple slices left over for lunch the next day. Steak frites - I'm not a big steak person but it was cooked well. I liked the fries :) Service was very fast and friendly and the place has a nice and comfortable atmosphere. I would come back. read more

Good service, food, and drinks. Their old fashion was not bad. The Mac n cheese is good. Pizza is not bad. I am but sure if they use grande cheese. It tasked like the saputo gold brand. The stretch on the cheese was good, but the grande or a higher fat content cheese will give it a better kick in flavor. The crust on the cheese need to be cooked a little longer to give it a crispy crust and allow the cheese to dig into the sauce. read more

I came here with friends on a Thursday night and ordered a $16 burger, medium. Around 30 minutes later, it came. It was medium-rare to rare and felt very raw. It did not taste good, and the fries that came with it were soggy and not fun to eat at all. There was barely any flavor in the burger, and the bacon was blackened on all the edges. Overall, this was a pretty disappointing experience. The burger I got was barely worth $10 much less $16 dollars. I probably won't be back, at least not for the food. read more

After our rough experience, the owner reached out to me personally and invited my friends and I back. Barley Mac went above and beyond our expectations. I will list just a few out of the many great things about Barley Mac: -Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu when we asked for clarification -We received food recommendations and they were all on point (the filet mignon was incredible!) -Speaking of food, it arrived beautifully and most importantly, tasted great -We had a mix of cocktails and wine and they were all fantastic, especially the Malbec! Overall, my friends and I had a great time and enjoyed the food at Barley Mac. One of my friends enjoyed the food so much that she went back the next day with her family! read more

Barley Mac is one of my favorite local restaurants and bars. We live just down the street so we're here pretty much on a weekly basis. They have excellent service all around, Milosh is great and knows our drinks before we even sit down normally. I recommend the grilled octopus, the buttermilk chicken sandwich, and I just had the truffle macaroni and cheese for the first time today and it was awesome. It's also great for after work and evenings, their old fashioned is done very well and they've got a pizza on the happy hour menu that we get pretty regularly. The ambience of the bar is also cool. All-around highly recommend read more

The welcome experience was a little odd, the hostess didn't want to let me sit where I requested ... 2 hours later the tables she wouldn't seat me at were still empty. Thankfully, the rest of the experience made me very happy I didn't just walk out. Great server and server assistants - super attentive though it was busy, and really friendly. The server gave great recommendations, the food and drink were fabulous and the atmosphere was a good mix of music and lively banter from the bar. Beautiful space and great location. Go here. Now. And, over and over again. read more

Had a wonderful time at Barley Mac, (been twice so far). Food is executed perfectly and the bartenders make wonderful drinks; particularly Manhattan's. I've had one of the most amazing prime ribs; can go toe to toe with Washington's finest steakhouses. Also if you're in the mood for pizza or some fish or seafood selections, they have it all. Management is very attentive and has a great demeanor to always take care of their customers. Wonderful food selection, as well as beer and wine. Perfect for a date night or after work drinks. Highly recommended! read more

Made a reservation for 10:30 on a saturday at opening. Very quiet, nice ambiance, and our waiter, Hector, was knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. Tall backed booths made for intimate dining and larger tables were available for groups. Even when we left at 1 and the place was busy, noise levels weren't bad like at most brunch places. Food was delicious and timely- drinks could have been stronger, but enjoyed the brunch special "Man-mosa" of OJ, vodka, and cider. Decor is rustic/elegant and servers take pride in presentation. Will put on the return visit list! read more

A waitress greeting without smiling (rare occurrence like this in these days), asking us if we're ready to order. After we placed it, she was still not smiling (we ordered good amount of dished -dinner portion). They brought room temp sparkling water without ice in the glass. First I thought it's some sort of discrimination or telling me or us to not come back. How many places will serve room temp sparkling water like this? Food came to the table, they were 'o.k' taste. Another female server (total 4 different servers -3 female, 1 male brought us drink & food) also has no smile on her face. When I asked her to bring ice for my drink because it's warm. No smile, no enthusiasm. Other 2 servers are like other restaurant or bar, they're trying to be friendly. Honestly, I won't go back this place for my own expense. read more

The layout of this place is absolutely fantastic and the food is even better. The menu boasts several apps and main courses that all sounded so good it was hard to pick which ones to choose. We decided on shrimp wrapped in bacon and coccoli. Both were amazing dishes but the coccoli really stood out as being one of the best apps I've ever had. The main dishes were even better as I chose the gnocchi and my significant other had the squid ink linguine. Both dishes were delicious and full of flavor. They are two items I'm sure must be extremely popular. Even though I usually don't do dessert, they mentioned they had homemade bourbon ice cream. It was the perfect way to end dinner with such an awesome mix - traditional ice cream with bourbon flare. We also had a couple of cocktails that were great drinks to compliment the food. Stevie was our waitress and she was one of the best waitresses I have ever had in any restaurant. Last but not least, the layout of this place is simply incredible. The bar side is perfect from top to bottom and creates an atmosphere that allows for customers to watch a game or sit and drink wine. The food side has a software layout that creates an environment and energy of a professional yet laid back dinner setting. It is equally as gorgeous as the bar side. Designer Yvette Irene, worked her magic and created the perfect ambiance. Definitely stop in for a few bourbon cocktails and some of the best food in Arlington, VA. read more

I'm updating this review to say that we also visited for brunch and it was just as good as dinner. First off $3 mimosas? Are they for real? Yes, they are and they're delish. I had the strawberry basil and it was nice and refreshing. We started with the coccoli appetizer because it was not available on our previous visit. They are these interesting little fried doughballs - denser than a beignet and closer to bread - that are drizzled with sticky truffle honey and garlic. Definitely worthy of being their best selling dish. I also had the egg white omelette with fire roasted peppers and broccolini. The portion was enormous and the broccolini was a unique addition. Barley Mac seems like a solid go-to regardless of the time of day. read more

I brought my husband here for his birthday and It was our first time dining at BM. Parking was awesome probably because we got there at a reasonable time. Our waitress Dominique was great from beginning to end! I ordered the octopus which was delicious my husband and friends shared the wings and potato skins which they thought was yummie too! As for the entree I had braised beef short ribs and the Brussels sprout which portion size was I'm bringing home some leftovers for a midnight snack! My friend ordered the chicken needless to see she cleaned her plate! Our other friend ordered a dish (parpadelle) he never had before! He likes to try new things but sadly he didn't care for it! So we asked for a different dish and without a problem Dominique took care of it! My husband ordered the NY strip for him he like his steak a little bit more seasoned. Not sure if the extra salt and pepper helped.... My husband ordered a bday dessert on the house a apple crisp with ice cream and a shot of whiskey (which wasn't on the house) And I had the sandwich ice cream chocolate something for dessert! Which my husband hijacked as soon as he saw it and I ended up with the Apple crisp dessert! All of it was delicious! I also liked the fact that the manager came by our table to see if everything was up to par! I'll def be back for brunch and dinner time again to try the rest of the menu! read more

This place had been popping up a lot on Yelp searches, so a couple weeks ago a few friends and I decided to check it out for happy hour. Happy hour is at the bar only and it's a fairly large space. We were a pretty large group - started at the bar, but as more people showed up, we moved to one of the long tables. They have happy hour menu that includes a good variety of both food and drinks. I started with a whiskey smash, which was good, but too sweet for me. I moved on to an old fashioned which was excellent. There were many rounds of fries ordered by all. Fries were pretty standard. I ordered the calamari which was on the happy hour menu - it's not your usual calamari, rather it's more fritter style. It's hard to explain - you just need to try it. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I definitely enjoyed it. I didn't end up having dinner here that day, but I've heard such great things about their brunch and dinner menus - can't wait to try them out! read more

Loved the vibe and staff. This was the first bar I went and sat to eat/ drink at by myself. LOL! I must say the staff made me feel really important and special; I guess my suit also helped. I got a vodka cran and a wagu beef meatball sub. The sub was awesome and the beef was flavorful, moist and extra cheesy. The drink was yummy and they didn't shaft me on the alcohol. I would come back and recommend to friends!! read more

Incredible food and phenomenal customer service!! My fiance and I hosted a get together yesterday at Barley Mac with a group of our friends to celebrate a very special occasion. We worked with Anita who is the manager for group events. Anita was so responsive, kind and really cared about making this such a special event for us. The restaurant itself has great ambience, delicious food and the most amazing service I have experienced! The manager, Milos and the head waiter, Milos, were INCREDIBLE! I cannot say enough about how amazing their service was and how much they cared about making this an unforgettable experience! Thank you SO much Anita, Milos and Milos for making this the best night ever!! Highly highly recommend and this is definitely going to be my new favorite restaurant!!! read more

BLUF: A decent, tasty brunch location for a reasonable price! Located between Rosslyn and Courthouse, this restaurant is in a convenient area for residents who live around here. I have been here a couple times for brunch and have not been disappointed. The customer service here is quick to greet and to seat, especially if you have a reservation with OpenTable. For the times I've been here, I've ordered their nutella pancakes and braised lamb hash. Their nutella pancakes are sweet, with a hint of chocolate; the hash is well seasoned and delicious when covered with the yolk. They also have tasty mimosas with various selection that are reasonably priced. Honestly, if you're looking for a quick brunch location with tasty food, you cannot go wrong with Barley Mac. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area since I have moved away! read more

It's really a 3.5 but I'm rounding it to 4 stars solely for the ambiance and our server. The food was... not great. I got Veal which came with spaghetti. It was horrid. I did not like it at all and our server did ask if I wanted to exchange it and get something else but I don't believe in throwing away food -and I wasn't particularly hungry honestly- so I took it to go for my roommate who eats ANYTHING bless his heart, so he ate most of it. My friend got rockfish. Again, not great but much better than mine so he ate it. The fish potion was quite small but we had been filling up with their crab dip which came with pita bread. It was DIVINE. The best thing we ate all night. They also gave us free dessert which was nice. All in all I recommend this place. Skip the entree, stick to appetizers, and they have happy hour on Saturday till 6pm! $5 drinks! I'll be back for sure read more

Came here for brunch. The breakfast gnocchi was honestly one of the better meals I've had in a long time. Perfectly cooked egg on top. Also it was quite cold out, but my friends needed for us to sit outside bc of covid concerns. The staff turned on a patio heater for us and that made it super comfortable to be outside. Psyched to return again for brunch, maybe on a day I can try the bottomless mimosas. read more

The French onion soup was good and the steak frites - steak was okay but not the cut it should be. The fries were cold and are thicker. Salad was good. They forgot to bring the bernaise that's supposed to come with it and no staff to be found to bring it. Mac n cheese was probably the best part. But the service was non-existent on a Friday. Unless you're a large party don't expect to be served. read more

There was barely any customers in the restaurant and we struggled to just to get bad service. We had to get our own silverware. After stopping by two other restaurants that were either closed/renovating we gave up and stopped by here for lunch. Boy am I glad we did! It was a beautiful day today so we decided to sit outside (yay for natural lighting!). After waiting for our waiter for what felt like 15-20 minutes we finally ordered. The calamari was good but nothing special. The coccoli though!!! People are not kidding when they say you HAVE to order it if you come here. It is AMAZING. It literally made me say "mmmmmm" with each bite. The pear prosciutto pizza and gnocci was good as well but I think the coccoli killed it for me because nothing I ate after that tasted as good. read more

This is probably one of my more emotional reviews, but I have no choice but to give Barley Mac 5 well-deserved stars. Not only is the food good, but the service is amazing!!! The waiter saved my life and seems to be one of the few places that actually trains their waiters on proper emergency procedures. I was eating the large pieces of cauliflower (photo attached) while chatting with coworkers and ended up getting a large piece stuck in the middle of my throat. I immediately stood up and began to choke, needing immediate heimlic assistance. The waiter immediately ran to me and gave me the proper assistance and saved me from passing out. He was so helpful and really was prepared for the situation at hand. They offered to get me a new meal after the incident and gave me the assistance I needed. Thanks Barley Mac! read more

To preface my review, I have two confessions which will either have you reading more or stop reading and move on. 1. I don't like bourbon 2. I hate truffles I know that Barley Mac is all about the bourbon so yes it is kind of lame that I picked this spot for some drinks and apps but that fried dough and cheese and prosciutto looked so amazing I had to get in here! Literally this is why I wanted to come and check it out plus this tapenade they apparently make quite well. To begin with, our waitress was great because I asked for the coccoli with the truffle honey on the side because as I said I really don't like truffle and she totally made it happen. The cheese and prosciutto was so delicious. I could eat it without the dough and be so so very happy. Then we ordered the lobster crab cakes which were cold and not that great in my opinion, I will never understand bell peppers in a crab or lobster cake, very over powering of a flavor which muddle the flavor crab and lobster. The purple slaw the cakes were served over was very tasty however. Next, we ordered the meatballs which I didn't try but my fiancé said they were again just okay. At this point we all sat around like hmmmm this food isn't as good as we had hoped so we decided to not have dinner here and go try out a different spot. My other disappointment was that I saw many others getting jalapeño cheese rolls and rolls with tapenade. Not sure if these were complimentary but if they were, I am sad I didn't not get to consume those carbs. Plus I wanted to try the tapenade as I mentioned earlier. I wanted to like this place but maybe these flavors just aren't for me. Truffle is so popular these days and I cannot jump on that train. That is for sure one food trend I am ready to see die. Given I live in Tysons I doubt I will come back, I was by no means impressed. read more

The second time here causes me to rate this now. Awesome. The bartender Kery (sorry but she is leaving soon) was on point - even training two new bartenders who were also very nice and professional. I forget the name of the place she was moving to but hopefully management supports good staff and includes it in response. On to the restaurant.. Everything is clean and new, of course, but pleasantly laid out. I sat at the bar and was addressed immediately. I had the 3 star saison and it was a beautiful beer, local too. Pan seared chicken sounded like a safe bet, and it was much more. The brown sauce sat a little on top but mostly around the mashed potatoes for dipping. The chicken was perfectly cooked and moist but not under done. Then you have the caps of mushrooms and roasted spinach. Just delightful. It was a large serving for 15 dollars and even though I was hungry I could not finish it all. Looking forward to coming back for a happy hour. I wish you could ask for Kery (beautiful outside and in) to make you a love street, but karma has to help you find her. You will enjoy this place. If you are not feeling it yet get a little bourbon and remember how lucky you are. read more

Barley Mac - I believe this signifies they are well put together to make you a cocktail. - Bars Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

Was invited back for dinner by the owner and figured there wasn't anything to lose. Boy am I glad I did. The meal was one of the best I've had. I let popularity decide for our appetizers and went with the coccoli - for anyone out off by truffle in the honey it is very subtle. The puffy dough was fried to perfection, and the cheese and meat complimented the sweetness well. For dinner, one had petite filet and one had grilled salmon. The filet had a ton of flavor and the fries were great. The salmon was perfection - beautifully cooked and dressed - and the champagne risotto was delicate and complimented it nicely. But the best dish of the night had to be the Brussels sprouts. So crispy and so delicious. Really a treat. I am happy to recommend Barley Mac for dinner and can't wait to go back! read more

Nice place! Affordable for Washington and nice terrasse to eat outside. Service friendly and profesional, but wait a bit to get food. Had the skid ink linguine, not to the european std with the actual sauce made with the ink, but the pasta it self is black there. Bit less ocean tasty but quite good. Burger was very well cooked and a great deal. The kids pizza was delicious with the thin crust we like! On the dessert side, not great, usual far too sweat things, without great flavour. I came here for dinner in a group of 4 people and it was okay, but nothing spectacular. I heard a lot about the coccoli and decided to try it out. I loved the flavors of the whipped stracchino cheese (kind of tasted like less sweet whipped cream/butter), truffle honey, and prosciutto with the donuts, but the texture of the donuts was just off. It was too dry and not as fluffy as I was hoping it would be. The crispy brussels sprouts had too much champagne vinaigrette, which weighed the sprouts down and made the overall dish too wet and sticky. The grilled octopus was slightly too tough and not as chewy as I prefer. It was also pretty bland and felt like something was missing in the flavor profile - maybe some more salt? My favorite dish of the night was the truffle mac and cheese. It was classic and cheesy, with the perfect amount of truffle flavor without overpowering the rest of the dish. Rosslyn is unfortunately limited in the number of "nicer" sit down restaurants it has, so Barley Mac isn't a bad choice if you're looking for somewhere to go with friends or on a date. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

Absolutely horrible service, I asked to be seated outside we were the only table there I was informed by the manager that Brittany would be coming to be our server. After about 10 minutes I popped my head in to see if anyone was going to come, Brittany a little teenage Twerp tells me I'll be with you please wait shaking your head as she's serving other customers as though I had done something inappropriate . I have never been spoken to you like a child like that in all my years and I told her so, no apology nothing she said "if you don't want to be spoken to like a child then don't act like one", I CANNOT a believe a server would talk to a customer like that ever: I told the manager what happened and that this would be the last time I ever dine there. It's definitely an item I would come back for. We also ordered a pizza and the squid ink pasta, which were a bit on the salty side.
