Just got back from dinner at Baris - I chose the restaurant because they had my favorite Italian dish, chicken picatta, and had a ton of good reviews. First, I have had and love good Italian food in many places around the world - Unfortunately, I can't remember ever being more disappointed in a meal. The chicken picatta was tasteless grilled chicken swimming in lemon-garlic butter (I'm guessing they used garlic out of a jar since it too was tasteless. The bread was interesting, but it's... bread. Unfortunately, the service was nothing to crow about either. First, i was surprised that a pasta noodle dish was not automatically served with a fork and spoon. Secondly, I barely saw my server the entire time I was there. Usually I will give a place another chance, but I'm not sure that I want to risk another experience like this. Seemingly small and very unassuming on the outside, but inside is where the magic is! Spacious dining area, pleasant staff, cheap prices and y'all, amazing food!! Freshly baked, massive rolls that are crisp on top and soft and fluffy on the inside, are served complimentary while you wait for your entree. They have an extensive menu with a wide variety of options, so it took awhile for me to peruse and decide. I ended up ordering the pasta sampler... it was insanely good. It came out piping hot and well-seasoned, cheesy and saucy... it was just a perfect plate of food. There were a total of 8 people in our dining party who all ordered different items from the menu; I learned from their feedback that you apparently cannot go wrong with anything you choose. The service and the food were wonderful. There were only two things that I didn't find so wonderful, however: 1. Their parking lot is really small and pretty tight when busy 2. Used to love it. Sad to say not anymore. Got charged $2.50 for "oil"?? Not sure what that was. We ordered a medium pizza with the following toppings: "pepperoni, Canadian bacon, hamburger, onion, mushroom, green pepper & black olives on half." It is impossible to classify an Italian eatery 5 star unless the carb loading bread is worth every morsel. This bread is mouth watering deliciousness. They have made a change up to get the bread prior to your meal you have to order a side of sauce. Don't fret it! Get the bread. It will be the best small change investment you will ever make. My favorite dish, that I literally crave while I reside north of the Red River is the Baked Ziti Neapolitan. I choose the pink sauce because it just sets that tasty sensation apart. The eggplant hoisted underneath a layer of cheese is just about the best positioning of a vegetable, I have ever experienced. My boys order the pizza. Crust is on point and this pizza is packed with exceptional flavor. Don't let the janky parking lot or small setting deceive you. This place is busy, but I'm not sure why. We tried sampler plate and a pizza. Everything tasted exactly like a big fork full of no thank you. Ate two bites of pizza, a bite of each of sampler, paid and left it all on the table. Another place of one and done for us. read more

I don't know if a whole lot of Yelpers are wrong or if we just came here on a bad night. First, not sure if they were having an issue with the AC, but the plethora of ceiling fans going made it seem like perhaps the AC is usually not that great. Either way, it was very hot and uncomfortable. As the meal went on, I got more uncomfortable. I will say that the service was good the entire meal, from start to finish. The free bread they give with the meal is also pretty decent. Also, the side Caesar salads were good, although I will say that being handed a squeeze bottle of salad dressing so you can dress your own salads is a bit odd. After the salads is where the meal took a nosedive. My daughters both got the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Their sauce was very liquidy and almost soupy. The chicken was tough, and the whole dish lacked flavor. They both left nearly half their food, which they don't usually do, especially with this dish. My wife had the spinach lasagna, which wasn't actually lasagna after all. One layer of noodle on the bottom, topped with ground spinach, cheese, and sauce. It definitely didn't have alternating layers like you'd expect. I ordered the Marsala with both shrimp and chicken. The shrimp, all three pieces, were fine. The chicken was like shoe leather. I cut pieces off both ends of the two pieces, and it was all I could do to chew and swallow them. The sauce was very heavy in white wine and was also way too liquidy for my taste. Like the others, I left a good part of my meal. While we had planned to get dessert, between the heat and the poor experience with the food, we decided to pass and get our while we could. read more

Just ordered a dozen rolls from Baris expecting the delicious, warm, buttery rolls you get as an appetizer and were given bland baguette bread that was cold. Very disappointed. This was our first visit since being back in Waco and are upset we couldn't get our usual Baris fix. read more

After hearing from many sources that this restaurant was incredible, I had to check it out for myself. I went on a Thursday night, around 6:30, with 3 other friends, and it was PACKED. However, we only waited about 5-10 minutes and were immediately seated. Opening the menu, I was quickly overwhelmed because there are so many options! We started with an order of bread, and let me tell you, this is the best bread I have ever had (and I've had a lot of bread). It's so dense and dough-y, and is seasoned perfectly. The pieces are HUGE! Baris is known for their "pink sauce", so 2 of my friends ordered the pink tortellini, which was amazing! I opted for the chicken marsala, and loved it as well. The portion sizes are quite large, and I only ate about 1/3 since the bread was so filling! But, the prices for the portion sizes and quality of food here are unbeatable- literally $5-10 for a giant plate of pasta. The pizza here looked delicious as well, so I may have to try that during my next visit. I hear that Chip and Jo come here frequently! Definitely a Waco staple if you're passing through! read more

In town for baseball and was looking for carbs the night before a game. Sunday evening around 730pm. Place was packed. Our wait was maybe 10mins but that was due to wait staff not coming over to get us. Waiter to get to us for drink order was another 5 mins. Waiter was good but not as attentive as I had hoped. Never refilled our water, brought me out semi warm dish with the red sauce and I had to ask him to bring us our rolls. In fact anytime I needed something, I had to flag him down. Listen, this place is great for what it is. You know, it seems like what Americans would expect authentic to tastes like. I've never been to Italy, but I prefer lighter, fresher. I will say I did enjoy their spaghetti with pink sauce. The flavor was good, paired very well with the shrimp, and had ample portions. The pizza was sub-par. The crust was neither crisp nor fluffy, but rather an in between - tough, chewy, and somewhat cardboard-like. There was too much of a cheese:sauce ratio and neither the cheese nor the sauce were very appetizing to me. I ended up eating only half a slice of the whole thing. Overall, I would echo the good value of this place (in terms of price:portion), so if you're just looking to get full, this is definitely the place for you. NO parking, actually only about 10-15 spaces around the whole place with no turn around room, not sure where everyone parks for the dining room that is quite large. We were seated right away and our order was taken in a timely fashion ( I was with a party of 4) when my chicken diabolo came out it looked great. Plenty of sauce for the amount of pasta it came with and 2 thin slices of chicken on top. Starting out the chicken was very tough to cut and eat, not tender at all. The sauce was probably the best spicy spaghetti sauce I've ever tasted and the spaghetti was cooked perfectly.
