I visited shortys last night to grab a meal with some friends. We sat at 9:20 and were told that last call was at 9:30 because the restaurant was closing at 10 even though the website says 11. At 10:06, 6 minutes after closing, we were told by the overweight woman with a brown bun that we had to finish our drinks in five minutes in a very rude and snappy tone. Mind you, we had legitimately just taken our last bites of food and paid the bill. 5 minutes later, she came out again and snapped at us telling us to leave. My husband has been craving pizza. We were on our way back home and were going through Waco and hit some traffic. We decided it was a good time to get off the highway and find some food. With Yelp's help it brought us to Shorty's. It is a little hole in the wall but from what we understand a popular spot for the locals. They have a to go side and a dine side to make your experience seamless. When we walked in we were greeted immediately. You order at the counter and Marisol answered our questions about the menu. When the staff found out, it was our first time there, they let us take our cups and a pen for souvenirs. So sweet! My husband chose a 14' pizza, they also offer a 18' option. He got pepperoni and Italian sausage. He really enjoyed it but he would have liked a little more pepperoni because he thought it was so good. I got their Pizza Pillow, not only was it affordable, it was delicious. I chose the Artisan cheese, that comes with get a feta, ricotta, mozzarella, basil and garlic infused olive oil, and I added spinach. It was so tasty and you could taste the garlic but it wasn't overpowering either. The crust was crispy but not burnt. I would definitely get it again and again. This was straight-up racist behavior. While Mexican customers were in the restaurant, "Ice Ice Baby" was played four times in a row. The moment they left, the music immediately switched to country. The timing was not subtle, and it did not feel like a coincidence. Whether the staff thought it was funny or harmless, it came across as mocking and discriminatory. Businesses should be welcoming to everyone, not creating an atmosphere that singles people out. If this was intentional, it's unacceptable. If it wasn't, management needs to seriously evaluate what message they're sending. read more

When in Waco, TX and especially when you visit Baylor University, you have to stop by Shorty's Pizza Shack. There's plenty of room inside and on the outside patio to sit. The atmosphere is fun and the energy of the crowd is good. The wait staff are friendly and the food is good. The Cinnamon knots are amazing and our favorite item on the menu. The Pillows are all great as well as the pizza. Definitely worth checking out! read more

What a fun place to go for kids! Outside area is incredible and even a large seating area inside if you want to watch kids run around while staying cool indoors. The food was great, I really enjoyed the pizza pillow! Yummy. And the service was smooth as well. Came in for a quick lunch. We were three ladies and split a large pepperoni with side salads. The food came super quick and tasty! The salad could have been a little fresher, but pizza was on point. Only had one slice left between the three of us. I definitely recommend if you want a quick tasty bite. read more

Ordered drinks and requested no ice but brought with ice, pizza requested pepperoni,black olive and mushrooms came without mushrooms so took back and corrected. Sprite was watered down and Shirley Temple had strange taste. Requested root beer but ONLY comes in bottles for $4.00 each. We had ordered 3 14 in pizzas and when we finished requested a box and received smaller box not 14 inch. My drink without ice came in used cup with Stetson name on cup that wiped off... after asking for box it was like she forgot after leaving table. It was absolutely freezing inside eating. Shorty's is THE pizza place to be at if you're going to school at or visiting Baylor. I wish I could write a song for Shorty's. I wish it knew how much it meant to me. The food is often slow to come out and the seats fill up quickly, but I don't even care because I'm so enamored with the pizza pillow. Their pizza is thin but doughy and has a very specific (and wonderful) taste. When Baylor events choose to cater Domino's or whatever over Shorty's, it breaks my heart. These slices are greasy and oily and you probably need to blot them first, but boy are they good!!! The pizza pillows are incredible, and my friend who visited once still dreams about them a year later. I recommend the spinach and garlic, but every single pizza pillow is fantastic. Shorty's has a plethora of deals featuring a new one each day, along with a happy hour from 3-6 on weekdays and lunch specials from 11-2 every day. These are all listed on their website. Happy hour is the most magical time to go because you can nurse a $4 pitcher of sangria while you wait for your hot $1.50 slices to come out. Also be sure to come on a Monday for $1 off pizza pillows. This place gets super crowded during happy hour toward the end of the week, so be sure to plan ahead, but it's practically been a ghost town when I've gone on Monday afternoons. We were so lucky to find Shorty's on Yelp during our trip to Waco. It is truly a local gem. The Thursday night crowd was lively and we were lucky to find a table. We ordered salad and pizza pillows. They were exceptional. The pizza pillows were very unique, a cross between pizza and calzone. In spite, of the young, large crowd, the noise level was moderate. This is a very popular Baylor destination, especially on Thursdays when the happy hour lasts all day and you can get cheaper pitchers of sangria. It used to be you could get the sangria for $4, but they recently raised it to $6 which is a bummer. Still super fun because it's so busy and there's lots of friendly faces, but not as cheap of a spot before. The servers are on top of it and still manage to get everyone's food out fast despite it being crazy busy some days. Highly recommend to get the classic Baylor experience on a Thursday! read more

I will say the highly rated pizza pockets are a touch above mediocre, but sometimes they even contain too much cheese (not a phrase I use regularly), so again the ratios are just off and I would not come here for the food. The ambiance of this place is a college dive bar, probably really popular around game days. There is a little grassy area in the back, but I wouldn't claim it to be "family friendly" because the inside seating is primarily bar height tables, and the big draw of this place is likely alcohol and TV's to watch games. If you're young, child-free, primarily want cheap alcohol and whatever pizza your friends buy you for helping them move, this is your place. If I'm taking out of town guests somewhere in Waco for pizza - this is not the place to show off what Waco has to offer. Buffalo chicken pizza with almost no sauce what so ever but a tiny drizzle over their bone dry old stale chicken. Friend pickles were just a box full of oil soaked pickles, fried mac and cheese bites were again just soggy globs of oil. Not a single thing was even remotely close to being hot and forgot every single dipping sauce including the one they charged me extra for.
