But right now all I can do is stand here, shuffle forward an inch every couple of minutes, and come up with random thoughts to keep myself entertained. I keep looking around like something interesting might happen, but everyone else looks just as bored and zoned out as I feel. There's this weird shift that happens when you're stuck waiting: your brain starts drifting to stuff you don't normally slow down enough to think about. Like plans you haven't made yet, conversations you need to have, things you've been putting off, or even just how tired you are. My brain is bouncing between "I hope this line goes faster" and "maybe this is good for me." It's almost like being forced into stillness. I can hear the little hum of people talking, the random coughs, the footsteps sliding on the floor, and it all blends together into this background noise that makes the whole moment feel strangely calm. But right now there is no next thing. There's just this slow-moving line, and me trying to make something out of a situation that would normally annoy me.
