We happened to be in Waco to meet up with family on my birthday. I looked up restaurants and Pignetti's had great reviews, plus we love italian food. The restaurant is beautiful. You dont realize how nice it is from the outside. Such a great ambiance. We sat at the bar and our bartender was excellent. The owner even stopped by to make dure we were happy. The food was so so good. If you go, be sure to geg the lasagna egg rolls. I could have made s meal out of them! The scallops in my gorgonzola pasta dish were perfectly cooked and a nice size. We were in town to run a race. We choose to carb load here the day before. The restaurant serves Italian cuisine. We called in advance and they took reservations 15 min before we arrived. They asked if we were celebrating and we did have a birthday. The restaurant is spacious and the decor was nice. I had the lasagna rolls and Pignetti Knock out martini. The rolls were good- very cheesy. The drink was potent. I was sipping and then it snuck up on me. They brung out a cheesecake slice for the birthday and we shared. We stopped in Waco for one night and decided to check out Pignetti's. Glad we did, The food and service were great We started with the wagyu meatballs which were tasty. Hubby got the lasagna which he loved, and I got the lobster ravioli. The ravioli were huge and stuffed with cheese and lobster with some lobster claw meat on top as well, served with a creamy, rich white sauce. Lovely chandeliers and art. Friendly staff from greeters to servers. The food was incredible. We got lasagna egg rolls which are to die for. Bruschetta looked typical but the flavor had depth and was overall surprising. I appreciate that they have a variety of mocktails. I loved the peach mint mocktail. So refreshing and they have several cocktail and drink options. We got kids Alfredo with chicken and shared a main entree. We thoroughly enjoyed the basil pesto penne with breaded chicken and sun dried tomatoes. It was so creamy and I couldn't stop eating it. We finished with chocolate mousse cake which was the only item of the night that was average. The three bartenders were outstanding friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaging. I was hoping this place would live up to its previous Yelp reviews. Let's talk about service. Klint, our server, knew his craft. He offered great suggestions. He knew how to describe food. He checked in with us without being obtrusive. His suggestions were spot on. Klint, you were a large part of the experience, and so thank you. The food: this is reimagined Italian food and Pignetti's did it very, very well. Each dish we ordered was made phenomenal. The scallop was perfectly cooked, the sauces were delicious. Just swung by on a work trip. I got a handful of apps since I was too Indecisive on what to get and landed on wavy meatballs, bruschetta, and Brussels sprouts. Pro: The food was very good. My pasta was amazing down to the Parmesan. The balsamic in the Brussels Sprouts is pretty strong but it's still good. Our server Lilly was the absolute best. The owner and her husband are awesome, got on several calls with me to go over everything and answer any questions I had/tell me anything I may be missing to make everything perfect. This is the best kept secret in Waco. This is authentic Italian cuisine with a menu that is exciting but not overwhelming. You can taste the quality ingredients in every bite. From the lasagna rolls to the Pasta alla Norcina to the Scallop Gorgonzola.. there isn't a possibility of leaving unsatisfied. My husband and I travel from Glen Rose to eat here a few times a month which should tell you something considering we could be in DFW in the same amount of time. The owner is onsite delivering food to tables and checking in with guests. The service is fantastic (Stella is a server I highly recommend), and the bar drinks are perfection. My husband loves their smoked old fashioned and they even know how to make my favorite drink..the Chilton! The ambiance is perfect for date night. If you haven't dined here you are missing out! I absolutely loved the vibe of this place! Super cozy and romantic with cool decor and nice music playing. Could serve as a cute date night or casual night at the bar. We started with the Wagyu Meatballs that were firm but juicy and flavorful with a slightly spicy sauce. The Italian bread with oil was also amazing and super soft with a slightly crunchy crust. For my main I got the Triple Delight- the sauce was delicious and the meat was great, I just was not the biggest fan of the shrimp, it felt a little overcooked. Our server was kind and the food came out fairly quickly. My only complaint is I had originally ordered the Chicken Marsala but later found out they no longer had any more that night and I had to choose a different entree. Pignetti's Waco was a fantastic italian restaurant experience, with some great pasta & other flavors that really impressed me. Credit card surcharge leaves a bad taste. The appetizers were fantastic, the side of bread was delicious featuring some perfectly toasted sourdough (soft besides the great crust). The oil and herbs are just a bonus to the already very tasty bread. The side of bread is not free but it's only a few dollars and totally worth it. The wagyu meatballs were also fantastic, with the just the right amount of red sauce to dip them in. They aren't fall-apart meatballs - their style is a little more firm. But the flavor was amazing and I think this different texture is a style thing rather than a disadvantage compared to other, softer meatballs. The chicken parmesan was one of the best I've had, featuring a very pleasant surprise of thinner spaghetti noodles under the large, tender chicken breast. Plenty of cheese on top. Highly recommend this. Service was good, we got there a little less than an hour before closing so it was pretty brief, which is understandable. 2 meals plus meatballs and the bread, with no drinks, ran us about 80$ after tip. *NOTE* Pignetti's applies a 3% surcharge for using credit cards. This is a BIG pain in my opinion and almost drops me down to a 4-star rating. I think it's pretty unreasonable at this point to run a restaurant of this size & quality and try to justify a credit card surcharge because "the credit card companies charge the restaurant for using them." It's part of the business. Don't punish the customers for it. read more
