I'm not sure if what we experienced was a lack of communication, care or leadership but allow me to explain how one of my favorite places in Montclair became a place that I may never visit for a long time, if ever at all. Our visit was over 2 hours long, our food came out cold, my food, that I already ate from, was reheated on a grill where other customers food are "reheated"(yuck!), IN THE TIME OF COVID, after I specifically declined them reheating it and asked for a fresh sandwich after waiting just about 1 HOUR by this time, and was sworn that it was fresh, the main manager was too busy to come out and speak with us on our experience despite our visit being over 2 hours and no solutions were offered, I literally had to suggest how to fix things. We were prepared to deal with a wait but a dragged out visit where everything was wrong, no one could've prepared us for that. I've had better service at McDonalds. This place has simply evolved into a mess and I'd stay clear especially on the weekend. They really could not get it right after a 2+ hour visit. This is unacceptable especially in an area like Montclair where so many places are able to serve fresh, hot food with excellent service without the extreme wait, lack of care and disappointment. Came here for my birthday and we went to eat. Pretty good ambiance it kinda felt earthy and cool. The menus wow omg on iPads everything is getting high tech, you see the prices and all, I'm glad. The food was good....except for the burger! The meat did not taste like a burger; it tasted like a bad hot dog. Four of us together all had the same reaction. We decided to grab a few seats at the bar which started opening up one by one and we all actually got to sit down. Told the sweet hostess that we would be having our meals at the bar. She was cool. The décor of the place is actually really cool, and I definitely noticed how unique and fun the bar stools were. We were ecstatic to get four of them. It was also BYO so we picked up a few bottles of wine. The chaos of the bar area was really evident from the time we sat down. No one ever came over to give us menus, no one asked us if we wanted water. We had to ask for it. Which is fine, I have no problem speaking up. It was brought to us after we asked, but we weren't even greeted. Doesn't sit all that well with me. Meh. We ordered shortly after. Couple burgers, order of chicken fingers, the falafel wrap, and a couple orders of fries and onion rings. The wait for the food was hitting the mark. I'm not one to complain about waiting, but it was definitely longer than usual to the point that I forgot what we even ordered. Finally when the food came out, there was total confusion. Everytime I visit my sister in NJ we have dinner from Bareburger. It's usually take out, but during this last visit we dined in. It was a Saturday at 6pm and we stopped in before going to a movie. It was busy and there were 6 of us, but the wait was only 10 minutes at the most. They don't take reservations so we chanced it and were glad we did. It's clean and everyone from the host to the servers were all super friendly. They have a nice sized menu with something for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. They have lots of difference appetizers, a children's menu, build your own burgers as well as sandwiches. They also have vegan and regular shakes and desserts. A really great selection for everyone. The food is excellent but a tad pricey. Parking can be tricky but it's worth it. I have ordered contactless pick up and they are doing a great job with new procedures. I am also really impressed with the amount of Charity they have been doing during quarantine. They have been donating to all the local hospitals and police stations. So we're "barely" into the new year and already I noticed many things have come to "bare" which is appropriate because last year I discovered a great chain restaurant in Montclair and I'm going to outline the "bare" essentials of the story. As if that little opening didn't give you enough of a clue the eatery I'm talking about is of course Bareburger. The company advertises itself as serving organic and sustainable food which seems to be the new wave. Having recently reverted from veganism to omnivorism, I was happy to find a restaurant that served up wholesome and delicious burgers that I could be proud of eating. So my first restaurant outing after being vegan was to this place and it couldn't have been any better. I ordered the El Matador burger and substituted bison for chicken. The burger consisted of the meat, queso fresco, pickled jalapenos, guacamole, green leaf, spicy pico de gallo on a brioche bun. I paired it with sweet potato fries and pushed down the whole meal with a mandarin orange soda from Maine Root. The soda is a handcrafted, fair trade certified, organically sweetened soda that doesn't have caffeine. Apparently, there is such thing as soda that's good for you. Anyways going back to the burger, the chicken was cooked well, the southwest flavors of the dish had the right amount of spice, and that brioche bun was buttery and fluffy. To top it off the sweet potato fries were crispy, slightly sweet, and not-at-all oily. This is a great fast-food order that takes away the guilt that comes after eating at other fast food joints. Subsequent visits have allowed me to try other burgers as well as some of their appetizers. I've had the SoCal burger and the Guadalupe. Both offering a delicious array of flavors that any foodie would love. The SoCal boasts turkey, aged cheddar, pickled red onions, alfalfa, guacamole, on a sprout bun while the Guadalupe is vegan friendly consisting of black bean patty, pickled red onions, tomatoes, alfalfa, guacamole, on a sprout bun as well. I would be happy to have any of the three burgers I've mentioned. As for the appetizers the restaurant is generous enough to provide a complimentary collard Caesar salad when you check-in on Yelp. This delicious concoction of marinated collards, manchego cheese, buckwheat oats, grape tomatoes, watermelon radish, and topped with Caesar dressing is too good to describe. I could eat a whole bowl--no a whole platter--of this salad. It's simply that good. The buffalo chicken bites are not too breaded and have the right amount of tanginess and the crispy brussels sprouts really benefits from the acidity of the lemon. No doubt the rest of their menu offering is just as delicious. So that's the "bare" of it all. I hope you enjoyed my anecdote in the beginning and my review. Now excuse me while I put some clothes so I could head out to Bareburger. The cold weather is not helping my "bare" bottom at all. read more

Let me start this review by saying I love Bareburger. The environmental commitment, the mission statement, everything! This specific location is a perfect testament of a successful branch of the already iconic burger chain. I recently visited this establishment and received some of the best service I've ever had. My server was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate. It made for quite the dining experience. She recommended the vegan carrot cake and went out of her way to make sure my dessert was exactly how I wanted with vegan ice cream and pecans sprinkled overtop. I was blown away! The waitress was very nice and was on point with our orders. No mistakes, or anything. I orered their duck burger, and my boyfriend had a bison burger (create your own burger), with crispy brussel sprouts on the side. I really enjoyed their food, but I wasn't crazy about the duck burger. If anything, I enjoyed the bison burger. Love Bareburger. Frequent visitors to our local Brooklyn joint before moving to NJ, so when I saw one opened close by I was ecstatic. However, I came to learn (after two visits months apart), not all Bareburgers are created equal. Yes they still have the same amazing menu-- but it's all about execution and service.
