The four us all agreed the food was eh. The server was rude and not very friendly. She just wanted us to order and move on, and when one us was unsure what we wanted to order, instead of asking how she could help, she turned to leave. My sisters and I had a fun night on the town planned for the youngest's birthday celebration and we decided on Barcelona for dinner. We made reservations for a Friday evening and when we arrived the place was packed. Despite how busy they were we were taken to our seats right away and handed personalized menus that said "Happy Birthday" across them. How sweet is that! Our server came by with menus and water and then gave us time to look over the drink menu. It took us a while to choose because they only allow one drink menu per table and it's rather long. So we had to, one by one look through it all. We eventually settled on our picks, but I do suggest allowing each costumer to be able to view a menu... maybe make them smaller or something if they can't afford to have more made. I went with the Quetzal, and my sisters chose the Pretty 'n' Pink and the Pura Vida. On top of the time it took to pick drinks due to the menu situation, our drink orders took forever to come out. We eventually got our drinks and settled on food for the evening. We each started with a salad and the Ensalada Cesar was a great pick. While it had a little too much dressing on it, the flavors were there, it was fresh, and I ate every bite. For our first round of tapas we went with the Patatas Bravas, Calamares Fritos, and the Mofongo. The Patatas were delicious, cooked wonderfully with a crunchy outside and soft inside. I also enjoyed the sauces that it came with. The Calamares order was enormous actually. They were great and the lemon thyme aioli it came with was a perfect pairing. I don't eat pork, so I steered clear of the Mofongo, but my sisters said it was great. At this point we put in another round of drinks and these took even longer than the first. For our next round of tapas we went with the Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp) and the Albondigas. I stuck with the shrimp and they were delicious. A little spicy and cooked perfectly. My sisters enjoyed the meatballs and then we moved on to dessert. While this was a hard decision, we were quick to jump on the Pastel de Chocolate and the Tarta de Queso. The birthday girl was a big fan of the chocolate pudding cake and I was obsessed with the orange pistachio cheesecake. Seriously, one of the best pieces of cheesecake I've ever had. The flavor combinations were divine. Overall, we had a fabulous evening out as sisters and Barcelona was a great way to kick off the night. While we were celebrating and didn't mind splurging, I would say that the price point is rather high. The drink menu doesn't include any prices and we were a little shocked by the cost of each cocktail when the bill arrived. I've been to other Spanish tapa places in bigger cities like Chicago and they didn't break the bank as much, but the flavors and dishes were just as wonderful if not a slightly more complicated. With that being said, I really want to come back and try one of their paellas. I hear they are the star of the show! read more

My second time visiting Barcelona for happy hour, and again, very pleased! They have one of the "later" HH in Columbus, running from 5-7, which I always appreciate. They offer $5 drinks (wine, beer, cocktails) and $5 tapas - a steal! Unfortunately, HH is limited to the bar and cocktail tables inside, so cannot enjoy the deals on the patio :( We were easily able to snag a table when we first arrived though, so that was a nice bonus. Only complaint is that since they are cocktail tables, there isn't a ton of space for all the plates and drinking glasses, so must be careful to not knock anything over - a tiny bit of a larger table might be nice! For drinks, I had a glass of pinot grigio, which was very refreshing for summer and a nice pair to our tapas. For $5, you really can't beat it - good quality and a great price. For food, we split the hummus verde and the costillos. The hummus has a beautiful green hue and excellent flavor - a little chunkier than store-bought hummus, which I enjoy. Comes with a nicely grilled flatbread, which is definitely hearty enough to withstand the hummus. Our waiter also brought us veggies to finish up the hummus, which was so kind! The costillos were also delicious. The blue cheese and mushroom sauce was so decadent and a perfect match for the short ribs, which literally fell apart as you touched them - a sign of a great meat! Our waiter also brought us a complimentary tasting of a mixed veggie dish, which was a nice start to the meal, in addition to the fresh bread and oil on the table (rare to find). We split these 2 dishes between 3 of us, and it was enough to fill us up (at least mostly). Barcelona is an excellent HH spot in CBus. Only wish that HH extended to the patio, but for the deals, I won't complain. Highly suggest checking it out! read more

It had been a few years since I'd been to Barcelona, and this was just as great as I had remembered! We made reservations for the Thursday evening after Christmas, and although we were about 15 minutes early, we were seated right away. They also have a complimentary coat check which was a nice touch. The atmosphere is so eclectic, yet so comfortable and cozy! There are unique paintings in different styles all across the walls, glass sculptures in a Chihuly style, and even a beautiful paneled ceiling. The menu is comprised of Spanish soups, salads, tapas, large plates, and paella. Although my mother has many dietary restrictions, the server was so thoughtful and had the chef make a special paella just for her. We shared the potato tapas and the stuffed peppers tapas. My boyfriend and I each ordered the carnivore paella. First off, the complimentary bread with olive oil and tomato sauce is some of the best complimentary bread I've had at any restaurant. The bread is so soft! The tapas were each delicious and had a lot of great seasonings and ingredients added to them such as almonds and an avocado sauce to the stuffed peppers. The paellas are also a great value. It's such a large dish, and the carnivore paella comes with a large amount of flank steak - more than what I get at most steakhouses, and also delicious chorizo and fried plantains. We finished up dinner with the apple walnut cake with vanilla bean ice cream and my mother got the raspberry sorbet. Each were wonderful! The cake was large enough to share. I came here for my 21st birthday with a large group of friends. They were very accommodating in making the reservations and when I had to change the number of people they were very helpful. I felt that the tapas were very hit or miss. We got the hummus, almendras marconas, patatas bravas, calamares fritos, mejillones, empanadas, pan, and a charcuterie board. The mejillones were AMAZING and I think the table ordered them 3 times throughout the meal. I was also a big fan of the almendras marconas, charcuterie board, and pan. The rest of tapas I did not love. I also had the red sangria which was so delicious. My friends and I tried a couple of their cocktails as well and they had some very interesting combinations. I would highly recommend if you're in the market for a tapas party or want to try multiple dishes without committing to one single entre. We ordered nearly every tapa they offered and particularly enjoyed the mussels, empanadas, charcuterie board, the hummus, and the bread that comes out with every table. We also ordered a pitcher of sangria which was delicious along with multiple cocktails and Spanish coffee. The Spanish coffees were amazing and definitely recommend that you try those if you visit. The only issue we had with this restaurant was that the waiter we had seemed annoyed that we were there with a large party. This would be understandable if we were being disruptive or not respectful however, we always made sure we knew what we wanted before he came, how the check was to be split, helped clean the table, etc. He was rude to multiple of the guests and said some snarky comments despite it being one of the guests birthday. I've known about Barcelona for a while but never actually dined there until now. What brought me here? My husband of course and celebrating his birthday was the perfect time as this restaurant is super pricey. We arrived about 4:30 on Wednesday and it wasn't very busy. People were just getting off of work and getting ready to dine here later. We decided to sit out at the patio as it was a beautiful day. The patio was gorgeous. We spent some time looking through the menu and decided on tapas and paella. Why did we go with those options? Well my friends, if you don't remember my check in from last August I was in Barcelona and those were the primary dishes I ate on a daily basis on my vacation there with my family. The tapas were small as expected which was just their suggestion of us trying the cooked shrimp, it was very good. If my husband could get more, I would have liked to try the calamari as well. I was trying to see if the chef got his idea to cook the same as the Catalan's did in Barcelona while I spent time there. I did notice a few variations to this dish from the original one in Barcelona. Less mussels, because we aren't very close to water and it would have to be shipped. More mussels in the dish in Spain due to plenty of water nearby for fisherman to catch them. The dish here is a bit smaller then what they serve in Spain as it's in a much larger skillet and the Spaniards don't only use rice to make it, but they can also use pasta. Rice is just one of the staples they are known to put in it. As if we weren't full enough, we topped our meal off with a tres leches cake. Vlad doesn't realize I've had this cake before so I pretended to just enjoy it during the present time. I believe I tried it before years ago, when I first made my trip to Spain alone without any family to discover the river my ancestors were from. I didn't make it to the Rubino river, but I made it to my aunt's home safely in time to try the same cake we had here. The cake here was very moist and definitely five star quality. If you want a five star meal in Columbus, consider Barcelona. It is expensive but you are paying for quality. Even if the uber meal may be the cheaper option, I highly suggest coming in to get the full experience of the restaurant. read more

We went to celebrate a friend's birthday who specifically wanted tapas, and multiple people recommended Barcelona as the best place in Cbus to get tapas. We ordered the bowl of olives and the potatoes with a creamy white sauce and tomatoes as our appetizers/tapas, and then we split the vegetarian paella. I was so impressed with the fact that they even had a vegetarian paella, but both of us agreed it was delicious. HUGE Shoutout to Barcelona Restaurant. We had reservations for earlier in the evening and then my friends flight got diverted so we were unable to make that time. I called 30 minutes before the reservation and notified them of the situation and they said they thought they'd be able to seat us later. Once we got confirmation of when my friend would get in I called again and they moved the reservation to our desired time and they seated us promptly when we arrived, even during Restaurant Week. Our waitress was Erica, and she was so attentive and thoughtful throughout the entire meal. The drinks and food were all fantastic. I didn't take any pictures. This is why Barcelona is always one of our favorite spots. They have always been gracious and made us feel so welcome. Also if you haven't tried the Haloumi tapa you're missing out. After visiting Spain over the summer, I was excited to try what Columbus had to offer in terms of Spanish food. My boyfriend and I came to Barcelona, looking to splurge on our anniversary. We had a reservation for 6:45pm on a Friday and were seated immediately upon arriving. The patio ambiance was great - the broad leaved plants and golden light from the setting sun was very aesthetically pleasing. We ordered a peach sangria, 2 tapas and a paella. The short rib tapa was pretty decent: tender and flavorful and slathered with a creamy sauce. The artichoke salad was less impressive. It honestly tasted like they used Italian dressing and called it a day. The paella, however, was one of the worst things I've ever ordered at any restaurant, let alone one that calls itself fine dining. The rice was incredibly bitter. There was no hint of saffron, which is what gives paella its aromatic flavor. The octopus and tiger prawns were under-cooked. Like extremely under-cooked where they tasted slimy. At least the scallops were huge and seared nicely. We almost fought over the scallops because they were the only edible part of the paella. The service was also kinda meh. Our server, Dionne, barely cracked a smile during our whole meal. He never asked how our food was, never initiated conversation beyond, "what would you like to order?" and was generally cold and aloof. He was pretty animated when talking to other guests though, so maybe there was some bias against younger customers like ourselves? All in all, I was disappointed by how this anniversary dinner turned out. The food and service were both lacking. It's highway robbery to charge $45 for "paella" and have it barely resemble anything tasting like authentic paella. I guess it was too hopeful to expect Columbus to have actual Spanish cuisine. read more

I've been here twice - both times were excellent. Their patio lives up to being one of the best patios in the city; in fact I think it is the most charming as it is not too large so as not to be intimate. So perfect for a date. The food is great - we had the manchego, camarones, empanadas, paella Barcelona, and vieras. The most interesting dishes to me were the salmon curado and the banderillas. They have an extensive wine menu and we also enjoyed the (strong) sangrias. Both times the servers were very friendly, helpful, and felt like a part of the evening (shoutout to Rose during the last visit!). Our friends invited us to join them for dinner on Friday night. We arrived a bit early and sat in the bar area. It happened to be happy hour so we took advantage of the $5.00 Papatas Bravas and a caramel apple martini and as well a Paloma. Once our friends arrived, we were promptly shown to our seat in the dining area which was situated in the bar area. Mike T. was our server and was very informative. The guys ordered the New York Strip steak and I ordered the housemade pasta with clams and sausage. The other dish was the scallops. All our dishes were prepared and cooked to perfection. We all shared a sampling of each dish and all I can say is tasty and delicious! The sauce with the scallops was to die for as was the well cooked, marblized steak. I always enjoy coming here for happy hour. The ambiance is great, drink specials and small plates are a rare value. I love that they give you an amuse bouche, classy touch. I crave the bread and olive oil with tomato paste that compliments the meal as well. I would buy it by the bottle of I could. Wine selection is impeccable, especially if you drink red. Drink prices at happy hour are a reasonable $5 a glass. Small plates are a steal at the same amount for a well constructed small plate. The patio is as welcoming as everyone says, an oasis of Columbus. Can't get the happy hour specials there though. The prices are a bit steep for dinner in my opinion. The quality doesn't command the price. The mussels are not great, just ok. The seafood quality just doesn't meet the expectation for the cost. Seafood in Columbus is rarely exceptional though. Service is always good. Bar tender at happy hour is great. If you can't tell, this is one of my favorite happy hour spots in the city. I'm always impressed with my husband when he invites me on a date here because I know it won't be cheap but it's always memorable and delightful. We ate a pretty good dinner at Barcelona on Saturday night. I can't imagine going back, but we had a nice enough time. We ordered five tapas and a bottle of wine between two people. We didn't want to eat a heavy dinner before our event, and this amount of food was perfect for us. Pimiento relleno - would order again Salichas estafadas - would order again Camarones - would not order again, although the basque peppers in the dish were so flavorful and delicious Albondigas - would not order again Patatas bravas - would order again, but it's hard to mess up such a staple The service was fine. I think it would be helpful if the servers asked if guests have ever dined there before. Our server mentioned that he'd bring our dishes in two or in half (I can't quite remember), which kind of confused me until I realized that he meant he'd bring out the dishes as they always bring out tapas dishes - tapered rather than all at once. Our server was very friendly if not super attentive. We definitely had to refill our own wine glasses and lacked water for a bit. I wouldn't eat at the specific table we were at - one of the cocktail tables by the window. The ground must be slanted in that spot. Our drinks kept slipping and at one point my knife fell to the ground. It was a bit stressful, but we didn't have reservations and were just happy to be seated right away on a Saturday night. I remember pointing at that there was no background music playing. I think I would have preferred a soft Spanish guitar or something, but at least it wasn't loud! I'm glad we tried Barcelona, but I doubt we'll be back! If you do go, try to sit in one of the greenhouses in the courtyard. They looked beautiful! read more

We had a lovely dinner of tapas last night. We got the bread and the leek soup as starters. The soup was our least favorite part of the meal. A little sweeter than I expected and grainier than I wanted. Our tapas were really good though. We got the olives (a nice blend), fried artichokes (the cranberries were a pleasant surprise), the patatas bravas (fried potatoes - can't go wrong), the shrimp, and the skirt steak.
