We don't dine out as often as we used to but when we do I aspire for a good if not great experience. I'm so pleased to say, our dinner at Barcelona met my expectations. The service, the restaurant, the FOOD were all superb. The restaurant had a very cozy and romantic atmosphere which was perfect given the chilly weather outside. Our server was simply wonderful. She was very attentive and very enthusiastic about her recommendations, which I appreciated. Now let's get to the best part, dinner. I had to get the escargot appetizer that was served with homemade pesto on grilled toast...a squeeze of fresh lemon = DELICIOUS! We also got the clams in a spicy garlicky tomato broth, that I could literally have had as my dinner with a loaf of bread. For dinner, I had the Tilapia Perez served with a lobster tail and smothered with lobster sauce that yeah I will drink by the cupful if allowed in the kitchen. My husband got the Steak Barcelona and it was prepared perfectly to his liking and I enjoyed the spinach that accompanied it. Our meal ended with two of my desserts (I know). Went here for lunch on a Monday and was the only party in the restaurant. I was thrown off by that but the menu and reviews were promising. I ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer and it didn't disappoint. It came with three servings. The baguette had a delightful char from the grill and the tomatoes were delicious. The salad Valencia, a salad with grilled salmon, was my entree. The portion was large and while the greens, roasted red peppers and dried cranberries were good, the salmon was just ok. There wasn't much flavor and it was difficult to cut through the tough skin on the bottom of the salmon. The service was very friendly. Wouldn't mind going back to try the paella. read more

Rodents? Really? We've enjoyed Barcelona numerous times over the years. Our two most recent visits? Nope. The food was not nearly up to their previous standards. The tired old menu clearly needs to be revamped. On our last visit we were all entertained by a large mouse that kept scurrying around the dining room floor throughout the entire meal. Some patrons found it amusing, but it was revolting. What does the kitchen look like? Forget about this place. Disappointment does not begin to cover it. This place used to be just fine. This was more than 5 years ago. They have been opened for a very long time and we come here once or twice every year. Sometimes we are brought here by friends, other times it seems like an easy location where everyone will like something. The food is mediocre. This is not a Spanish restaurant and it is not deserving of the Catalan name. This is basically a lower end Italian place that does a bad paella. Last time there I ordered the snapper and it was just a piece of overcooked fillet of whatever fish under red sauce with random olives. Some of the wait staff can't describe most dishes. They are pleasant, but really there is usually this one waitress who really knows everything. The others go to her. Pasta here is always overcooked and for some reason all the sauces are either sour, or too sweet, and a lot of things are served with basic rice that seems to come pre-prepared. The price is ok, and the service is fine. This place has something everyone can order and I get why people might like it, however I used to really like this place and every year it seems like they are cutting costs and food is suffering. Albany really does need a good paella spot, and I wish these guys would make a proper one where the seafood is not rubbery and the rice is proper. read more

Barcelona never disappoints. Upon every visit they demonstrate a solid kitchen can be counted on to send out deliciousness. My absolute favorite is the Tilapia Perez. Grilled tilapia served with lobster tail covered in delicious lobster cream sauce. This is soooo scrumptious! They have two floors of dining in beautiful España style. They also have outdoor rooftop/patio dining. Great food, great wine selection, a great spot for dinner. I had very high expectations when we decided to go here I am a fan of tapas restaurants and went to many in Ct. that bear the same name, we decided to sit at the bar and i started with a very nice glass of wine , my family and I were totally disappointed in both the selection and the taste. I had something to die for: Tilapia with Lobster Tail and Lobster Sauce. OMG, it was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten in my life. My friend and I went here for lunch to celebrate her birthday. We both enjoyed the well-prepared and delicious dishes from the Stuffed Mushroom appetizer to the Mediterranean Chicken and Eggplant Parm, and fabulous desserts of Tres Leches Chocolate Cake and Pistachio, Strawberry and Chocolate Gelato. The dining room had a warm and inviting vibe. Unfortunately. the woman who greeted and served us did not make us feel very welcome or relaxed. She was rather rude and unfriendly and it made for an unpleasant visit despite the great food. We were the first patrons for lunch and had hardly opened our menus when she came rushing over and asked us to order quickly 'before the rush starts.' We asked her to come back in a few minutes. When she came back she seemed annoyed with us and quickly took our order. The food did arrive very fast so that was a plus. By then there were three other tables with diners. At one point a single male was seated at the table next to ours. She seemed to know him and had a very loud and somewhat lengthy conversation with him in Spanish, practically shouting in our ears. We were ready for dessert but she kept walking past us ignoring us, same with when we needed the check. I would return for the food, but hope we don't encounter this woman again. read more

Have ate here plenty of times with my husband... each time the dinners were ok but the salads that were served with the dinners were literally like 3 piece of lettuce a half a cucumber and one tomato. We always get the tres leches cake which were decent sized slices and always pretty good. But This time we ordered after months since the last time we ordered there, the dinners were definitely smaller and instead of 2 tiny dinner salads it was one salad to SHARE that was maybe a little bit bigger than the original dinner salads each dinner comes with. Favorite on Western. It was the first restaurant I went to when I first attended SUNY Albany. My parents were on a search for a good place to eat and we got lucky here (and unlucky at a lot of other places). Their pasta dishes are filled with loads of flavor. I checked out this gem while on a business trip in Albany and discovered a new favorite. We ordered meatballs, stuffed pimento, stuffed artichoke hearts, paella, prosciutto wrapped asparagus from the tapas menu and thoroughly enjoyed each dish. They also have a nice selection of Spanish wines. The Tempranillo was delicious. I will definitely stop by this restaurant again on my next visit to Albany. read more

I went to walk in the front door and was disappointed to see duck tape holding the tile floor together, immediately I thought of Restaurant Impossible, this might be a good place for Robert Irvine to do a show. I was seated at a corner table near the fake gas fireplace. The restaurant was cold, and I do mean cold, I have very warm body temperature, but in this instance I was shocked to find this restaurant so cold. I was feeling lucky that I had worn a long winter coat that reached my ankles, one that I never took it off until I left the restaurant was back in my home. I could feel a very cold breeze from my knees to my feet and as I looked down the row of tables next to the windows, I saw that every person next to the windows were wearing their winter coats. I ordered the calamari for an appetizer and with it came marinara sauce, 2 tablespoons of it. I had to flag down my waiter in order to get some more before I was done eating my calamari. Calamari was some of the best calamari I've ever had and the marinara sauce was yummy. We were also served bread and olive oil with our appetizer. Once again we had to flag down the waiter and ask for some butter. Our salads arrived with 1 teaspoon of grated carrot and a few lettuce leaves and half of cherry tomatoes. We were not offered fresh grated black pepper like the sweet waitress offered the table next to us. Nor were we offered any fresh grated Parmesan cheese. My husband ordered a glass of wine and I asked for one also even though I wasn't ready for one because I didn't want to have to flag down my waiter again. My seafood paella arrived, it was sit down before me hi my waiter who never checked to see how things were. I saw the sweet waitress waiting on the people next to me offer them fresh grated Parmesan cheese so I looked over and caught her eye and said very quietly me too? She looked at me and said, "of course" and she came over and grated fresh Parmesan cheese on top of my dinner and offered my husband some also. Lucky for me the sauce in my dinner had a wonderful flavor because the seafood, other than the shrimp was like rubber. We had room for dessert in the desert was very good. We finished up our Valentine's Day dinner and my husband informed me that he had been holding the table study the entire time we were there, I felt horrible for him. This has the makings of being a wonderful restaurant, but they certainly need to get their act together and put some money back into the restaurant and re-train my waiter. I've been hearing a lot about this place but this was my first time checking out. It's very cute. It's inside a house and a very intimate place. The food was good, the service was awesome and the atmosphere was precious. I thought it could be noisy because of location but nothing at all, being inside is like being in a little bubble. They have a full dinner menu, tapas and drinks menu and I beliieve a la carte menu which has many of the dinner items at a cheaper price. We got the lamb, I love lamb and really really enjoyed it here and the seafood paella. This is for sure somewhere I will be going back to! read more

Service was great but they don't accept gift certificates on national holidays (Mother's Day in this instance) Even 10.00 on an almost $200.00 tab. The food was pricy but good quality. I'm not sure what sets this place apart from other similar restaurants. The table had a wide assortment of dishes from seafood paella, to veal Daniel, to steak. All dishes were good and the seafood paella had a generous amount of seafood for the $30.00 price point. Plating was pretty and hot foods were hot and cold foods were cold. They kept the water glasses full. At this point I'm not interested in returning because while I appreciated the excellent service I wasn't wow'd by anything and soured they wouldn't take my gift card. (If the terms indicated the holiday clause I would have respected that) I would happily pass it on to someone else at this point to be honest. read more

My partner and I stopped in for dinner last night, and we are glad that we did! The calamari was spot_on, which is always the sign of a place that really cares about the food. Scallops were creamy, yet firm, and perfectly seasoned. My partner raved about the veal "Daniel". The specialty cocktails were good and the wine list is limited, but perfectly suited for the Spanish flavors on the menu. The incredible service was a bonus. Barlecona is absolutely the best restaurant in the area. Food and service is unbeatable. Wonderful atmosphere and service. Great date or family place. Yet again I bring my lady for a fancy date night without any disappointment. My friend and I started off at City Line, but City Line made us stand around and wait even though a table was clearly available in the outside area, where the tables are allegedly first come, first serve. We left after waiting around 10 minutes. At Barcelona, however, we were seated right away, and were pleasantly surprised to learn that it was Restaurant Week! The food was sensational! I had the flavorful, crispy calamari with tartar sauce, bread with olive tapenade, succulent salmon with soft Saffron rice, and fresh mixed veggies. For dessert, I had the most delicious tres leches cake ever! Also, I had an ice-cold, refreshing glass of Rose wine. Everything was reasonably priced, and the restaurant's ambiance and temperature were pleasant. Finally, Alejandra, our server, was fantastic (and beautiful). My husband and I were looking for a place to take some family that was visiting from out of the country. It was our first visit to Barcelona but it was highly recommended. I am not sure what part of the vegetarian menu is supposed to be Spanish; it's 100% Italian. The food is too heavy--they rely on grease rather than on fresh ingredients. The bruschetta is basted in a phenomenal amount of oil; the tomatoes on them tasted like cardboard, which was overcompensated for with garlic I was still tasting in my mouth 12 hours later. I understand winter tomatoes are awful--then don't offer something on your menu that you can't deliver in a satisfactory way. The portions are too large; the restaurant sacrifices quality for quantity. I shall not be going back. read more
