This place was delicious! My husband and I came here for a celebratory dinner. I had chosen the place because I wanted to try their Seafood Paella. It.was.delicious! It was an enormous portion. The flavor was spot on and loaded with seafood. My husband had the chicken vodka pasta, which he said was good. I may have also stolen his leftovers from the fridge the next day. I can attest that this dish was YUMMY! We also had the calamari to start. It was very lightly breaded, but fried to perfection. They bring you bread and tapenade to start, which i couldn't stop eating! I could bath in that tapenade. I also had a glass of sangria, which tasted just like it does in Spain. We rounded out the meal with Tres Leches Cake, which we of course took home to eat because after all the food we consumed above, we needed to remove our tight pants to fit in the cake. The cake was good, but not your traditional tres leches. It had a custard layer, which traditional tres leches does not have. I will definitely be back! I want to try their tapas menu and of course get some more of that delicious sangria! read more

Barcelona - Beautiful Seafood Paella-Delicious! - Mediterranean Near Me - Albany, New York

Second time here, and am still impressed how well kept the restaurant looks today. If you like Spanish food with a hint of Mediterranean cuisine this restaurant is for you. My gf and I got there right after work around 5 and were able to get the last table without reservation. The atmosphere is great, dinner setting is very fancy and decor is that of like your inside a high profile cantina which is very cool. We did not get a chance to sit at a the bar but it seemed very cozy and a good place to get handmade cocktails. Started out with the bruschetta, very tasteful and the bread was perfectly cooked. Pretty much everything you look for in a nice bruschetta, however there were only Four pieces which is not ideal for a party of greater than three. Each dinner gets a house salad, the salads seem very fresh but a little flat on the plate. The raspberry vinaigrette is very tasteful and creamy but still keeps the bitterness of the vinaigrette along with the sweet tangy taste of the raspberry. I got the seafood paella, which was good and honestly very cheaply priced, with shrimp, lobster, muscles, clams and calamari on top a bed of tasty rice. I want to say I loved it but I just didn't get that feeling. The best seafood in the dish was the calamari, the muscles were so small and lobster tail was over cooked. The presentation however was amazing which is always a positive, but paella is one of my favorite dishes and I was just looking for more Spanish/Mediterranean flavor that bursts into your mouth. My girlfriend got the Pollo al Citron which seemed like a Spanish play on the Italian dish, chicken piccata. The chicken was cooked perfectly very moist and juicy, however the sauce seemed a little off which kind of threw off the whole dish for her because it tasted a little sour. My thoughts were besides the sauce, which needed to be a little more sweater, the vegetables if came were just ok. Overall, you will love the dining atmosphere and rustic feel of the restaurant but the food we ordered today just seemed good and ok. We may come back again, follow up with me to see a review if we do! read more

Took longer to come back than anticipated, but glad we did. Everything was top notch, wines, appetizers, entrees, desserts, reservations, service, parking. Not sure that this restaurant could go anything better than it's already doing. read more

Barcelona. What can I say about this place. It has my whole heart. We always get the mussels here and I could die in that sauce - it just over takes you. We also got the Gambas and Tilapia - just absolutely amazing. Highly highly recommend this place - nothing has ever made me as happy as a meal at Barcelona read more

Just finished enjoying our meal at Barcelona's. Appetizers were delicious. We ordered two fried calamari for our table of seven and it's really not shareable in size. The escargots in pesto on toast were divine. The clams were good. Two enjoyed the tilapia perez, two loved the shrimp far diavlo and both added a lobster tail with up-charge and definitely worth it, One ordered the filet and said it was ok. I thoroughly enjoyed my steak Barcelona over sautéed spinach The chocolate tres leche cake is the bomb. Will definitely return!!!! read more

Just ate there again. Great ambience Excellent service. Food was very good and they had offerings you can't find anywhere else. But servings have gotten a little skimpy It was a pitiful little salad that didn't even fill the salad plate. Desserts were fabulous ! read more

I took my wife out for our Valentine's Day dinner after hearing friends tell us how much they enjoyed the food. Well, they were absolutely spot on with their recommendation. I made reservations 3 weeks ago to make sure we could get in and it was even better than I expected. My wife and I both got the Tilapia Perez. It was a perfectly cooked piece of tilapia in a lobster sauce, topped with a lobster tail. The sides were a vegetable medley and rice. We started with some awesome bread with seasoned olive oil for dipping and a small house salad. My wife had the red Sangria and I thoroughly enjoyed the Barcelona Punch which had a ginger infused vodka. The tilapia and lobster were cooked to perfection and the lobster sauce was out of this world. Since it was Ash Wednesday I abstained from ordering a steak dish, but that's on my radar for our next visit. My wife had the chocolate tres leches (soaked in Bailey's) for dessert, and I had a Nutty Irishman coffee (with Bailey's and Frangelico). As incredible as our meal was, Selena, our server, was terrific. She was extremely pleasant, there when we needed something, and her suggestions were perfect. We were seated upstairs and the ambiance was very pleasant. It was a great experience in every way. I'm not going to need a special occasion to come back. I gave them 5 Stars because I couldn't give them more. read more

Restaurant scams customers by adding 3% surcharge to bill for nothing. Disgusting business practice, they try to disguise it as a credit card charge, this should be illegal read more

Food was very good. Service was spotty but once we were seated improved. The Lamb was just fair but everyone else enjoyed their meal

Excellent food, beautiful atmosphere, reasonable price and good drinks. You will not be disappointed.

Very pleased with the lunch options and portions my group received. The chicken ala vodka had a very creamy, detectable sauce, and the oven fresh bread was a great touch. Between five of us, we had a great variety of starters and entrees, and everyone was happy with what they got. Affordable menu and great service! read more

We don't dine out as often as we used to but when we do I aspire for a good if not great experience. I'm so pleased to say, our dinner at Barcelona met my expectations. The service, the restaurant, the FOOD were all superb. The restaurant had a very cozy and romantic atmosphere which was perfect given the chilly weather outside. Our server was simply wonderful. She was very attentive and very enthusiastic about her recommendations, which I appreciated. Now let's get to the best part, dinner. I had to get the escargot appetizer that was served with homemade pesto on grilled toast...a squeeze of fresh lemon = DELICIOUS! We also got the clams in a spicy garlicky tomato broth, that I could literally have had as my dinner with a loaf of bread. For dinner, I had the Tilapia Perez served with a lobster tail and smothered with lobster sauce that yeah I will drink by the cupful if allowed in the kitchen. My husband got the Steak Barcelona and it was prepared perfectly to his liking and I enjoyed the spinach that accompanied it. Our meal ended with two of my desserts (I know). The coconut flan and tres leches cake were exquisite and a perfect ending to an awesome evening. read more

Went here for lunch on a Monday and was the only party in the restaurant. I was thrown off by that but the menu and reviews were promising. I ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer and it didn't disappoint. It came with three servings. The baguette had a delightful char from the grill and the tomatoes were delicious. The salad Valencia, a salad with grilled salmon, was my entree. The portion was large and while the greens, roasted red peppers and dried cranberries were good, the salmon was just ok. There wasn't much flavor and it was difficult to cut through the tough skin on the bottom of the salmon. The service was very friendly. Wouldn't mind going back to try the paella. read more

Yea, my Chicken Riccollano was not the right choice. I am not sure why I chose this at a place called Barcelona, instead of tapas. Strike one on me. The service was okay, and not as friendly as I would have wanted, but it also wasn't slow. It just wasn't memorable. read more

Rodents? Really? We've enjoyed Barcelona numerous times over the years. Our two most recent visits? Nope. The food was not nearly up to their previous standards. The tired old menu clearly needs to be revamped. On our last visit we were all entertained by a large mouse that kept scurrying around the dining room floor throughout the entire meal. Some patrons found it amusing, but it was revolting. What does the kitchen look like? Forget about this place. Disappointment does not begin to cover it. There are plenty of great restaurants in the area. This is not one of them. read more

This place used to be just fine. This was more than 5 years ago. They have been opened for a very long time and we come here once or twice every year. Sometimes we are brought here by friends, other times it seems like an easy location where everyone will like something. The food is mediocre. This is not a Spanish restaurant and it is not deserving of the Catalan name. This is basically a lower end Italian place that does a bad paella. Last time there I ordered the snapper and it was just a piece of overcooked fillet of whatever fish under red sauce with random olives. Some of the wait staff can't describe most dishes. They are pleasant, but really there is usually this one waitress who really knows everything. The others go to her. Pasta here is always overcooked and for some reason all the sauces are either sour, or too sweet, and a lot of things are served with basic rice that seems to come pre-prepared. The price is ok, and the service is fine. This place has something everyone can order and I get why people might like it, however I used to really like this place and every year it seems like they are cutting costs and food is suffering. Albany really does need a good paella spot, and I wish these guys would make a proper one where the seafood is not rubbery and the rice is proper. read more

We go here for special occasions, like birthdays and such. Good food, great service. Barcelona never disappoints. Upon every visit they demonstrate a solid kitchen can be counted on to send out deliciousness. My absolute favorite is the Tilapia Perez. Grilled tilapia served with lobster tail covered in delicious lobster cream sauce. This is soooo scrumptious! They have two floors of dining in beautiful España style. They also have outdoor rooftop/patio dining. Great food, great wine selection, a great spot for dinner. Tip: if you plan to go, reserve a table because the secret is out that it's wonderful and they are usually busy. read more

I had very high expectations when we decided to go here I am a fan of tapas restaurants and went to many in Ct. that bear the same name, we decided to sit at the bar and i started with a very nice glass of wine , my family and I were totally disappointed in both the selection and the taste. The tapas menu is limited We had the chorizo and chick peas not sure why its called that there was not one chick pea in the dish, the calamari was passable but fried soggy not crispy, the meat balls were tough and the fish Tacos were pretty tasteless, sorry we will not be back read more

Yum!! I came here with my family. They did mess up the reservation but it worked out even on a Saturday night. Everybody loved their meals. I had something to die for: Tilapia with Lobster Tail and Lobster Sauce. OMG, it was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten in my life. My cousin and his wife, who are regulars, ordered the Red Snapper Veracruz and the lamb. I had the side salad with Parmesan Peppercorn dressing which was tasty. The bread with tapenade/oil dip was also delicious. It was packed and has a warm atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation! read more

My friend and I went here for lunch to celebrate her birthday. We both enjoyed the well-prepared and delicious dishes from the Stuffed Mushroom appetizer to the Mediterranean Chicken and Eggplant Parm, and fabulous desserts of Tres Leches Chocolate Cake and Pistachio, Strawberry and Chocolate Gelato. The dining room had a warm and inviting vibe. Unfortunately. the woman who greeted and served us did not make us feel very welcome or relaxed. She was rather rude and unfriendly and it made for an unpleasant visit despite the great food. We were the first patrons for lunch and had hardly opened our menus when she came rushing over and asked us to order quickly 'before the rush starts.' We asked her to come back in a few minutes. When she came back she seemed annoyed with us and quickly took our order. The food did arrive very fast so that was a plus. By then there were three other tables with diners. At one point a single male was seated at the table next to ours. She seemed to know him and had a very loud and somewhat lengthy conversation with him in Spanish, practically shouting in our ears. We were ready for dessert but she kept walking past us ignoring us, same with when we needed the check. I would return for the food, but hope we don't encounter this woman again. read more

The interior is a bit loud. The floors are tile, and the walls and ceilings don't absorb much sound. When we visited, there was a larger party of about 10 guests next to us. It was difficult to have a conversation. Food wise, we thought the seafood paella was pretty outstanding. The tapas, we were underwhelmed by. The selection and execution was not entirely inspired. Great wine list. But no beers on tap. Last note: They charge a fee if you don't order an entree. When we visited, we ordered one entree and three tapas to share. We were charged a fee for not ordering one entree per person. This is not written on the menu, nor was it mentioned to us by our waiter. read more

Favorite on Western. It was the first restaurant I went to when I first attended SUNY Albany. Summary- OK place with Spanish name claims to be Mediterranean but is really just Italian with some Med. flare and a few random Med. dishes thrown in from what I could tell. Basically just an odd mish mash. Food- 2.5 Stars Mussels to start were good, in a nice cream sauce with good bread, cooked just right Fra Diavolo was pasty and lacked the flavor and kick (despite being ordered "hot") I associate with this sauce. The Shrimp and pasta were well cooked though. Service- 3 Stars Waitress was nice, seemed a bit distracted or something though. Drinks- 4 Stars I liked their wine menu and their margarita's were good as well. Atmosphere- 3 Stars Nice place inside, I liked the bar more than the dining area. It feels like the Italian place it used to be. read more

Worst hospitality I've ever encountered. Unfriendly hostess, and waitress. No masks! Hostess behind the bar talking while we waited 10 minutes. Only for me to seek service at 6:40 then were ask if we had a reservation, I replied no she then said they were full. I didn't believe it. So, our party of four went to another restaurant that tested us with respectable, and quick service with a smile and heat food. read more

Every time we dine here we say to each other why don't we come here more often. One of the best restaurants in the capital district. Italian meets Spanish. A great menu, wonderful food, and good service. Very difficult to hone in to order; everything sounds so good. Plus Super owners who are visible and actively involved in the operations. On a visit last week I strayed from my favorites of paella, puttanesca, veal Daniel, or salmon and had, off the menu, a filet mignon with a Demi glaze. One of the best filets I've ever had. A large and tender filet cooked perfectly. Wife had the special, a pork tenderloin with sauce and a side of yams and spinach. Too full for desserts. read more

Have ate here plenty of times with my husband... each time the dinners were ok but the salads that were served with the dinners were literally like 3 piece of lettuce a half a cucumber and one tomato. We always get the tres leches cake which were decent sized slices and always pretty good. But This time we ordered after months since the last time we ordered there, the dinners were definitely smaller and instead of 2 tiny dinner salads it was one salad to SHARE that was maybe a little bit bigger than the original dinner salads each dinner comes with. And the tres leches slices were literally bite size. They definitely downsized their meals and desserts but with the same prices. Not worth it. read more

Service was great but they don't accept gift certificates on national holidays (Mother's Day in this instance) Even 10.00 on an almost $200.00 tab. The food was pricy but good quality. I'm not sure what sets this place apart from other similar restaurants. The table had a wide assortment of dishes from seafood paella, to veal Daniel, to steak. All dishes were good and the seafood paella had a generous amount of seafood for the $30.00 price point. Plating was pretty and hot foods were hot and cold foods were cold. They kept the water glasses full. At this point I'm not interested in returning because while I appreciated the excellent service I wasn't wow'd by anything and soured they wouldn't take my gift card. (If the terms indicated the holiday clause I would have respected that) I would happily pass it on to someone else at this point to be honest. read more
