We had a fantastic dinner from start to finish at Barcelona! I took my folks here to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
When we arrived here, we were seated at a nice round table with the comfy chairs in the corner by the windows. The Spanish Mediterranean atmosphere is very nice with white linen covered tables, linen napkins and candlelight, tile floors, lamp wall sconces, framed art, brickface and orangy colored walls with nice paint designs. The dining room and bar area (with TV & stool seating) are on the main floor. Upstairs, there's also more tables for private parties and the restrooms.
The menu offers Mediterranean/Italian American cuisine including appetizers, salads,.soup, paella, pasta dishes, seafood, chicken, and meat dishes. Daily specials are offered. The dinner prices are on the moderate to high side. Full wine list, beer, and cocktails available. See the menu at http://www.barcelona-albany.com
The ice water glasses were filled and we ordered cups of hot coffee ($2.25 each). No alcohol for us tonight, we don't need any DUIs (or 11-92s).
STARTERS: Fried Calamari ($10.95), lightly fried & salted soft tender calamari rings with sweet tomato sauce, was pretty good. The complementary basket of hot rolls (chewy outside, soft inside) was served with olive oil & spices & rosemary for dipping. The Salads (came with our dinners) had fresh romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, red onion, shredded carrots, dressing, & bleu cheese crumbles (add 75 cents each salad).
DINNERS: The portions of food were very generous and we sampled each other's food. The Chicken Paella ($17.95) was very good and spicy and had sauteed chicken, chorizo sausage, onions, sweet peppers, peas in saffron rice. The Gambas Al Ajillo ($17.95) was excellent and had jumbo shrimp cooked perfectly (tender & juicy, not too chewy, not rubbery) ikn olive oil & garlic, parsley, lemon juice served over saffron rice with roasted red peppers & fresh vegetable medley. The Trucha Perez ($17.95) was very enjoyable, which was fresh boneless trout pan seared with roasted red pepper, lemon garlic sauce, prosciutto, served over rice and fresh vegetable medley.
DESSERTS: The Homemade Flan ($5.50) was very creamy, refreshing, and not too sweet. The Chocolate Confusion Cake ($6.95) was very rich and chocolatey, dense frosted chocolate cake, chocolate chips, chocolate ganache and whipped cream.
Overall, the food was excellent and the service by our charismatic waitress, which was spot on, professional, and very attentive, checking up on us frequently. Our water glasses and the glass coffee cups were refilled very often and fresh ground black pepper offered on the food. Barcelona came through big time and my folks very happy with their special anniversary meal. Muchos Gracias! read more
