    Artichoke + Mushroom Arancini

Came to Barbuzzo for happy hour, and overall it was a pretty good experience, especially for the price. The restaurant itself is pretty small, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Thankfully, we came right when they opened and it wasn't crowded, but I can definitely see it filling up quickly, especially on weekends. We came specifically for happy hour and were told you can only order from that menu if you're sitting at the bar. It was a little inconvenient for a group since there were open tables available, but it wasn't a huge issue. Their happy hour menu isn't the biggest, but it still has a good selection of staple food and drink options. I started with the red sangria, which was really good. The wine was smooth, and the apples added a nice sweetness. The papas fritas were pretty standard but came with a generous portion size. The artichoke + mushroom arancini were decent -- I've definitely had better, but they were still enjoyable. The whipped ricotta was easily the star of the show. The bread was perfectly crispy, and the ricotta paired with the sauce was so delicious that I almost wanted to order a few more servings of just that dish. The Barbuzzo burger was okay, but nothing too memorable. It wasn't very big or unique, just a simple burger with an aioli spread. Overall, I'd maybe come back for happy hour if I'm just with one other person since the bar seating requirement makes it harder for groups. I'd mainly come back for the whipped ricotta and sangria, but I definitely still want to try their full dinner menu since I've heard great things about their food.

We had a really enjoyable dinner at Barbuzzpo. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was excellent throughout the evening. Reservations are a good idea since it can get busy. To start, we shared a fresh goat cheese salad along with the following entrees , including short rib over polenta, mushroom pasta, grape leaves, and an octopus salad. Everything was flavorful and nicely prepared, and it was fun to try a variety of dishes. For dessert, we had the salted caramel boudino, which was a perfect way to end the meal--rich, smooth, and not overly sweet. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience with great food and a warm atmosphere. I'd happily come back and would recommend Barduzzo to anyone looking for a great meal in Philadelphia.

4 Stars feels low - 5 stars seems high. Overall a very enjoyable meal. Food was excellent. Here's the rundown: GRILLED HEIRLOOM CARROTS: Creamy, savory, fantastic SPRING VEGGIE SALAD*: fresh, tasty, elevated salad PAN SEARED GNOCCHI: show stopper, would order again 5 stars ROSSA (WOOD FIRED PIZZA): basic but excellent SALTED CARAMEL BUDINO: house specialty for a reason {small but really good beer selection} Service was attentive - maybe a tad too attentive but certainly well-meaning. *The only (very) slight ding, is that the waiter noted it was family style, but the portions were individual sized. We added on the salad b/c we need something else. I always thought 'family style' was larger portions shared by the table. No biggie. The room is not big a bit cozy. All table were taken but didn't feel cramped or chaotic. Overall - very glad I came to Barbuzzo and would certainly recommend.

This was my favorite spot in central city! Whether i was sitting outside enjoying the street view or sitting infront of the kitchen! The food was amazing i tried all of there larger plates. Every plate tasted like over 20 ingredients!

very fresh, healthy, tasty, good price. The dessert was really good. The octopus was tender. The pizza was crispy. The salad was really good.

Really wanted to love the pasta at Barbuzzo, but this one missed the mark for me. The paccheri with pork sugo came out looking great, but the pasta itself was rock hard not al dente, but actually hard and undercooked. It honestly felt like a can of chili dumped over pasta that never fully finished cooking, which was pretty disappointing given the restaurant's reputation. The highlight of the night was absolutely the salted caramel budino, which was insanely good, rich, creamy, perfectly balanced between sweet and salty, and easily the best thing we had. Even better, the staff kindly gave us one to take back to the hotel, which was a really nice touch and much appreciated. Service and atmosphere were great, but unfortunately the main dish just didn't deliver this time. Hoping it was just an off night.

The food. ‍ Downtown Philly on a Friday night. Group of 5 visitors in town for a.large conference. Searching at 6:30pm, couldn't get a reservation earlier than 9pm anywhere! Snagged and 8;45 slot at Barbuzzo and walked over 45 minutes early just in case. And boom! Come on back, the host said! Molly our server was great--energetic, polite, patient. We all got the Stracotto, and there was a side of carrots. I love love a mixture of flavors, colors, and textures, so I didnt leave a single morsel of the polenta, veggies, gava beans, or short rib on the plate. The vibe is cool, but think more bar than restaurant. It's a long bar---the length of the narrow establishment--with a short menu. But did I say it was delicious? There is just one line of tables running the length of the room, across from the bar. We were seated at the largest one, adjacent to the kitchen door, elbow to elbow. But we got through it with full bellies, fully satisfied. (5 stars for my food)

We went in for an early dinner before catching a concert at the Academy of Music, a couple of blocks away. The internet lists this as Mediterranean, which is why I was so surprised the first smell to reach me upon entering was the smell of oven fired pizza. We were seated quickly and our server told us the food is served "family style with medium" portions. Despite this, we ordered as we would at any other restaurant and found it to be sufficient. We started with the stuffed meatballs which had a nice saucy flavor to them, with added peppers which gave them a mild kick. For our entrees we had lamb stuffed grape leaves, which were excellent and came with a healthy helping of chickpeas and tziki sauce on the side. We also had the stracotto which came with an incredibly tender short rib, a very well-paired accompaniment of vegetables, and cheese. I was on the verge of ordering a personal pizza as well, but was unfortunately full by that point. Next time we'll definitely be trying that and the dessert. There weren't many options for dessert, but after hearing folks raving about the salted caramel, I will definitely need to make a return visit.

Nice restaurant, if a bit cramped. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the entrees and made solid recommendations. The meatball appetizer came with just 1 piece of bread but we were able to request a second piece for our party of two. I got the grape leaves stuffed with ground lamb over chickpeas. Very flavorful and enough that I could share with my husband. He got a beef short rib with veggies, which was also enough to share, so we each got to try a bit of everything. Nice place, would like to come back to try their pizzas! Only thing that was slightly lacking was their dessert menu, but there are plenty of other options within a block to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Incredible meal on the street at Barbuzzo on Sunday! The pistachio mortadella pizza was actually perfect and so doughy, the grape leaves and accoutrements did not disappoint and the budino was probably a highlight. Idk how we will go back and NOT get the budino truly. Excited to try more pizzas !

    Catered menu for large group

Excellent meal for a large (30) group at this popular Philadelphia spot. Barbuzzo offers a private upstairs room for large groups. It's a rectangular room, open kitchen at the back, bar to the right. Tables are grouped together towards the front. They provide a portable coat check, which is a nice touch on a very cold nite for everyone's bulky winter coat. For a large party a slimmed-down menu is available, albeit with plenty of choices. Appetizers are served family style, and diners choose from one of 4 entrees and 3 desserts. Appetizers are delicious. Standouts include whipped ricotta; wonderful ricotta cheese whipped fluffy and adorned with a drizzle of olive oil and sweet/tart vin cotto. Perfect to slather onto crusty grilled bread. Also, seared shrimp served with a melange of blistered multi-colored tomatoes as well as steak fry-sized bars of crispy polenta. All served tossed in a basil walnut pesto. And tennis ball-sized meatballs - a little spicy - crowned with luscious sweet tomato sauce, served atop creamy, soft polenta. Hard to decide which entree to try because they all sound wonderful. I tried branzino, one of my favorites. A filet is offered here (not the whole fish) which is a nice change from having to navigate the whole head-on fish thing. It's traditional prep done right - skin on, broiled crispy, seasoned and cooked perfectly with the flesh slightly sweet, firm and moist. Impolite to ask for a bite of others' plates at a business function but the feedback about the other entrees was consistent.... Food well presented, hot when served, well seasoned, moist and tender. And we can't forget dessert! I tried espresso tiramisu. Creamy fresh whipped marscapone tops moist espresso-soaked ladyfingers, then adorned with crunchy cocoa nibs. Delicious, and a sizable portion for dessert. Shout out to the service team. Not easy to serve a large group but this team managed with ease. Everyone was served quickly. Everyone got what they ordered and it was all piping hot and delicious. Bravo! Definitely a great experience. Recommended!

OMG! Back again for two meals this weekend and I cannot believe it, but it keeps getting better each time. Always love the salads and the classic beet salad is an always successful start with a big smear of goat cheese, Tuscan kales slivered so carefully and chunks of beets and pistachio pesto with two slices of mandarins oranges to make a wonderful beginning. Delicious. We also tried a new entry in the salads Roasted eggplant. Absolutely fabulous. Life changing. The Smokey eggplant flavor with layers of flavors from smashed white bean spread, celery heart sauce verte with just a hint of spiciness and many more layers. Spectacular edition. We also tried the new hangar steak which was perfection. Perfectly portioned slices over roasted and pickled summer squash, onion soubise with basil chimichurri over the top a delight in every bite. The one night we also tried the bronzino on a great couscous. But the best was a new special menu item of crab tortellini. The flavor palette melted and changed in your mouth from pasta to cheese to butter to crab. An adventurous bite. And we loved being remembered for coming back. Thanks to Beth and Evan for the great service and welcome. And it's also so great to eat outside and see the world go by. Perfect summertime eating ambiance.

Great location, Easy to find. A low lighting relaxing atmosphere with metal chairs and benches for guests. I ordered the lamb stuffed grape leaves, it was okay for me. Our team also shared the mushroom Pizza, olives and whipped ricotta -- all really delicious!! The bread with the ricotta was amazing. The tiramisu, which I got to go, was great!

Everything was as perfect as it could be why is that because this restaurants been doing it for over 126 years they know a thing or two their customers and had to prepare plate delicious meals. Surprise surprise we actually found parking OK maybe that's because we got there earlier than our reservation in hopes to make another stop that didn't work out so we came early and they greeted us with open arms took us to a beautiful table in front of vintage fireplace hence we were sitting in the perfect spot. Our server, Justin came over to greet us. We got into some conversation before we even touched upon the food. He was exceptional at his run through the menu, his explanations on preparations handling questions. This was definitely not his first, not his second and not his third rodeo he's definitely a professional at what he does. Upon review of the menu we started off with steamed clams and a spicy marinara and actually asked for fra Diavlo hence they gave it an additional hit of spice. It had a nice kick. It was very tasty. My wife was going back-and-forth between their signature lasagna and a little weak weenie with crab Bianco and in the end she went with the baked lasagna oh my goodness the size of that piece on the plate we took half home. She certainly enjoyed her. For me, I went with the veal Catherine, the medallions veal with shrimp, lump crab meat, and fresh tomato and a Bianco sauce the plating presentation I can't describe you'll just have to see my photograph. I've never seen it like this before and it was extremely tasty. Very tender I would certainly get that dish again. And since I am not a pasta eater, I ordered a side vegetable of broccoli Rob. And we ordered a bottle of the Italian Montepuliciano wine, what was the perfect compliment to our dinner? And this was my birthday. My wife was surprising me she had already pre-ordered their homemade tiramisu with ladyfingers, which would wind up taking with us cause we were kind of full and had later that night at one of our favorite coffee houses in Philly and boy that dessert was perfect and I'm glad we waited. Again, everybody was smiles, friendly, and helpful. The place of spotless and you really feel like you're in someone's home. It was actually a birthday dinner too, Maria and Mariangeli were treating Chef Dionicio and me for our birthdays, so we were already looking forward to a good night, and Fiorella definitely delivered. We sat outside and honestly, that might be the way to do it. Really nice setup, relaxed South Philly atmosphere, good drinks on the table, good food coming out, and you're just hanging out with friends. Nothing felt rushed. We ordered a bunch of things to share and try. The arancini were great, and the pork belly & octopus skewer was probably one of the more interesting things we had. I wouldn't normally think of putting those two together, but it worked. Then the pasta came out. The ravioli with lamb, peperonata and caciocavallo was really good, and the rigatoni with Fiorella sausage ragu was one of those dishes where you keep going back for another bite even though you're already getting full. And don't sleep on the focaccia and olive oil either. Simple, but so good. We definitely weren't letting that go to waste. Drinks were great too. They have some interesting cocktails instead of just the same stuff you see everywhere, which I appreciated. The staff also deserves a shoutout. Everyone was friendly and attentive, but they gave us space to enjoy ourselves. That's a big thing for me. When you're having dinner with friends, you don't want to feel like you're being pushed through the meal so they can flip the table. By the end of the night, it wasn't even just about the food anymore. We were outside in South Philly, eating some really good Italian food, having drinks, laughing, celebrating two birthdays and just enjoying each other's company. Those are the dinners you remember. Secondi: duck breast 3.5/5 a lot saltier than i expected and i've had salty duck before. it was ok would not get again but it was cooked very well. american waygu 3.5/5, good but basic, what you would expect. Dolci: the dessert was a bit disappointing, Ricotta cheesecake and chocolate budino were both 2.5-3/5, would recommend trying their other desserts instead. ambiance: could get a little loud when ppl start to get drunk off wine (especially with their wine pairings) so we would have to raise our voice to hear each other. service: generally friendly and what you would expect if you're paying $400+ for dinner but as mentioned, since we weren't treated like the other guests, i'd give it a 3/5 :) would i come back? debatable. but im glad to have tried it to know since this restaurant is famous in the area. this is the feedback id give to all my friends that want to try vetri.

Super nice quality efficient service. Very tasty course dinner that left us full!…read more Drinks were pretty solid.
