Fun place to pop into on Main St. good beer selection and great food options for people that want bar food but with a twist! Service was attentive. The food was ok but crazy expensive for the quality and amount. It's on the menu but easy to miss that the prices are CASH prices. The customers pay for the restaurants card charges. Automatic tips for tabs over $85 but it's never mentioned by the server, nor is it listen on the receipt. The receipt even still had the section for tip for 20%, 22%, or 25% which is INSANE to include if you're already being charged the tip fee.... $168 for lunch for 4 people is wild, especially because we didn't have any alcohol which is what usually jacks the bill price. Mac & cheese egg rolls-crispy and gooey cheese with a buffalo cheese dip. Very bland without the dip. Mozzarella triangles fried cheese- very cheesy and crispy. Not much flavor. The cutlet was stellar as expected but the vodka pasta was more of a straight up red sauce. The baseline for vodka pasta in the area is L'angolo, Maria's and pinas. As for the pizza it was my first time ordering a circular pie from bar jawn. The grandma is amazing and has been my go to for years. This pie was cut like tavern style and not typical 8 slices. Welcome to Bar Jawn in Manayunk small corner bar packed with color and flavor. Cheery bold primary colored sticker laden tables and chairs fill the sidewalk welcoming you into the small bar where a long communal high top table and a handful or more colorful 2 tops offer seating alternatives to the bar. Bar Jawn probably only has room for 30 or so people inside so there is a 90 minute limit. As far as friendliness goes. Bar Jawn is what you would expect from its name and decor. Super friendly. A nice family run place with the kids helping out with table service and bussing. The place is clean and food is served on mismatched China another fun detail. Sadly the food did reach the same level as the vibe and service. The chicken cutlet was overcooked, the cheese steak meat was dry and the bland cottage fries got too soggy under the meat and peppers. I had a lovely experience at Bar Jawn. Came on a weeknight and we were sat immediately. The restaurant is a small space, but it's very hip. Feels like a cool neighborhood joint with fun decor. Service was attentive and checked in as needed. The food was a step up!! Elevated bar food with some Italian flair. We tried the smash burger with fries, and a jawn cutlet sandwich with caesar salad. Good BIG BACK activities going on here. I started with the Triangle Mozzarella Sticks, and they were definitely a hit--the cheese pull was a solid 10/10. Initially craving a sandwich, I found they only had seeded buns. However, our waiter was fantastic and suggested having any sandwich served over fries instead. The bill was ridiculous! $172.00 for what? The 20% gratuity charged for bills over $85 is insane. Why are people being penalized for spending more money? It makes no sense. I would think it would be tacked on for checks under $85, not the other way around. The menu said a 20% gratuity would be added to parties of 6 or more, so why was it added to ours? Ordered online for delivery, they said my order would be delivered at 5p. At 5p I get a text message saying it was cancelled, and my only option is to contact the store. I have called 10 times- no one has answered. I am livid. This is unacceptable for a real business..I will never eat here again and will share this experience with anyone else who lives in the area and advise against them also eating here. As far as a bar experience goes - this is a must visit. I think to be successful down on main street manayunk, you have to have a clear differentiator. While the bar itself may feel like any other down this strip (TV's for sports, nice draft list, indoor/outdoor seating), they really take it to another notch with their menu. My friend and I literally had to mentally plan in advance, what we wanted to order, because there was so much we were interested in. They certainly have a lean towards "Italian" style dishes (pasta, meatballs, chicken parm, etc.) but they somehow have also kept it rooted in a casual bar finishing. I don't know where to best guide you - my advice would be to close your eyes, point to a couple places on the menu, and you'll probably be happy. We tried their meatball egg rolls, which I think are a clear stand out here. Not only is it a creative take on meatballs, but they are cooked perfectly - crispy on the outside, tender on the inside - and positioned standing up on a bed of red sauce. Their sauce is delicious and it's a genius play for that first bite being smothered and every nook and cranny being packed with flavor. Their south philly chopped cheese and jawn cutlet sandwich are what we chose to split, and both were bomb. Flavors hit, but they also didn't skimp on any of the ingredients. While some of the other dishes we had were good, we didn't feel as impressed by them. The mac & cheese was kind of basic - and with how creative they are with their sandwiches and additional app's, this is one that can kind of get lost in the mix of "memorable dishes." Different strokes for different folks - they serve is more of a "soupy" cheesy dish - I think a panko crusted top would make a big difference. Also, the cheesecake egg rolls. Served similar to the meatballs, where they are cut in half and sit in a base (whipped cream base for the dessert.) I don't know if it's just the idea of having fried-cheesecake where it can feel a little over indulgent or too decadent. I think actually having fresh fruit added to it could help. It's good to have on the menu nonetheless, but not likely what we would go back for. One big compliment we usually have for restaurants we visit is can the answer be yes to "do we want to come back to try more things?" This is a definite yes for us, however, it did feel slightly limited for vegetarians. Definitely worth checking out! read more

small but hip spot located in downtown manayunk! the menu was quite large, there were so many things that i wanted to order, my friend and i had a hard time choosing. we started with the frozen cocktails which were delightful for a hot day. for our appetizer, we got the mango habanero wings with a side of ranch which were tender and had the perfect amount of spice. for our mains, we both got the jawn 2.0 m which was the largest, most insane sandwich i have ever seen. the sandwich contained two smash patties, shaved ribeye, fried mozzarella, a cutlet, and more. our waitress suggested that we share one order but we thought we were hungry and each ordered our own... lesson learned, we had leftovers for days. the sandwich itself was quite delicious albeit extremely dense and difficult to eat, and the fries were perfectly crispy and satisfying. overall a solid spot! the service was quick, and our waitress was amazing. we definitely should have taken her suggestion and split the jawn 2.0. i'd be interested in trying some of their other menu items! read more

I've lived in Manayunk for the last 5 years and only been here 2 times and the 2nd time, I remember why I don't go anymore compared to all the other great places on Main Street Food is delicious, service is always friendly and great, drinks were good but continue reading... The owners seem like they're just trying to put all their expenses on customers...On the menu, it says something like "all credit card charges are customers responsibility". First, that is against the credit cards companies user agreement, they are not legally allowed to put those expenses on customers and can be reported for it. The prices on the menu aren't correct since they tack those charges onto each individual item so $14 turns into ~$14.42 on the bill. Then there is a 20% auto gratuity on bills $85+ and for 2 ppl, that's easy to reach. After all that, they charge you sales tax AND 10% LIQUOR TAX!!! Also, if you know the previous bar that was there, it looks exactly the same still inside. The host sat us down quickly by the window which was cute. The menu changes weekly so you'll likely have something new each time you go. The menu was cool with a variety of choices. But baybee the wings...the only food that called my hunger was soo dry and not well cooked. Didn't eat it. Checked out new ownership and testing menu over at Bar Jawn (soon to be formerly manayunk tavern) My wife and I decided to share everything - so we got the stuffed long hots (no picture but take my word they were delicious), cheesesteak, and drunk chicken parm and some cocktails Stuffed long hots - everything tasted fresh and the sauce had a little kick to which I definitely enjoyed. Good appetizer to share Cheesesteak - good roll and meat quality but no onions and pretty light cheese. Not sure if fried onions are available as an option but would love to be able to add! Drunk chicken parm - insane plate. Chicken parm was juicy and crispy and delicious; Pasta was prepared perfectly and the vodka sauce had the perfect spice to it. Worth the price tag on the big plate because it's definitely enough to share Frozen limoncello - never heard of this until bar Jawn and I like to think I'm pretty well versed in cocktails. I ordered the buffalo chicken eggs rolls. They were smothered in hot sauce and salt to the point where I could not finish them. There were also only 2 egg rolls but in half for $18. I also ordered the Caesar salad with chicken. The salad had pieces that were slightly brown. It was smothered in dressing - way more than I would have ever put on my salad.
