Finally got to Medium Rare after it being on my list for months!! With all the snow, we had a bit of trouble getting up there, I called to let them know we'd be late and they we're incredibly accomdating and understanding. The space is huge with countless tables and a large bar area. Depending on where you're sitting, you can see right into the kitchen which is a fun touch. Our server, Macey, was lovely! She explained how everything worked and was super attentive and fun. The food was awesomeeeee. I expected the steak frites to be the star of the show, which it was, but the starter salad was shockingly good. Our steak was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. If you're not into a peppercorn sauce, make sure to give them a headsup as the first round it comes on the steak. Such a fun touch that they come by with more fries and steak as you need it. For two meals and two drinks, our bill came to under 100 bucks which is great for everything we got. Will definetly be back soon to try their brunch with 25 cent mimosas!

Happy New Year! Came here for a special New Year's Day event where we all had to wear pajamas for brunch lol. The food was pretty good and the drinks were amazing! They even had $5 espresso martinis and 25 cent Mimosas! We all got different things but I believe that between the whole group, we got almost every main dish item. I got the Benedict which had a steak & mushroom hash. Wasn't horrible but had a unique taste. I wouldn't order it again but I won't say I disliked it. My other friends ordered the steak & eggs and the French toast & sausage. Tasted a piece of all of them and they all were pretty tasty. I'd def go to this restaurant again and I heard that there's a New York location?! Ambiance was cool! Bright, inviting and they still had the Christmas vibes going. Service was pretty good as well; very attentive and interactive!

Heard a lot of good things about this place and went on a Saturday for brunch. The bread at the start was great. Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside. The butter was a little salty since they finish it with coarse salt on top, which might be great for some people. The salad was fresh and well done. The parfait was actually amazing. Lots of granola if that's your thing, and the jam and yogurt combo was really nice. We ordered the steak and fries and the eggs Benedict. The steak and fries were well cooked but way too salty for me. The fries were slightly soggy, though the flavor was still there. Had to have my partner finish it instead. The eggs Benedict, unfortunately, was the biggest miss. The flavors were very sour and just didn't work together at all. The meat was overcooked and had an unpleasant flavor. The egg itself was runny and tasty, so I ended up just focusing on that and pushing the rest aside. I didn't finish it. Cocktails were great, and the 25¢ deal is honestly a steal. They also offer mocktails, which I really appreciated as someone who doesn't always drink but still wants the vibe. Service was excellent. Very attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The atmosphere was on point. High-end but quirky, very Fishtown, very millennial-coded. The music fit the space perfectly. Overall, it's a great spot for brunch vibes, drinks, and atmosphere. I just wouldn't go in expecting the food to be the main highlight.

    Sangria

Medium rare was a fun place for a birthday dinner with friends. The menu is simple, a prefixe menu with bread, salad, steak and fries. I started with a specialty sangria which was sweet. The food was all fresh. Steak was decent, but I loved the sauce. The best part is once you're done with your first dish, they pile more steak and fries on your plate. Everyone at the table had a good portion to take home! The bathroom was interesting, as they had a French language lesson playing on the speaker.

Came for brunch for my friends birthday. We were a large party, so she had to do an events buyout for our table, even though the place wasn't busy. The service was great and the food was alright. The sauce was very overpowering so everything on the plate had the same taste. While my fries were perfectly salted, there were some people at our table that had super salty fries.

Brittany was amazing. She was attentive, personable and on point with timing of drinks and food. The food is great! They keep it simple. The salad was the first course and well dressed salad with tasty, possibly in-house made bread. Simple paper tablecloth with server writing what you want to keep runners together. If you are a 'medium well / well done' person, get 'medium'. The steak is thinly sliced. And you get TWO rounds. Let me make this clear, 1 salad, 2 steaks and 2 fries for one fixed price The fries are well seasoned and the second round is even better. They have a gravy and I ask for it on the side to dip. It puts you in the mind of a peppercorn gravy. Tasty however I'm glad I was dipping and not drowning in it. I'd definitely come back again. Brittany sold us on brunch so we have to check that out one day. Ps- this place is cute. Open floor style with funny bathroom pics and you can learn French while you tinkle. Ha!

It's not often I go to Fishtown for a meal (or much else for that matter) simply for the parking issue. Medium Rare lured me down here with their promise of delectable steak frites. We booked a table on open table and with fingers crossed and bated breath we braved Fishtown. Parking: horrendous- even with handicapped plates. We found a spot four blocks over with 2 hour parking so lingering over our meal or grabbing dessert was not an option. Ambiance: Loud, tightly packed tables. Both indoor and outdoor dining, clean and industrial. Slightly off that some of the prep area was accessible by patrons. Service: Polite, attentive - orders are written on the table - there is a quite limited menu so the likelihood of an error is difficult Food: a full five stars on the frites and eggs - they may have single-handedly ruined scrambled eggs for me forever. Light, fluffy and plated so perfectly in a cute little ball. Fishtown chaos is a special kind of purgatory; Medium Rare makes it heaven on the other side. Our experience was a pleasant one and one worth recommending. I personally recommend brunch over dinner just for the few extra options on an extremely limited menu.

My friends and I loved our time at Medium Rare. The service was great, the drinks were strong, and the food was solid!! The value was honestly unbeatable. They start you off with bread, then a salad, and two BIG servings of steak frites. The steak was cooked perfectly to our liking and that sauce is sooooo good I honestly was drowning my steak and fries in it. The fries were definitely salty-not my fave but other than that they were really good. The blackberry sangria I had was sooooo tasty. My friends had the hibiscus margarita and the hot apple cider. Also super good. Kate our server was so friendly and personable! I mentioned that we were celebrating and the team made my friend feel really special and even brought out ice cream with a big sparkler in it for him! Definitely will be going back. Super interested in trying their brunch.

It's always fun discovering new spots. Based on previous reviews I didn't go in with high expectations, but we enjoyed our meal here. It's simple. Loved the fries. Thankfully we liked the secret sauce (like a tangy gravy). Desserts were delicious (key lime pie and chocolate cake). The space was nice and service was great. My husband and son really enjoyed it and said they'd wanna come back which means something! The portions are smaller so getting seconds is gimmicky but that's totally fine, it worked on us. ;) The bazooka gum at the end was awesome- the last time I chewed one of these was like 40 years ago. Lol So it was fun sharing this with my teenage son. :) it's the little things I appreciate.

We went to the opening of medium rare and had ourselves a time. The opening was met with champagne at the door, great vibes via the servers personalities and music. The owner is an absolute gem to speak with! Overall I think the steak and frites was delicious and perfectly straight to the point. That sauce was a dream. The ice cream sundae was definitely worth a risk as someone who's lactose intolerant but was it absolutely worth it Only thing that prevents me from doing 5 stars is that while the restaurant was busy it wasn't swamped. We ended up waiting about 45 mins to get out glass of wine and about 20 more minutes after that to receive our food after we asked about its whereabouts I would avoid getting the salad as it was a fairly dry generic salad that probably could've not been included on the pre-fixe menu

Medium Rare, a prix fixe steak house, had some good points and some oddities. We spent much of the meal trying to figure out who Medium Rare was created for (decided it was for those who preferred a casual, quirkier steak house at a lower price point), why the "wink wink" attitude toward seconds (it was in the Inquirer, so it's not a secret), and why was the table (and our orders) diagrammed on the table (initially we thought it was so the server/bus people wouldn't need to interrupt conversation to serve, because they would consult the diagram, but that didn't turn out to be the case) The house bread and butter was great--nice crust. The salad was fine. The fries were terrific--cripsy and well-seasoned. The steak was cooked almost to the temperatures requested and came pre-sliced and drenched in a steak sauce. I prefer my steak to be allowed to speak for itself: salt-and-peppered with a hard sear. I suggest that the sauce either be served on the side or each diner asked if they wanted sauce. Likewise, instead of automatically bringing seconds for everyone (I was leaning toward not having seconds in favor of dessert), it'd be more cost effective if the server asked who wanted seconds (and of what, perhaps only fries or only steak) and then brought out plated seconds (rather than having a bus person squat next to the table to tong-serve pre-sliced steak and then fries onto each diner's plate one grip at a time). The desserts were good: the "Matilda" chocolate cake had the most praise--upsold a scoop of vanilla ice cream to cut the chocolate. The key lime pie had a nice flavor. The ice cream sundae looked impressive, but was mostly whipped cream, and the toppings needed to have been applied more evenly--one side was hot fudge, the other side was walnuts, so no bite was equal. Overall, the space was trendy (if loud with only hard surfaces) and service was friendly. If you're looking for steak at a good price in Fishtown, then Medium Rare is your spot.

Service was amazing; friendly, informative, communicative. Kathryn was very attentive and personable, and many other staff checked on our table. We sat outside which was quiet and charming. For the price, it's the best value brunch in Fishtown. The food was good but the kitchen is still working out some kinks (this is only the second weekend they're open for brunch) but I think once they hit their stride it'll be a 5 star spot for sure. I am so glad there is a place like this in the neighborhood. We will definitely come back for dinner!

Came here during opening weekend and there was no wait. The menu was straight forward. Everything tasted great & fresh. Our server Marcus is a huge character-- funny & sweet. & to our surprise, Marcus came back out with another serving of steak & frites. The bread is also a highlight- it is a mix between sourdough & focaccia. They have outdoor seating in their back patio & shade.

If you're in the mood for something bold and boozy, I also recommend The Golden Ticket. The only sad thing is that my favorite bartenderess is no longer there, but the staff is still awesome, and the music is always on point, which keeps the vibe strong. Just a heads-up: this cocktail bar is upstairs from Sassafras, and the menus are completely different. If you're looking for a true craft cocktail experience, make sure you're upstairs at 48 Record Bar. The atmosphere is great. I usually go on Saturday nights around 8 p.m. and have been lucky to grab a seat, though it definitely gets more crowded later. The fact that I've been back several times says a lot--especially since I usually only visit a place once with so many options in the city.

The main dining room is pretty narrow without much in the way of decor, and I think more could be done to help the space pop, but as always the food is my main concern in the end. The complimentary crunchy corn snack for the table was a nice surprise! We ordered an app, a ceviche, and four entrees to share between the six of us and found that plenty filling. The Yuca Frita app was tasty with a delicious dip we held on to, but I wish it came with more as six pieces felt small for the price. The Ceviche Mixto was a more solid portion with a great variety of seafood; it was on the tart side but came with a really nice cilantro sauce that the table ate clean. Out of our entrees, the Lomo Saltado was the highlight with well-cooked and tender chunks of steak and yummy fries (simple, I know). The Pescado a Lo Macho and Arroz con Mariscos were very generous portions with a ton of various seafood; even the fried fish dish came with shrimp, mussels, and scallops on top. The Aji de Gallina was maybe the least noteworthy entree, a chicken stew with cassava and rice, but even that was hearty and filling. Service was good throughout with plenty of water refills, and the cost was surprisingly reasonable for what we ordered. I'd definitely recommend this place for seafood lovers, and I'd be interested in coming back to try the roast chicken and to have the lomo saltado and ceviche again!
