Brought our son and his GF to dinner here during our Independence week visit. Of course we came in on Saturday and completely missed the happy hour I had so planned to enjoy. Regardless, that didn't fit the kids' schedule so full price drinks and entrees it was. The kiwi cooler looked interesting to son, and a couple of canned beers were added to keep costs down. Had my eye on the striped bass with basmati entree and it was super! Piled high on the yellow rice, it was a lovely dish to behold. A really nice sear on the bass, fresh herbs, quite excellent. Husband chose the Louisiana Chicken Skewers which came with red beans and rice. Although plentiful, he found the rice to be dry and didn't want to take it home with his leftover skewer. Son ordered the steak Mac and cheese, which was rare steak strips on top of which cheesy shells. He wasn't thrilled with the rare meat, and had a LOT OF TROUBLE chewing the steak even after cutting it into bites. Should have sent it back but too polite. His GF ordered the General Tso Chicken Sandwich and it was a big hit! Huge craggy crusty chicken breast and spicy sweet sauce on a fluffy bun with a huge pile of extra brown rustic French fries. So the food is hit or miss, and my memory has failed me for details about the service. Popped in here for early dinner and had a pleasant experience. A few different vibes going on, both in the atmosphere and the menu. The downstairs feels more like a bar while the upstairs was a bit nicer. It was pretty cozy in there, especially with the snowfall. The apps and mains are truly all over the map. We started with the fried pickles. It came with a gochujang sauce. We also shared the Detroit style pizza which was pretty solid/authentic. They had a decent cocktail/beer selection as well. Their website indicates this might be Detroit style pizza which I've never had before, never have seen it either. But it had good reviews and I knew other local places with gf pizza aren't much good. Again, I've never had it before so I don't know if Detroit style pizza always has so little cheese, but the center of this pizza was all sauce, almost like how tomato pie looks. I had gotten a simple pepperoni pizza. It was rectangle and thick, similar to deep dish but different. While thick, it was lighter, very airy. I've had that texture once in Vegas and loved this almost as much, definitely prefer it to Chicago style deep dish. But the real star, was the flavor. Even the pieces that didn't have any cheese on it were sooooo good! Whatever they do to their crust and their sauce, I hope they never stop! This was last week when I ordered and it's the one food I've been thinking about since. The only thing holding me back is vacation next week. We noticed that this restaurant had a table outside and the menu looked good. The excellent server seemed to be happy and got everything right with our order. We ordered the hush puppies, which were fair. I am picky about my hush puppies. Hush puppies are better in the southern states. I had the bread pudding French toast, and it was the most delicious French toast that I had ever tasted. My husband agreed with me. My husband had pork tacos. They had an outstanding favor, and were seasoned exceptionally. My future daughter-in-law had a biscuit sandwich with some fries. I tried the fries. The fries needed some extra salt. My son had an excellent-looking pizza, which was to die for. When we go back here, I am going to order French toast again, and perhaps a pizza to take home.
