I had a very nice (although unexpected) stay at the Bar Harbor Regency. I had made reservations at another area hotel and upon check-in was told my reservation had been moved. I've stayed in a lot of the area hotels over the years and haven't had this happen before, although it's probably not uncommon during peak season, the first weekend in August. There was no waiting at check-in, just after 3pm, although I suspect because check in was most likely actually at 4 pm. My first floor room, an ocean front king, was clean and cool. There was a view of the pool and ocean, yet it was far enough away to be quiet, away from the noise at the busy pool area. The outside of the building isn't what I'd call attractive, however, the grounds are neatly landscaped and the view of the ocean and pool is lovely. It's dog friendly; although I left mine at home, I could hear dogs barking in some rooms as I left for dinner but it wasn't a problem as it was silent at night. I was given a $15 breakfast voucher for the restaurant (I suspect because the reservation at the original hotel included breakfast) but didn't use it because I got up and checked out early to go hiking in Acadia. Check out was problem free as well. It is close to College of the Atlantic and a bit of a walk from town. I would recommend the BH Regency and would stay there again. read more

We chose this hotel since it's dog friendly (view website for restrictions) and $75 fee. They had just opened that day from Covid restrictions. It is only like a 3-5 minute drive to downtown Bar Harbor and 5 minutes max to get to Acadia. I have always found parking in Bar Harbor (coin or app parking meters -free after 8pm, free until noon Sundays) Free hotel parking, we were upgraded to oceanfront room and had free breakfast (La Bella Vita). The oceanfront views were AWESOME!!!! The landscaping and grounds are beautiful!!! There is a pretty path to walk in front, nice outdoor heated pool, hot tub and water splash area and a tiki bar with an extensive resort like fun drink menu. Stewmans has a restaurant on site (closed when we were there), with outdoor seating options and a La Bella Vita here which also serves the breakfast. This is an IHG brand under Holiday Inn but much nicer than I expected. Our floor and room must have been updated. Room amenities: Iron and ironing board, in room safe, hair dryer, Kcup machine, fridge, we had a balcony with 2 chairs and a little table. There's tennis courts on site and coin operated laundry. There is an Island Explorer stop here (though not running when we were there). We also Olys Trolley parked on the side so not sure if they normally run from here. Most people "patrons" on site wore masks and all staff did. There was no automatic housekeeping service you could call ahead for it, or just get more towels, etc. They have you fill out a form verifying you are not sick or have symptoms. read more

Such a garbage business. First of all, I get that this is owned and ran by IHG. I'm not oblivious to this fact. This hotel will charge you for a penthouse, have you thinking for 7 months that it'll be a penthouse - but won't put you in the penthouse! They will instead stick you in an "unrenovated" which really just means "forgotten about" suite, which won't have basic amenities that you can get in the regular guest rooms...don't be gaslit into thinking they told you ahead of time and communicated - cause they didn't! The hotel staff for the most part are kind and do what they can. The manager however, I understand is ruled by her corporate overlords. Not a great person to interact with. I would say much more but I can't. We would've changed hotels if everything hadn't been literally sold out here. Flights back home are limited, we couldn't even leave early if we wanted. What a terrible experience. The restaurant here is nice. Otherwise, don't bother. Everything in this hotel is an afterthought. I really felt like I was stuck in an episode of Hotel Hell. This has been the very worst hotel experience I have ever had. I purchased 3 nights in an upgraded ocean view King. Upon check in, they downgraded my room due to THEIR issue, then transferred me to an "upgraded" room for the next 2 nights. I prepaid for all three nights. I deserve a credit for the 1st night down graded room which I had to fight for. Next thing they want to charge me for the 3rd night which has already been paid. This is clearly heading to a dispute with my credit card company. Pain in the ass. The property is nice but the service sucks, no room service either. The walls are thin and noisy. I was put in the Eden House when other members of my party were in the main house. The room I had was on the first floor and smelled mildewy. The bedding smelled and all the pillows smelled of dirty hair. I asked it I could switch rooms and was told all the rooms were filled. While I was at the desk, I heard other people had rooms switched. So, on top of an awful room, I was lied to. I don't recommend anyone staying at this establishment! I was very pleased with our stay at The Holiday Inn Bar Harbor Regency. It was not fancy but very clean and service was friendly. The location was less than 3 minutes down the road from Acadia National Park, and also within a very short drive to many restaurants. The grounds are ocean front (although it is not a 'beach'). We had breakfast overlooking the ocean. I'd definitely book this one again. read more

Eden House is the run down motel building at the corner of the property with no security or front desk. Toilets are gross, garbage and dirty dishes were left in hallways for days, and it smelled. We were traveling with a tour group and stayed here for two nights. The hotel is water front with a beautiful view. The room we stayed in came with a refrigerator which is always good to have and was clean and comfortable. After enjoying the day in town we decided to stay in the hotel for dinner. We dined at the Italian restaurant La Bella Vita which was not only convenient but delicious with water front views. The location of the hotel is near the Acadia National Park which is a big plus. read more

We were so happy with our stay here. I booked an ocean view room last minute and was skeptical due to it being a holiday inn. Surely the pictures on the web site are making it look better than it really is. False!! What a beautiful property. We had such a great stay and no complaints, although I will list a few cons given some of the other reviews did point them out too: Pros: Right on the water with amazing views Two on site restaurants (one Italian one lobster shack) Awesome breakfast buffet Beautiful and very clean pool and hot tub Friendly and knowledgable staff Nice walk to downtown Large property with lots of areas set up for viewing Very nice tennis courts Free bus to downtown and other areas Tiki bar by the pool with great food/drinks Cons: There was no elevator in the building we stayed in, but it's only 3 floors so didn't make a difference to us other than slightly inconvenient when we had to pack up the car. First and foremost : Kendra at the front desk is phenomenal. There was a technical glitch with ordering food via the phone and she handled it like a pro . Absolute professional. The room is subpar given that I paid 550 a night. I was excited and expected more out of a 550 room. They charge a 75 pet fee per night fee which is ok but I can't Justify what I paid for room itself. The waterfront is beautiful but I've rented a whole beautiful house for 550 a night . This room is more like a $145 room a night with a nice view so even $200 would be justified. Great customer service, just expected more out of the room itself . read more

Bad attitude at desk. No internet and they will not even do a restart of the router. Maids stole our food our Trident refrigerator and the hotel does not have the restaurants as advertised. No Lobster. In Bar Harbor!!! Okay some salad with bits but not a tail and claws. Poor management for the high price they charge. Advertise a slum dog motel as wings do not have elevators. Pure lies. I was a little leery about booking here because of the many negative reviews. Just from looking at the pictures, the property looked nice and it was about $50. cheaper than the #1 rated hotel in Bar Harbor. I hadn't planned on being inside much anyway, so I figured what the heck! We stayed for three nights. The check in process went smoothly and there was a friendly young guy from Bulgaria to help with our luggage. We were there before the official start of the season so it wasn't crowded or the negative reviews scared people off. Due to this we were upgraded from the part of the hotel that is less desirable to an ocean front room. I was super excited about that! The room was nice, clean and spacious and the views were amazing. We also had a small balcony. There are two restaurants and a tiki bar on the property. Only the Italian restaurant was open while we were there and it seemed to have a steady flow of people but we never tried it. There is a nicely heated swimming pool and hot tub. There were laundry facilities with four washers and four dryers. It was $2.50 per load and was very clean. They have vending machines for detergent but I had brought my own so I didn't notice the price. A change machine was also there. There was a small workout room and a play area with a ping pong table and foosball table and some games. It locked and you had to have a key to enter which I liked. All of the employees were super friendly! The house keeping staff was great and very friendly. I would stay here again!! read more

We had an amazing stay here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel has two restaurants and a tiki bar with lighter fare. They have a large pool near the tiki bar overlooking the ocean. There is also a free shuttle bus that will pick you up right in front of the hotel and take you into Bar Harbor. You can take other shuttles when you get into Bar Harbor that will take you to other parts of the area, including Acadia National Park. Because of all of this, we parked our car when we arrived and never had to drive anywhere. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. We had a king sized bed, mini fridge, safe, a table and chairs, one large chair, flat screen T.V. with many channel options and the bathroom was fully stocked with everything you could need. Everything was clean and very comfortable. We dined at La Bella Vita Ristorante twice and had wonderful meals both times. The bartender made an amazing hurricane. I had ordered one at the Tiki Bar one night and it was really bad, all mix very little rum. I felt sick before I finished it. We never got to try Stewman's Lobster Pound. We will definitely be coming back here to stay on our next vacation to Bar Harbor. read more

Some background: I spend on average half the month in hotels, different ones each night. No complimentary breakfast, no complimentary coffee, no internet (broken and there seems to be no plans to fix it, at least there was no urgency from the front desk) no food within walking distance except for the overpriced restaurants for the quality of food (~$13-16 range on the cheaper side). Phones don't work. The carpets (at least in my room) smell heavily of cleaning products causing me to wake up with a splitting headache on a mattress I would estimate is about 20 years old. To give you an idea of how much soap is still in the carpets, I can slide on them. In my shoes. I can slide on the carpet in my shoes. Ended up paying $2 for the "barista" to pump "coffee" out of a thermos for breakfast. Luckily I carry some emergency snacks in the case of hotel experiences like these. In the end, I would have rather stayed at a no-name motel. At least they're up front about what you're going to experience. read more

Great views by the pool... But shockingly there are no umbrellas for the chaise lounge chairs. Double rooms have 2 full sized beds, not queens. Bedding is just ok. Worst experience at a holiday inn property. Would be a great place if it was $59 a night. The staff is rude and not helpful. Our room smelled like nobody has been in it in months. Our AC unit doesn't work properly and I asked for them to fix it. They said it would be the best day at the earliest. I asked for a new room and they said that was not possible. The rooms do are old and our of date. Bar Harbor is beautiful and amazing. Don't stay here and let it put a damper on your trip! My advice is stay somewhere else at all cost! read more

I'll start at the beginning and we've been here less than 24 hours!!!!! The bathroom fan sounded like a freight train, Soooo loud and out of balance but no one seemed to give a shit so I unplugged it. The one and only garbage can in the room is about 1.5 gallons. Come on, give us a REAL garbage can. People make garbage, so I've been carrying my garbage to the can down the hall. What a crock of shit. The air conditioner filters looked like they haven't been cleaned in a year so I cleaned them myself. We have had to have no less than 4 magnetic keys remade because they just would not work. The ice maker down the hall sounds like a freight train Soooooo loud. Glad our room is not too close to that. They put us in not the main building but a building about 700 feet away. The super small refrigerator sits on the floor so when you open the door it rubs on the carpet and you have to pry it open and closed. I solved the problem by folding their magazine in half and shoving it under the front of the refrigerator. Obviously the owners and managers of this hotel do not care one bit about functionality, only money. Stay tuned. We'll be here 5 days total. Complimentary coffee from 6 AM to 7 AM WOW thanks for that. What do you want for an average price of $140/night. I am not rating the AREA I am rating THE HOTEL like YELP is intended for. read more

I booked a King room for Aug 2 2014 which is prepayed, non cancellable room, when I check in at 6pm Aug 2, the guy at front desk told me that they don't have King room available, they need to switch me to double bed room (room num 2005), it was too late to book another hotel, I have to take it. I was not happy about this, not sure why it is happening. after I back home, I want to check my rewards point online, and there are no point added, every info about my Aug 2 stay is gone. KEEP READING IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO FIX THE WIFI. Before that I'll just say that the hotel is just fine. Pricey because of the location. Rooms are clean and spacious. Staff is friendly. Decor is a bit dated but I don't really care about that. I came here to see Acadia and Bar Harbor, not a hotel room. Now, for the WiFi: it's not going to work worth a crap if you don't complete these steps. I've tried this on 5 iPhones and an iPad so idk about Android devices or laptops. Open your settings, go to WiFi, connect to Bar Harbor Regency, wait a sec...now it will ask for an access code (if it doesn't then you can skip ahead) type in "regency" lowercase and click Login. Click Done at the top of the screen. Now, beside the name of the WiFi network Bar Harbor Regency, click the "i" in a circle. Scroll all the way down to HTTP Proxy and click Configure. Change this to Automatic. Click Save. Now turn your WiFi off, then back on. A login screen should pop up and if you already typed the access code earlier then it should say "success" in tiny letters. If so then click Done and enjoy! If it now asks for the access code then type "regency" and click Login and you should then be good to go! After that the WiFi is great. I'm streaming Netflix on my iPad right now. Before changing that setting it was unusable. read more

Half the hotel is in a separate building and the buildings front door doesn't even lock-- anyone could walk in at any time and there is no doorman. They scammed us with the complimentary breakfast deal and claimed that it only covers 2 people for free breakfast no matter how many people are in your party -- no sign of this anywhere when I booked the hotel. Okay so to start off with the good. The grounds are pretty. It is right on the water. They have two different restaurants on site. It is also close to town, you can walk or take the trolly. So now with the bad... Rooming-Please make sure you read this part. I came and stayed with my family. We had two rooms booked. We get here and we are told that we have rooms next to each other in the eden building. This building is seperate from the main hotel. It kind of is like the leftover rooms. The building looks like an old office building. No balconies. They tell us it was recently renovated, but when we go in, there are still popcorn ceilings, the bed skirts are ripped, and there are stains everywhere on the carpet. One of our rooms had a 6 inch hole in the bed. Wifi-If you need reliable wifi do not come here. They have like twenty wifi networks but you cannot get onto any of them. I called down to the front desk and they gave me a number to call. I called and they told me it would be an hour wait. I am on vacation I do not have time to wait for an hour to talk to support so I can have wifi to communicate with work or family members who are in need. I did not need wifi for netflix or facebook but for talking with my family. When I did call the front desk they did not even offer any help other then that phone number. Products- For the pricing, everything is super overpriced (as any resort). I went to buy a bottled water from the vending machine and it was hot. I did not drink it but my family member did after icing it overnight. Another guest bought one and theirs was hot too. I called down to just politely let them know and they did not even apologize. They just said "Oh okay I will get that fixed" and hung up. So if you want good service, good ambiance and overall just a decent hotel do not come here. It was a bad experience. The manager, "Kendra" did nothing for us. She offered the four people in the room with the hole in the bed one drink voucher. Only two are actually of age, so that would've been a great refund for a hole ridden bed (it cost us $700 for both rooms: plus a hole ridden bed, no wifi, bad service, and hot drinks). Buy a pretty air bnb or a better hotel. Do not go here. read more

Extremely happy with our stay at the bar harbor regency. You really feel like you are taken care of. The staff was great, helpful and friendly. The property is well taken care of with beautiful ocean view rooms. The restaurant for dinner and breakfast were very good as well. Having a bus service that went right into town made things very convenient. I know my family will definitely be coming back. read more

I can't believe I actually have to write this. We arrive and they don't have the room we asked for, describing it as an "upgrade". It turns out to be a run-down building under construction, so we ask for a refund. After about an hour of waiting and arguing, we still can't get a refund, so we settle for a room costing $100 less than what we paid for. On top of that they won't even give us free breakfast. Long story short, there's plenty of other hotels in the area, please avoid this one. read more

Just came for drinks at the tiki bar, as the hotel we were at across the street did not have a bar. Two mixed drinks, off the menu, was about $22. The bar tender was super grumpy and there was NO alcohol in the drinks. Waste of time and money. My husband and I arrived at the Bar Harbor Regency on 10/1/2018 to check in for our honeymoon. Upon arrival, we were given hotel keys to an occupied room. Once were told the correct room and had the keys in hand we went up. Beautiful view! We quickly learned that there is no microwave in the room (forget bringing leftovers back to the hotel), there is 1 entertainment center in a King room that includes 2 shelves, 2 larges drawers and 2 small drawers. Mind you, were on our honeymoon for 5 days, not enough space to unpack your clothes for two people. One of the arms on our chair broken. Only 1 trashcan for the entire room. Forget sleeping in, the housekeepers like to slam doors at 9am whenever possible. By the time we reached Wednesday evening, we had done just about everything we had wanted to do and were debating on finishing out our stay or leaving. We were told to let the front desk know by 11pm so that we would be refunded for the time we didn't stay. About 10:15pm the fire alarm goes off, we tried to grab as much as possible and ran to the stairs and outside. We stood out front for about 20 minutes while the fire department showed up and left. There was never an announcement made that it was clear (good indication when the fire truck leaves), nor an explanation for the cause of the alarm. I told my husband I wanted to leave and we checked out the next morning. All of this to say, Planning a honeymoon on a budget or if you're into nature and photography like we are, choose a much, much nicer place to stay other than at Bar Harbor Regency. It was anything but a relaxing, romantic place to stay! All we got from the manager was "I'm sorry to hear that, hope you enjoy the rest of your day. " For $269 a night, you can do a heck of a lot better. Not to mention that the road out front is under construction & one way, so if you leave you have to go 5 miles out of your way to get back to the hotel. 2 stars are for the cleanliness, the view and the restaurant inside (good food & friendly people) read more

Bugs Found on Bed & Ants in Bathroom and Hallway! We just had 5-night conference (AAC) stay at this hotel, which is a terrible experience we never had before in any hotel in the US! We have found BUGS on bed and ANTS in the bathroom in a first-floor room; I killed the bug and brought it to the manager's attention. The manager (Colin -) on duty that night was nice and tried to comfort us with a free breakfast voucher and a promise of changing us to a 2nd/3rd-floor room. He tried to swap us to a different building; but on the way to that building [the bearman went with us] we found a BIG ANT in the hallway (the bearman killed it this time), so we decided to not move at that night. Instead, the house-keeper brought a bug-spray to spray the room. You can imagine how terrible smell my family (with my 9-year daughter) suffered that night! In the second morning, we "begged" the room change at the front desk. However, the front-desk service guy [Peter -- an Asian face (I have an Asian face too)] was so rude and claimed he did not understand us. At the end, we have spent the whole morning arguing and waiting for the room change! During this unpleasant process, a different manager [Andrea --] was brought to resolve the issue, who is totally unprofessional. She did not feel any sympathy and apology for the inconvenience caused totally by the Hotel! What she said is "you need to wait" and she did not even allow me to speak out the situation in the lobby. Around noon we eventually moved to the third floor for the last three nights; but unfortunately ants also showed up in the third-floor room. This time we did not bother to bring it to the manager's attention! What I terrible experience!! I would not recommend anybody to stay in that hotel in a million years, until changes are made by IHG!!! Now, it comes another surprise: when I came back to office for reimbursement, my secretary found the hotel charged me more than what she booked. My secretary tried to talk to them and get another corrected receipt and refund. Guess what? Instead refund they issued additional extra charge of $110 and claimed the reason for that was the room change! How could such business in the world exists!! So far, we are still trying to get this issue resolved with Holiday Inn Bar Harbor Regency...... read more

Stayed for six nights, and had a great stay. However, the only complaint was the indifferent and sometimes rude service from the baristas at the coffee/cafe in the main building. Each morning I went there for my group, I experienced young staff who were disinterested and seemed put out by any request by hotel guests. In fact, one day the barista closed the cafe early (because he had opened at 6:30 am) and felt that he could close down at 11 am. When guests began to line up at 11 am, he was forced to come back and made it known to all that guests should not have been served. It seems small, but every day we had a horrible experience in this cafe, and this put a negative spin on our stay. The hotel should consider either a huge attitude adjustment of this barista staff, or leaving complimentary coffee for guests. It should not be such a hassle to get coffee in the morning, or to be served basic requests. If there were a 7-11 nearby, I would have walked over to that, but we had no other choice but to endure the daily horrible service and attitude. When you see it's affiliated with Holiday Inn, you think bad things- room key operated elevators, small rooms, small beds, low quality TV, and a cheap breakfast buffet. But, when you arrive, it becomes clear it is not a Holiday Inn at all. The elevators are like the Great Glass Elevator from Willy Wonka with a clear glass back wall. The pool has a beautiful oceanside view, usually heated to 85 degrees, and has a Tiki Bar that will serve drinks and food from Stewman's Lobster Pound. Your room is complete with a balcony and great beds. The staff are really nice. And the breakfast? A gourmet buffet with delicious Blueberry Muffins made right in-house. The hotel has 2 restaurants, La Bella Vita Trattoria, and Stewman's Oceanfront Lobster Pound, that started out on the premises and are both now running successful locations in downtown Bar Harbor. La Bella Vita has delicious pizza with an open air seating area with an Oceanside view. Stewman's Lobster Pound also has an Oceanside View and serves fresh catches that come in straight from a fishing boat that arrives on a dock that is part of the restaurants. The dock is great also. You can walk straight down it and do some great sightseeing, or for me, birdwatching. There is a bus that runs out of the hotel for free to the Town Greens as part of the Acadia National Park "Island Explorer" transit system. read more

My husband had been staying at the Bar Harbor Regency with his family almost every two years for the past 31 years. After our experience this trip we will NEVER stay at the Regency again. We stayed here with our two young children for 5 nights. During our stay, housekeeping cleaned our room ONCE on the 2nd day. After that housekeeping did not clean our room despite multiple complaints to management and multiple explanations that our 2 year old son would need to take a nap every afternoon around 1PM. We were out of our room approximately 4-5 hrs each day and somehow this was not enough time for our room to be cleaned. We ended up getting our own clean towels, emptying out own garbages and I even asked for a vacuum so I could clean the room myself. We have gone on multiple vacations previously and have NEVER experienced such horrific customer service or housekeeping service. Every time we complained the management used the excuse that they had to prioritize the rooms that new guests would be coming jnto- so I guess once you've stayed one night here you are no longer a priority. Do yourself a favor and AVOID this hotel unless you want to be your own housekeeper for the duration of your stay. If you want a relaxing vacation and value customer service then do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on our honeymoon... We booked an ocean view and called a week ahead of time to make sure we had a nice room for our trip, to ask about the restaurants, and to alert the hotel that we would be arriving late (since our families had ordered some treats to be delivered to our room upon our arrival). We were assured that we "would have a perfect view for our honeymoon", that "2 of the 3 restaurants would be open" and that "our late arrival would be noted". None of these things were true... We were placed in a 2nd floor room where the view was blocked by the Proctor wing (the wing of the hotel with the best ocean views), only 1 of the 3 restaurants were actually open, and the treats ordered by our families had obviously been placed in the room and left to sit and spoil all day until our arrival around 8:00 pm. The front desk was extremely uninterested in their mess up and simply said "I don't know who you spoke to, there are no notes under your name stating that you called to make any requests"... When I asked about the closed coffee shop, they said "the italian restaurant has coffee", and when I went to get coffee at the Italian restaurant they said "we don't have the same coffee that the coffee shop has" and "the front desk shouldn't sell this hotel as a package with 3 restaurants because the other ones are rarely open". Overall this hotel is nothing more than your average Holiday Inn. Maybe at one time it could have been called a resort but with the current management and lack of the advertised amenities, you might as well stay at a local motel instead. read more
