The drip coffee was meh, for $5, I would've just gotten one outside by the drive through coffee shop. The service was prompt and friendly, however, we felt it was very pushy and rushing us although the restaurant was not busy and didn't look like there was a wait. Make a reservation to get table seating. We came in last minute because we saw great reviews on yelp and the fun looking cocktails. We were able to be seated immediately at the bar. We ordered drinks and some food. The food was underwhelming. For the price we did expect a little more in flavor. The Dumplings were soft and the noodles had a little spice, but did not have much of a wow factor for the price for us. The Dragon Claw drink had a good spice to it. We arrived without a reservation. I had no clue a reservation was even needed. I'd driven past this place that's in a strip mall thinking it's just a neighborhood spot, why would I need a reservation? The front door is basically in the parking lot. You make a reservation for a place you're actually looking forward to and I assure you, having eaten there now, I would not return much less make a reservation. The hostess was nice enough to offer us the bar which was fine. We don't mind sitting at a bar except that when you're at the bar, you're facing a back room bathroom door and you can smell the trash from the bus bin. I got the bulgogi mushroom tacos. The menu describes these has having a ton of different ingredients that sound interesting but the reality is they taste of just one thing - bulgogi sauce. That's it. One note flavor for $20. I got a side of crispy tofu which turns out are not crispy at all. My partner got a udon curry and he said it was "fine". Not a rave review. Definitely won't be returning. read more

Met a friend for dinner here and was able to get seated right away. The space is small, so there's not a lot of room on the table for more than a couple dishes, but we made it work. We shared the Korean Chicken Wings, which were pretty tasty, and I also had the Kalua Pork Rice Bowl, also good. The staff were kind but sometimes felt that they were tolerating guests rather than being welcoming or personable with them. I also noted that our glasses were cloudy, and my friend's glass already had a lip print on it before she even arrived - kind of concerning considering the glasses are pre-poured before being seated at the table. This small restaurant is a great Asian fusion spot in Edmonds. I've been here 3x now and have been pleasantly surprised by their dishes and cocktails. The place has a great selection of Asian inspired foods along with a list of specials served weekly (or monthly?). I highly recommend booking a reservation a few days in advance as they're always full both weekdays and weekends. I've managed to snag a spot at their bar without a reservation the last 2x I've gone during dinner hour. The soup dumplings, Brussels sprouts, yakisoba add katsu chicken, and homemade mac salad are some of favorites. I've also tried their beef rice bowl and tacos (on the speciality menu) which have been tasty as well. I haven't made it to happy hour yet, but it's on the list! it's been a while for me. it was a very satisfying dinner at Bar Dojo. the last visit was a satisfactory pre-covid happy hour visit, and a fabulously delicious and expensive Blended (Mushroom) Burger Project by James Beard in 2017. 3 of us met for dinner at 6 p.m. the restaurant was already near capacity with 2 open tables. our "reserved" table was occupied and we were not seated until 6:15. service: excellent. except for the reservation wait time, seating, greeting, delivery of water, orders for drinks, ordering the meals, dessert ordering, table clearing and check presentations were well-paced. when one of our party left the table before drinks were ordered. our server appeared immediately to take our dinner companion's drink order when he returned. ambience: Loud. felt crowded, especially at the door and the host station. surprisingly, plenty of room between tables to navigate to the restroom. gochujang artichoke wings: delicious. artichoke hearts cut to resemble chicken wing flats, breaded and fried, with an assertive spicy gochujang glaze tempered by eating the jicama cubes. the glase might be too spicy for some. $17 oysters aquachile: the aquachile was declared "very good" by our fellow diner from Mexico. un-named Taylor Shellfish Farms oysters $5 ea. pan seared scallops: 4 very large beautifully seared scallops. spicy gochujang sauce. $45 umami dojo burger: i had hoped this would be a reincarnation of the Blended Burger Project burger. i was not disappointed. the menu description seemed a bit busy, but the kobe beef flavor shined. the burger was not stacked so high that the bun held up and did not disintegrate under the weight of the burger ingredients. a definite win. i guess this is a burger i would split with a friend simply because of the price. $26 shoe string fries: perfect! noodle soups/ramen: still gun-shy from previous visits. maybe i will try them another time. passion fruit cheesecake: tangy and firm. gorgeous spun sugar presentation. $11. drinks: 22 oz Sapporo can $14. There's an unremarkable entrance from an isolated strip mall and then you find yourself embraced by warm service and presented with wonderful food. I went back to try Bar Dojo and found it true that I was there on an off night. Everything we had was great (although we had beer rather than cocktails so I can only speak to a couple dishes and dessert). The tofu and mushrooms dish came out nice and hot and had plenty of flavor without overdoing the salt. I would definitely get this again. The coconut prawns was a small but mighty dish with a punch of flavor and delicate sweetness that worked very well. The passionfruit cheesecake was decent although may a tad sweet by my standards (compared to the richness a cheesecake should have rather than sweetness), but I loved the "pop" of the passionfruit balls so much. Bottom line: I had a great experience and now see why this place has good reviews. Service was great and the food was great. I'm glad I returned to see how they can deliver! read more

We ordered a sampler platter that had a little of everything off their starter menu and while everything on here was delicious and aesthetically pleasing, it did come at a price of over $100. Entree portions were large and the Honey Adobo Rockfish I ordered was soft and moist on the inside and incredibly crunchy on the outside. Definitely a fun take on the more traditional sweet and sour cod you typically find in Chinese restaurants. I saw this place on social and have had it on my list for a while and decided it was finally time. We went to celebrate my husbands birthday as a family (kids and adults). Admittedly pulling up I was a little sketched out. It's in a little strip mall that is old and doesn't look like anything special. I was glad I didn't let this deter me because the food knocked our socks off! The menu had so many delicious things on it, it was hard to decide! I was glad there was a good kids menu, and the Dojo board called out to us because it gave us the opportunity to try a little bit of everything. For a family of 5 (3 adults 2 kids) we ordered the Dojo Board, a Kalua pork bowl and a kids salmon teriyaki and it was plenty. Some of our favorites were the poke tacos, avocado rice, bulgogi ribeye, and spam Mac salad. All the meats were super tender and the presentation of both the Kalua pork bowl and dojo board were nicely executed. Despite the massive amount of food we ate, there is more I still want to try! The crab and poke bowl and pork belly nachos are on my list for next time. We picked the ube coconut flan for birthday dessert. Hats off to whoever came up with that recipe, it was delicious! I came here three times. Each time was exceptional food. Ah, service was alright. Seemed that the service was not of the caliber of the kitchen. The first time , I came for brunch. I had the Pork Xiao Long Bao to start. Delicious pork filling in a juicy bun. The ginger rum smear with berries had a complex and not too sweet finish. It was perfect. Next trip, was inspired by brunch and came for dinner ice. First trip, could not resist ordering the coconut honey walnut prawns. One of my favorite dishes, This version was not the standard shrimp, walnuts and mayonnaise. This came with fried tempura white prawns tossed in our house made coconut honey sauce, candied walnut, scallions, pickled strawberries, crispy rice shell, cabbage slaw . How good does that sound? It was a nice explosion of tastes. This is a theme here, food tastes expanding your mouth horizons. After that, the birria tacos, with guajillo slow braised birria, queso Oaxaca, consomé, lime, citrus pickled red onions. What a incredible mix of ingredients. Next visit, the Crab and Poke Bowl, which has crispy softshell crab, ahi tuna poke, avocado rice, fresh vegetables, cilantro aioli, fried egg, crispy garlic, side tamari. I also ordered a Shiso Lovely. This ha gin, shiso tincture, lemon, coconut milk, aquafaba, shiso sencha syrup. You can come here and order anything on the menu and you will be happy. We'd been trying to come here with friends for a few months, but the dates just weren't lining up. Finally had our chance a few weeks ago and scored a semi-last-minute Friday dinner reservation for 4 of us. We were surprised that the reservation confirmation stated dress code is "smart casual" which sent me in a bit of a spin. I'm not a sloppy dresser, but I do hate having to think too hard to interpret someone else's dress code. The lame part was that it was not even remotely enforced. If you wanna show up tie-dyed, untucked, in shorts and flip-flops, as some other patrons did that night, you won't be turned away. Also, the restaurant is in a strip mall. There's dim lighting and a comfortable atmosphere, but this is not fine dining. So my advice is don't stress too hard about this detail. Our waiter was really friendly and assured us that everything we ordered was one of his favorites. He also was great about checking on potentially problematic ingredients for us, so we felt confident in what we were ordering. I like that there's a plant-based section to the menu for easy-to-order vegan items, and that the rest of the menu includes a couple more vegetarian options as well. It's a bit of a bummer that I had to rule out at least 3 of their vegan entrees because I can't eat Impossible products. That being said, what I did eat was very tasty. Tofu Mushroom Bowl (sautéed mushrooms & onions, tofu, rice, serrano peppers, fresh vegetables, spicy miso sauce, fried egg, scallions; $23) was a good size and had nice flavor. I appreciated the house hot sauces our waiter brought out for it. I went with this over the yakisoba, which was very similar but with noodles instead of rice, because the yakisoba cost an additional $6 to add tofu. That's a crime in my book. The veg okonomiyaki rice (garlic fried rice, seasonal vegetables, okonomiyaki sauce, umami black garlic vegan mayo, scallions, sesame seeds, micro greens; $20) with tofu ($6) looked really good but did not really resemble okonomiyaki other than the mayo. Edamame dumplings (edamame vegetable dumplings with chili oil, scallions, fresh minced garlic, ginger, tamari, sesame oil; $16) were very garlicky, and the hoisin cauliflower (tempura cauliflower tossed with savory chili hoisin glaze, scallions, sesame seeds; $19) was a surprising favorite. Drinks were very photogenic. The Dragon's Claw (tequila, lime, serrano, guava, poblano liqueur, salt) had some good heat to it. All in all I think the consensus is that we're glad we came but not sure that we're rushing to come back. read more

This is my son's favorite restaurant, discovered a few years ago so we ate here on his recent birthday. Our party of 5 had the Kurabota Pork Curry, Kalbi Short Ribs, Salmon Poke Tower, Ahi Poke Nachos,Ahi Poke Tacos and Black Cod. We sort of shared bites. So many good flavors, sauces, the Fresh Menu looked so enticing, I know we have to go back again and again. My dish was the Kalbi Ribs and I have to say thank you for serving this dish, the shihito peppers were perfect and that gochuchang sauce was better than anything I have had in a Korean restaurant or any other restaurant! We booked during happy hour without knowing about HH and what a treat...we tried a few more items than we normally would have! Everything was fantastic...except my main entree, the Kalua Pork Rice Bowl. I didn't find it as great as the other dishes, it was a bit bland overall. Next time I'll try one of the noodle dishes. That said, we loved everything else. The dessert was a beautiful and delicious way to end the meal. Definitely make reservations for Bar Dojo. I'd say it rates at a solid 4.5 stars for me. The family was over in Edmonds tonight and my wife went on Yelp to see what was in the area - - am I glad Yelpers gave Bar Dojo good reviews as it did NOT disappoint. We arrived when they opened at 4:00, which was the beginning of their happy hour. A quick review of their happy hour food and drinks: Chardonnay- only one brand, but it was good enough for repeat orders Sauv Blanc - pass Pork dumplings - I would rate these as the best in the area, and the sauce is out of this world...we ordered another order. Not doughy, and lots of pork stuffing Gochujang chicken wings - crispy, but sauced with a mild but spicy sauce - truly outstanding and we ordered another Pork sliders - 2 large sliders, perfectly sauced, with shoestring fries that were hot and crispy..seasoned with salt and pepper Cosmopolitans - outstanding, ordered many! They started filling up the restaurant around 4:30, so we're glad we got there when they opened at 4:00, and it was full at 5:00. Nice bar with food service at the bar, and ample seating - - you weren't on top of the table next to you. And the service was definitely 5-star. There was simply too many great-sounding dishes on their menu, so that means we'll have to go back, and soon! The restaurant was fairly empty as we were there on a Monday night (don't have to make reservations online because they charge $50 cancellation fee), so we had a table set up for us nicely. I ordered the Crab and Poke Bowl which was huge and offered my plenty of leftovers for lunch. They give you an entire soft shell crab on the side with a good portion of tuna poke. I had a couple sips of the ramen broth but it wasn't very flavorful, so I'd probably skip it when we come back. The beef noodle bowl was quite tasty and had delicious flavors. Wow, what a surprise. I would have never come here if it wasn't for Seattle restaurant week. For $35, you get A LOT of food. Especially if you order the burger. The burger is described as a James Beard competition blended shiitake mushroom burger blew my mind. It was impressively good and the time to jam was very unique. A must try on the menu. And the shoe string fries compliment the burger so well. The braised short rib is cooked perfectly and hits the spot. If you had parents who were blessed with the skill to make a homemade dish similar to this, it's going to give you all those feelings but with a restaurant presentation. The appetizers were good but nothing to make any special comments for. The dessert finishes the meal well and you can't go wrong with the flan or a little risqué with the red miso affogato. I love matcha and the flan is still able to bring out that taste while providing that familiar toasted caramel taste. I loved the Asian take on the affogato with the sesame brittle. I was pretty full from my meal by this time but still managed to clean my dessert off. The coffee was needed so I didn't get food coma for my drive home haha. Don't overlook this place! I will note their service is a bit slow and we even had to ask for utensils after the food came out. Not sure if there's a shortage in staff but the help wanted sign outside might be a hint. Otherwise, we enjoyed our time here but want to recommend that the food does come out at a slower pace and prepare for a 2 hour dinner minimum.
